[Bug 1927063] Re: Terminal prompt got strangely replicated when resizing terminal horizontally
Disagree with 18.04 LTS (18.04.5) comment by @nrbrtx, considering gnome- terminal. Open gnome-terminal. Change directory to long name, from first character of username to last character "$" of directory summing 60, or 61+ characters. Give it best effort and utilize "clear" command. Utilize keyboard shortcut to escape from current command, "CTRL + C", twice. Utilize keyboard shortcut to adjust window, "ALT + F8", and reduce horizontal width from the RIGHT edge to 62 characters. Notice one line of history is gone. Continue and reduce horizontal width to 58 characters. Notice an unexpected character at beginning of last line of prompt. Continue to 57 characters. The whole path is no longer visible. Continue to 56 characters. Part of the path appears inside the cursor. Continue to 55 characters. Path is now obscured. Continue to 50 characters. Notice the obscured path is no longer present, but the path is not whole. Continue and reduce horizontal width to minimum (31) from the RIGHT edge with arrow keys. Utilize keyboard shortcut to escape from current command, "CTRL + C", twice. The tool to change horizontal width has been disabled and a ^C is made visible at the last prompt, escaping to a new prompt with full path. Utilize keyboard shortcut to adjust window, "ALT + F8", and increase horizontal width from the RIGHT edge to 60 characters or 61 characters. Notice the username is obscured. If performed with 60 character line, Continue to typical 80 characters. The first letter of the username is now repeated on the last line. If performed with 61 character line, first character of username is sometimes repeated on previous line. If performed with 61+ character line, multiples of path are seen as original bug reports. You can make more lines with path appear if iterating between width of 31 and 32 characters. My example is 62 characters: userna@userna:~/userna/usernamefolder/direct/foobars/foobars$ Results: userna@userna:~/userna/usernamefolder userna@userna:~/userna/usernamefolder/direct/foobars/foobars$ Either with fast keyboard strokes or slow, there are a number of errors in line feed and character removal when adjusting the terminal width. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-terminal in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1927063 Title: Terminal prompt got strangely replicated when resizing terminal horizontally To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/bash/+bug/1927063/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 1927159] [NEW] 21.04 Multi-Monitor Desktop Click & Drag Issues
Public bug reported: Hello, I've got two displays set up in "Join Displays" mode, where screen 1 is above screen 2 When both monitors are enabled, the "Click and Drag" area on the desktop (and only the desktop!) is wrong. However, when one monitor is disabled, click & drag behaves properly. When I depress the mouse on the bottom screen, the point I click on to start the 'square of selection' is correct, but the bottom left automatically starts 1000~ pixels (or more) below where I click. Strangely, on the top monitor, the behaviour is different and the right 'x' coordinate is moved to the right about 700~ pixels E.g in the picture below (top monitor), I clicked on the top right of the edge of the volcano, but it automatically added another selection point to the right of it. [Bug 1927149] [NEW] Irrelevant translatable strings
Public bug reported: When building gnome-software on Ubuntu, dh_translations generates a translation template (.pot file) to be imported to Rosetta. That template includes 700+ log messages from data/appdata/org.gnome.Software.appdata.xml.in. The messages are not shown to users, and it makes no sense to have those strings translated. It's worth mentioning that the strings are excluded in upstream's translation template. The issue was first reported at the ubuntu-translators mailing list: https://lists.ubuntu.com/archives/ubuntu-translators/2021-May/007757.html I stripped the redundant strings from the template and uploaded it to hirsute manually as a temporary measure. The reason why this happens seems to be that the appstream package is included in Build-Depends. appstream installs the file /usr/share/gettext/its/metainfo.its with rules which make all the log entries be extracted. But the gettext package installs /usr/share/gettext-0.21/its/metainfo.its with more sensible rules which do not make the log entries be extracted. If the former is not present, xgettext falls back to the latter. So a solution to this issue is to drop appstream from Build-Depends. gnome-software seems to build fine without that package (tested in PPA). ** Affects: gnome-software (Ubuntu) Importance: High Assignee: Gunnar Hjalmarsson (gunnarhj) Status: In Progress -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-software in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1927149 Title: Irrelevant translatable strings To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-software/+bug/1927149/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 1925732] Re: new in 21.04: gnome window manager ignores the --geometry location request of the gnome-terminal
If the "GNOME shell" is able to ask Wayland to position the diverse elements of the destop, then the cooperation of the "GNOME shell" and "gnome-terminal" should be able to do the same. Wayland can be asked to position the top bar to the top of the screen, to position the side bar to the left of the scereen, ... then "GNOME shell" and "gnome-terminal" should be able to request at Wayland the top-right or top-left positioning according to the original request of gnome-terminal --geometry=-0+0" or "gnome-terminal --geometry=+0+0" respectively. To position someting into one of the 4 corners is so common request, that there shuld be a solution for that, --- hence this bug report is anyways a real problem of the cooperation of "gnome-terminal" and "GNOME shell" with "Wayland". Yet another issue: "I think it's more of a security feature than a bug, ..." --- If Wayland doesn't support the positioning request due to security concerns, then even the size requests shuold be forbidden and make that features obsolote as weel, since a request for maximal possibble size implies the dangerous request of positioning, namely into the upper left corner, what positioning request is considered a security threat. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to mutter in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1925732 Title: new in 21.04: gnome window manager ignores the --geometry location request of the gnome-terminal To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/gnome-shell/+bug/1925732/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 1927100] [NEW] Slow file dialogs, open and save
Public bug reported: On Ubuntu Mate 20.04. Sometime the Open and Save dialogs in GTK applications will over 20 seconds to display. Yes please uninstall/disable all extensions other than the three Ubuntu extensions. You can find them in the app called 'Extensions'. Please also run: cd ~/.local/share/gnome-shell rm -rf extensions and then log out and in again to ensure there are no locally-installed extensions. [Bug 1926364] Re: interactive resizes window jumps out of screen
bug 1922034 is gnome-terminal specific. The upstream issue was https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/mutter/-/issues/1723. But this bug is generic for any Wayland client. And it also has been fixed in the 3.38 release. Now, this very issue is tagged "fixed-in-3.36.8" which is not correct I think. At least for me, I still see this issue on the latest 3.36 release in the upstream branch "gnome-3-36". Can someone confirm that this is resolved in 3.36.9? Hi Daniel, I did that a few days ago. The extension that triggers the problem is gsconnect. There is a related open bug on that extension at https://github.com/GSConnect/gnome-shell-extension-gsconnect/issues/1028 I waited to report it here because we were doing some investigations then I forgot.
