The UI will just show a progressbar but nothing more. We should probably add some text in the progress waiting for task to finish ideally from a existing string or via dgettext from aptdaemon https://wiki.ubuntu.com/SoftwareCenter#software-item-screen-state- installed: If the item is being installed or removed, or is queued for installation or removal (but not if its add-ons are being changed), the status text for the installation at the leading end, and a progress bar at the trailing end. https://wiki.ubuntu.com/SoftwareCenter#installing: If the item is queued waiting for another package manager to close, the status text for the item should be “Waiting for {Application Name} to exit”. If the item is queued waiting for any other activity to complete, the status text for the item should be “Waiting”. It may save time to fix bug 954652 at the same time as this bug. The left padding, inside every tile, should be such that the left edge of the icon inside the first column of tiles lines up with the left edge of the heading for the tiled area, e.g. What's New. And this padding should be identical for the category list. (In the attached screenshot, the red lines should be the same distance from the edge of their areas.) 2. The top edge of the first category in the category list, should line up with the top edge of the heading text in the What's New area. (In the screenshot, the pink lines should be continuous.) 3. The left edge of the category list should line up with the left edge of the Back button. (The orange lines should be continuous.) Similarly, the right edge of the What's New area should line up with the right edge of the search field. (The black lines in the screenshot are from bug 961102.) On the home screen, scroll down to Recommended For You. 2. Opt in to recommendations, if you haven't already. 3. Note the recommendations and the order in which they appear. 4. Click More. 5. Note the first recommendations and the order in which they appear. What you see: On the standalone Recommended For You screen, the first recommendations are different and in a different order. What you should see: Both on the home screen and the standalone screen, the first 12 recommendations are the same and in the same order. This seems to be because on the standalone screen, the recommendations are sorted By Top Rated like a category or subcategory would be, with options to sort By Name and By Newest First. But it isn't useful to sort recommendations by anything other than the strength of the recommendation, for exactly the same reason that it isn't useful to sort the Top Rated screen by anything other than rating: any other ordering would be dependent on how many applications were shown, which is an arbitrary number. So the Recommended For You screen should not have a sort menu, like Top Rated does not, and recommendations should be sorted by strength. However, once the package finished uninstalling, I clicked on the KDE Standard Desktop package, which still had the 'Remove' button, as if it were still installed. I clicked on the button, which showed a popup saying the package was not installed, and didn't need to be removed. Then the software center crashed. ** Tags removed: ca-escalated -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to software-center in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/920741 Title: UnicodeDecodeError in add_repo_add_key_and_install_app when a appname has special chars in it Status in “software-center” package in Ubuntu: Fix Released Status in “software-center” source package in Oneiric: Fix Committed Status in “software-center” source package in Precise: Fix Released Bug description: [TEST CASE] Unfortunately, there is currently not a convenient way to test this error condition as it specifically requires an application in the for-purchase archive to contain a unicode character in its name. Currently, no such application is available. However, a unit test that reproduces the error and verifies the fix directly is included in the source code for this version of Software Center (see branch details below), and this has been run at build time. It is still very useful to test for regressions as follows: 1. Install and launch the version of software-center in precise-proposed. 2. Click the down arrow next for All Software and select the For Purchase entry. 3. Navigate in the list and make sure that all of the titles are displayed correctly. View the details view for various items and verify the titles there as well. [REGRESSION POTENTIAL] This is a fix that simply corrects a unicode decode error in a debug log statement, so the risk of regression is negligible. --- The esteemed davmor2 discovered a new UnicodeDecodeError while testing a new app for the For Purchase section. This application appears to be the first one we've deployed For Purchase that uses a unicode character in its title, which explains why we have not seen this particular one before. The title of the associated application is Linux Shell 01 - Manual Práctico del Shell. Further details from davmor2: Bug Description: A recent magazine came through with a unicode character in the title of the application and USC/SCA combo was unable to handle it. Version: n/a OS: 64bit Oneiric USC Version: 5.0.4 Steps To Reproduce: 1. Goto myapps 2. Create an app with a unicode title 3. Myapps will publish this 4. USC will fail to download/install this Expected Results: I expect to be able to create an app and publish it. That or we need to document that only non unicode characters may be applied to a title. Before I had mysql-workbench-gpl package installed (I don't know whether I installed it through ubuntu software center or from mysql web page). I opended MySql workbench and closed it 15 minutes later without using it. When I closed it it created a crush report and notified me that this is not a supported ubuntu package so the report won't be sent (this is why I'm describing this part - I don't know if this realy wasn't an ubuntu package in 12.04 or if this is another bug). I had ubuntu software center opened and listed all the software that contains word workbench. I couldn't install MySQL workbench package from ubuntu software center (error message popped up during instalation) so I deleted the previous package with: sudo apt-get remove mysql-workbench-gpl I started installing MySQL Workbench and noticed that mysql-workbench-gpl is listed below so I clicked Remove button (this was already after I deleted the package with the command above). At this point this crash report popped up. All this time I haven't closed the ubuntu software center. After all of this the package mysql-workbench-gpl is still present in ubuntu software center under tehnical items but there is no install or remove button present. This is an active bug already, bug 1043011, and I will mark this one as a duplicate of that one. Please monitor bug 1043011 for the status of a fix for this, and to add any additional info or comments that you may have. In the meantime until we get this bug fixed, and if you like, you could instead use the PayPal option for payment. Using that option you can pay with your credit card and you will bypass this issue. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1040454] Re: copy link address does not use X11 clipboard
** Changed in: software-center (Ubuntu) Status: New = Confirmed ** Changed in: software-center (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided = Low -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to software-center in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1040454 Title: copy link address does not use X11 clipboard Status in “software-center” package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Bug description: If I view a package in USC which has a link, myDesktopCalendar for example, I can right-click the link and select copy link address. This allows me to copy a web or email address for contacting the vendor. However, I cannot then paste it into most X11 programs. The normal mechanism is to use a X11 atom which can then be sent to any other program, usually with a middle-click. It's not exactly a clipboard as such, since it doesn't store a copy of the data... but it is the traditional mechanism used in X11 programs. In USC, the GTK clipboard seems to be used instead, exclusively, which means only programs written in specific toolkits can be pasted into. Most GTK programs I've seen support both the X11 method and the GTK method, but USC lacks the X11 support. I have some sample pygtk code for a working example, if it helps, but I wrote it in ~2000 or so and the API may have changed since then. I'm using USC 5.2.5 in Precise amd64. Hi Scott, and thank you for your report. I have looked at the screenshots that you've attached, and they do not actually match Ubuntu Software Center in Quantal at all.
