Why not royale.web? Sounds cool to me…
if royale.io or something else is chosen, I’d gladly donate some money. It’s
the least we can do for all the work you folks did last year!

Re: FB to IJ migration

2015-06-01 Thread Dany Dhondt

I have succeeded to migrate from Flash Builder to IntelliJ succesfully.
The final hurdle came up though:
Exporting a release build doesn't seem straightforward!

So far, I know of this possible solutions:

1. Using ANT
2. Using MAVEN and FlexMojos
3. Using this:
http://stackoverflow.com/questions/3416468/exporting-release-build-flex-through-intellij-idea

1. and 2. seems a lot of setup and work just to get a release.
3. Has anyone tried the alternative answer (using Facet's)?

Export Release Build... was a handy command in FB. Are there plans to make this
a bit more straightforward in IJ?

thx,

Dany

Well seems to me it could only be one thing and that is a swc is not setup
correctly that contains the RichTextEditor and it's namespace.

I am guessing the error in laymans is actually say, RichTextEditor is not a
DisplayObject and a FormItem can only have display object children.

But the above is due to IJ not resolving the RichTextEditor correctly.

Re: Geo-fence in Flex/Action Script

2015-05-29 Thread Dany Dhondt
I don't understand the problem you have. Sending geolocations to your server is
quite straightforward. You don't even have to poll since your employees
manually click a button to check in no?

Your server side script could check if the geolocation which is send from your
mobile app is within the geofence coördinates.
IMO, you don't have to geofence. When you have the longlat's of your office,
you can simply calculate the distance to this coördinate.
You need to detect if your employee is within range (circle), not within an
specific area (geofence)

Op 5 mar 2015 om 02:09 uur uur schreef kevin.godell kevin.god...@gmail.com:

@Dany

I wanted to elaborate further on what Alex mentioned about adding a source
path for working on patches.

For example, I just found a problem and wanted to make some quick edits to
see if I could fix ArrayList.as. So, I found the file in the sdk, making
note of the directory structure. I copied the file and created a duplicate
directory and put that in a folder called monkey-patch that I have on my
desktop. The file and directory that I created was
C:\Users\familyRoom\Desktop\monkey-patch\org\apache\flex\collections\
containing a copy of ArrayList.as. The directory and main folder name can be
whatever you like, but I used the desktop just for the sake of being easy to
find. I named the main folder monkey-patch because I think that I may seen
it called monkey patching on some forum. In FB, I went to project -
properties - flex build path - source path and added the monkey-patch
folder via the add folder button. Now, the file can be seen in the package
explorer, which allows me to make quick edits for debugging and testing,
instead of compiling after each edit. There are some limitations, such as if
a file you are tweaking has some include calls to other files, you will
have to include additional directories and files to make FB happy.

It took me longer to write this post than it did to setup the monkey-patch
and fix the file.

Hi Eric,

I'm afraid I need your help again.
The docs say that I have to create a patch file from the root of the sdk.
So, from flex-sdk, I tried this command:

git diff frameworks/projects/spark/src/spark/layouts/ fix.patch

What do I do wrong?

Re: Setup for patching

2015-03-03 Thread Dany Dhondt
Hi all,

I have now:

The flex sdk (cloned from git) under:

[1] /ApacheFlex/source/flex-sdk

Then I ran the ant main OK
Then I've built a sdk for use in FB using
sh makeApacheFlexForIDE.sh /Applications/Adobe Flash Builder
4.7/sdks/Flex_4.15
So the sdk is now under:
[2] /Applications/Adobe Flash Builder 4.7/sdks/Flex_4.15

Is this correct:
I make changes to a file under [1]
I then go through the whole building sequence again
I test the changes under [2]
When all works well, I create a patch under [1] (in Terminal)

Or is there a faster way to change and test changes?

thx

Congratulations! FWIW, for some (not all) code changes, you can try
setting the source-path to the src folder of a folder in
frameworks/projects. Or you can make your own folder tree in your
project’s source folder and make changes there. Source-path is always
supposed to override library-path in the compiler. Sometimes the
compiler won’t be able to resolve certain constants when you do that and
you have to drop back to the way you just did. But if it does work, it
can be the fastest way to try out changes.

But the final test before submitting a patch is to make sure the full
 build still works.

Re: Setup for patching

Hi Eric,

I think I'm almost there. My only confusion is what file I have to edit.

My testproject uses the sdk which is located under the sdks folder of Flash
Builder.
The git repo I cloned on the other hand is located under
/ApacheFlex/source/flex-sdk

Both have a mx::Alert component. Which one do I edit?

There is no need to run the whole build again, just the project you're
working on. So, if you're making changes to the mx::Alert component,
you'd only re-build /frameworks/projects/mx. You can do this by
pointing your Terminal at that directory and execute 'ant main'. This
 will rebuild the project's SWC.

Note: after rebuilding the SWC, do a Project/clean... in FB, to make
sure the compiler picks up the freshly build version.

Setup for patching

2015-03-02 Thread Dany Dhondt
Hi,

Can someone tell me how to setup FB for working with the repository sdk please?

- I've cloned the repository with terminal.
- I've checked out to develop branch
- I want to make a patch

How do I setup Flash Builder at this stage?
Do I have to add the flex-sdk folder somewhere?

Thx for helping out

Dany

Hi Om,

Update:
- I've set up Git and cloned the flex-sdk repo.
- I created a issue in Jira (34772)
- created a branch in Git for this issue

What to do now? Do I have to use this sdk in FB?

thx,

Dany

Re: Spark RichTextEditor

2015-02-26 Thread Dany Dhondt

Hi Curtis,

I realized that the implementation is very simple using your
SparkRichTextEditorToolbar:

piematrix:SparkRichTextEditorToolBar id=toolbar/
s:TextArea id=ta1 focusIn={toolbar.textArea = ta1}
width={toolbar.width}/
s:TextArea id=ta2 focusIn={toolbar.textArea = ta2}
width={toolbar.width}/

Works like a charm! We don't need a RichTextEditor this way, just stack up some
TextArea's.

I suggest to rename SparkRichTextEditorToolBar to TextAreaFormattingToolbar
I think this would be a valuable addition to the sdk.

thanks for the help!

That's a difficult one. In the new design, the stars are aligned in the middle,
but typographically, the old one is better because 'whitespace' (in this case

You could try do to another tweak in the old design: rotate the stars so that

FD gives option to setup many type of SDKs at startup. This includes Haxe,

path) running any AIR application with AIR SDK 14.0 throws compiler error

with AIR 4.0 - I've noticed this issue in both my Mac and Windows setup -
Later when I uninstalled completely from Windows machine and re-setup FD
and its SDKs Without 'Flex SDK 4.6 AIR 4.0' but 'Apache Flex SDK 13.1
AIR 14.0', I able to run a project with AIR 14.0 runtime; these setup and

FD has no template type to create a Library Project neither it has any

FD anyway shows only one project at a time in its Project panel where FB
gives much more access to different projects at a same time. Changing
project workspace each time in FD is somewhat killing efficiency. Running

 *√*
Since FD gives one project workspace access at a time (through its Project
panel), it needs everytime to change that workspace to a different project

With regular installation of FD with 'Apache Flex SDK and AIR SDK 14.0'
installed (or mapped manually), there were multiple occasions when I never
able to run an application but received an exception ‘Invalid application
 descriptor: Unknown namespace: *http://ns.adobe.com/air/application/14.0*

mapped to run with appropriate SDKs. I only able to run an AIR application
with namespace 4.0 (AIR SDK 4.0); Following these complexities I found
using FB is much more easy than FD. Running an application on browser

I am not sure if there is a way or able to run a web application in a
browser in FD - I am also not sure if this is the general behaviour in FD
but this only opens a stand-alone Flash Player window in such cases to run
a project. If this a behaviour of FD I wonder how to test/debug a project

Its a must-needed feature for an IDE but missing in FD. Jumping to ANY

feature which I think available in most of the IDEs today, but its not
available in FD. Right-click and Goto Declaration only available in API
default classes even not for properties. Content Assist menu (Ctrl+Space)

Although FD gives this feature to open Content Assist menu, it does not

IMHO, inviting flex users to the dev list might not work, because of the highly
technical discussions there.
Most people will get overwhelmed with the list traffic I think.
An installer should just do what we expect: install the sdk, no?
The 'how to get involved' is easy to find on our site.

Also, too many people on the dev list might use it as a help line, which isn't
its purpose.
Is there a possibility to have our own 'help' list or forum or is the adobe

Missing on the website

2014-02-03 Thread Dany Dhondt
Hello all,

I'm one of the 1+ that succesfully installed 4.11 SDK. There are a few
things though that might improve the information flow on new updates etc.

1. Wouldn't it be a good idea to publish compact release notes with each
update. These shouldn't list all bug fixes or so but list functionality which
have changed or was added.
Personally I use flex day in day out and sometimes, I 'discover' newly added or
changed functionality (e.g. spark Alert, removeItem on ArrayCollection, etc
...).
this could be as simple as stripping the 'NEW FEATURES' section of the release
notes and put it in a convenient place.
We might put this on a page under 'About flex' or 'Development'??

2. There is some confusion on how to succesfully deploy apps for the new iOS7
platform. Couldn't we write a sort of checklist for the flex community and put
that on the website?

I think these things could add value to our website.

These are just my thoughts on what's missing on the website but maybe others
might have additional suggestions?

Sincerely

Hi Dany, I think that you must allow unsigned apps (in Security Privacy
pane of the System preferences) in order to install it.

In recent versions of OS X, this became a blocking error instead of a
warning by default. This preference setting allows to revert it to a
 warning, non-blocking message.

 Hi,

I tried to install the SDK installer but get an error. When trying to
launch the installer I get an error saying 'Install Apache Flex installer
is from an unknown developer and can't be installed'
I read the wiki but found nothing related to this.

 My system: Mac OS 10.9

 Any thoughts?

 Sincerely,

 Hi,

These days I worked a new spark MaskedTextInput component and I want to
share a demo of this component so you can play with it.
I think there's no such component already in the Flex SDK or out there, and
as I needed for a project I had to make one from scratch.
The component is an extension of spark TextInput.

I plan to commit this component to Apache Flex SDK in the next days unless
someone let me know another alternative or some info
that make this component useless. In order to prepare the commit I want to
ask other committers and PMCs here where is the appropriate place
to hold this component and share what you consider to take into account in
order to make a right integration. If someone thinks it's not worth it to
make it part of the Flex SDK, let me know as well. I don't want to commit
code that could not be right for the SDK.

Here's the link to the demo. I posted as well some doc comment text to
share the properties you can use:

 http://www.carlosrovira.com/blog/spark-maskedtextinput-demo/

Hope you consider it interesting and if you know some other similar
component out there, please let me know! :)

 Best,
