[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1019395] Re: At random times NM applet menu stops responding
I have had it every since the 11.10 Unity release. It affects menus and non-Unity system tray icon menus also (like shutter, empathy, reminna). I believe it is actually a Unity/Compiz problem rather than Network Manager specific. It definitely does not require a suspend/restore to happen, just enough time/activity. What happens is after a period of use, usually less that a day, some kind of resource appear to run out or have leaked itself out. Then various things that require the resources stop works; so dynamically- created menus tend to be the first victims. The Network Manager VPN menu is definitely once of the most crippling because I know no work-around. Certainly no amount of restarting NM etc, will help. Logging out and logging back in again will fix it for a few hours, then you'll be screwed again. I suspect, without any proof of knowledge, that the fault hits when you get close to needing to page or reclaim memory. I have 8GB and usually would be at ~7GB in used for applications/VM when it hits. That could just be coincidence though. I have given up expecting any of major Unity bugs to get fixed, so I just live with it until I get my next laptop, which of course will definitely not have Unity. Maybe Mint, or hell, Windows XP would be a step up at this stage :-) In the meantime, if anyone has any work-around that doesn't require a log-out I'd love to hear about it. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to network-manager-applet in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1019395 Title: At random times NM applet menu stops responding Status in “network-manager-applet” package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Bug description: At random times, Network Manager's whole menu stops working. If I'm already connected (I mainly use wifi), then network keeps working fine, however none of the items in the menu does anything. Examples, I click on Edit Networks = nothing happens. I click on Disconnect = nothing happens I click on more networks = a tiny empty submenu is shown (instead of a list of available wifi networks, and there are plenty of them here) Rebooting fixes the issue. This is almost certainly a regression in a recent update, as I never experienced this until recently. This may be happening after suspend/resume, but I'm not sure. ** Changed in: banshee (Ubuntu) Status: Triaged = Fix Released -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to banshee in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/728046 Title: Banshee opens volume slider partiall off-screen Status in Banshee Music Player: Fix Released Status in “banshee” package in Ubuntu: Fix Released Bug description: Binary package hint: banshee With a maximised Banshee window, clicking on the pop-up volume control in the top-right hand corner will open the volume-slider partially obscured off the top of the screen. The issue is because the slider popup is opened centered around the position of the mouse pointer at the point that the button is clicked. Ideally the popup should be bounded to the current screen edges when it is positioned and displayed. It is not specifically related to maximisation or placement at the top of the screen; the issue can also be demonstrated by moving the Banshee window toolbar level with the bottom of the screen and clicking to activate the popup similarly. To resolve this issue the following changes are required: 1) It should be possible to remove specific file system icons from the Launcher by un-checking the “Unlock from Launcher” option (or dragging to the trash). 2) In the case of non-removable file systems, the system should remember these settings so that rebooting will not return these icons to the Launcher. 3) In the case of removable file systems (USB keys, SD cards, etc...), if a removable file system is removed and then re-attached it should re-appear in the Launcher. If the removable file system is not removed and the user has removed it's icon from the Launcher, the icon should not return to the Launcher even if the computer is re-booted. 4) All 'specific file system' icons that the user has removed from the Launcher should be displayed in the Dash file Lens in the “Favourite Folders/Folders” category. This allows the user to re-add these icons to the Launcher at a later date. ** Changed in: indicator-messages Status: Incomplete = Invalid ** Changed in: indicator-messages (Ubuntu) Status: Incomplete = Invalid -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to thunderbird in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/957922 Title: Thunderbird's messaging menu highlight helps some people but not many Status in Ayatana Design: In Progress Status in The Messaging Menu: Invalid Status in “indicator-messages” package in Ubuntu: Invalid Status in “thunderbird” package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Bug description: By default, when new emails arrive in Thunderbird, they *sometimes* highlight the messaging menu. As described by Chris Coulson, a message highlights the menu if: - The message is sent with high-priority OR - The message is flagged (by a filter) OR - The message is addressed directly to the recipient (eg, not CC) AND the message is not low prioirty AND the message wasn't automated AND the message is not from a mailing list. This is good behavior for some people, but not for others, e.g. ViViD: In my personal case, no message received through Thunderbird lacks importance. Since I hide the launcher by default, many mails go unnoticed for a time and I find myself randomly mousing over the launcher to check mails. To suit more people, Thunderbird should contain a setting for which messages highlight the messaging menu. One option should be to highlight messages if they are from one of your contacts. This setting needs design, and then proposing (and maybe implementing) upstream. So the line except-interface=lo in /etc/dnsmasq.d/network-manager which was added in 0.9.6.0~git201207161259.00297f4-0ubuntu1 should be removed. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1044974] [NEW] Rhythmbox hangs with stupid alert box when syncing iPod
Public bug reported: Having deleted all the songs from my iPod Touch 16GB I was trying to put another 10GB of songs back on. Wasn't optimistic, thanks to Apple's obfuscated protocols, and sure enough about a half hour later the whole thing had hung, with a blank alert box and a greyed out screen. The music I was playing went on for a bit, but even that has stopped now. Screenshot attached below, and no, I didn't want 50 copies of Texas Put your arms around me. Please don't take this as a sign of my musical tastes. It was a test run with my girlfriend's music and clearly a bug that it is somehow writing so many of the same track to the iPod, or maybe a visual glitch. Hopefully apport has attached relevant PID information now, so I'm going to force quit it and try again. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1019395] Re: At random times NM applet menu stops responding
@Aaron, my workaround is to kill nm-applet (not Metwork Manager itself) and restart it. It does fix the issue for me... for a few hours, until it appears again (but that also applies to logging out and in). It's annoying though because the only way I know of doing this is from a terminal, and then I am obliged to keep the terminal open forever (even though I relaunch nm-applet with nm-applet with the ). But I guess someone can give us a solution for this? -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to network-manager-applet in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1019395 Title: At random times NM applet menu stops responding Status in “network-manager-applet” package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Bug description: At random times, Network Manager's whole menu stops working. Attempting to unmount, kill nautilus or force-unplug the iPod had no effect, so I ran ps aux | grep gvfs | awk '{print $2;}' | xargs -n1 sudo kill -9 ...which killed the iPod mount and caused Rhythmbox's hanging on blank alert box behaviour to resolve itself. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1044189] Re: Problem with wide tables in Libreoffice writer files
Charlie Norrie, thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. Please execute the following command, as it will automatically gather debugging information, in a terminal: apport-collect 1044189 When reporting bugs in the future please use apport by using 'ubuntu-bug' and the name of the package affected. You can learn more about this functionality at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/ReportingBugs. As well, could you please attach the file that demonstrates the problem, with exact, click by click instructions on how to reproduce the problem? ** Description changed: - I am trying to remember how this problem arose. It was as I was pasting - a very wide table into a A4 sheet and I cannit for the life of me - remember where I got the wide table from. + It was as I was pasting a very wide table into a A4 sheet and I cannit + for the life of me remember where I got the wide table from. When I do it the table patses cleanly to the page margin and the rest of it appears in light and darker browns. The cut off may be in the middle of a column. Once the table is corrupted like this is is essentailly unrecoverable and attampts to split it into parts and work on each part separetely doesn't work. - - I am sorry I must have reported this a little peeved, and I don't mean - to sound so. My versions is Version 3.6.0.2 (Build ID: 360m1(Build:102)) from a free Ubuntu install on 20 August 2012. There are no extensions. It is a big table and U hoped that even if it were too big for the page size, I'd be able to manipluate it manually and get it into a usable form. (i.e. a manual split). As it is I'm having to reconstruct the table from notes. The Ubuntu is the latest download of 12.10 and was fresh installed 30 August 2012. - I think it would be the same problem in 12.04, as it is a libtreoffice - table thingy. - - I appreciate the work you all do for Ubuntu and Libreoffice, and it's - nice to have a system that is so well thought out that you are talking - to the people who turn the code, and it actually makes I thing for a - better system. I tend to write longwindedly, sorry, and it's much nicer - than the sooulless packages where you file a bug report and essentially - nothing ever happens. - by the way I do a sudo apt-get update and a sudo apt-get upgrade -f at least once a day, so my code is always up to date. - - If I can be of any further assisstance please contact me, and again - apologies for cobbiness. It's just unlike old MS Word, you never expect - Libreoffice to break. ** Changed in: libreoffice (Ubuntu) Status: New = Incomplete -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to libreoffice in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1044189 Title: Problem with wide tables in Libreoffice writer files Status in “libreoffice” package in Ubuntu: Incomplete Bug description: It was as I was pasting a very wide table into a A4 sheet and I cannit for the life of me remember where I got the wide table from.
