[Bug 372089] Re: Evolution mail dont save password keeps asking
I came across this http://davestechsupport.com/blog/2009/01/16/how-to-remove-ubuntus- password-keyring/ which babbles on about the computer asking for a password to unlock the keyring when it started up. Not quite what we have been experiencing, but it is still related to passwords and the keyring. Any way, it tells you how to delete the keyring and then goes on to tell you to restart and when asked for a password for the keyring to leave it blank. I can remember that I left the password blank with the fresh install of 9.10, which still isn't asking for passwords (yet). If this doesn't work couldn't you just uninstall the keyring? -- Evolution mail dont save password keeps asking https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/372089 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a bug assignee. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 372089] Re: Evolution mail dont save password keeps asking
- @ Paul - I did the upgrade first - that sucked...then I did a fresh install. I haven't tried Thunderbird yet. I also did some digging around regarding this problem. It seems to be directly connected with the gnome keyring. There were a bunch of people who were having (or still are having) this problem in OpenSUSE a few years back on both the KDE and Gnome platform. It seems that if we can get the key manager to not handle the password things might actually work. I tried this. I've substituted my actual email address with "myemailaddress" so a spam bot doesn't pick it up. If you do a trace, you might need to change your PID number as it may be different than mine. Not that any of this helps me because I don't understand any of it... but here it is. r...@x61:/home/phil# gnome-keyring-daemon GNOME_KEYRING_SOCKET=/tmp/keyring-2RyO07/socket SSH_AUTH_SOCK=/tmp/keyring-2RyO07/socket.ssh GNOME_KEYRING_PID=7883 r...@x61:/home/phil# export GNOME_KEYRING_PID=7883 r...@x61:/home/phil# evolution ** (evolution:7888): DEBUG: mailto URL command: evolution %s ** (evolution:7888): DEBUG: mailto URL program: evolution ** (evolution:7888): CRITICAL **: atk_object_set_name: assertion `name != NULL' failed ** (evolution:7888): CRITICAL **: atk_object_set_name: assertion `name != NULL' failed ** (evolution:7888): CRITICAL **: atk_object_set_name: assertion `name != NULL' failed ** (evolution:7888): CRITICAL **: atk_object_set_name: assertion `name != NULL' failed ** (evolution:7888): CRITICAL **: atk_object_set_name: assertion `name != NULL' failed ** (evolution:7888): CRITICAL **: atk_object_set_name: assertion `name != NULL' failed ** (evolution:7888): CRITICAL **: atk_object_set_name: assertion `name != NULL' failed ** (evolution:7888): CRITICAL **: atk_object_set_name: assertion `name != NULL' failed ** (evolution:7888): CRITICAL **: atk_object_set_name: assertion `name != NULL' failed ** (evolution:7888): CRITICAL **: atk_object_set_name: assertion `name != NULL' failed ** (evolution:7888): CRITICAL **: atk_object_set_name: assertion `name != NULL' failed ** (evolution:7888): DEBUG: New account: myemailaddr...@charter.net (pop://myemailaddress%40charter@mail.charter.net/) ** (evolution:7888): DEBUG: Number of email accounts: 1 ** (evolution:7888): DEBUG: EI: SHELL STARTUP ** (evolution:7888): CRITICAL **: atk_object_set_name: assertion `name != NULL' failed ** (evolution:7888): CRITICAL **: atk_object_set_name: assertion `name != NULL' failed ** (evolution:7888): CRITICAL **: atk_object_set_name: assertion `name != NULL' failed ** (evolution:7888): CRITICAL **: atk_object_set_name: assertion `name != NULL' failed ** (evolution:7888): CRITICAL **: atk_object_set_name: assertion `name != NULL' failed e-data-server-ui-Message: Key file does not have key 'pop:__myemailaddress%40charter@mail.charter.net_' e-data-server-ui-Message: Key file does not have key 'pop:__myemailaddress%40charter@mail.charter.net_' e-data-server-ui-Message: Key file does not have key 'pop:__myemailaddress%40charter@mail.charter.net_' e-data-server-ui-Message: Key file does not have key 'pop:__myemailaddress%40charter@mail.charter.net_' e-data-server-ui-Message: Key file does not have key 'pop:__myemailaddress%40charter@mail.charter.net_' e-data-server-ui-Message: Key file does not have key 'pop:__myemailaddress%40charter@mail.charter.net_' ** (evolution:7888): CRITICAL **: atk_object_set_name: assertion `name != NULL' failed ** (evolution:7888): DEBUG: New account: myemailaddr...@charter.net (pop://myemailaddress%40charter@mail.charter.net/) ** (evolution:7888): DEBUG: Number of email accounts: 1 ** (evolution:7888): CRITICAL **: atk_object_set_name: assertion `name != NULL' failed ** (evolution:7888): CRITICAL **: atk_object_set_name: assertion `name != NULL' failed ** (evolution:7888): DEBUG: New account: myemailaddr...@charter.net (pop://myemailaddress%40charter@mail.charter.net/) ** (evolution:7888): DEBUG: Number of email accounts: 1 -- Evolution mail dont save password keeps asking https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/372089 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a bug assignee. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 372089] Re: Evolution mail dont save password keeps asking
Hello Godfrey, Did you upgrade to 9.10 or do a fresh install? I tried an upgrade, which didn't work out too great, so I backed up emails and settings from Evolution and did a clean install. No problems with Evolution as of yet. Johnvan did say it was after setting up the router with pfSense. Like I said earlier though (before installing 9.10), I installed Thunderbird and transfered everything over to that, then tried Evolution again and the problem seemed to have gone. -- Evolution mail dont save password keeps asking https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/372089 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a bug assignee. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 372089] Re: Evolution mail dont save password keeps asking
- @ Paul - I installed the 9.10 distro last night...setup Evolution 2.28.1 - worked for a few hours and has resorted back to asking for the password every now and then. Johnvan mentioned that this problem started after the installation of a new router. So for the record, I'm running a Linksys WRT54G v.6 with the latest firmware. I'm going to poke around in the router for a bit and see if anything jumps out at me. [Bug 372089] Re: Evolution mail dont save password keeps asking
Um, all I can say is I installed Thunderbird and migrated all my mail over from Evolution by copying files across. A day later I tried Evolution again out of curiosity (and continued using it). It has not asked for a single password since. I don't know if installing and setting uip accounts on Thunderbird has changed much, but I installed Thunderbird on 20th, tried Evolution on 21st and it's never asked for a password since, so that's 4 days (and counting). @godfrey Well, not long before 9.1 comes out. If it still happens in that then I'm going back to Windows. [Bug 372089] Re: Evolution mail dont save password keeps asking
- @ Paul - I totally agree with you being on our own. I too have reinstalled, I've made sure the password was in the keyring, I've changed settings...nothing. It's annoying to no end. Every time Evolution goes out to check for mail it prompts for the password. I put it in...sometimes it works - other times I get the message: Unable to connect to POP server pop.yourmailserver.net. Error sending password: -ERR [IN-USE] account is locked by another session for maintenance, try again. I didn't have this problem when I installed the Intrepid/Ibex version - it just worked. [Bug 372089] Re: Evolution mail dont save password keeps asking
I am also having this problem. It occurs when launching Evolution from startup or when closing and reopening Evolution. Reinstalling Evolution did not solve the problem. Reinstalling Ubuntu (fresh install) did not solve the problem. This does not seem to be related with the default keyring password prompt...and it is present in there as well. Password is set to remember. [edit] [preferences] [edit] {receiving e-mail} (checked to remember) {sending e-mail} (checked to remember). At times I can enter the password and it works...at other times I can enter it and it pops up a secondary error message which I have seen no mention of anywhere. After entering password the following message is displayed; Unable to connect to POP server pop.yourmailserver.net. Error sending password: -ERR [IN-USE] account is locked by another session for maintenance, try again. Please enter the POP password for youremailaddr...@yourdomain.net on host pop.yourmailserver.net In this dialog box, you can enter your password. There is a check box (Remember this password), which is checked then Cancel and OK. Now, I substituted "yourmailserver" and "youremailaddr...@yourdomain.net" for obvious reasons. It has my actual address and domain. You can enter it all day long and it won't work. I've tried resetting the password. I've checked and unchecked "remember password" to no avail. This only seemed to crop up with the latest release of Ubuntu in my case. Any suggestions, work arounds or fixes yet? It's obvious that I'm not the only one. [Bug 372089] Re: Evolution mail dont save password keeps asking
Hi, It's over a couple a weeks I have this bug (or the more ancient [#245589]) too. Since I have many mail accounts (pop and imap) in evolution, with all different passwords which I don't all remember, it's getting really a pain to re-enter them several times a day ... I got the impression that any network problem (client or server side) causes evolution to pop up for password on any account it was about to check. If you cancel the dialog, the password is like invalidated until you actually re-enter it. I'm running evolution 2.26.1 with Ubuntu 9.04. -- Evolution mail dont save password keeps asking https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/372089 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a bug assignee. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 372089] Re: Evolution mail dont save password keeps asking
I get this also but if I shut down and reboot entirely the problem goes away for a time. I'm not convinced that this isn't a SECURITY ISSUE. I can go for days without problems ... then this 'loss of passwords' re-appears. Within minutes of me enterring the passwords to re-instate my email accounts (I have multiple accounts) there is a flurry of spam generated from my hijacked accounts. I don't believe this is a 'bug' (per se) .. it has mucjh more the characteristics of a SECURITY BREACH that someone has learned to exploit and requires fixing with a much higher profile than presently assigned. -- Evolution mail dont save password keeps asking https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/372089 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a bug assignee. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
