[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1161344] Re: Nautilus crashes when opening several folders in own windows
Confirming on Quantal. Doesn't affect Raring anymore as this option is no longer part of nautilus there. Seems that there's something weird going on in nautilus_window_slot_open_location_full (nautilus-window-manage- views.c). The method is given NAUTILUS_WINDOW_OPEN_FLAG_NEW_TAB flag and is able to determine that it needs to open it in new window BUT then tries to open the window as tab. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to nautilus in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1161344 Title: Nautilus crashes when opening several folders in own windows Status in “nautilus” package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Bug description: To reproduce: 1. Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. This bug did not have a package associated with it, which is important for ensuring that it gets looked at by the proper developers. You can learn more about finding the right package at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage . I have classified this bug as a bug in nautilus. When reporting bugs in the future please use apport by using 'ubuntu- bug' and the name of the package affected. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1098419] Re: Panel should be right-clickable when window is maximised with global menu enabled
** Package changed: gnome-panel (Ubuntu) = unity (Ubuntu) -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to gnome-panel in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1098419 Title: Panel should be right-clickable when window is maximised with global menu enabled Status in “unity” package in Ubuntu: New Bug description: Currently, it is possible to right click on the name bar of a windows to get the drop-down menu allowing the following actions: - Minimise - Maximise - Move - Resize - Always on top - Always on visible workspace - Only on this workspace - Move to workspace x - Move to workspace y - Move to another workspace ... - Close However, when a window is maximised and the top bar is merged with the panel, allowing the global menu, there is no way to access this menu, except going back to windowed mode, thus adding an extra step to execute an action like moving the window to another workspace. WHAT SHOULD HAPPEN: The top panel's empty space should be right-clickable in order to be able to access those options as easily as in windowed mode. Another option, not as good as the first one, would be to add another drop-down menu in the global menu, that would appear only when the window is maximised. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1070885] Re: fglrx doesn't work, my video card is radeon HD4850
AMD recently dropped the support for all pre-evergreen hardware (older than Radeon HD5000) from their Catalyst driver and the last version which supports this hardware is 12.6[1]. However, fglrx 12.6 doesn't support the X in Quantal. As AMD has stated that the legacy Linux driver will only receive critical updates it won't get support for the X used in Quantal. There's nothing we can do to get fglrx working for older hardware in Quantal - it's completely up to AMD whether they add support for newer X versions or not. Meanwhile you can keep using the open source drivers or move back to Precise if fglrx is required. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1051152] Re: Firefox 16 beta crash in nsIContent::SetAttr
Now that you mentioned it, the HUD loading menus at startup is quite a weird one too. It only happens if you had searched something with HUD and activated a result or performed a search and closed HUD by clicking outside HUD area. If you use Escape to close the HUD, the menus will only be loaded once HUD actually needs them. It seems that somehow HUD thinks it needs to know what the menus have ASAP (it's probably left on some kind of a search mode) But I'll open a bug against Unity for that one... -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to firefox in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1051152 Title: Firefox 16 beta crash in nsIContent::SetAttr Status in Unity global menubar extension for Firefox and Thunderbird: Invalid Status in “firefox” package in Ubuntu: Triaged Status in “firefox” source package in Natty: Triaged Status in “firefox” source package in Oneiric: Triaged Status in “firefox” source package in Precise: Triaged Status in “firefox” source package in Quantal: Triaged Bug description: When Global Menu Bar Integration 3.4.1 is enabled, Firefox 16b3 from the firefox-next PPA crashes shortly after opening. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1051152] Re: Firefox 16 beta crash in nsIContent::SetAttr
Alright, it didn't take that long the get it crashing again. After looking into the traffic of the DBusmenu of Firefox, it seems obvious that hud-service is causing these crashes. When Firefox is launched HUD starts to map the menus. HUD iterates trough the menu structure and sends 'opened' events to all the sub-menus in need of mapping. When the focus is changed to another window, HUD wants to close the opened menus. So it sends 'closed' event to all the menus and Firefox responds to that request. But here's the problem: it's closing more menus it opened. For me, it sent 'opened' event to 40 objects but sends 'closed' event to 46 objects. And Firefox crashes. Disabling add-ons one by one I concluded that it's Greasemonkey causing the crashes (which is also in the list of extensions of the original reporter). Greasemonkey adds its own sub-menu to Tools which happen to have exactly 6 menu items: the same number of objects as the extra ones HUD tries to close. So my guess is that HUD considers those items normal menus and tries to close them (why this happens, I have no idea). Here's steps to reproduce the crash: #1: Have Greasemonkey installed and enabled #2: Open Firefox and wait for the window to appear #3: Invoke HUD with ALT and perform a search (might not be needed if hud-service was already running) #4: Give focus to another application #5: Firefox crashes The reason the crash didn't happen all the time was that I hadn't used HUD after booting my computer. So the hud-service wouldn't try to close any menus and the crash would not happen.
It's funny how the crashing stops when I really need it to crash. Well, at least it's safe to say that it's caused by something that's not present in default menu structure. But when the crashing starts again, I'll try to find out what's causing the crashing...
I'm seeing similar crashes (SIGSEGV in nsIContent::SetAttr) with firefox and firefox-globalmenu 15.0.1+build1-0ubuntu0.12.04.1 (current Precise versions). I noticed this when I had the sound indicator menu open and I tried to use a media key on my keyboard to adjust the volume. To reproduce: 1) On a keyboard with media keys such as sound up/down/mute, press one of the media keys and observe that it works as expected 2) Click the sound indicator to open the sound indicator menu 3) Press the media key from step one Expected results: The media key performs its normal function and the corresponding OSD is displayed Actual results: Nothing happens (sound does not get louder/softer, for example) and no OSD is displayed This seems to affect all media keys regardless of their function, and any indicator menu can trigger the behavior. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 923940] Re: Ubuntu 12.04 LTS set max lcd brightness on every boot
I'm no expert but a working command you can use to change the display brightness temporarily as a normal user is: echo somevalue | sudo tee /sys/class/backlight/acpi_video0/brightness For example if you want to set the brightness to 2, run following: echo 2 | sudo tee /sys/class/backlight/acpi_video0/brightness If the command is run as root (like it's done if added to rc.local), you can just use the echo x ... command. If this doesn't work during startup, it's very likely that the case is what Steve Langasek describes in another bug report: And even if you get it to work at the commandline, this setting may be getting overridden by the desktop after rc.local runs. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to gnome-power-manager in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/923940 Title: Ubuntu 12.04 LTS set max lcd brightness on every boot Status in “gnome-power-manager” package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Bug description: I'm on: Linux 3.2.0-12-generic-pae #20-Ubuntu SMP Sat Jan 28 01:10:59 UTC 2012 i686 I solve the issue editing the file /etc/rc.local adding this line echo 4 /sys/class/backlight/acpi_video0/brightness (without quotes) (i use 4 because is value in the middle, in fact 0 is the lower and 8 is the higher) Probably there are a better ways to solve this issue (i hope...) --- ApportVersion: 1.91-0ubuntu1 Architecture: i386 DistroRelease: Ubuntu 12.04 Package: gnome-power-manager 3.2.1-2 [modified: usr/bin/gnome-power-statistics] PackageArchitecture: i386 ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 3.2.0-15.24-generic-pae 3.2.5 Tags: precise Uname: Linux 3.2.0-15-generic-pae i686 UpgradeStatus: No upgrade log present (probably fresh install) UserGroups: adm cdrom dip lpadmin plugdev sambashare sudo To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-power-manager/+bug/923940/+subscriptions -- Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~desktop-packages Post to : desktop-packages@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~desktop-packages More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
