I am aware of audio issues with espeak and speech-dispatcher in 13.10, and its a combination of speech-dispatcher's pulseaudi ocode and pulseaudio itself. Speech-dispatcher is probably not using pulse as well as it could be, at the same time, pulse has had changes made that somtimes cause audio issues. I've tried following this up with upstream, and some work has been done to try and look into this, but it seems we're not there yet. I need to try git master of pulse myself to see if things are resolved. Luke" Don't surprise the modified package components, I using now Speech-dispatcher latest git master version. Thank you for reporting this bug to Ubuntu. Ubuntu 12.04 (precise) reached end-of-life on April 28, 2017. See this document for currently supported Ubuntu releases: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Releases We appreciate that this bug may be old and you might not be interested in discussing it any more. But if you are then please upgrade to the latest Ubuntu version and re-test. ** Changed in: pulseaudio (Ubuntu) Status: New => Incomplete -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to pulseaudio in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1263231 Title: 64-bit Ubuntu 12.04 may hang at user login screen Status in pulseaudio package in Ubuntu: Incomplete Bug description: Sometimes 64-bit Ubuntu 12.04 may hang at user login screen. This may happen on 32-bit version as well, but I can not confirm this. The hang may last up to 45 seconds and after that everything works normally: user desktop picture is shown, volume indicator seems to be working and it is possible to type the password and log in. But, this is not the end of the story. Now, volume indicator looks like the sounds are muted, but it is still possible to hear everything normally. At this state, some programs may hang. Firefox is one example. Details exactly as stated here: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/firefox/+bug/879240 I am sure it has nothing to do with low resources. My computer specs are: Intel Core2 Duo E8400 @ 3.00GHz with 4GB RAM and GeForce GTX 560. I must add that my sound card is Creative Sound Blaster X-Fi Platinum Fatal1ty Champion. Other example of an other program hang is OpenArena. It may hang even up to 30 minutes before it is playable. On contrary, this never happens on my laptop (32-bit Ubuntu 12.04, Intel Core2 Duo @ 2.00GHz with 4GB RAM and ATi Mobility Radeon HD 3400 with integrated sound chip.) Reboot fixes this issue randomly. One day the computer may boot perfectly, other day it hangs. Reboot may fix it or I have to reboot again. Usually everything works normally at least on 3rd reboot or so. This problem is related to pulseaudio. If Ubuntu hangs at startup, volume icon at the top bar is showing that audio is off (even though it's on), after logging in of course. Then, when I launch Firefox and right-click, the browser hangs. When I launch "System monitoring" -app, I see that process pulseaudio % CPU = 0 ID 3131 1,4 MiB has priority "very high". Firefox window remains blackened for about 20 seconds and reverts back after that. Then this pulseaudio process will have 2,4 MiB of memory usage and it remains "very high" on priority. If I let Firefox hang again, I can kill pulseaudio process and Firefox will work normally again. But if I right-click again, pulseaudio will launch on background and hang the browser again. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1685439] Re: Firefox 53 conflicts with window manager theme
The issue is still present with firefox:amd64 53.0.2+build1-0ubuntu0.14.04.2 -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to firefox in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1685439 Title: Firefox 53 conflicts with window manager theme Status in firefox package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Bug description: Firefox overrides the default window manager font color in some of its pop up dialog and buttons (included buttons rendered in webpages) This leads to unreadable buttons text. See the top of the attached Screenshot1.png for an example: The "Quit" "Save" "Save and Quit" text is white (should be black). Hovering over the "Do no ask next time" also turns that text white. Problem appeared after update of firefox:amd64 (from 52.0.2+build1-0ubuntu0.14.04.1 to 53.0+build6-0ubuntu0.14.04.1). Using the default Firefox theme or the other 2 new "compact" provided themes produces the same result. On Xubuntu 14.04 with XFCE 4.10 In the snapshot above the XFCE theme is the standard "Adwaita" but the problem can be reproduced with other themes thought it is not present for example with the similar XFCE theme "Orion". Changing the XFCE theme back and forth when firefox is open sometimes "fixes" the issue until Firefox is restarted. These values were used to prioritize connections, so that for example, when connected to both wired and wireless at the same time, wired can be used in priority over wireless without incurring packet loss. Currently, when connected to both wired and wireless are connected to the same subnet, the user may notice connectivity issues since packets are sent in a round-robin fashion over all default routes on the same subnet with the same metric. [Test Case] 1- Connect to a wireless network. 2- Connect to the same network over Ethernet both connections should come up on the same subnet. 3- Make sure there is no packet loss, and that there are specific metric values for each default route, as displayed by 'ip route'. [Regression Potential] Since handling default routes properly involves correcting the behavior for all device types, VPN behavior may change to pick up the default routes in all cases, over a wired connection. It's also possible that a connection pick up the default route when it is not meant to. --- With Vivid, having two connections to the same network subnet is unstable due to missing metrics for local networks. Example: Being connected to 192.168.1.0/24 via both wired and wireless will cause connectivity issues as sent packets hop between the two interfaces. It used to be that this wasn't an issue. I would go between work and home and plug in and my machine would automatically connect to wireless and it would use the lower metric ethernet interface for all communications, while the wlan interface would remain connected but unused. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1152137] Re: Pulseaudio won't start when home directory not owned by user
Thanks Nick. Happy to keep this bug open. Please just let us know specifically what current Ubuntu version(s) it is still a problem on. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to pulseaudio in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1152137 Title: Pulseaudio won't start when home directory not owned by user Status in pulseaudio package in Ubuntu: Incomplete Bug description: I have an NFS mounted home directory on a dedicated fileserver which is shared with Windows PCs via SMB. The home directory is not owned by me. ACLs are set on it to allow me full control of the contents but prevent me from changing its permissions. This means any files or directories created in the home directory are owned by me even though the top level is not. Pulseaudio checks the home directory is owned by the user at startup and exits if it isn't. This stops it running on my system. I have recompiled pulseaudio without this check and it works fine. Please either remove or modify the following startup check: pulseaudio-1.1/src/pulsecore/src/pulsecore/core-util.c line 1415: if (st.st_uid != getuid()) { pa_log_error("Home directory %s not ours.", h); errno = EACCES; goto finish; } A better check would be for pulseaudio to try and create the files/folders it needs and fail if it cannot. I am using Ubuntu 12.04 and pulseaudio 1:1.1-0ubuntu15.2. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1690512] Re: shutdown/restart/suspend freezes laptop on intel graphics
Hey Henrique, Thanks for your reply! I thought kernel 4.10 supported kaby lake CPU's? As I mentioned in the post, I tried it and it gave even worse results (couldn't get past login screen) -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to xorg in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1690512 Title: shutdown/restart/suspend freezes laptop on intel graphics Status in intel-microcode package in Ubuntu: New Status in linux package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Status in xorg package in Ubuntu: New Bug description: I'm not sure where to report this under, so please bear with me. Reporting this bug using ubuntu-bug just crashes my system if im using intel graphics, I had to switch to nvidia graphics just to file this bug report so the automatically attached log files may not be a good representation of the problem. I've attached the syslog and kern.log files below. PROBLEM: When using intel graphics: Whenever I close the laptop lid or restart / shutdown using GUI or terminal commands, it goes into a black screen with a single "_" at the top left corner, and hangs. Only long-pressing (hard reset) the power button would shut down the computer. However, when I use sudo prime-select nvidia to switch over to nvidia, everything works fine.log I have tried many things, and all do not work. I have attached the logs for /var/log/syslog and /var/log/kern.log below. Attempts so far: 1)Tried installing new intel drivers from Updated kernel to 4.8 now missing firmware warnings --> Did not work. Issue persists 2) Tried upgrading kernel from 4.8 to 4.10.15 --> Did not work. Problem got worse. Instead of the normal login screen, it gives a terminal login screen and hangs. 3) Tried the fix to nvidia-prime https://askubuntu.com/a/884506/547039, but both the poweron.sh and poweroff.sh script hangs my laptop instead. 4) Tried sudo swapoff -a && systemctl poweroff as a workaround, no avail. 5) Tried changing GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet splash" to GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet splash acpi=force" Does not work either. Additional note: 'sudo lshw -C display' on intel graphics outputs PCI(sysfs) then laptop freezes. LOG FILES: /var/log/syslog https://codeshare.io/5XOPwM /var/log/kern.log https://codeshare.io/aJp6nq specs: Intel 7700HQ, NVIDIA 1060GTX, kernel 4.8, Ubuntu 16.04 Would really appreciate your help. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1682233] Re: 10de:1c8c [MSI] Module nouveau seems to MISS GeForce GTX 1050 Ti Mobile
The issue is still exactly the same with Linux kernel 4.12.0-041200rc1 from http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline : * XORG does NOT load its 'nouveau' module. * Even when I activate my '20-module-nouveau.conf' file to force XORG to load its 'nouveau' module, this 'nouveau' module does NOT report any graphics hardware or outputs, and XORG unloads it. - Are you sure that Linux kernel 4.12 really takes 'Nvidia GeForce GTX 1050 Ti Mobile' into account ? - Would it be useful to install a more recent version of the 'xserver- xorg-video-nouveau' package ? ** Attachment added: "Xorg.0.log with kernel 4.12rc1 and nouveau forcibly loaded" https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-video-nouveau/+bug/1682233/+attachment/4876618/+files/Xorg-with-kernel-4.12rc1-and-nouveau.0.log -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-nouveau in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1682233 Title: 10de:1c8c [MSI] Module nouveau seems to MISS GeForce GTX 1050 Ti Mobile Status in xserver-xorg-video-nouveau package in Ubuntu: New Bug description: I have a laptop computer with hybrid graphics : 'Intel Onboard IGD' and 'Nvidia GeForce GTX 1050 Ti Mobile'. At the beginning, the 'nouveau' module of the Linux kernel seems to be correctly loaded : $ lsmod | grep '^nouveau' nouveau 1601536 0 But XORG does NOT load its 'nouveau' module. So, I force it with following file : $ cat /usr/share/X11/xorg.conf.d/20-module-nouveau.conf Section "Module" Load "nouveau" EndSection In the attached 'Xorg-with-nouveau.0.log' file, you can see : - Lines 58-59 :XORG correctly finds both Intel and Nvidia graphics hardware. - Lines 61-66 :XORG loads its 'nouveau' module. - Lines 94-108 : The list of the Nvidia chipsets known by the 'nouveau' module does NOT contain 'GTX 1050'. If yes, is it possible to activate the 'kernel arbiter' ? - Lines 124-226 : The 'modesetting' module of XORG (perhaps with the help of the 'glamoregl' submodule) correctly reports the 4 available graphics outputs, in particular 'eDP-1' connected to the onboard monitor. - Lines 233-234 : XORG unloads its 'nouveau' module, which has NOT reported any graphics hardware or outputs If necessary, I am able to test : - the latest version of the 'xserver-xorg-video-nouveau' package from a PPA - the latest upstream kernel from http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline Finally, I wonder where this issue has to be solved : - inside configuration files in '/usr/share/X11/xorg.conf.d', - inside the 'xserver-xorg-video-nouveau' package, - inside the 'nouveau' module of the Linux kernel, - inside the 'kernel arbiter'. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1690671] [NEW] Pointer clicks and hovering fail to have effect at the very left and top borders of screen
Public bug reported: This affects any desktop environment made with gtk+3, such as MATE, Pantheon, parts of Xfce, Budgie and probably others. GNOME is not affected. Any DE still using gtk2 works fine. I tested 3 different computers with Intel Graphics and they were all displaying the same glitch. THE ISSUE: The pointer (happens with mouse, but it's worse with touchpad) fails to click or highlight any object at the very last pixel of the left and top borders of the screen. If there is a menu at the top, for instance, the highlighting that should appear on top of it starts to flicker on and off. If the icon highlights, I can click. If it doesn't, clicking such menu icon doesn't have any effect. It happens at the last pixel of the screen. Moving the pointer just one pixel away from the border restores the desired effect. For the past couple days, chrome on Ubuntu 16.04 takes a REALLY long time (maybe 2 minutes) to start. Once chrome is started, I am not able to sync and any secure password features are broken. I found out this is due to gnome-keyring not being unlocked at login. There's also no way to unlock the "login" portion of the keyring from the running daemon by default. I have to kill the gnome-keyring process and start without "--login" as a parameter. Then the "login" section shows up which I'm able to unlock. From there chrome starts up instantly but asks the following: Enter password to unlock your login keyring The login keyring did not get unlocked when you logged into your computer After that, all of it's sync and secure features are functional. Starting google-chrome-stable from a command line at boot without running the above workaround shows the following error messages: Gkr-Message: secret service operation failed: Did not receive a reply. Possible causes include: the remote application did not send a reply, the message bus security policy blocked the reply, the reply timeout expired, or the network connection was broken. Please ensure your BIOS/UEFI is up-to-date, latest known-to-be-available microcode is revision 0x58, so it is not impossible that there are available fixes through a vendor BIOS/UEFI update. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to xorg in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1690512 Title: shutdown/restart/suspend freezes laptop on intel graphics Status in intel-microcode package in Ubuntu: New Status in linux package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Status in xorg package in Ubuntu: New Bug description: I'm not sure where to report this under, so please bear with me. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 399466] Re: "Creating image checksum" message not informative anough
This still happens on Ubuntu 16.04. The burning itself is fast, takes a couple minutes, but the image checksum takes about 20 minutes. It is not clear what this does, why it happens and why it's so slow. I canceled it when it was about 70% done and it said "Success 18.4 EB" (I only wrote a 3.3 GB ISO). This bug should be easily reproducible with any ISO. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to brasero in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/399466 Title: "Creating image checksum" message not informative anough Status in brasero package in Ubuntu: Invalid Bug description: Binary package hint: brasero brasero 2.26.1-0ubuntu1 Ubuntu 9.04 I burned an ISO file to a DVD+RW. After burning there was a step labeled "Creating image checksum". This is not very clear (unless you are an experienced brasero user). As I understand, it is reading back the disc content to verify the burn was without errors. The message should be changed to be more clear. Users care "what" is done (verification), not "how" it is done (by computing and comparing a checksum - I guess). [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1690512] Re: shutdown/restart/suspend freezes laptop on intel graphics
** Also affects: linux (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to xorg in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1690512 Title: shutdown/restart/suspend freezes laptop on intel graphics Status in intel-microcode package in Ubuntu: New Status in linux package in Ubuntu: New Status in xorg package in Ubuntu: New Bug description: I'm not sure where to report this under, so please bear with me. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1672424] Re: Cannot install Debian files outside of the repositories
Hello, I still cannot install .deb packages in Software under Ubuntu 17.04, even after enabling zesty-proposed and updating and restarting my computer this morning. I also tried installing gconf2 as suggested by other posts in this topic. I tested trying to install the .deb package opera-stable (opera-stable_44.0.2510.1449_amd64.deb downloaded from their site). The install button reacts to me clicking it but nothing else happens, no longer how long I wait (waited at least 15 minutes). I also tried the instructions in post #8 saying to invoke gnome-software from the command line using an absolute path for the file: gnome- software --local-filename=/home/sam/Downloads/opera- stable_44.0.2510.1449_amd64.deb. Please advise me as to what else I should try. Also, this is on a fresh install of Ubuntu; the only thing I did before trying to install this package is configure my system settings the way I wanted everything. ** Also affects: intel-microcode (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to xorg in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1690512 Title: shutdown/restart/suspend freezes laptop on intel graphics Status in intel-microcode package in Ubuntu: New Status in xorg package in Ubuntu: New Bug description: I'm not sure where to report this under, so please bear with me.
