[Bug 242838] Re: builds ill-named PO template

2008-08-16 Thread Gabor Kelemen
There is a small issue left here:

ii language-pack-gnome-hu1:8.04+20080805 GNOME
translation updates for language Hungarian
[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ dpkg -L language-pack-gnome-hu | grep epiphany
/usr/share/locale-langpack/hu/LC_MESSAGES/epiphany-extensions-e_e_version_major.e_e_version_minor.mo
/usr/share/locale-langpack/hu/LC_MESSAGES/epiphany.mo
/usr/share/locale-langpack/hu/LC_MESSAGES/epiphany-extensions-2.22.mo

As you see, the ill-named mo file is still in the package, but this is
only a cosmetic problem, the translations are in place, thanks!

Geez guys, what are you doing?

graphics driver vendor's tool instead?/property
++property name=text translatable=yesIt appears that your graphics

[Bug 315452] Re: blank DVD disc is untranslated in the Select application to open dialog

2009-02-27 Thread Gabor Kelemen
I found this bug recently too:
http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=572888.
The string comes from the shared-mime-info domain, which is translated via the
Translation Project: http://translationproject.org/domain/shared-mime-info.html
Now the problem is, that due to the obsolete work flow TP is using,
translations always lag one release behind the actual code. s-m-i uses a huge
single xml file to store the translations, that is filled with translations at
build time, so the language packs do not help out either. Only exporting the po
files and putting them back to the sources (or moving s-m-i to a more recent
translation management system) before build would help, but this is a
Launchpad feature of the future :(.

[Bug 335693] [NEW] Regression: updating existing .desktop file translations via langpacks no longer possible

2009-02-27 Thread Gabor Kelemen
Public bug reported:

Superseded in jaunty-release on 2009-01-30

glib2.0 (2.19.5-0ubuntu2) jaunty; urgency=low

  * 01_gettext-desktopfiles.patch: Merge OpenSUSE's and our patch:
- Now prefers inline translations over gettext translations, which
fixes a few corner cases (like renaming .desktop files on the
user's desktop), is more in line with the recent gconf patch,
and more palatable for upstream inclusion.

This change introduced a regression:
If a .desktop file already has an inline translation, which is considered wrong
for some reason, the updated translation from the .mo file does not get used
even if it's newer, not the same, or considered correct compared to the
existing one in the file.
This effectively eliminates the usefulness of the X-Ubuntu-Gettext-Domain
magic, isn't it?

An example is Synaptic:
https://translations.launchpad.net/ubuntu/jaunty/+source/synaptic/+pots/synaptic/hu/679/+translate
While the .mo file contains the Current Hungarian translation, this is not
used until I manually remove the old Packaged string from
/usr/share/applications/synaptic.desktop.

Just an idea, but would it be possible to compare the modification date
of the .desktop file and the .mo file and try to use the translation
from the .mo file, if it is newer?

Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-panel

Please backport this upstream bug's patch:
https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=647609

Also, after getting this in and getting some translations, it would be
nice to export the translations and rebuild the package, so that the
applets shipped by gnome-panel could have nicely translated descriptions
in the Add to panel dialog. See also bug #760680 on the reasons behind
this.

[Bug 763042] Re: Personal File Sharing Preferences dialog shows untranslated because gnome-user-share.mo is missing

2011-04-16 Thread Gabor Kelemen
I don't think there is a serious problem here. The changelog[1] shows
that this package was uploaded on 04.13, after being promoted to main.
The language packs were updated on 04.07, so probably we just need to
wait for the next ones.

[Bug 587485] Re: Broadcast preferences not translated

2010-07-14 Thread Gabor Kelemen
Seems that this is because the .desktop file uses the X-GNOME-Gettext-
Domain key to specify the translation domain. If I change this to X
-Ubuntu-Gettext-Domain, it starts to show up localized. Thus,
reassigning to g-c-c.

[Bug 587485] Re: Broadcast preferences not translated

2010-07-14 Thread Gabor Kelemen
Not a g-c-c bug either. Turns out, the tiles are rendered by libslab,
which uses the gnome-desktop package's gnome-desktop-item voodoo to
localize .desktop files. This in turn, is not prepared to handle X
-GNOME-Gettext-Domain:

http://bazaar.launchpad.net/~ubuntu-branches/ubuntu/maverick/gnome-
desktop/maverick/annotate/head:/debian/patches/01_desktopfile_gettext.patch

This should be updated similarly to glib's solution:
http://bazaar.launchpad.net/~ubuntu-branches/ubuntu/maverick/glib2.0/maverick/annotate/head:/debian/patches/01_gettext-desktopfiles.patch
http://bazaar.launchpad.net/~ubuntu-branches/ubuntu/maverick/glib2.0/maverick/annotate/head:/debian/patches/02_gettext-desktopfiles-ubuntu.patch

[Bug 580201] Re: Help tool displays a mix of English and Italian text inside each page

2010-09-18 Thread Gabor Kelemen
It is just simply not translated yet. According to
http://l10n.gnome.org/languages/it/gnome-2-32/doc/ panel clock's manual
is translated only 66%, and those strings on the screenshot show up in
the po file as untranslated.

I don't think there is much we can do, but perhaps you can help the
Italian Gnome translation team translate it. You can contact them on
this page: http://l10n.gnome.org/languages/it/

[Bug 556683] [NEW] Does not use localized values from xslt/gettext/l10n.xml

2010-04-06 Thread Gabor Kelemen
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: yelp

Yelp does not use the localized values from the
/usr/share/xml/gnome/xslt/gettext/l10n.xml file (part of gnome-doc-
utils).

To reproduce:
Open
yelp ghelp:windows#glossary

You should see in the My Computer section links to Control Panel and
Printers and Faxes, hover on these and you see Read the definition
for '%s' in English, where %s is the localized names of Control Panel
and Printers and Faxes.

This string is translated in the mentioned xml file for Hungarian, yet I see it
untranslated both on Karmic and Lucid. Also, the string My Computer is
between quote tags in the source[1], the string telling what quote characters
to use is translated in the same file, yet I see it between English quotes:
“Sajátgép” instead of „Sajátgép”

[Bug 514240] [NEW] Translations should be stripped from the .desktop file

2010-01-29 Thread Gabor Kelemen
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: f-spot

F-Spot uses language packs, which include the translations of its
.desktop file. These are imported into Launchpad and then exported.

Normally, before they are imported, they are stripped from the source
.desktop file, which is then shipped with no translations, which will
actually be loaded from the .mo files in the language packs (see
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/UbuntuDevelopment/Internationalisation#Desktop%20Entries).

However, the .desktop file is shipped with full translations, which
override those in the language packs. In order for them to be stripped,
the X-Ubuntu-Gettext-Domain must be added to the .desktop file.

This happened because gcalctool was downgraded to 2.28, and the template
is from 2.30. In theory, the template was uploaded before the freeze (I
even tested it!), and it should be in the langpack... but this is just
the theory :(. Currently, in Lucid the template has 267 stings, in Gnome
2.30 it has 269, in Gnome 2.28 452.
