[Desktop-packages] [Bug 173343] Re: Moving files to trash results in a permanent delete
New bug reporter of old bug. Selecting 'Move to Trash' removes the file completely, and it is not in the trash can. The removed file is also flagged as 'Missing' by Rhythmbox. (That is also a bit strange.) It is reproducible both from playlist view and 'Music' view. Basically two problems: 1. The user interface itself: It is far too easy to accidentally click 'Move to Trash', when you really just want to remove it from the playlist. This is in part exacerbated by the fact that there is no (visible) keyboard shortcut for doing the safe thing, so you _have_ to use the menu with the closely placed menu items. 2. Move to trash is apparently affected by a bug where the file is removed permanently, or at least moved to an unknown location (not trash). Will create a new user and see if I can reproduce the problem again. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to rhythmbox in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/173343 Title: Moving files to trash results in a permanent delete Status in “rhythmbox” package in Ubuntu: Invalid Bug description: Binary package hint: rhythmbox I am using Rhythmbox 0.11.2, recently I selected a song and accidentally chose move to trash after right clicking. I installed the nautilus 1:3.2.1-0ubuntu1 package from ubuntu proposed and all packages related and I still experience the following behavior: Expected behavior: - Open nautilus in ANY folder. - Start typing name of folder/file. - Nautilus selects folders/file matching as you type (one file at a time matching what is in the search/typeahead box). - Type backspace - Deletes the last character typed in search/typeahead box Actual Behavior - Open nautilus in ANY folder. - Start typing the name of a folder/file. - Sometimes the search box opens and sometimes it does not. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 173343] Re: Moving files to trash results in a permanent delete
Created a 'rhythmboxtestuser' and copied a single folder of music (10 songs) to that user. When using the 'Move to trash' function, the music file is correctly placed in the trash can. (The file is still added to the 'missing files' list, which is a bit strange, but maybe it is so by design.) So. The problem appears to be user-specific. I didn't change any properties for the test user, so it uses the brand new (optional in 11.04, mandatory in 11.10) user interface, whereas my 'real' user has reverted to the old Gnome UI. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 889422] [NEW] Libreoffice calc FILEOPEN very slow, it takes about 15 minutes
Public bug reported: I first asked around in the ubuntu newsgroups, and people there asked me to file this bug in Bugzilla/Libreoffice and also in launchpad to make sure it is not a Kubuntu packaging issue. Further info and strace log files can be found on bugzilla Bug 42684 - FILEOPEN very slow, network/dns related, it takes about 15 minutes I am running Kubuntu 11.10 and the version of LO is LibreOffice 3.4.3 OOO340m1 (Build:302) The problem is that LO wants to resolve url's + their security certificates present in the sheet I guess some urls cannot be resolved, and after about 15 minutes, LO gives up and finally opens the document. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 863834] Re: [regression] Suspend on lid close broken on Oneiric
Guys, i don't know much and i maybe very wrong, but i think i managed to partially solve it. If you open /etc/acpi/lid.sh, which is the script being called when the lid is closed, has nowhere pm-suspend command which actually suspends the computer. I added the line pm-suspend after all the ifs are closed and it suspends, but on wake up it does not ask for password. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 863154] Re: Wacom Bamboo One tablet random coordinate malfunctions
LINUX MINT 12 Release Candidate TEST of 64-bit DVD Version downstream development of UBUNTU 11.10 Version. http://ftp.heanet.ie/pub/linuxmint.com/testing/linuxmint-12-gnome-dvd- 64bit-rc.iso Released November 10th, 2011, Time: 9:16 1.0 GB Download Bug persists in GIMP 2.6.11 with streaks to the edge of the screen using Genius Mousepad 8x6 tablet and pen. In Gnome 3.2.1 with MGSE, the bug is horrific. In MATE desktop environment the bug is significantly less. It is even less in Gnome Classic and least apparent in Gnome Classic (No Effects) desktop environments. The same is true of the bug manifestation in UBUNTU 11.10 from worst to least: UNITY Gnome Classic = Lubuntu = Xubuntu Gnome Classic No Effects. So trying to evade this bug by jumping to the upcoming version of Linux Mint 12 will not help at this time. In fact, the Gnome 3.2.1 3D environment was so bad that the drawing could not keep up with pen movement in addition to having to deal with the spontaneous streaking from the bug. I am running a triple core AMD CPU at 3.1 GHz so this graphics performance is disastrous. The performance was irrelevant to whether my tablet drivers were installed or removed. This leaves only two options: 1) Drop-kick back to UBUNTU 11.04/Linux Mint 11, or, 2) Try another distribution of Linux along Debian development design. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to gimp in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/863154 Title: Wacom Bamboo One tablet random coordinate malfunctions Status in The GNU Image Manipulation Program (GIMP): Unknown Status in “gimp” package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Bug description: The tablet in overall seems to work correctly, with all pressure- features working. But quite frequently, while drawing, GIMP seems to wrongly read the coordinates of the stylus (as zeros, or negative values?), resulting in frequent, random 'line-peaks' in the direction of the left and upper image edges. With this bug it is hard to even use the tablet, since these problems are very frequent (see the exemplary image attached). The tablet works with no problems in MyPaint. The bug is reproducible in both Unity-2d and Unity-3d. I also notice the CPU usage increasing dramatically during drawing with any brush. Steps to reproduce: 1. Connect the Wacom Bamboo One tablet 2. Open GIMP 3. Start drawing longer strokes with any brush Expected result: The brush stroke as intended by moving the stylus Actual result: The brush stroke as intended with frequent, random line-strokes towards image edges System: Ubuntu 11.10 oneiric (development branch) GIMP version: 2.6.11 (package version: 2.6.11-2ubuntu3) To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/gimp/+bug/863154/+subscriptions -- Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~desktop-packages Post to : desktop-packages@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~desktop-packages More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 879513] Re: nautilus keeps active window status when it shouldn't
Ok, so I have been able to come up with a use case that always reproduces the bug for me. It seems I left out a critical piece of information. You must already have gedit open with another file. ** Description changed: Expected behaviour: + - Open gedit so that it is active on your workspace (my tests show no opened file is needed but gedit needs to already be open) - In the folder window press enter to open a text document - Wait for gedit to go full screen - The active window should now be gedit, press ctrl+f to search for text and perform over keyboard commands on gedit Actual Behaviour: Nautilus keeps the active window status even though gedit may be completely full screen. Any key commands pressed go to nautilus even though the window it hiding behind the now full screen application. gedit is just the example, it could be any application not opened with the mouse. You can't really browse software center, it's REALLY slow... Also there is two banners at the top, it shows OpenShot and Braid -- it did that on my sisters computer a few days ago too. But, you can't click these banners; and I believe that the intention is that you should be able to do so and get directed to some program descriptor thingie. Also, I tried to search for OpenShot -- but the software center did not respond to that command (it did not hung up). I have not been able to install a single program with the software center, so I've been forced to use the terminal; Which is not a too big deal for me, but really, my sister is 11yrs and I can't really expect that she will grok the terminal anytime soon (I've tried to learn her git via the terminal once, which did not work out too well as she did not want to type any commands herself. Luckily, there were a few graphical frontends. I installed like five and told her to use to one she likes the most). I've bought a few games like braid, osmos and a few others, both to myself and my sister -- and I hate that I have to go to her laptop and install the stuff for her... You have major regressions going on with Ubuntu! It used to be _easier_ than windows! Also (in the past), the software center were the way I found out about useful software. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 869635] Re: long delay at shutdown/reboot - network-manager doesn't close correctly
I got the same errors as Harald after trying the above. It was still very slow to shutdown and sometimes didn't shutdown at all. The only way I could previously get it to shutdown reliably was with a sudo shutdown -h now. I have now found if I remove the network manager it completely fixes it. I now have no errors and quick shutdown. sudo apt-get remove network-manager If I re-install the above network manager, the problem comes back. So that is definitely the cause in my case. I have installed wicd as a replacement network manager. I did this before removing the Ubuntu supplied network manager. I am using 11.10 that has been upgraded from 11.04. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 887867] Re: Library monitoring not working, rescan shows nonexistent files and folders, no more missing files
This is what I did to try to break rhythmbox again: while rhythmbox is open, in Nautilus I made a temporary music library folder with just one song (as opposed to 30,000 songs, which seems to make the debug output files massively long) changed the library folder in rhythmbox settings and closed rhythmbox renamed the ~/.local/shared/rhythmbox/rhythmboxdb.xml file to a backup copy, to start from scratch opened rhythmbox (output file 01 started) in nautilus, renamed the song file (the only song in the library); rhythmbox seems to update the file properties correctly in nautilus created album folder and dragged file in the new subfolder; in rhythmbox, one file still shows, but in the properties dialog, the location is now /home/dg/Desktop/(null) opened the file in cowbell, changed tag info, saved the changes (which also renames the file itself); still no missing file status showing in the rhythmbox sidebar, still only one file showing up, location still /home/dg/Desktop/(null) opened file with soundconverter, to convert from 192 bitrate to 128 bitrate; this creates a new file in a subfolder; no updating in rhythmbox yet, so went to menu bar to open preferences (which historically has appeared to force a rescan of the library); that did nothing, so i unticked and attempted to retick watch library for new files and rhythmbox crashed (in the terminal, the message was segmentation fault) restarting rhythbox (output file 02 started) same erroneous file (just one though) shows in library window, try to play it, but it will not play in the settings, the watch library for new files box did not get ticked before the segfault, so reticking it now; library does not update in rhythmbox closing rhythmbox via window title bar button; does not stop rhythmbox though (does not terminate in the terminal) open system monitor and rhythmbox is listed as sleeping with channel being futex_wait_queue_me; selecting end process restarting rhythmbox (output file 03 started) now the library shows 3 files, 2 of which exist in nautilus, deleting the original 192 bitrate file, dragging the new 128 bitrate file up from the subfolder, and deleting the subfolder; the rhythmbox library does drop one file, but still shows the nonexistent file at /home/dg/Desktop/(null); the rhythmbox side pane does update to show a missing file, which i right click and remove in nautilus I rename the file; rhythmbox updates it correctly in nautilus, I make a new folder and drag the file into it, and delete the old folder; the one correct file now shows up in the rhythmbox library at /home/dg/Desktop/(null) restarting rhythbox (output file 04 started) I try playing the null files and then the GUI seems to go into an endless loop; i click the window title bar button to close rhythmbox, and then a third file shows up and the loop stops i try to play the newly displayed file and the rhythmbox window dims and seems frozen I clicked the x in the window title bar and selected force quit restarted rhythmbox (output file 05 begun) the correct file does now play, the two null files are still listed, and no missing files are listed closing rhythmbox, done trying to break it Unfortunately, I cannot figure out how to replicate the situation where the old 192 bitrate file still shows up (not at a null location, but at the actual pa that did in fact exist a few minutes ago) Hope this helps even without that additional condition being replicated ** Attachment added: debug output (using separate files, as they seemed to get overwritten upon restart otherwise) https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/rhythmbox/+bug/887867/+attachment/2594441/+files/rhythmbox-debug-01.txt -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to rhythmbox in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/887867 Title: Library monitoring not working, rescan shows nonexistent files and folders, no more missing files Status in “rhythmbox” package in Ubuntu: Incomplete Bug description: $ apt-cache policy rhythmbox rhythmbox: Installed: 2.90.1~20110908-0ubuntu1 Candidate: 2.90.1~20110908-0ubuntu1 Version table: *** 2.90.1~20110908-0ubuntu1 0 500 http://us.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ oneiric/main i386 Packages 100 /var/lib/dpkg/status Using Ubuntu 11.10 (32 bit), and using Rhythmbox 2.90.1, I set my preferences to watch for changes in the library folder. In the attached screenshot, the file circled in red is the only file actually present. This did not happen to me in previous versions of Rhythmbox, at least, not that I am aware of. I'm not sure it was even occurring during the week or two I had done a dist-upgrade from the ~64 bit~ version of Natty to the Oneiric RC (and thus the GTK+3 version of Rhythmbox) before doing a clean install of the 32 bit version of the Oneiric final release. Unticking and reticking the watch for changes in library option combined with restarting Rhythmbox and rebooting the computer has no effect. Manually right-clicking on a file in the library view in Rhythmbox, and selecting move to trash has no effect other than to place a red error icon on the row of the file in question. Only selecting remove in the right-click context menu actually removes it. * This time around, after the fresh install of Ubuntu 11.10, and installing Rhythmbox, and uninstalling Banshee, the only thing I did before setting my library folder was to manually copy and paste some iradio entries into the ~/.local/share/rhythmbox/rhythmbox.db xml database file before it got cluttered with thousands of non-iradio entries (songs). The missing files function in the library UI was briefly working today, as was the import errors function, now no files show up as missing, even though they are actually missing. I don't know what changed to cause the different behavior. * Oddly, this bug seems like it may have cured a separate, longstanding bug I've had with Rhythmbox: usually when I restarted Rhythmbox in the past, a restart took two attempts, the first attempt resulting in a crash and the second attempt actually restarting Rhythmbox. Then I make changes within a given subfolder and/or to the subfolder itself, for example, renaming via Nautilus, Soundconverter, or Cowbell, or a combination thereof. The next time I launch Rhythmbox, it shows nonexistent files in the library. For example, where there is only one file, there are two other copies still shown; one copy is the way the file/folder/both was previously named, and the other copy is in a non-existent folder way outside of the library, with a peculiar name, /home/dg/(null)/filename (if the null folder exists, I cannot locate it). So far this does not seem to be happening, but if it resumes I will note it here.
