[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1797782] Re: evince immediately seg faults

2018-11-09 Thread angus73
I would point out that the reporter states (in the bug description)
"Launching evince from the command line without specifying a file also
crashes".

This means that the problem is not related to any pdf file, so asking
for an upload is perfectly unuseful. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

As I experience the same bug (evince crash with segfault, even if I
don't open any file), I can provide more information if something could
help to solve it.

Invoking evince from the command line suddenly crashes, but for example

evince --version
evince --help

both work.

Also please tell me if I better open a new bug.

Running evince 3.28.4 on Ubuntu 18.04

  evince immediately seg faults

  Incomplete

Bug description:

  Description: Ubuntu 18.04.1 LTS

  100 /var/lib/dpkg/status

Expected Behavior: evince opens and displays PDF document.

What Happened: When launching evince, it crashes immediately with a
segmentation fault. This happens every time. I have tried opening
multiple PDF documents both from the command line and file browser.
Launching evince from the command line without specifying a file also
crashes. The PDF documents open fine in xpdf.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 537703] Re: Compiz intercepts alert sound from gnome-terminal

2015-09-18 Thread angus73
I agree with comment #29. So, should we open a new bug against compiz
0.9.12.1 and Ubuntu 15.04 (my current setup, affected by this bug)?

Title:
Compiz intercepts alert sound from gnome-terminal

Status in Compiz:
  Won't Fix
Status in compiz package in Ubuntu:
  Won't Fix

Bug description:
  Binary package hint: compiz

This is with up-to-date Lucid installed afresh from alpha 3.

When compiz is active, the Gnome alert sound for gnome-terminal is
intercepted and never played. I'm not sure other applications suffer
from this, but I would find it strange it this were specific to gnome-
  terminal.

  Detailed steps to reproduce:
  - Check that the alert sound is enabled and audible:
- Click on the volume indicator in the panel and choose "Sound
preferences..."
- Go to the "Sound effects" tab
- Set the alert volume slider to a nonzero value
- Make sure the master volume is also at a nonzero value
- Check sound can be heard by clicking on one of the unselected alert
sounds in the list
- Close "Sound preferences" window
  - Press Alt-F2, enter "gnome-terminal" and press enter
  - Make sure the "Terminal bell" is enabled:
- Right-click on the terminal background, and select "Profiles" > "Profile
preferences"
- Make sure "Terminal bell" is checked
- Close "Profile preferences" window
  - With compiz enabled, focus the terminal and hit backspace. No sound is
played
  - Press Alt-F2, enter "metacity --replace" and press enter
  - Go back to the open terminal and hit backspace. The alert sound is played

The above behaviour occurs regardless of whether the gconf key
  /apps/compiz/general/allscreens/options/audible_bell is set or not.
Moreover, if one sets a visual effect to represent the bell (blur,
water, wobbly, ...), it is displayed. So the bell is being sent,
compiz is receiving it, but it never passes it to the relevant bit of
the desktop that is supposed to play the sound. Metacity does.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1459235] Re: Google Address book: Unable to open address book

2015-06-11 Thread angus73
Just to summarize:

The problem is: Evolution currently (even the git master development
version) doesn't support OAuth authentications directly, only through
GOA.

mmalmeida in comment #1 and comment #11 already pointed out how to solve
this problem:

https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=749974#c4

Yes it is a workaround but AFAIK, and also in the opinion of evo
developers, there are no drawbacks in setting up GOA directly.

So, set up a Google Online Account on your system, and all should work
fine

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1229400] Re: rhythmbox-metadata crashed with SIGSEGV

2015-02-23 Thread angus73
It's not clear to me what are the drawbacks of this bug... I mean, after
the crash rhythmbox seems to keep on working fine, so I would like to
know what does not.

BTW, the bug also affects me on Ubuntu 14.04. When I run rhythmbox (but
only the first time in a session, it seems), the rhythmbox-client crash
window appears.

By the way, I solved the same problem (which was present in 12.04 for a
Canon 650U) as described in

I'm quite sure that this could lead to broking the scanner
  permanently.

Then I downgraded the libsane package to 1.0.15-9 from Debian and
  scanner works fine.

Used version: libsane 1.0.18-3ubuntu API library for scanners

I think this bug is critical to Canon lide30 owners rendering libsane

Christopher, you seem to be talking assuming that I changed the bug
status or pretending to mark this bug as solved, but that's not what I
meant. I only wanted to share my experience because I think it could be
useful to solve the bug. Sorry if I don't understand something, so
please explain me if it is.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1328798] Re: Setting default printer does not work

2014-10-07 Thread angus73
The bug also affects me with CUPS 1.5.3 and Ubuntu 12.04 LTS. Workaround
posted by Phil works.

--

Title:
Setting default printer does not work

Status in “cups” package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
Setting default printer does not work.

This is a nagging bug because it's affecting a commonly used, basic
  function.

This bug persisted for a long time already.
Upgrading from 13.10 to 14.04 did not help.

In my system, there are three configured printers: 1) a locally
connected one (which can be absent or not at boot) - 2) the same
printer accessed over the network at another computer - 3) another
  network printer.

Printer 3 should be the default printer, e.g. the one which is
preselected when opening any print dialogue.

One can set a default printer in system settings - printer. I did this
many times. The check box is set (and is still set when re-entering
the dialogue later or another time), but each time a print dialogue is
accessed in any program, another printer is preselected and not
  printer 3.

One can also set a default printer in the cups admin dialogue. This
did not change the behavior. The desired printer is marked as default
printer in the cups admin interface, but each time a print dialogue is
accessed in e.g. okular, another printer is preselected. So one has to
select each time the desired printer.

Not having to do that each time is what the setting default printer
(by whatever dialogue) is for, but it simply does not work.

One thing I noticed is that in the /etc/cups/printers.conf, the
desired printer (3) is marked as DefaultPrinter Kyocera, but the
closing tag in this file is not named /DefaultPrinter as one would
  expect but just /Printer.

Maybe there is a conflict between two different systems for setting a
default printer (cups vs. system settings)?

It would be nice that if a letter key is pressed when the Contacts

this feature is intentionally not implemented, please explain me why
if that's the case because I didn't find any information about it.

(Tested with Evolution 2.30.3 on Ubuntu 10.10)

  Expected behaviour:
Press a letter key when the contacts window is open selects the first contact
which begins with the corresponding letter

  Current behaviour:
Pressing a letter key when the contacts window is open does nothing.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 989311] Re: Dialog for saving multiple images is too small

2013-05-25 Thread angus73
I am currently experiencing this bug on my Ubuntu 12.04.2 LTS. Is it
normal and is there a way for me to have it fixed?

Thank you,
Andrea

Title:
Dialog for saving multiple images is too small

Status in Eye of GNOME:
  Fix Released
Status in “eog” package in Ubuntu:
  Triaged

Bug description:
I came across this minor but annoying behaviour of Eye of GNOME. When making
changes to some images (i.e. rotate the picture to the correct position) the
program prompts user for confirmation when he tries to close it.
EOG asks user to confirm the changes he has made to very single picture,
exposing a list of the pictures that were modified.

The problem is that the list is costrained into a very tight box, so
that the user can only see the first element; there can be two or
twelve, only the first one will be shown and there is not even the
chance to enlarge the box since its dimension is fixed. Moreover, with
Ubuntu's overlay scrollbars there is not even clear that the list can
be scrolled down since the bar is almost invisible.

I find this is pointless and I supoose should be very easy to fix.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1032251] Re: EOG hangs in Ubuntu 12.04

2012-11-13 Thread angus73
Is there any other option for me to help in troubleshooting this bug? (See my
previous comment #6)
May I use an older kernel, which does not require thepae feature, with the
12.10 daily live image? If yes, which kernel should I choose?
I would be happy to have this bug solved (and to help in solving it), because
my old hardware works fine with Ubuntu with this only drawback, and I think
that one of the best advantages of Linux is to run fine on old hardware.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 157105] Re: nautilus-sendto very slow

2012-09-06 Thread angus73
I experience this bug in Ubuntu Lucid. To reproduce it:
- I right-click on a file in Nautilus
- I choose send to... from the context menu

and then I have to wait some seconds (up to 10 or 20secs) before the
window pops up. This is not critical for me, because it's not so much
time. But if I choose E-mail in the combobox, when I type anything
into the send to textbox (e.g., to write an e-mail address) the
program seems freezeing: the keyboard cursor disappears, and I have to
wait many seconds to have the text appeared in the textbox. Sometimes it
takes more than 30-40 seconds, and sometimes the only way I have to
unfreeze (even after waiting for minutes) it is by killing the process.

I don't know if this could be related to the many contacts (about 1k) I
have in Evolution, and perhaps the send-to program takes many time to
get the data corresponding to the first keys I have typed.

BTW, other times (pehraps it depends on having recently used the send-to
program) the window behaviour is normal, except for the auto-completion
of the contacts that are shown when I type part of a name (or email
address) in the textbox, that does not show anything at all or shows
only a few of the contacts corresponding to the typed text.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 877279] Re: EOG - Image viewer hangs system when opening large image file

2012-05-16 Thread angus73
I can point out that in 12.04 LTS it does happen if I choose the Gnome
session. If I logon into Unity it does not happen... Ironic because it
is EOG, not EOU (Eye Of Unity), and more ironic for me, as I prefer
Gnome :-/

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 877279] Re: EOG - Image viewer hangs system when opening large image file

2012-05-01 Thread angus73
I experienced this problem with Ubuntu 11.10 and hoped that would be fixed in
12.04 LTS. Unfortunately, I can confirm that it still happens in 12.04.
I sum up the behaviour of my system:
- EOG and all the desktop seems freezed when I try to open any image with EOG
(the EOG image loading progress bar usually fills partially)
- when the desktop is freezed:
  - I can still move the mouse pointer
  - ctrl+alt+F1 does not work
  - I can log into the system from a ssh session and restart gdm, and it works
again
- using other programs like f-spot, shotwell etc., the same images are opened
correctly

I agree that this is a critical bug, because it affects the default
image viewer for Ubuntu and it can cause loss of data.

I would also point out that the issue happens with images of different
size, so I would change the bug title, that is about large image files

Let me know if I have to provide any further information

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 572342] Re: quadrapassel won't start: seg fault

2012-02-25 Thread angus73
Reopened because it still affects me in Ubuntu 11.10.
Here are the information you ask:

1. Specific steps or actions I took that caused me to encounter the problem:
run /usr/games/quadrapassel

2. the behavior I expected
have the game running

3. the behavior I actually encountered (in as much detail as possible)
Terminal outputs errore di segmentazione (a.k.a. segmentation fault in
english), the usual command prompt appears and nothing else happens

Let me know if I have to provide any other information

Using Ubuntu 9.04 x64, system up to date as of 2009-05-07, Rhythmbox
  version 0.12.0

After upgrade from 8.10 to 9.04, Rhythmbox no longer displays the
duration of the song. The time column is always Unknown and remains
so even after the song has been played completely.

More serious yet, the seek bar is disabled. Seek bar: the cursor which
shows the relative position of the playing song in the total time. The
cursor always remains at position 0, it doesn't move when the song is
playing and, of course, it is not possible to move it with the mouse.
The only thing I can do is to listen to the song from start to end.

This issue didn't exist with v8.10. On this same machine, VLC can play
the same song and it is possible to move VLC's seekbar.

Thanks in advance for taking care.
