Re: [opencontrail-dev] We need a new name

2017-11-30 Thread Harshad Nakil
Forcing OpenContrail to give up identity that got us here since last five years
is not right.
It is also being ungrateful to creativity.

I never understood the insistence to be part of LF.

Re: [opencontrail-dev] We need a new name

2017-11-30 Thread Gregory Elkinbard
Docker is a single company project. It is not owned by a foundation. Foundation
owns Open Container Initiative.
Kafka is apache. Commercial Kafka is Confluent Platform Enterprise. For the
same reason why there is no Hadoop in Cloudera EDH or Horton HDP

Apache trademark policy is similar to LF. It is actually more extensive and
restrictive then LF.

No, sorry. It’s just a regular “HD” camera I bought a couple years ago. If
anyone does have a 4K camera they want to bring, I’ll defer to them. Or, an
option would be to do both Zoom video and a YouTube (or other) livestream with
one camera positioned right up close to capture only the whiteboard and another
camera for a wider shot of the room. Remote participants would be able to
choose between watching one or both depending on how much monitor
size/resolution and bandwidth they have available.

Recording is auto set for both sessions. Any chance the camera is 4k so that we

I’m planning to bring along the USB video camera that I brought to the St Louis
Contrail summit and share that via Zoom so that remote participants will have
some view of the on-site room, but I don’t know if Zoom will record it. If
somebody wanted to, they could do something like a YouTube live stream on their
phone but I’m not sure how much value that would have. Given our lack of
budget, don’t expect a professional conference video recording setup.

Hi all,

I am a Greek native speaker, sorry I was quiet, other than Greek native speaker
I’ve also been sick so had narrow bandwidth ☹

From Greek native speaker’s perspective the name dikt.io couldn’t be a better
choice ☺ It incorporates playfully Diktyo (=Network as Randy mentioned) and
I/O… So I am all for it. Not totally sure however how it resonates with
non-native Greek speakers which I am guessing will be the majority of the
users/contributors ☺

Regards,

Joseph

PS: If we don’t go for dikt.io I am now seriously considering buying the

elenktis (any native greek speakers here?) Greek word for "Controller" -

Does not suffer from 'OpenFoo names'.

Dear Community Members.
Linux Foundation is unable to accept OpenContrail as a trademark to the project
as Juniper has Contrail product line.
We need to select a different name. Legal team has offered OpenVTrail. But I am
hoping that folks can come up with something cooler.

Please send in your name proposals, by Dec 4th and lets discuss it during the
summit.
Requirements for the name. Full name must be unique and not currently
trademarked.
If the name is a composite, no part of the composite can be trademarked by
another entity.

Linux foundation can temporarily accept us under the OpenContrail name, but
will require a new name after a short transition period.

Thanks
Greg

Re: [opencontrail-dev] We need a new name

2017-11-30 Thread Gasparakis, Joseph

Regards,

Joseph

PS: If we don’t go for dikt.io I am now seriously considering buying the
domain! ☺

I like this intention (riffing off of kubernetes), but elenktis seems like a
mouthful.

What about “networking” or similar in Greek?

…

I’ve registered hikoki.io and dikt.io (diktyo == network in greek), just in
case.

So I’m formally nominating “dikt.io”; it’s good, not great, but it’s short and
sweet.

Best,

elenktis (any native greek speakers here?) Greek word for "Controller" -
following inspiration from kubernetes -
Does not suffer from 'OpenFoo names'.

Hey folks,
As you get your creative hats on, please remember that the name will serve to
advertise our community and attract new users. Ideally, we would want to evoke
what we do in the name, such as network and security.

Thanks
Greg

Thanks
Greg

I don’t think it is necessarily a requirement that it be trademarked. Mostly
we need it fairly unique.

Don’t know if it would be able to be trademarked, without some kind of
variation on the name, but I like:

Re: [opencontrail-dev] Proposed OpenContrail @ KubeCon agenda

2017-11-30 Thread CARVER, PAUL

Zoom will record video.
Recording is auto set for both sessions. Any chance the camera is 4k so that we
can read the white board in video?

I’m planning to bring along the USB video camera that I brought to the St Louis
Contrail summit and share that via Zoom so that remote participants will have
some view of the on-site room, but I don’t know if Zoom will record it. If
somebody wanted to, they could do something like a YouTube live stream on their
phone but I’m not sure how much value that would have. Given our lack of
budget, don’t expect a professional conference video recording setup.

Not quite.
Zoom will record presentations and audio. But I do not think we opted for a
full video set up.

Hi Greg,

Do we plan to video record these sessions?

Thanks,
