[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1624705] Re: X fonts disappear after suspend/resume cycle
Eugene Shkel, in order to allow additional upstream developers to examine the issue, at your earliest convenience, could you please test the latest upstream kernel available from http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/?C=N;O=D ? Please keep in mind the following: 1) The one to test is at the very top line at the top of the page (not the daily folder). 2) The release names are irrelevant. 3) The folder time stamps aren't indicative of when the kernel actually was released upstream. 4) Install instructions are available at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Kernel/MainlineBuilds . If testing on your main install would be inconvenient, one may: 1) Install Ubuntu to a different partition and then test this there. 2) Backup, or clone the primary install. If the latest kernel did not allow you to test to the issue (ex. you couldn't boot into the OS) please make a comment in your report about this, and continue to test the next most recent kernel version until you can test to the issue. Once you've tested the upstream kernel, please comment on which kernel version specifically you tested. If this issue is fixed in the mainline kernel, please add the following tags by clicking on the yellow circle with a black pencil icon, next to the word Tags, located at the bottom of the report description: kernel-fixed-upstream kernel-fixed-upstream-X.Y-rcZ Where X, and Y are the first two numbers of the kernel version, and Z is the release candidate number if it exists. If the mainline kernel does not fix the issue, please add the following tags: kernel-bug-exists-upstream kernel-bug-exists-upstream-X.Y-rcZ Please note, an error to install the kernel does not fit the criteria of kernel-bug-exists-upstream. Also, you don't need to apport-collect further unless specifically requested to do so. It is most helpful that after testing of the latest upstream kernel is complete, you mark this report Status Confirmed. Lastly, to keep this issue relevant to upstream, please continue to test the latest mainline kernel as it becomes available. Thank you for your help. ** Tags removed: bios-outdated-a16 ** Tags added: latest-bios-a16 ** Changed in: xorg (Ubuntu) Importance: Low => Medium -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to xorg in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1624705 Title: X fonts disappear after suspend/resume cycle Status in xorg package in Ubuntu: Incomplete Bug description: Some text in system menus disappeared after laptop lid closed and opened (laptop resumed from suspend). [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1555567] Re: License information from the store not being used
I had an attempt at solving this in snapd with the attached patch. This passes through the "license" field from the store [1] and can make a search in gnome-software show this license field. However, this field doesn't exist for installed snaps. This is because the snap metadata doesn't contain this field and instead contains differently defined license fields [2] (it refers to a license file, not a string). This needs some design input to progress. It seems to me that one of the following needs to occur: - The license file that is referred in the snap YAML would have to be copied into the store database. This file could then be accessed either from the store or from a locally installed snap. This has the downsides that common license (e.g. GPL) are hard to match (requires checking the whole license file) and extra data would need to be downloaded (as opposed to a short string). - The snap YAML would gain the license field as used in the store. The existing license file could remain for non-common / complex licenses. The downside of this is that existing snaps might have a license set in the store but not in the .snap file (searching in gnome-software would show a license but after install it would not). [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1590988] Re: Onboard keyboard doesn't scale correctly at lock screen
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 1572331 *** https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1572331 Status changed to 'Confirmed' because the bug affects multiple users. ** Changed in: onboard (Ubuntu) Status: New => Confirmed -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to onboard in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1590988 Title: Onboard keyboard doesn't scale correctly at lock screen Status in onboard package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Bug description: When setting "Scale for menu and title bars" to (2) in screen / display settings && setting Onboard on screen keyboard to "Show when unlocking the screen" (tick) in Onboard general preferences, the on screen keyboard is tiny and very difficult to use on the lock screen, but fine (full size) whilst logged in. I'm guessing it doesn't obey the scaling setting while on the lock screen. I have a high DPI screen and have to use "Scale for menu and title bars" set to (2) in display / screen settings for my HP Spectre x360 (4109NA) to be usable. It has a touchscreen + 360 degree hinge and I have a little script on a launcher button to xinput float and reattach the keyboard/touchpad so I can use it in tablet mode. If the device locks while my keyboard/touchpad is disconnected, it's a nuisance to log back in with a USB keyboard (or log in as a guest which I've learned auto reattaches the keyboard / touchpad somehow). The weird thing is I'm sure I've seen the on screen keyboard display properly on the lock screen at some point so I don't know why it's misbehaving now. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1614593] Re: gimp freezes at end of cage-base transform
So... Discovering that Debian and/or Ubuntu decided to make their GIMP 2.8 packages depend on gegl-0.3 instead of gegl-0.2 came as a surprise to some of the GIMP developers. We prefer not to raise library dependencies in the stable branch, and have certainly not planned for changes in GIMP code to accommodate for this in the stable branch - as you can see, the patch author for the fix in the GIMP master branch isn't sure if the patch can be backported to be compatible with both gegl-0.2 and gegl-0.3: https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=770848 This makes this hard to fix from our side for distros that choose to deviate from the upstream dependencies. Can I assume that Ubuntu tries to fix this for their package, based on the patch(es) proposed in this bug report? ** Bug watch added: GNOME Bug Tracker #770848 https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=770848 -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to gimp in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1614593 Title: gimp freezes at end of cage-base transform Status in The Gimp: Unknown Status in gimp package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Bug description: Hello. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1585084] Re: Volume notification keeps popping up constantly(the notifyosd bubble on top-right corner)
My log. Even during the installation I had constant volume notification bubble appearing on the top-right corner of my screen, it would come and go about twice every minute. I just thought it was due to installing hardware drivers or something but the problem persisted even when I booted into the freshly installed system. I did some searching and two users reported the exact problem. And one more suggested this happens because constant disconnect and reconnect of the sound card which makes sense as the sound settings flashes briefly during every popup. Someone on IRC suggested to kill pulseaudio and thus restart it, that does not fix the issue. I also tried the Live environment thinking it might be due to some old config files in home partition (which was preserved during upgrade), but this problem happens in the live environment as well, which makes sense because it was present during installation as well. I am affected by this bug with a current Xubuntu 16.04 LTS. My ~/.cache is a symlink to a different SSD/partition if this matters. Since ~/.cache/deja-dup filled up my root parition (before symlinking it), I had to manually delete ~/.cache/deja-dup and the files in the backup destination. Maybe this had some effect as well. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to duplicity in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1217959 Title: 'metadata' file not found when creating backup ("Could not restore ‘/home/user /.cache/deja-dup/metadata’: File not found in backup" Status in Déjà Dup: Confirmed Status in duplicity package in Ubuntu: Incomplete Bug description: Linux release: Ubuntu 13.04 64bit Kernel: 3.8.0-29-generic Python: 2.7.4 Deja Dup: 26.0 Duplicity: 0.6.21 Hi. I've tried to do my monthly or so backup recently, but Deja Dup crashed after trying to backup a very large file (VM disk with Windows 7, 50GB or so). I tried to do another one, this time excluding all my large VM's. However, now when trying to do a backup I'm getting the following error a few seconds after inputting my encryption password: Could not restore ‘/home/tom/.cache/deja-dup/metadata’: File not found in backup I've tried reinstalling both deja-dup and duplicity, purging duplicity, deleting deja-dup and duplicity from /home/tom/.cache, deleting the backup files on the external drive, deleting it's config as described here http://askubuntu.com/questions/53980/how-to-delete- all-the-settings-for-deja-dup. I know (well, I have some evidence supporting this) that the drive itself isn't faulty as I managed to backup my old laptop to the drive using duplicity and it worked fine (Fedora 19, deja dup 26.0 I think). [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1585084] Re: Volume notification keeps popping up constantly(the notifyosd bubble on top-right corner)
First time posting on launchpad. Let me know if I missed something. :) I am having this issue as well. Volume slider notification keeps popping up. pulseaudio log makes it seem like the same jack plugged/unplugged event. Did anyone come up with a good workaround until this is resolved? A way to mute the pulseaudio notifications? Followed log guide here. https://wiki.ubuntu.com/PulseAudio/Log ** Attachment added: "pulseaudio verbose log" https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/pulseaudio/+bug/1585084/+attachment/4743092/+files/pulseverbose.log -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to pulseaudio in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1585084 Title: Volume notification keeps popping up constantly(the notifyosd bubble on top-right corner) Status in pulseaudio package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Bug description: I upgraded to Ubuntu 16.04 yesterday, I did a clean install while preserving the home directory which is mounted in a separate partition. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 852999] Re: Simple Scan crashes after aborting one scan and starting another
Alberto Salvia Novella, I think the title of the this report is not reflective of the original problem. From what I see, Simple Scan doesn't actually crash, but has a standard communication issue with the scanner. Hence, Simple Scan doesn't crash, or there would be a file in /var/crash. I'll adjust the title to reflect what is actually being experienced. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to simple-scan in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/852999 Title: Simple Scan notes "Failed to scan" after aborting one scan and starting another Status in Simple Scan: Confirmed Status in simple-scan package in Ubuntu: Triaged Bug description: I have an AIO Epson Stylus Office tx300f mutifunctional printer who has scanning function. Question: for words "parallel / meridian" what goes with "longitude"? The question / answer are right, but the "Incorrect answer" message is wrong. I got it wrong (because I had never come across 'parallel' in reference to geodesy!) and the advice says: "Parallel and longitude traverse from east to west while meridian and latitude traverse from north to south". A meridian is a line of constant longitude passing between the poles and through a given place on the earth's surface. That is, meridians traverse from east to west like the lines of longitude. For example, the Greenwich meridian is zero degrees longitude. Google tells me a geodetic parallel is equivalent to the lines of latitude and so they go from east to west and traverse from north to south. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1620038] Re: Printing job is "completed" but nothing gets printed
** Description changed: OS: Xubuntu 16.04.1 Printer Device: Brother DCP1610W My printer is not working on my desktop. I've installed both drivers under "printer" in the following link: http://support.brother.com/g/b/downloadlist.aspx?c=as_ot=en=dcp1610w_eu_as=128 The scanner works perfectly fine. I should mention that I've it working on my laptop with exactly the same drivers and OS. After clicking on "Print", the job status is "completed" but nothing gets printed. I can't print test pages. + + Any idea what might be happening and I should I go about fixing this? [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1624705] Re: X fonts disappear after suspend/resume cycle
Hi, honestly I don't remember issues like this. If it was happens once - I can ignore it. But last week it became annoying(I have to reboot laptop or X) - so I noticed and report it. I didn't upgrade to 16.04, I upgraded to 16.04.1 in August. But didn't noticed such issue until few last days. Don't remember any manual system modifications after upgrading (issues with WiFi module) Additional issue - I'm using dock station and external monitor, often when I close lid the system suspended and resumed(this issue present from 12.04). The font issue was noticed in both cases (on normal behavior and on short suspend\resume cycle). P.S. I updated BIOS. Should I update info somehow? -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to xorg in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1624705 Title: X fonts disappear after suspend/resume cycle Status in xorg package in Ubuntu: Incomplete Bug description: Some text in system menus disappeared after laptop lid closed and opened (laptop resumed from suspend). [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1622386] Re: LO Calc freeze while viewing spreadsheet
I assume, from your questions, that you're having trouble getting this bug to reproduce! Here's another video: https://youtu.be/o-Tu1bH_pdk Procedure is: 1. Open the file with no other files open (bug happens whether you launch calc and use file->open or double-click the file on the desktop) 2. Click cell A2 3. Scroll to the bottom right of the data 4. Hold 'shift' to select a range, and click cell AU356 5. Choose the 'Data' menu and click 'Autofilter' 6. Deselect the large range and scroll up to row 2, where the filters have been created. 7. In column A expand the filter, uncheck the 'all' box, and check the 'UT61D' box (I have seen the crash with a variety of different filters applied - but I figure you want a single example. 8. Alt+Tab to a web browser and wait about 9-10 minutes. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to libreoffice in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1622386 Title: LO Calc freeze while viewing spreadsheet Status in libreoffice package in Ubuntu: Incomplete Bug description: I was viewing the xls file from https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/libreoffice/+bug/1622386/+attachment/4739554/+files/Multimeters%20April%202016%20Comments%20Autosized.xls in LibreOffice Calc when it froze and the window greyed out. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1616283] Re: gnome-settings-daemon doesn't work properly in Ubuntu under LightDM
All that functionality is now in Mutter, so it is a huge monolith that is not expected to work separately. gnome-fallback-media-keys-helper from Zorin OS ppa work for keyboard, didn't found good replacement for the rest of stuff. ** Changed in: gnome-settings-daemon (Ubuntu) Status: Confirmed => Invalid -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to gnome-settings-daemon in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1616283 Title: gnome-settings-daemon doesn't work properly in Ubuntu under LightDM Status in gnome-settings-daemon package in Ubuntu: Invalid Bug description: When using gnome-settings-daemon instead of unity-settings-daemon (for instance, in custom session) it doesn't work properly, namely, at least following things are broken: * hotkeys (including multimedia keys) * displays management (gnome-control-center says no displays found) * laptop blacklight management (when changing brightness level in gnome-control-center it doesn't have any effect) Those are the first things I've noticed.
