[Bug 130949] epiphany session management does not restore exactly

You have been subscribed to a public bug:

Binary package hint: epiphany

When I boot and log in to my old session Epiphany ask me wether I want to
restore the last browsing sesion or not.

one time on the workspace where the corresponding windows was at last
log in and one time at the current workspace.

[Bug 132034] soundjuicer should use F2 to enter track information

2007-08-12 Thread Tim
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: sound-juicer

Hello,
entering new track information in Soundjuicer should be more accessible with
keys:
Soundjuicer should therefore use F2 to enter new unknown track information.

The manual states:

To edit the title of a track, first select the track, then click on the
title. When you have finished entering the title, press the Enter key
on your keyboard, or click outside the title.

Please try to use F2 to get the cursor into the title of a track. After
pressing Enter the cursor should automatically go into the next title
field to let the user enter the information for the next track.

= F2 / Enter is very common for such cases for instances in spread
sheets, etc.

Thanks for attending this.

[Bug 125032] Re: gimp save dialog doesn't change extentision in file name

2007-08-13 Thread Tim
I change the type of the image by selecting the filetype in the field of
the save-as dialog.

Well, if I don't change the file name then it does change the extension
correctly (e.g. from .png to .gif).

But if I type in a new name -- without entering a extension -- and change the
file type then the save as dialog doesn't automatically change/add the
corresponding extension.
= It seems that this is not a Gimp bug. It rather refers to the gnome-save-as
dialog.

Thanks for attending this!

[Bug 137625] Re: gedit crashes on a simple text file of 6000 lines

2007-09-06 Thread Tim
Here's the information:

- the version of ubuntu you are using
= 2.6.20-16-generic, Ubuntu 7.04
- the version of python-gnome2 (as seen in the synaptic package manager)
= 2.18.0-ubuntu1
- the version of the libgnome2-0 (as seen in the synaptic package manager)
= .18.0-ubuntu1
Can you tell us if you have upgraded from another version of ubuntu, or if it
is a fresh install?
Installed as Drapper, upgraded to edgy, feist via the update-manager.

In Edgy the same file opened without problems.
May this be a problem with some plug-in?

There is already autocompletion for programming languages, no?
Yes.
What do you want to get completed and how?
the above mentioned plugin completes words in any texts (plain, script,
program) that you type in. if there are more than one opportunities than you
may select the suitable one and press TAB like in any terminal to complete.

Very useful for non touch-typers but also for programmers who have to

[Bug 117823] gedit should be able to zoom text size

2007-05-30 Thread Tim
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gedit

Although I have seen that Gnome developers are not in favor of this
(http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=152730) I think this should
be implemented since it augments accessability of Gedit.

Please try to urge developers to take a second consideration on this.

Thanks!

[Bug 119682] automatically delete files from certain folders

2007-06-10 Thread Tim
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nautilus

I am using thunderbird a lot. It has a nice feature that helps to keep
your disk clean:

Select a time after which messages will be deleted in folder properties.

Could such a option be incorporated in the Nautilus folder properties?

A possible use case:

You buy a travel ticket online and save it. After you came back from the
journey all related files will still linger around an occupy disk space. At the
time you create the folder you know exactly that you won't need the files after
the jouney and can therefore urge nautilus to delete them or even the folder
itself.
Just like the proteced folders get a padlock symbol these folders could be
attached with a clock symbol.

Just a idea...

[Bug 99493] incoherent kyboard shortcuts in gedit

2007-03-31 Thread Tim
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gedit

Nearly all Gnome (and a few others such as firefox) map the keyboard
shortcuts for tab switching as follows:

CTRL+PAGE-UP = next tab
CTRL+PAGE-DOWN = previous tab

in Gedit this doesn't work.

Every tab is mapped individually with
ALT+1, ALT+2, ALT+3, ALT+n

Could this be adapted to the behaviour of all other programs?

Thanks!

[Bug 99493] Re: incoherent kyboard shortcuts in gedit

2007-04-03 Thread Tim
citeing:
bug. ctrl-pagedown,pageup are already used by the text widget to go to the end
and the start of a line

That's just another inconsistency:

Nearly all softwares - and as well Gedit - use
* HOME/POS1 for a jump to the beginning of a line
* END for a jump to the end of a line

P.S. The redesign of this page is very nice. But the accessability is
not very good: this grey in this very textbox has such a bad contrast.
It's barely readable. Where can I make a suggestion to change it?

I not so sure that this is a duplicate of that bug,
I initially thought the problem might have been related to the
gnome-screensaver issue, however that seems to be a separate issue/bug.

I think the monitors not sleeping is a problem with the nvidia drivers.

[Bug 237402] [NEW] Brasero cannot write to my cd drive

2008-06-04 Thread Tim
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: brasero

This might not be a brasero bug, but I notice it most in that app. Basically,
it doesn't recognize my cd drives ability to burn cds. I get this message: the
medium is not writable with the current set of plugins.
With cdrecord, on the command line, I can burn things just fine. Trying to burn
with CD/DVD Creator starts to work but then spits out the CD, saying that
there was an error writing to the disk.
I think that what is happening is that the wrong settings are getting used. My
drive is very old and only I think it only supports TAO mode. I think most
programs assume the ability to do at least DAO or SAO now (which the drive
reports it is able to do but I think I had a problem with that before). The
drive is a Sony CDU-928E. Cdrecord says that it seems to be a CDU924s.
It isn't a big deal, I clearly don't burn CDs that often, I just thought it
might help to report it. I'm actually surprised that it took this long to stop
being supported by most Linux apps as using this drive in Windows brings the
system to its knees.
Oh, and I'm using Hardy though I noticed this being a problem back in Feisty as
well.

[Bug 238636] [NEW] undesired behavior: gnome-power-manager forces shutdown/suspend/hibernate with adapter plugged in

2008-06-09 Thread tim
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-power-manager

Gnome-power-manager forces a shutdown/hibernate/suspend (depending on
settings) when battery is low, even when adapter is plugged in.

Steps to reproduce:
1. Unplug adapter. Suspend laptop.
2. Wait till battery is low..
3. plug adapter in. Unsuspend laptop. Be powerless to stop the laptop from
being shutdown even though the power manager recognizes the adapter being
connected (from the icon)

Expected behaviour:
Do not shutdown/suspend/hibernate when the adapter is plugged in. Poll for
battery status before taking action. Only take action when battery is
critically low, when it's charging it doesn't matter that there's only 1%
battery left so it's not critical.

[Bug 137625] Re: gedit crashes on a simple text file of 6000 lines

2007-09-07 Thread Tim
Hi,
first thanks you for looking into my problem that extensively.

I already noticed that I have the 2 Python versions.
But there are programs that still rely on these:

$: sudo apt-get remove python2.4
Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree
Reading state information... Done
The following packages were automatically installed and are no longer required:
  libgdal1-grass
Use 'apt-get autoremove' to remove them.
The following packages will be REMOVED:
  libqgis0 python-all python-all-dev python2.4 python2.4-dev
  python2.4-examples qgis qgis-plugin-grass scribus scribus-template
0 upgraded, 0 newly installed, 10 to remove and 0 not upgraded.
Need to get 0B of archives.
After unpacking 75.1MB disk space will be freed.
Do you want to continue [Y/n]?

I'd like to maintain these programs.

I had this conflict in various ocasions like when I wanted to start a
develpment version of a program that uses wxpython. python always uses
the python2.4 version of wxpython whereas the program would need the 2.5
version...

I had already reported this problem in the forums:
python runtime warning
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=543205

I don't know what to do because I am not a fulltime coder and only a
python beginner.

Should I define the $PYTHON variable as in this thread here:
http://www.nabble.com/Python-C-API-version-mismatch-tf1393711.html#a3746481

Thanks again and regards!

I found the follwing setting in my .bashrc:

export PYTHONPATH=/usr/lib/python2.4/site-packages/

which I had put there after installing basemap for matplotlib. After
removing it all Python is now running smoothly.

The issue seems to be solved!

[Bug 80856] Re: F-Spot as default for importing photos

2007-10-16 Thread Tim
I think Gthumb should be the default. It is a very mature application
that I personally have used off and on for many years without a single
problem. F-Spot on the other hand crashes constantly, always in new and
interesting ways. I mean, I find that exciting, a sort of adventure. How
will F-Spot crash today? Who knows. That is why I use it. However, as a
default application it may not be the best as not all users like the
adventure of random crashes in basic functions of the application, like
importing photos. I do think it has promise and should be kept in the
repository though. It shouldn't be installed by default, nor should it
be the default application for anything. Really, it shouldn't even be
recommended. I do hope that someday soon it is mature enough for every
day use, but that isn't the case right now. F-spot does have the cool
factor and is a very slick application when it's working properly.
Eventually it should be the default, but please make sure it is stable
before making it the default.

[Bug 373774] [NEW] weather details tooltip does not work in clock applet 9.04 64-bit

2009-05-08 Thread Tim
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-applets

Ubuntu 9.04 64-bit fresh install. I set two locations in the clock
applet to show weather. The weather icon displays properly (shows sun,
clouds, rain icons) but the tooltip does not work when hovering the
mouse over the weather icon. In Ubuntu 8.04, when I hovered the mouse
over the weather icon, a tooltip would pop up with weather details such
as temperature and windspeed. This behaviour is not present in 9.04.

In the standalone gweather applet, which I have set to the other panel
on my desktop, hovering over with the mouse does display a tooltip with
further details. So the behavior works in the standalone applet, but
not in the clock applet.

It was suggested on Ubuntu Forums to click Set next to the location.
I tried this and it had no effect on the problem. Thus, I am unable to
see any weather details beyond what the icon shows me in any remote
locations I set here.

Gnome version 2.26 (fully updated, default install of Jaunty).

I moused over the weather icons, and I tried mousing over every other
pixel in the dropdown menu from clicking on the clock applet. The
tooltips do not pop up for weather details like they did in Hardy. If
you like, I can attach screenshots of the tooltips working on regular
gweather applet, and not working within the clock applet. Thank you for
the quick response!

[Bug 373774] Re: weather details tooltip does not work in clock applet 9.04 64-bit

2009-05-08 Thread Tim
I believe so. I have two locations set and neither location tooltips
the weather when mousing over. Yesterday, I did add a third location
just to test, and it too did not display any tooltips when mousing over.
I've also tried clicking Set on all locations and that did not
alleviate the problem either. I also tried searching through gconf-
editor for any checkboxes that might indicate enabling/disabling the
tooltip behavior. I did not find any specific to the clock applet, so I
made no changes in gconf-editor.

2009-05-11 Thread Tim
I will do my best. I don't recall changing many settings, and I do have
a text file where I try to maintain all changes, and don't see anything
obvious in there. This is basically a fresh install with some
additional installed apps. There is a thread at Ubuntu Forums with a
few others who've had this problem. In one case a fresh OS install
fixed it, in some others, clicking Set next to a location fixed it.
If I come across the setting that broke this, I'll report back.
Otherwise, I suppose I may have to do a fresh install and never figure
out the setting.

[Bug 362318] [NEW] Editing calendar events to recur forever corrupts the calendar the event is tied to

2009-04-16 Thread Tim
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evolution

-create a calendar event that recurs weekly. Evolution defaults to 1
occurrence, which is a separate issue that I feel should be addressed (the
point of a recurring event is that it happens more than once).
-save event. See that it's not recurring on the calendar.
-open event, click Recurrence and change for 1 occurrence to forever.
-Close, Save.
-a window pops up asking You are modifying a recurring event. What would you
like to modify? Select All Instances and OK. Evolution immediately greys
out and must be force quit.

After this, Evolution will start up fine in email mode, but when you
switch to Calendar mode, Evolution locks up again and must be force quit
each time you access the Calendar. The workaround is to go into home
directory .evolution/calendar/local/system and delete the calendar.ics
file. This erases your calendar so be sure you have a backup before
continuing. You can re-import your calendar and start again.

Note: If you correctly set up the calendar event the first time (ie,
weekly, recurring forever) without going back and editing the event, it
will be created properly with no lock ups.

[Bug 384505] [NEW] More persistent calendar reminders

2009-06-07 Thread Tim
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evolution

I find it rather easy to miss a calendar reminder in Evolution. It
appears that Evolution, 1) only reminds via notification icon, which is
not as noticeable as a pop-up window. Only after one clicks on the
notification icon does a pop-up come on the screen for a more noticeable
reminder. However, it's too easy to miss the notification icon, which
means one may never get an opportunity to see the actual pop-up
reminder. 2) If ones computer is not actually ON when the reminder is
scheduled to remind, the window of opportunity passes and one never sees
the reminder. For example, set a reminder for 15 minutes, then turn
computer off for 16 minutes. Turn computer back on, reminder does not
activate. 3) Once an event is past, Evolution reminder is automatically
dismissed. Even if one is late for an appointment, it is still helpful
to receive the reminder, but the way Evolution's reminders work, once
the event time hits, the reminder will never remind you again.

In contrast, the calendaring system of Thunderbird's Lightning extension
will 1) automatically pop up a very noticeable reminder on the screen
without any user intervention, 2) pop up the reminder even if you turn
your computer on after the reminder was set to activate, and 3) will
persist in reminding you even past the appointment time, until you
explicitly dismiss the appointment yourself. It will never dismiss
an appointment without your consent.

[Bug 384505] Re: More persistent calendar reminders

2009-06-09 Thread Tim
I've gotten some feedback that indicates that on other distros,
Evolution may automatically pop up calendar reminders rather than my
experience of the reminder initiating in the notification area, only to
pop up after clicking on notification icon. Perhaps this is an Ubuntu-
specific setting? I can't test because I don't use any other distros.

Regardless, the other issues with reminders not activating if the
computer is turned on after the scheduled reminder time, and the
reminders being dismissed without user consent once appointment time is
reached seem pretty critical as far as reminders go. I would hesitate
to call these feature requests or enhancements.

[Bug 384505] Re: More persistent calendar reminders

2009-06-10 Thread Tim
Here is the basis of my query on whether Ubuntu changes default
behaviour:

Also, I have found that when the alarm notifier shows up in the notification
area, it is VERY easy to accidentally dismiss the alarm. You must
left-click in order for the Appointments window to pop up. If you
accidentally right-click (as I often do), the alarm basically turns off for
that event forever (unless you manually set the alarm to repeat).

I would like to be able to disable the right-click behavior and I'd also
like for the Appointments window to pop up by itself, without me having to
 left-click the notification icon.

Using SVN trunk on openSUSE-11.0 - all my reminders pop up as windows,
by default. I'm not aware of reminders in the notification area.
(Ubuntu specific patch probably?)

Here is the link to the thread:
http://www.nabble.com/forum/ViewPost.jtp?post=18317635framed=y

It sounds like OpenSUSE has the behavior I am looking for in Ubuntu.
Since SUSE and Evolution are both Novell creations, it seems that SUSE's
behaviour should be the default upstream behavior?

[Bug 384505] Re: More persistent calendar reminders

2009-06-10 Thread Tim
I just found this on Ubuntu Forums from Sept. 23, 2008:

To anyone else who wants to make Evolution just pop up the alert dialog
with the snooze button directly instead of a tray alert, here's the fix:

1) ALT+F2 for a run dialog, and type 'gconf-editor'

2) navigate to apps/evolution/calendar/notify

3) de-select the 'notify_with_tray' entry.

Link: http://ubuntuforums.org/showpost.php?p=5841961postcount=9

Given that SUSE apparently does this by default, does this indicate that
Ubuntu changes upstream behavior to notify_with_tray?

If this indeed works (I still must test as I am running Ubuntu 9.04 and
things may have changed since Sept 23, 2008), it will only leave the
behavior of automatically dismissing reminders as a problem.

[Bug 384505] Re: More persistent calendar reminders

2009-06-10 Thread Tim
I tested de-selecting notify_with_tray and it worked brilliantly!
This should be the default behavior IMO. As a side-note, I noticed an
appointment showing from a time prior to I turned my computer on, so it
appears the behavior I was describing earlier has changed. I'm not sure
I can explain why and how, but perhaps it was a mistake on my part.
Feel free to close this bug report, unless there is any desire on
Ubuntu's part to de-select notify_with_tray by default.

[Bug 479167] Re: Missing controls in Sound Preferences

2010-07-13 Thread Tim
Pedro,

I'm running a fully updated Lucid install and the Sound Preferences look
exactly the same. There are tabs for Sound Effects, Hardware, Input,
Output, and Applications. In none of these sections is there any
settings other than volume and balance. If, however, I type in
alsamixer into a terminal window, I have access to all adjustable
settings. I don't know which new version of Gnome Media you are
referring to, but I see no difference on my system (in Sound
Preferences). Or is this something that is not in the standard repos?
