[Bug 2020782] Re: Xdcv: Changing display scale setting and reverting it fails

2023-06-19 Thread Daniel van Vugt
1. No I don't think vv5 is the final fix, which is why the upstream fix
is marked as Draft still:
https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/mutter/-/merge_requests/3062

2. Correct. Those "logspam" bugs are just noise and can be ignored:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bugs?field.tag=logspam

3. It's not impossible the blank screen is a mutter bug, but we still
need to see it happening on a desktop that's not mutter-based :) I
believe all of the remaining log messages in
https://pastebin.ubuntu.com/p/JpVsjbQzsQ/ can be ignored for this bug.

4. I think that's the blocker here for bug 2020782. I have more ideas
but not enough time to test them yet.

[Bug 1771880] Re: Seahorse unable to import pkcs12 certificates

2023-06-19 Thread Mark - Syminet
Hi, thought I'd chime in here as just ran into the same issue on debian
bullseye. Obtained an oh-so-precious "mycert.p12" file and resolved
thus:

Step 1:

a) In Firefox ESR: Settings -> Privacy and Security -> View Certificates button
(way down at the bottom).
b) "Certificate manager" popup window, "Your Certificates", Import button
c) Select mycert.p12 file and it appears in Firefox.

Step 2:

a) In LibreOffice Write: Tools -> Options -> Security, click
"Certificate" button under "Certificate Path"

This is where it got interesting - there were two selections there:

x firefox:default
o firefox:default-esr

the top one, "firefox-default" was selected and was not working.
Clicking "firefox:default-esr" instead, restart LibreOffice Write...
fixed.

Another important note: After changing the certificate path, it prompts
"LibreOffice Write needs to restart in order to take effect. Do this
now?" ...which I answered yes, but it did not actually restart.
Initially thinking it didn't work. But upon manual restart, it *did*
work.

Maybe this approach is better since it takes Seahorse out of the loop.

Would also be curious to know if Jammy is fixed and/or above works? I'm
going to upgrade one of the three debian bullseye systems I did this on
successfully, to debian bookworm right now. If anything breaks, I'll be
sure to post that here.

Hope this helps someone out there.

[Bug 2020782] Re: Xdcv: Changing display scale setting and reverting it fails

2023-06-19 Thread Fabio Augusto Miranda Martins
Daniel,

A few items to make sure I'm on the same page:

1. So, IIUC, you're saying that the "final fix" should be the vv5
package, which contains the fix to the zero hz bug (loosening mutter to
accept zero-Hz, as this is the bogus refresh rate being reported by
Xdcv) + the caveat for AWS to either fix Xdcv or never try to enable
Fractional scaling in the instance (details in your comment#16), is that
so?

2. Regarding your comment on bug 1857392 and bug 2007742 being present,
iiuc they do not have a noticeable impact (other than spamming the log).

3. Also, I need to mention that I went ahead and tried once more the vv5
package on a AWS Workspace, and I can no longer reproduce the blank
screen. Now I see these logs [1] and the scale does get reverted from
200% to 100%.

https://pastebin.ubuntu.com/p/JpVsjbQzsQ/

4. If 1 above is correct, then where (if anywhere) we are going to
investigate the situation where vv5 causes the other monitors to get
automatically enabled?

Regards,
Fabio Martins

[Bug 2022961] Re: Update gnome-shell to 44.2

2023-06-19 Thread Jeremy Bícha
I installed gnome-shell 44.2-0ubuntu1 on Ubuntu 23.04 and successfully
completed all 3 test cases.

I believe the workrave extension broke between 44 Beta and 44 RC. It is
currently broken in Ubuntu 23.04 but this was broken before these gnome-
shell SRUs. Today, a fix for workrave was uploaded to Ubuntu 23.10 that
may fix that issue so I will look into SRUing that fix.

[Bug 1299604] Re: evolution keeps asking for password

2023-06-19 Thread DPH
I don't have adequate knowledge to grasp whether the problem is rooted
in Evolution, Ubuntu, Gnome, or something else ... but the fact that it
still exists a decade on is truly staggering.

3.48.1-0ubuntu1 / 23.04 lunar

No combination of turning things on and off works this time round.

I hope my questions and confusion was clear so that you can iterate and clarify.

I'll remove ubuntu-sponsors which I'll ask you to add back once this is
ready for review again.

[Bug 1779890] Re: gvfsd process does not have the KRB5CCNAME environment set

2023-06-19 Thread Christian Ehrhardt 
Then the most recent applied patch says:
...
Since this is a helper service that is meant to be controlled by
"tracker-miner-fs", the install section shouldn't exist, as it allows
the service to enabled, meaning that its execution would be
controlled by systemd.

But I can't see where/how:

root@m:~# grep -Hn -- tracker-extract $(dpkg -L tracker-miner-fs| xargs)
2>/dev/null | grep -v copyright

Would you mind clarifying that interaction on your update.
Because without I'm afraid more will be confused :-/

[Bug 1779890] Re: gvfsd process does not have the KRB5CCNAME environment set

2023-06-19 Thread Christian Ehrhardt 
Some things just do not fit together.
You write
"... to update from default.target.wants to gnome-session.target.wants. ..."
But while 3.4.3-1ubuntu1 does:
+ [Install]
+-WantedBy=default.target
++WantedBy=gnome-session.target

Then later 3.4.3-1ubuntu2 does
+-[Install]
+-WantedBy=default.target
++# This is a helper service that is controlled by "tracker-miner-fs-3.service".
++# It's not supposed to be enabled or started manually.

So the changelog and intent doesn't match.
Is it just the changelog that got confused or is there more that needs to be
clarified and corrected?

[Bug 1779890] Re: gvfsd process does not have the KRB5CCNAME environment set

2023-06-19 Thread Christian Ehrhardt 
This is now the third revision of the change (3.4.3-1ubuntu1 + 3.4.3-1ubuntu2 +
this) and by identifying that this also needs to go to -devel I wonder if you
should not also use the chance to submit the outstanding Delta to Debian. That
will help them directly and mid-term ease maintenance.
3.4.3-1ubuntu2 said "Cherry-pick patch ..." but didn't mention from where -
will this be in next upstream and that way come to Debian?
If so, you might still help by reminding them to use the purge mechanism to get
rid of the old on-disk config.

[Bug 1779890] Re: gvfsd process does not have the KRB5CCNAME environment set

2023-06-19 Thread Christian Ehrhardt 
I can see why you do the purge forgetting the old state to enable them as if
they were freshly installed.
I'm not sure how SRUable that will be afterwards as it is affecting behavior if
someone has set something else than the default. But for now, going forward to
mantic I agree that it will help to get an upgrading system out of the old
wrong dependencies.

Given that this isn't meant to be enabled automatically (thanks for the
explanation in the last patch) that should be ok'ish.

You do this change even to people which installed 3.4.3-1ubuntu2 as the
first (which was correct). But I think adding more code to detect that
rare case won't help many real cases.

Since this is juts for mantic for now, that is fine.
But double think about it on SRU time.
