[Bug 733142] [NEW] Rename Ubuntu Desktop Edition in GDM session switcher
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gnome-session According to http://blog.canonical.com/?p=528 the next primary version of Ubuntu will be Ubuntu 11.04 not Ubuntu Desktop Edition 11.04. Desktop edition is ambiguous terminology when a majority of new computers sold are laptops, not desktops. [Bug 728623] Re: Battery rate always 0
Thanks Earl, When you run the command: cat /proc/acpi/battery/BAT0/state present: yes capacity state: ok charging state: charged present rate: 0 mA remaining capacity: 4406 mAh present voltage: 12527 mV the ACPI driver evaluates the ACPI method _BST. The /proc/acpi/battery/BAT0/state fields are mapped as follows: charging state: -- _BST package element 0 values: 0 = charged, 1 = discharging, 2 = charging, 4 = critical present rate:-- _BST package element 1 remaining capacity: -- _BST package element 2 present voltage: -- _BST package element 3 The extracted _BST method from the DSDT in the acpidump is as follows (I added the comments) // Defaulted _BST return package Name (PKG2, Package (0x04) { Zero, One, One, 0x39D0 }) Method (_BST, 0, NotSerialized) { If (ECON) { Sleep (0x30) Store (^^PCI0.LPCB.EC0.BST0, Local0) And (Local0, 0x07, Local0) // read battery charging state from embedded controller memory Sleep (0x30) Store (^^PCI0.LPCB.EC0.BRC0, Local1) // read remaining capacity from embedded controller memory Sleep (0x30) Store (^^PCI0.LPCB.EC0.BPV0, Local2) // read present voltage from embedded controller memory Store (Local0, Index (PKG2, Zero)) // set charging state Store (Zero, Index (PKG2, One)) // set present rate = 0 Store (Local1, Index (PKG2, 0x02)) // set remaining capacity Store (Local2, Index (PKG2, 0x03)) // set present voltage } Return (PKG2)// return the battery status package to the Operating System that evaluated _BST } So, as one can see, the present rate field is being set to zero in the firmware, and the kernel is just reporting exactly what the firmware is returning. Section 10.2.2.6 of version 4.0a of the ACPI specification states: Batteries that are rechargeable and are in the discharging state are required to return a valid Battery Present Rate value. So in my opinion this should be reported as a bug to the BIOS vendor. The_BST method as it is not conforming to the ACPI specification, section 10.2.2.6, Battery Present Rate value. There is little we can do in software to fix this at the kernel level. ** Tags added: acpi-battery ** Changed in: gnome-power-manager (Ubuntu) Assignee: (unassigned) = Colin King (colin-king) ** Changed in: gnome-power-manager (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided = Medium ** Changed in: gnome-power-manager (Ubuntu) Status: New = Triaged ** Summary changed: - Battery rate always 0 + Battery present rate always 0 from /proc/acpi/battery/BAT?/state -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-power-manager in ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/728623 Title: Battery present rate always 0 from /proc/acpi/battery/BAT?/state -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 732831] Re: Evolution crashes while copying folders from POP to mildir account
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. However, your crash report is either missing or challenging to deal with as a .crash file. Please follow these instructions to have apport report a new bug about your crash that can be dealt with by the automatic retracer. If you are running the Ubuntu Stable Release you might need to enable apport in /etc/default/apport and restart. Now open your file manager, navigate to your /var/crash directory and open the crash report you wish to submit. If this fails you will have to open a terminal and file your report with 'ubuntu-bug /var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash' where _my_crash_report.crash is the crash you would like to report. If you get an error that you aren't allowed to access this report you will have to file it with 'sudo ubuntu-bug /var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash'. I'm closing this bug report since the process outlined above will automatically open a new bug report which can then dealt with more efficiently. Thanks in advance for your cooperation and understanding. ** Changed in: evolution (Ubuntu) Status: New = Invalid -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to evolution in ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/732831 Title: Evolution crashes while copying folders from POP to mildir account -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 733253] [NEW] gnome-settings-daemon freezes, desktop theming disappears
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gnome-settings-daemon Hello, I'm reporting a bug here that happens in my VirtualBox installation of Natty since an early date in the releasy cycle. It occurs permanently on a classic gnome session: - I type my login password, the desktop appears and looks normal - for the first seconds - then, usually 20-30 seconds after login, the selected GTK theme (Ambiance by current default) and icon theme (Humanity) disappear and the desktop and programs use the fallback Raleigh(?) GTK theme and the fallback icon theme (see screenshot below). Custom settings of font type/size are also not respected. However the correct metacity/compiz theme stays in use. - The gnome-settings-daemon process seems to be responsible, as it is completely unresponsive at this state. It doesn't respond to SIGTERM, only SIGKILL (kill -9) can terminate it. - If I manually restart gnome-settings-daemon it works (in most cases?). Further observations I made about this issue: - It happens all the time on a classic gnome session, regarding Unity I have seen it in the past to but on the last logins it worked with Unity running. - It is independent of the video driver, regardless if I choose Vesa or Vboxdrv (for hardware accelaration). - Settings up a fresh user account does NOT help! - I once or twice saw this on a non-virtual real hardware installation, but that was some time ago (before Alpha 2 I think) and didn't happen again since then. If I can provide any further informations for debugging, please let me know. Kind regards, Jan ProblemType: Bug DistroRelease: Ubuntu 11.04 Package: gnome-settings-daemon 2.32.1-0ubuntu8 ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 2.6.38-6.34-generic 2.6.38-rc7 Uname: Linux 2.6.38-6-generic x86_64 Architecture: amd64 Date: Fri Mar 11 13:55:26 2011 EcryptfsInUse: Yes ExecutablePath: /usr/lib/gnome-settings-daemon/gnome-settings-daemon ProcEnviron: LANGUAGE=de_DE:de_AT:de:en_GB:en PATH=(custom, user) LANG=de_DE.UTF-8 SHELL=/bin/bash SourcePackage: gnome-settings-daemon UpgradeStatus: Upgraded to natty on 2010-11-15 (116 days ago) XsessionErrors: (nm-applet:1470): Gdk-CRITICAL **: IA__gdk_window_thaw_toplevel_updates_libgtk_only: assertion `private-update_and_descendants_freeze_count 0' failed (nautilus:1446): GConf-CRITICAL **: gconf_value_free: assertion `value != NULL' failed ** Affects: gnome-settings-daemon (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: amd64 apport-bug natty -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-settings-daemon in ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/733253 Title: gnome-settings-daemon freezes, desktop theming disappears -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 733278] [NEW] Display doesn't switch back to primary when secondary monitor is removed
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gdm I use a laptop with an external monitor. When using the external monitor, the display is configured to be on the external monitor only. If I disconnect the external monitor, or even if I shut down and then reboot with the external monitor disconnected, the display does not show up on the laptop monitor at all. This used to work fine in Maverick, so I guess it's a regression in Natty Alpha 3. Workarounds: 1. Switch the display to be on the laptop monitor only before disconnecting or shutting down, or 2. Boot into recovery mode and modify .config/monitors.xml and set primary to yes; then reboot in normal mode. Please let me know if any more information is required.
