[Bug 822530] [NEW] Evolution eventually runs out of file handles.

2011-08-08 Thread Chris Halse Rogers
Public bug reported:

Evolution seems to have a file handle leak. After running for a day or so
(with some time suspended) it raises an error:
Cannot open maildir directory path:
/home/chris/.local/share/evolution/mail/local/.: Too many open files. This
happens consistently given sufficient time, although I've not pinned down the
minimum time it takes.

After this message occurs, Evolution is ususable. Any attempt to access
mail results in a Cannot access database error.

[Bug 822564] [NEW] 4-pages view for dual screen systems

2011-08-08 Thread Albert Vilella
Public bug reported:

Hi,

I would like to request for a new feature, an extension to the View - Dual
option, to have more than 2 pages in the window.
The rationale is to be able to quickly have a 4-pages view for a dual screen
system, with for example two side-to-side screens that can take 2-pages each.

Please label as 'enhancement',

Cheers

2011-08-08 Thread am...@gmx.ch

at powersave frequency. This problem can be reproduced readily.

[Bug 723861] Re: Right clicking on the desktop still displays the “Create Launcher...” option.

2011-08-08 Thread Pacho Ramos
Personally I don't think people wanting to create a launcher to run a
custom program will know that they will need to run gnome-desktop-item-
edit to create a launcher. Isn't there any easier way to generate a
launcher? Even creating it as a menu entry for gnome-shell/unity and
then dragdropping it to the desktop (if enabled) (not sure if it's
allowed as I am still using Gnome 2.32)

[Bug 822619] [NEW] With automatic logon first keypress switches key repetition back on

2011-08-08 Thread Erik Devriendt
Public bug reported:

Package: gdm 2.30.2.is.2.30.0-0ubuntu5.2+langfixes~lucid1
Ubuntu 10.04 LTS (up to date)

We have following situation:
- GDM configured with timed automatic login
- FVWM session with automatic execution of the 'xset r off' command during
startup to switch off keyboard repeat.
We have proof that the xset command is executed properly because 'xset q'
commands afterwards
show that the keyboard repeat really is switched off.

Pressing any keyboard key automagically switches the keyboard repetition
back on.

This phenomenon also happens with the 'xterm' session. In that case switching
off and verifying the keyboard
repetition has to be done via a console (Shift+Alt+F1).

Pressing a key before the automatic logon timer expires avoids the
phenomenon.

This phenomenon was not present in Ubuntu 8.04 LTS.

This phenomenon causes problems for using this Ubuntu version as base
for Kiosk applications

[Bug 553162] Re: Set $LANGUAGE if the user picks a different locale in gdm, so that language-selector and gdm stop disagreeing

2011-08-08 Thread Simon
This still fails on Natty 64 bits. I have defined:

$ cat /etc/default/locale
LANG=es_ES.UTF-8
LC_ALL=
LC_MESSAGES=POSIX
LC_COLLATE=C

But when I enter in Gnome:
$ locale
LANG=es_ES.UTF-8
LANGUAGE=es_ES:en
LC_CTYPE=es_ES.UTF-8
LC_NUMERIC=es_ES.UTF-8
LC_TIME=es_ES.UTF-8
LC_COLLATE=C
LC_MONETARY=es_ES.UTF-8
LC_MESSAGES=es_ES.UTF-8
LC_PAPER=es_ES.UTF-8
LC_NAME=es_ES.UTF-8
LC_ADDRESS=es_ES.UTF-8
LC_TELEPHONE=es_ES.UTF-8
LC_MEASUREMENT=es_ES.UTF-8
LC_IDENTIFICATION=es_ES.UTF-8
LC_ALL=

Only it respects LC_COLLATE but not LC_MESSAGES.

[Bug 822639] [NEW] nautilus crashed repeatetly probably due to amount of files

2011-08-08 Thread Andreas Saladin
Public bug reported:

I had a CD with a folder containing about 13'000 files (very small
pictures) that I needed for a database. Nautilus mounted the CD and
showed correctly that there were these 13000 files in the folder.
However when I tried to open the folder, Nautilus crashed - both when
trying to open from CD as well as when copied to the hard drive.

I was possible to open from Terminal though - so the problem must be
within Nautilus.

[Bug 553162] Re: Set $LANGUAGE if the user picks a different locale in gdm, so that language-selector and gdm stop disagreeing

2011-08-08 Thread Gunnar Hjalmarsson
Hi Simon,

/etc/default/locale contains system wide settings that basically affect
the startup and the login screen. Once logged in, your personal language
settings override the system wide ditto.

Please select English as your user language, either from the language
chooser at the bottom of the login screen or from Language Support.

I recommend that you click the Help button on the Language Support
window for a description of how things are intended to work.

Thanks for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu
better. We appreciate the difficulties you are facing, but this appears
to be a regular (non-security) bug. I have unmarked it as a security

cross privilege boundaries nor directly cause loss of data/privacy.
Please feel free to report any other bugs you may find.

[Bug 822778] [NEW] wrongly and randomly detects disk capacity

2011-08-08 Thread matteo sisti sette
Public bug reported:

When I put a blank double layer 8GB DVD+R into the drive, Brasero says
there are 4.7 Gb on it. Then I eject it, insert the SAME disk again, and
it says 5.1Gb of free space.

The disk is a double layer 8Gb DVD and my drive has double layer

[Bug 739831] Re: brasero does not create iso images if project is not saved

2011-08-08 Thread matteo sisti sette
I'm observing exactly the same, except that the workaround of saving the
project does NOT work.
Even if I _do_ save the project, a 2Mb only image is written.

I had added about 6Gb wirth of files. When writing finished (in a
suspiciously short time), it said it had succesfully written about 3Gb
(wrong size) and the _real_ image it has written was 2Mb.

[Bug 822792] [NEW] Disk Usage Analyzer produce incorrect numbers on home directories

2011-08-08 Thread Kasper Dupont
Public bug reported:

Disk Usage Analyzer (/usr/bin/baobab) produce incorrect numbers on home
directories. When the tool is run from the command line it outputs an
error message saying:

glibtop: statvfs '/home/kasperd/.gvfs' failed

** (baobab:31935): WARNING **: error in dir /home/kasperd: Error stating
file '/home/kasperd/.gvfs': Transport endpoint is not connected

I suspect that after encountering this error baobab does not scan
remaining subdirectories and thus leaving out the directories
responsible for the majority of the space consumption.

[Bug 822810] [NEW] Current step in Evolution Setup Assistant unreadable

2011-08-08 Thread Frederik Elwert
Public bug reported:

The Evolution Setup Assistant, which is launched when you start
Evolution for the first time, contains a column with the steps to
perform on the left hand side. It uses white text color to indicate the
currently active step in the assistant. This is hardly readable on the
light background.

(Besides that, this column isn’t exactly a masterpiece in design, but
that’s probably a matter of taste. The readability isn’t.)

[Bug 822792] Re: Disk Usage Analyzer produce incorrect numbers on home directories

2011-08-08 Thread Fabio Marzocca
You should have something wrong mounted in $HOME/.gvfs, or some dead link, or
some not-compatible network filesystem...
Pls check it.
Could it be (i.e.) an encrypted fs?

[Bug 744929] Re: After auto-login, prompted to unlock keyring multiple times

2011-08-08 Thread Clint Byrum
Upon review, the patch is fairly straightforward, and I think acceptable
for SRU. I would like to see a proper SRU report added to the
description before I accept this into natty-proposed. Please add one,
per the process on https://wiki.ubuntu.com/StableReleaseUpdates

Specifically a simple isolated test case would be useful so that this
can actually be verified.

[Bug 822792] Re: Disk Usage Analyzer produce incorrect numbers on home directories

2011-08-08 Thread Kasper Dupont
The home directory is encrypted with ecryptfs, but that does not seem to
be a problem for baobab. I can choose any other directory under the home
directory, and baobab reports correct usage information.

I don't know what .gvfs is. It is something that was set up automatically, I
don't know which software set it up. It shows up in /proc/mounts like this:
gvfs-fuse-daemon /home/kasperd/.gvfs fuse.gvfs-fuse-daemon
rw,nosuid,nodev,relatime,user_id=1000,group_id=1000 0 0

Any attempt to access it just produces the same error, this might be due
to a bug in some other component, but I don't know about that.

Regardless of what the reason this mount point cannot be accessed is, it
is a bug that baobab produce incorrect information when started from the
parent directory. It should tell me there are things it cannot access
and proceed to give me information about everything that it can access.

Above I had already described a manual workaround.

After killling -9 gnome-session one can use the terminal provided by the rescue
session to start gnome-session
(the new Ubuntu gui is even more unusable then Gnome-3)

Killing gdm and running startx is not necessary.

[Bug 822205] Re: Totem crashes instantly after starting - memory overflow

2011-08-08 Thread Daniel Manrique
The gconfaudiosink and gconfvideosink appear to be gone, they used to be
in /usr/lib/gstreamer-0.10/libgstgconfelements.so, which is part of
gstreamer0.10-plugins-good.

However they seem to have been deprecated in favor of gsettingsvideosink
and gsettingsaudiosink, which are in a shared library called
libgstgsettingselements.so, which is currently part of gstreamer0.10
-plugins-bad.

Thus, two things are needed:
1- Installing the gsettings elements somehow, currently by installing
gstreamer0.10-plugins-bad.
2- Modifying applications that refer to gconf{video,audio}sink to use
gsettings{video,audio}sink instead.

I couldn't find any relevant bugs in either of
gstreamer0.10-plugins-{good,bad}. But still, point 2 above means that
most likely some changes will be needed in totem itself.

[Bug 396443] [NEW] Copying/moving files renders user interface unusable

2011-08-08 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

$ lsb_release -rd
Description:Ubuntu 9.04
Release:9.04
System is up to date.

To reproduce:
1. Open a couple of Nautilus windows with source and target folders.
2. Start copying big amount of data, so that it takes a while (I used something
like 7GB), from source to target folder.
3. Try to perform you standard routines/tasks.

While copying is in process It is really hard to interact with the
desktop. Response of the programs/controls becomes really sluggish. Even
while typing text in the text-fields I observe pauses up to few seconds
before typed in keystrokes appear as text on the screen. On the other
hand, if copying is done in the Midnight Commander, then the problem is
less severe.

The delays are even more harsh if I perform copying from/to external USB
hard drive. I experience a slide show on the desktop then.

Similar behavior was also reported a number of times on our community
support forum.

I tried to monitor processor/memory consumption — nothing unusual. There
is plenty of memory and processor time available to the system.

I am using Dell Inspiron 640m:

2011-08-08 Thread komputes
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better.

I would assume this to be the case as QT and GTK apps configure fonts
differently. Could you post an example .fonts.conf file and peopose what
you beleive developers should do to correct this issue.

As well, no version information was submitted to the bug. Please execute the
following command, as it will automatically gather debugging information, in a

[Bug 823021] [NEW] libre.fm/nowplaying url is contacted and sent the current song being played without my consent

2011-08-08 Thread Joseph Paul Cohen
Public bug reported:

IDS logs show:

POST http://turtle.libre.fm/nowplaying/1.2/ HTTP/1.1 - - -
Rhythmbox/0.13.3
and
POST http://turtle.libre.fm/submissions/1.2/ HTTP/1.1 - - -
Rhythmbox/0.13.3

Wireshark shows details of what is sent. In this case I'm listening to Nine
Inch Nails. This request is sent about ever 30 seconds with my current song.
I never enabled this service. It should be off by default.

I feel that this is a privacy risk and should not be allowed.

/usr/lib/gvfs/gvfs-afc-volume-monitor, not volume control, figured it is
caused by iphone being plugged up.

[Bug 823021] Re: libre.fm/nowplaying url is contacted and sent the current song being played without my consent

2011-08-08 Thread Michael Sheldon
I'm not able to reproduce this on Debian (Last.fm plugin enabled, but
not authenticated with Libre.fm).

 Could you give some more details about your configuration? e.g. Is the
Last.fm plugin marked as being enabled? If you click the Configure
button for that plugin are both Last.fm and Libre.fm ticked? If you
click the Libre.fm tab in the sidebar what does it show?

 Are you certain that you haven't set up the plugin in the past and just
forgotten? The fact that the s parameter is filled in your data dump
there would seem to indicate that you have authenticated with Libre.fm,
as this is the session key which is retrieved as part of the
authentication handshake (you'd have had to click the little Log in
button in the Libre.fm tab at some point in the past, after which it
would then be displaying some details from your profile.)

 Cheers,
  Mike.

[Bug 823021] Re: libre.fm/nowplaying url is contacted and sent the current song being played without my consent

2011-08-08 Thread Joseph Paul Cohen
I was authenticated, but not using the libre.fm library at the time. I
logged out of the service and it stopped sending this data.

I would expect that this data would be sent while I was listening to
music from libre.fm but that was not the case.

Thanks for looking into this.
