[Bug 290098] Re: Totem video player keeps playing in slow motion.
Hi, I'm randymanme. I'm a newbie -- earlier today, I had to go to the glossary to find out what a terminal is. Choppy videos and/or videos running in slow motion are a pain for me. Can I download Linux Mint Main Edition without it adversely effecting my computer? I have Ubuntu 8.04. If I don't like mint or if it doesn't solve my problem, can I easily (for a newbie) go back to 8.04? -- Totem video player keeps playing in slow motion. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/290098 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a bug assignee. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 290098] Re: Totem video player keeps playing in slow motion.
I followed Tom Muse's advice and removed MoviePlayer. I tried to remove MoviePlayer(Gstreamer) also, but my computer wouldn't let me (so to speak) because too many other applications are tied to it. Then I put MoviePlayer back on [and also MoviePlayerTotem (xine backend) which wasn't on before]. The videos now play just fine. Still, if Linux Mint works 99% of the time right out of the package, maybe it might behoove me to prefer that over 8.04. -- Totem video player keeps playing in slow motion. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/290098 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a bug assignee. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
Re: [Bug 290098] Re: Totem video player keeps playing in slow motion.
thanks my ubuntu did all that it is just that this problem just started I will check mint out for sure though as I run windows before and got tired of the expense of running the os. in five years I have not had one crash, a few freeze ups. and my win XP had to be reloaded or rebuilt numerous times and windows is gone in my book. My wife wants windows on her computer with wireless. I have no problems viewing tube services as you tube. I can't share on a Belkin network so thats a plus for me in mint. The you must be root error will be improved in mint matbe. As it is hard to configure my system in ubuntu. without a fuss! I know this isn't a fix as much as it is a work around but Mint is built on Ubuntu and they have pretty much set up everything you need for a fully functional OS. One of the coolest things is that you can play DVDs without having to load additional plugins or codecs and java is already loaded. [Bug 290098] Re: Totem video player keeps playing in slow motion.
Charles, When I installed Ubuntu 8.04 I had to install the java plugins and my wireless didn't work right away. Also I had numerous sound card issues. I got it all working after a few days of hitting google and IRC but I had to go through that on about 5 different computers. I have installed 8.04 on about 8 machines and I think 5 gave me fits. I also played with KDE4 which looks nice but I ended up with many duplicate menu options and some stuff just didn't work. All but one machine is now running Mint and I am actually able to focus on customising my setup instead of trying to just get it to function properly. One issue that I wasn't able to resolve in either Ubuntu or Mint is that I only have sound on the rear speakers even though I have a 7.1 sound card. My front audio jack doesn't even work because it is setup for the front speakers. -- Totem video player keeps playing in slow motion. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/290098 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a bug assignee. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
Re: [Bug 290098] Re: Totem video player keeps playing in slow motion.
Tom Well three hours left on mint download now. Yes my master does not control sound , my 5.1 on this computer is not use but capable. Actually I'm using 5.2 lol I added an extra bass. I patch only 2 channel into my theater and sounds great. My main board is a matsonic running 1gib ram with a 2.7GHZ processor . invidia card nothing extra special about it. I have noticed many items I tried seemed to be a null download, download it and run it does not. I am learning a lot about it now I am online with linux. I do wish it has an easier download means than I see now, like an auto load when it is downloaded or at least inform us that it loaded and will work now. Or bug fixes that are more automatic. And this 8.04 will not upgrade to 8.1 even if I do use the updates and synaptic source . My readings tells me it should be automatic but never did. Oh the one time I did reload my 8.04 was when it nolonger linked to update url's it would always give me the failure to connect to the page. Open the browser and it would show does not exist. Now the same pages shows as valid and my updates are fine. also wish I knew how to save my settings when I do have to reload or upgrade to 8.1 or mint.. Thats the 1st thing i tried. And still I have no player - not even for my dvds. I just removed it rebooted then reloaded again . It still gives me 1 frame every 5 sec. it seems. and DVD will start only to stop loading on intro. -- Totem video player keeps playing in slow motion. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/290098 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a bug assignee. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

I had similar experience when upgrading from intrepid to jaunty. Totem plays in slow motion and besides the quicktime plugin stopped working. After complete removing and then reinstalling them in synaptic they started to work again. -- Totem video player keeps playing in slow motion. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/290098 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a bug assignee. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

Thank you for your bug report. Does gst-launch-0.10 playbin uri=file:///directory/example/video plays it correctly? could you add an example to the bug? it's likely a gstreamer codec issue ** Changed in: totem (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided = Low Assignee: (unassigned) = Ubuntu Desktop Bugs (desktop-bugs) Status: New = Incomplete -- Totem video player keeps playing in slow motion. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/290098 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a bug assignee. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
Re: [Bug 290098] Re: Totem video player keeps playing in slow motion.
I spent 2 hours last night working on it and I finally fixed it. What I did to fix it was to remove Totem all together and then reinstall it again. Then there was an update for Totem that I believe kept if from breaking again. So far so good. closing the bug since that works correctly now, that's weird though because a reinstall should makes no difference ** Changed in: totem (Ubuntu) Status: Incomplete = Invalid -- Totem video player keeps playing in slow motion. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/290098 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a bug assignee. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
Re: [Bug 290098] Re: Totem video player keeps playing in slow motion.
A reinstall from Synaptic Package Manager worked in the past but this last time I had to completely remove Totem and then install it again. So far this has been the only issue I have had with 8.04 on my Eee PC.
