[Bug 483789] [NEW] gdm does not display correctly when run under NVidia twinview
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gdm I use a laptop with an external display. The laptop has a built in NVidia card and supports NVIdia's 'TwinView'. [Bug 483719] Re: gnome-settings-daemon starts using 70% CPU, requires logout/login to get system responsive again
I'll try to be more specific here. This is reproducible, for me at least, although not reliably. At some point while using my computer, I notice a slowdown, and discover that gnome-settings-daemon is eating CPU. Nothing in particular that I do seems to trigger it. When this occurs, if I kill gnome-settings-daemon, and restart it in a terminal, it immediately jumps back to its previous high CPU usage. Logging out and logging in again restores it to normal. As a triager myself, I realize that this probably isn't enough useful information to go on. Next time this occurs, I will try to restart gnome-settings-daemon with strace and get some more solid data, if that would be useful. -- gnome-settings-daemon starts using 70% CPU, requires logout/login to get system responsive again https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/483719 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a bug assignee. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 483800] [NEW] The gnome-system-monitor application window is gibberrish.
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gnome-system-monitor For some wierd reason, the application window (and just inside the window) the content is all gibberrish. Just arbit lines and dots ... if you see the screenshot you'll understand what I mean. A few things, which may help in isolating the case. 1. The gibberrish moves every second, so i means that the application is working and is rendering 'data' but the output is junk 2. Alt-H works (and two 'up' arrow keys lead to 'Report a bug' works too) ... and thats how I made this bug report... So the application is almost certainly working fine. 3. Haven't seen this peculiar thing with any other application yet, just upgrade from 9.04 yesterday. for e.g. Firefox / Empathy / terminal ... etc. havent had this issue at all. 4. [Bug 389930] Re: grub menu does not display after cold boot on Toshiba laptops
Problem occurs under Jaunty with GRUB 1 on a Tecra M7. All characteristics confirmed. When restarting, GRUB appears. When cold- booting from full shutdown, GRUB menu is not displayed, though O/S selection can be performed successfully using the arrow keys even though the POST splash screen is stuck on the screen. I am also able to make the GRUB menu appear by cold-booting to the frozen POST screen, then giving the machine a hard power-off from the switch and booting again. There is one further detail I would like to add about this bug that may help people more familiar with GRUB's coding. When the glitch occurs and there is no boot menu, another thing always happens. When an O/S is selected to boot (either manually or by timeout) there is a split second where the screen fills with garbage characters (mine look a bit like a Greek sigma with an acute accent) and there is visible an error message in the upper-left corner. It doesn't give a code or stage number, but just says something generic like GRUB Loading... ERROR I think. It's only there for a split second. I think this is important though, because it seems to imply something about the way the computer is executing GRUB is causing an error in GRUB (as opposed to GRUB causing errors in the BIOS). In response to aharown07's comments, I am going to try enabling GRUB 1's background image feature to see if this causes GRUB to appear on-screen. -- grub menu does not display after cold boot on Toshiba laptops https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/389930 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-power-manager in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
