Thanks for testing. Can you select the right profile with the
pavucontrol application? If not, this is actually a pulseaudio problem
rather than a problem with the sound settings UI.

[Bug 987220] Re: System does not power off reliably when Shut Down chosen from GUI

2012-06-19 Thread Stefan Essl
First testrun today:
2 PCs never powered off after shut down
- with noapic,nolapic
- without noapic,nolapic
always with sudo su - as root
shutdown -h now

sudo shutdown -h now
didn't power off.

GUI shutdown directly from login screen power off. tested once...

1 PC powered off from GUI shutdown directly from login screen once,
but tested it again it waited with power down line
This one didn't power down with
sudo shutdown -h now

4 PCs powered off after shutdown via
sudo shutdown -h now

but didn't shut down as root with
shutdown -h now
and also not in runlevel 1...

So it seems to me that if I'm lucky it powers off...
this can't be real...

thinking and hoping for solution

[Bug 987220] Re: System does not power off reliably when Shut Down chosen from GUI

2012-06-19 Thread Stefan Essl
so i googled around again and found the following:
https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=113985p=2
I know, another distro another kernel.
But it is quite the same phenonemon.
https://lkml.org/lkml/2011/4/4/121
is a report about some kernel issue, which maybe could be the cause...

I tried:
laptop-mode-tools weren't installed on my PCs
So I installed it on 2 PCs.
After restart one powered off after shutdown via GUI the other didn't.

I removed laptop-mode-tools on the PC were it didn't work and restarted:
Now it powered off after shutdown via GUI.

Now I tested shutdown again and one powered off after shutdown via GUI
the other where I installed and removed the laptop-mode-tools did not
power off after shutdown via GUI.

so

[Bug 995885] Re: Custom keyboard shortcuts do not work if they use the Super key

2012-06-19 Thread Paddy Landau
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 950160 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/950160

This bug is not exactly a duplicate of bug #950160, as I can still
create keyboard shortcuts with the Alt key (e.g. Alt-Y).

As I do not know the technical underpinnings, would the resolution of
bug #950160 also fix this bug?

If so, marking this as a duplicate is valid; if not, this is not a
duplicate.

[Bug 996076] Re: gedit latex plugin does not work

2012-06-19 Thread Phoenix87
I think this bug has a workaround. I'm not sure this will work on 12.04,
for I'm still using 11.10 and it worked there. The idea is to copy
/usr/share/gedit/plugins/latex/tools.xml over
$HOME/.config/gedit/latex/tools.xml using root user priviledges. This
will prevent the local file to be overwritten, because everytime gedit
is opened the local tools.xml gets corrupted. This also implies that you
cannot edit this file as a normal user through the plugin Preferences
dialog. An alternative method would be to copy the file as superuser,
change ownership to a normal user, modify the tools through the
Preferences dialog, and then change the ownership back to root. I didn't
have the time to have a look at the code to find out the reasons for
this silly behavior (i.e. why most of the text in the local tools.xml
gets chopped off), so someone is strongly encouraged to do so and come
up with a fix for this.

Cheers.

[Bug 910021] Re: Cannot load Empathy Client accounts

2012-06-19 Thread berkes
I have experienced the same issue. Unfortunately the whole of empathy
hung, so I could not access Debug menu. Only an xkill or killall would
close empathy. The error would reoccur whenever I started empathy again.

A restart of my Gnome session (logout - login) solved the issue. I now
can no longer reproduce the error.

[Bug 1015041] [NEW] Conflict between NTP and NTPDATE

2012-06-19 Thread JoLa
Public bug reported:

Hi,

if you select time synchronisation over the internet, NTP must be installed
(offered in the dialog) . This results in a waiting loop (1 minute) after log
in.
I found a hint in the internet concerning NTP and NTPDATE. Therefore I
deinstalled NTPDATE, AFAIK installed per default. After this the waiting loop
is gone.
Think that the package manager should do this automatically.

BS: Xubuntu 12.04

[Bug 1015073] [NEW] [soundnua] Can't select Digital stereo duplex profile

2012-06-19 Thread David Henningsson
Public bug reported:

How to reproduce:
 1) Go to output tab and select Digital Output (S/PDIF)
 2) Go to input tab and select iec958-digital-input
 3) Go back to output tab, notice that Digital Output (S/PDIF) is no longer
selected.

More info:
When selecting Digital Output (S/PDIF), soundnua sets the card's profile to
output:iec958-stereo+input:analog-stereo. When selecting
iec958-digital-input, soundnua sets the card's profile to
output:analog-stereo+input:iec958-stereo, instead of the expected
output:iec958-stereo+input:iec958-stereo.

As selecting iec958-stereo on one side unexpectedly flips it back to
analog-stereo on the other side there is no way to select
output:iec958-stereo+input:iec958-stereo.

[Bug 1015089] [NEW] Wishlist with implementation: cscope integration in gedit using external tools plugin

2012-06-19 Thread Michael
Public bug reported:

Since one of the things which has always annoyed me about gedit is its
lack of ctags or cscope support I wrote a simple script using the
external tools plugin to make it use cscope. I opened an upstream bug
report [1] to get it provided, but no joy so far. I have been happily
using it for a year or so now and feel like I couldn't live without it
(at least not with gedit...) The script is attached to the upstream
bug.

So the question is. is it expected the user will know to create a
template in ~/Templates if only looking to have one for text Not to
put a text template in there

An Empty Document option is auto added once any template is in place,
if you add one for a plain text docu then you get 2 options for the same
thing

2012-06-19 Thread Sebastien Bacher
Thanks, can't you just add an Empty Document to your template
directory if you want that feature?

In practice how often users want to create an empty text file? That
somewhat goes back to the bug saying that the default installation
should have template for useful types like libreoffice writer texts
though...

[Bug 1015116] [NEW] emblems sporatically missing

2012-06-19 Thread Y2k
Public bug reported:

was developing a nautilus extension when i was was trying to figure out why
some of my icons were not getting there emblems set. I finally realized that If
I set the view from list to icons the handful of icons missing their emblems
would change.
Also If I zoomed in all the way in icon view all emblems would show up
correctly.
If I turn off thumbnails, all emblems show up completely.

Tried this with a known working user of emblems: dropbox, and some
emblems are missing there too. They were my panoramas the lost their
emblem.

opening nautilus in terminal yields these errors, only on pages that have files
missing their emblem:

[Bug 1014876] Re: No option to create a New Document from context menu

2012-06-19 Thread Sebastien Bacher
seems like your previous comment arrived while I was writing my reply,
at this point the bug seems a duplicate of bug #372132?

[Bug 1015116] Re: emblems sporatically missing

2012-06-19 Thread Sebastien Bacher
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. The issue you are reporting is an upstream one and it
would be nice if somebody having it could send the bug to the developers
of the software by following the instructions at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/Upstream/GNOME. If you have done so, please
tell us the number of the upstream bug (or the link), so we can add a
bugwatch that will inform us about its status. Thanks in advance.

2012-06-19 Thread giardia
ok,thanks. installed the repo and updated the webkit packages to version
1.8.1...restarted...and empathy work fine now!

webkit 1.8.1 also solve crashes in epiphany browser
(https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/webkit/+bug/980658)

ps: im wondering, as a newbie...why this new version of webkit has not
been given from the ubuntu updates still? it will be in the future? if
this will be the case, could be a problem to have already installed from
webkit repo? (sorry for newbie question)

[Bug 1014155] Re: File copy progress window invisible in Launcher and Workspaces

2012-06-19 Thread SEWilco
I had not seen it among my bookmarks, but now I do see it.
It sometimes works.
So I'm wrong that there is no method for requesting to see the file operations
window. However, the method is not reliable.

I'm doing an SSD-to-SSD copy, which is slowing the system a lot.
Echoing of this text within the web browser is often many characters
behind what I'm typing. I have plenty of unused RAM and cores, so the
window display may be getting affected by a system bottleneck.

[Bug 1011676] Re: empathy-chat crashed with SIGILL in JSC::Interpreter::executeCall()

2012-06-19 Thread Norbs
I think it is totally ok to have the new version installed. Ubuntu
detects that it was installed and it just wont be updated when webkit
1.8.1. eventually reaches the official repos.

I'm wondering what is commune in our install of Ubuntu, that we had this
bug, and it was not reported by anybody else. Did you upgrade from
Ubuntu 11.10? Do you use an nVidia grafical card, that is not supported?
Are you connecting from port 80 to Yahoo! on Empathy?

[Bug 987570] Re: gvfs not using Domain field for SMB/CIFS connections

2012-06-19 Thread chud
I have a slightly different problem but possibly with the same cause. (using
12.04 with all updates)
If two accounts of the same name exist in two domains, no matter what is domain
specified either via aaa\user or entering workgroup as aaa, it always uses one
of the domains. i.e. specifying bbb\user still authenticates as aaa\user.
An account which only exists in one domain seems to work as expected.

Re: [Bug 972554] Re: [soundnua]: new capplet does not expose the sound card profile selection

Thanks for testing. Can you select the right profile with the

I will test this as soon as I get back access to the hardware(might be
in about a month). Since I only have access to the hardware every so
often, a list of all the informations to collect could help me provide
you those in batch instead of waiting that long between the different

nautilus (1:3.5.2-0ubuntu3) quantal; urgency=low

  * debian/nautilus.gsettings-override:
- dropped deprecated computer-icon-visible key
  * debian/patches/git_icon_no_thumbnail_fix.patch:
- icon-view: fix thumbnails not showing regression (lp: #1014755)
  * debian/patches/05_desktop_menu_export.patch:
- synced on the new upstream version, those options got dropped:
hide toolbar, statusbar, extra panes, tree panel, computer location.
  * debian/patches/03_translations_list_update.patch,
debian/patches/13_translate_unity_launcher.patch:

- workaround ellipsizing issues in the pathbars (lp: #1014645)

[Bug 1015234] [NEW] Sound volume sets to 100% on soundcard switching

2012-06-19 Thread tom
Public bug reported:

Hi,

very annoying bug!

I have an external XFi USB soundcard. When I switch the card the volume
changes to 100%. That should be fixed. keep the same volume even if the
soundcard settings are changed. Same for switching to another sound
setting 4.1 or 5.1 e.g. Or you switch from headphone to speakers.
Sometimes also problems with supend mode.

Please don't set the volume to 100%.

Also teh soundcard settings change after reboot or suspend.

[Bug 1013171] Re: Many package hooks not ported to python3

2012-06-19 Thread Edward Donovan
Hi all - I was starting to redo the dkms patch, but it looks like
Brian's taking that.

Thanks for the Thanks. :) For future ref, I have email addresses on
my LP page, so this makes me wonder if they're properly visible. There
are two, anyway, and edward.dono...@numble.net would be the better one
to use. The launchpad@numble is where bug mail goes, for filtering.
Maybe that's not the smoothest way to do it. (Maybe this process
question is best asked somewhere else; I don't know.)

I'm also a uncertain, after reading your comments, if the patches should
be redone, to work better with python 2 or 3, as you're talking about.
When there was a print statement in these hooks, my little patches just
made it a python 3 function, with parentheses. I was just thinking
about python 3 compatibility, and didn't add any

from __future__ import print_statement

lines. Would it be best to redo them, that way? Thanks.

[Bug 771896] Re: No way to save current session

2012-06-19 Thread CSV
Hello,
As this bug is marked as Fixed I just wanted to make clear that
GNOME_SESSION_SAVE=TRUE does *NOT* work in Ubuntu 12.04 Classic (updated to
date, so with the released fix). No window/application is saved and
re-opened/re-launched on startup.
I understand that it should be marked as pending until it is proven to work,
what seems not for other users as for the last comments.
I find, as many, this feature not only useful but necessary for day-a-day use.
It is often more useful a window opened in the last session than any post-it.
This is the kind of issues keeping away previous users of GNOME2.
I would like to contribute something but sadly I am not programmer/developer of
any kind.
I hope to see some progress soon. I will try Desgualdo's script in the meantime.
Regards.

[Bug 1015240] [NEW] EOG window doen't raise when opening an image that's already open

2012-06-19 Thread Eric Gregory

[Bug 1007133] Re: Evolution locks up under KDE in Kubuntu 12.04 when setting an alarm on an appointment

2012-06-19 Thread cIdde
More info - really, really want to get around this bug, as I need
evolution in my company to be able to use the exchange server there. I
currently use gnome3, and I actually quite like the user interface
except for only a very few things that one obviously cannot change. But
then gnome 3 seems to depend on mono now, and that's really yuck!

In my desperation I tried lxde and found out an interesting aspect. In
lxde evolution works, unless you select the oxygen-gtk style for the
user interface. Then I get the exact same lockups in evolution as
described above. As in KDE the oxygen-gtk style is also used for gnome
applicatons (afaik), it seems that evolution has problems with this
style or that the style causes problems in evolution.

[Bug 694910] Re: Regression: patch to bug 539477 breaks Super+P keybindings

2012-06-19 Thread Iain Murray
@Vinh sorry I didn't see your request. I have a later version than you,
3.2.2. If you have an earlier Ubuntu release, maybe try the work-around
I linked to in the first comment?

The good news is that this issue may have been fixed in Ubuntu precise
12.04. I just installed that on a new machine and I don't seem to have
the issue. Although the offending code still seems to be there, so I'm
not sure what's going on. I don't currently have the time to upgrade the
machines that had the issue before.

BTW in gnome-settings-daemon 3.4.2, which comes with Ubuntu 12.04,
acme.h got renamed shortcuts-list.h

[Bug 1014876] Re: No option to create a New Document from context menu

2012-06-19 Thread Doug McMahon
at this point the bug seems a duplicate of bug #372132?
Possibly
The difference would be that this has been a default supplied option (r. clicck
new docu..) that users have have had available in prior Ubuntu releases for
some time.

Whether using 'Templates' is difficult I'm not in a position to judge how
difficult it would be for users to figure out or even if it would be missed
(though I guarantee many current Ubuntu users will notice it's gone.
Maybe that's something for user studies or design

What does come up is it seems nautilus has a 'built-in' template for text, but
it won't show until something is placed in the Templates folder.
So if a user puts a text file 'template in, then they can get 2 options for the
same thing. So that may be confusing instead of difficult

[Bug 954952] Re: Scrolling through the playlist with the mouse wheel also skips ahead/back in the current track

2012-06-19 Thread cdar
Haha! Only that? Too much for me. I did:
bzr branch lp:ubuntu/totem, pbuilder -dist precise create, changed totem.ui,
dch -i, and now
bzr bd -- -S -us -uc says:

dpkg-source: info: using source format `3.0 (quilt)'
dpkg-source: info: building totem using existing ./totem_3.0.1.orig.tar.gz
dpkg-source: info: local changes detected, the modified files are:

dpkg-source: error: aborting due to unexpected upstream changes, see
/tmp/totem_3.0.1-0ubuntu23.diff.4KmYNK
dpkg-source: info: you can integrate the local changes with dpkg-source --commit
dpkg-buildpackage: error: dpkg-source -b totem-3.0.1 gave error exit status 2
debuild: fatal error at line 1350:

[Bug 1015342] [NEW] Tools/manage tools/shortcuts: More help while defining shortcuts

2012-06-19 Thread Stefan Wagner
Public bug reported:

I enjoy much the possibility to define my own tools, and combine them
with shortcuts.

I admit that it wouldn't be wise to redefine the mosts often used ones
like Ctrl-C, Ctrl-V.

However, I often write programs in Scala or Java and like to compile and
run them by hotkeys.

I have ALT-j (java) and Ctrl-J (javac) defined, and would like to use
something for Scala, but Ctrl-S is already used for Save.

The first problem with this is, that it isn't indicated, that the
keystroke is occupied by something else, it is even shown in the menu.
Since the keys are spread all over the menu, it is hard to find a free
one. I thought, that Ctrl-K would be a nice alternative, since K can be
pronounced like C in German in many cases, and kompilieren would be
easy to recognize. It's occupied too for inKremental search which I
rarely use, and so we approach the 3rd aspect of this problem: If I
could define an Image to be shown in the toolbar, or building a button
from words like scalac, scala, ..., the accessibility would be much
better.

Conclusion: I have 3 related feature-requests:
 * inform the user, if a hotkey is occupied
 * allow the user to overwrite hotkeys (ask for confirmation to avoid
accidentally overwriting popular commands, the user didn't think of)
 * allow the user to define buttons for the toolbar - (by image, by words, by
both).

Thanks for your help. If you rewrite Gedit from Scratch in Java or
Scala, I would submit a patch. :)

Btw.: I'm still using Gedit 2.30.3 which came with XUbuntu 10.04, but I
consulted the List of changes since then, and found no related entry.
This is more a feature request/maybe usability bug.
