Well it is not! I am Solaris user and sometime ago I tried to compile
OpenOffice, when
in fact it should compile on Solaris out-of-the-box... I asked the core
developers
to drop support for SunStudio since it assumes one compiles with a version that
shipped with Solaris 9 (the current version of Solaris is 11 and Solaris 9 was
eoled a
few years ago...) and it does not compile even with recent versions of
SunStudio.
And when I managed to compile everything, I had noticed that OpenOffice could
not open docx and othe zipped document formats. The people of LibreOffice
asked me to incorporate my patches to their source tree (I had of course no
objection). Now LibreOffice compiles just fine under Solaris and there are
packages
for all variants of Solaris including the Open version. In a nutshell, some
people
listen and care about any user while some others just don't give a dime...

A.S.

2016-07-02 Thread Απόστολος Συρόπουλος

> > https://hunspell.github.io/

Actually this is the spelling assistant not the hyphenator. This module is
described in the following URL:

https://www.openoffice.org/lingucomponent/hyphenator.html

There I read the following:

You need to put an indicator of the character encoding used
as the first line of the dictionary file (look in hyph_en.dic).

Possible values are: ISO8859-1, ISO8859-2, ..., ISO8859-10, KOI8-R

So in the era of Unicode, OpenOffice insists on using single byte encodings
which practically means that
it is impossible to hyphenate ancient Greek text. The reason? You need UTF-8
hyphenation patterns which
of course exist in the TeX world and are used by XeTeX.

Spelling of Ancient Greek

2016-06-29 Thread Απόστολος Συρόπουλος
Hello,

Suppose i would like to prepare a document in ancient Greek using AOO.
Naturally, I would like to enable hyphenation. To the best of my knowledge,
AOO is borrowing UTF-8 hyphenation patterns that are used in the TeX world.
If this is true, could you please let me know how can I create a hyphenation
file for AOO form a TeX hyphenation patterns?

Thanks in advance.

First I did this in the past. Please see

At that time I was sure the patches would find their way to source tree,
but apparently they have been ignored...

I said that they are more open-minded! And I based this on my own
personal experience. Not to mention that since you got the code
from a company that produces Solaris, out of courtesy you should
ensure the suite compiles under Solaris...

Hardware? We are not talking about SPARC machines. Nobody
cares about these machines anymore. We are talking about
"ordinary" computers with Intel or Intel-like processors. Second
you do not need experts. You only need people that know
Unix. After all, we are not takling about driver porting here...

I am sure the whole OpenIndiana community would like to help
provided you do a few simple things: abandon SunStudio for
Solaris and change the MAKE files according to our suggestions.

Look the people of LibreOffice have abandoned SunStudio and have
included such patches in their source tree and now LibreOffice
compiles just fine. In fact, OpenIndiana has a LibreOffice package.

> That's also the reason why the build environment still uses Sun Studio
> and nothing else - instead or additional.

When I tried to compile with SunStudio I realized that the building
tools require a really ancient version of the compiler that has no
provision for language constructs, etc., that are included in the code.
For example, the template library is ancient and does not include
things that the source code expects. So practically it is next to
impossible to compile OpenOffice with SunStudio. Since you
are not going to change your mind, better remove all Solaris bits
so the make the code cleaner. Fortunately, the LibreOffice
people are more open-minded...

The main problem of OpenOffice on Solaris is that it still
assumes that one will use SunStudio to compile it. I think
OpenOffice should drop completely its support for this
compiler in favor for GCC. Once, I compiled OpenOffice
with GCC but for some reason it was failing to open
zipped formats (.docx etc). Also, I published all my
pathces and some of them were included in the source
tree. Some of the pacthes mentioned on the links above
are based on the patches I made. Unfortunately, no one
carred to update the code...

 Joerg Schmidt shared an interesting whitepaper from Microsoft White
 Paper: OpenOffice / LibreOffice Evaluation Criteria on the dev-de list.

 I found it interesting and thought it can be of interest for others here

I have read the white paper (why it is called white is another story) and I
think that it is the usual market nonsense. Microsoft is loosing money and
they want to find a way to get their former customers back. An interesting
comment included in this white paper is the following one:

Microsoft Office 2010 boosts Indian IT firm's productivity by 30 percent.

I just wonder how the prodictivity of an IT company is increased by using
a word processor or a lousy database?

 We would need Apostolos to agree to contribute under the Apache

 already contribute the patches from his blog?) For example, it would
 be fine if he just sent a note to the mailing list, pointing to the

Hello,

Of course I agree to include in the source tree anything you think is useful.
So please go ahead and include these patches.

 We are attempting to use the newly build OpenOffice 4.0.1 for Solaris 11 x86,
 but the 'Save As' to disk of any document type (i.e. .ods) continuous to
 prompt for a file name. Each time we hit okay to save the document after
 supplying a unique name, the FilePicker closes, but instantly reappears again.

 I have narrowed it down to the following code located in
 sfx2/source/doc/guisaveas.cxx lines 1497-1520

 The program gets stuck in the while loop below. The variable 'bExit' is
 never set to sal_True, so the loop continuous. I provide a name to the
 FilePicker interface, click Save and the loop continuous, redisplaying the
 dialog. To resolve the issue, I added bExit = sal_True after line 1513 so
 that the loop discontinuous. I am not sure if this will have effects in other
 situations, maybe someone can provide some feedback, but for now. I am able
 to save.

 sal_Bool bExit = sal_False;
 1497   while ( !bExit )
 1498   {
 1499   bUseFilterOptions = aModelData.OutputFileDialog( nStoreMode,
 aFilterProps, bSetStandardName, aSuggestedName, bPreselectPassword,
 aSuggestedDir, nDialog, sStandardDir, aBlackList );
 1500
 1501 // in case the dialog is opend a second time the folder should be
 the same as before, not what was handed over by parameters
 1502   aSuggestedDir = ::rtl::OUString();
 1503   if ( nStoreMode == SAVEAS_REQUESTED )
 1504   {
 1505 // in case of saving check filter for possible alien warning
 1506   ::rtl::OUString aSelFilterName =
 aModelData.GetMediaDescr().getUnpackedValueOrDefault(
 1507   aFilterNameString,
 1508   ::rtl::OUString() );
 1509   sal_Int8 nStatusFilterSave = aModelData.CheckFilter(
 aSelFilterName );
 1510   if ( nStatusFilterSave == STATUS_SAVEAS_STANDARDNAME ) These are
 equal during runtime
 1511   {
 1512 // switch to best filter
 1513 bSetStandardName = sal_True; bSetStandardName is set to
 sal_True here, but bExit is not, so the loop continuous. Setting bExit
 following this line allows the program to save.
 ++bExit = salTrue;
 1514   }
 1515   else if ( nStatusFilterSave == STATUS_SAVE )
 1516   {
 1517 // user confirmed alien filter or good filter is used

I replying from a mobile device... The problem is that the file solaris.mk

 I'm not sure whether the SPARCv9 ABI spec is relevant for your build
 environment, but it mentions this 16byte stack alignment in [1] as
 something new. Maybe the other changes may be relevant too to solve the
 bridge problems.

Well, as I said my patch is based on the code found in the corresponding
gcc3-linux-intel file. Obviously, this has nothing to do with SPARC machines,
but then again it might be some kind of leftover.

 In particular I'd also suggest to mark the ecx register as clobbered
 like we do in [2] by changing the line:
   : eax, edx
 to
   : eax, edx, ecx

I have changed this and it still compiles the testtools.

Of course the patch is just a copy of the corresponding Linux patch, but
I was not sure whether it work!

 Ouch! None of the exception stuff works in your new build. That is a
 hard nut to crack...

I have recompiled the libraries used by uno with debugging info and I have
enabled this time

testtools compilation fails :-(

2014-01-03 Thread Απόστολος Συρόπουλος
Hello,

In previous messages I reported my efforts to compile OpenOffice on
OpenSolaris.  Since I thought
that certain things were not properly compiled, I recompiled everything and now
compilation
stops with the message that follows. Note that that I have compled everything
with -std=c++11
and I had to modify a bit the stl headers (hash_map, hash_set, etc.) Also, in
linking the various
map files are ignored. Any help of assistance would be greatly appreciated!

RE: createRegistryServiceFactory: cannot get uno environments!

2013-12-23 Thread Απόστολος Συρόπουλος
 Wonderful. Getting there means that both the dmake and the gbuild
 systems worked and the UNO bridge on this platform is doing alright.
 These are all critical steps on new (or occassionally unmaintained)
 platforms. With a bit of luck you should be able to build the remainder
 of AOO and have it working as a special Christmas gift ;-)

Compilation proceeds with a few problems but I have a way to solve them.
More when the whole process will finish.

 If you needed to update any of the makefiles to make it build I suggest
 you create an issue for it and attach the patches there.

I will do it in due time.

 I'll be (mostly) offline for the rest of the year.

RE: createRegistryServiceFactory: cannot get uno environments!

  Google returns nothing about libg++_uno...

 A library like that should be automatically built as one of the bridges
 in main/bridge/source/cppu_uno/. In your case the gcc3_solaris_intel
 bridge might be a good candidate but as the name says it probably builds
 a libgcc3_uno.so instead of the libg++_uno.so your other binaries
 expect. Check the makefile.mk in the bridge. Or find out why your
 binaries look for a libg++_uno.so instead of a libgcc3_uno.so.

I built everything from the beginning and when the system tries to
build the bridges part it does the following:

=
Building module bridges
=

Entering /extra/sources/OpenOffice/aoo4/main/bridges/inc

mkout -- version: 1.8

Entering /extra/sources/OpenOffice/aoo4/main/bridges/unotypes

Entering
/extra/sources/OpenOffice/aoo4/main/bridges/source/cpp_uno/gcc3_linux_arm
Entering /extra/sources/OpenOffice/aoo4/main/bridges/source/cpp_uno/shared

Somehow, it fails to realize that the system is gcc3_solaris_intel and so it
does not
select the correct bridge. BTW, someone who tried to compile LibreOffice on
Solaris
had a similar problem:

http://permalink.gmane.org/gmane.comp.documentfoundation.libreoffice.devel/51479

In LibreOffice the module that is responsible for the selection is called
Modules_bridges.mk,
what is the corresponding module in Apache OpenOffice?

Hello,

While compiling comphelper under Solaris, compilation stopped with the
following error message:

In file included from
/extra/sources/OpenOffice/aoo4/main/comphelper/source/misc/locale.cxx:26:0:

error: expected unqualified-id before numeric constant
/extra/sources/OpenOffice/aoo4/main/comphelper/source/misc/locale.cxx:142:22:
error: expected unqualified-id before numeric constant

The problem with lines 74 and 77 is that the symbols CS and ES are defined in
/usr/include/sys/regset.h The short program

#include iostream
using namespace std;

int main() {
  cout  CS =   CS  endl;
  cout  ES =   ES  endl;
}

prints

CS = 15
ES = 2

I had the same problem when I was trying to compile file Bidi.cpp of the
graphite2-1.2.1 source tree.
In this case, upstream had modified the file but here I have no idea what is
the best solution. As for
the other errors I guess they might have something to do with the previous
errors.

I have solved the problem by adding the line

in file main/solver/410/unxsogi.pro/inc/comphelper/locale.hxx
Whether this is a valid solution or not, I have no idea...

RE: soltools need(s) to be rebuilt

2013-12-11 Thread Απόστολος Συρόπουλος

 Many of those projects have RTTI or C++ exceptions disabled, so problems
 with typeinfo visibility may not show up there.

I have figured out that I need to use GCC with the Solaris linker to avoid all
these problems. BTW, the GCC people suggest people who use their
compiler on Solaris to avoid using the GNU linker. So when I switched to
the Solaris linker, all these problems disappeared. So the file

solenv/gbuild/platform/solaris.mk

need to modified in order to compile with GCC. As it stands, it assumes
the compilation on Solaris is done using Solaris Studio!

 They certainly will be. I'm looking forward to have unxsogi as a
 platform with an out of the box build experience again.

Me too :-)

Dear Herbert,

 I have to admit that I have no clue about libxmlsec's detailed configure
 requirements, so I'm afraid I can't help here much. But with the
 knowledge that licrypto comes from openssl, with libxmlsec complaining
 about the one openssl is providing maybe some changed linker or build
 options could suffice. I'm sure you're on the right track with the
 unxsogi.mk changes you suggest below.

Finally, I have managed to build the library. Whether it is a good one, this
is something that I will discover when I will finish.

Now I have another problem. When compiling cppu I I get the following error
message:

RE: soltools need(s) to be rebuilt

2013-12-05 Thread Απόστολος Συρόπουλος
Hello Herbert,

 Did it build with these configure options? Except for the minor nit that
 --with-openssl is set twice, it looks good to me. The option has been
 set as no and as /usr, but AFAIK the no should win.

The problem is that when configuring without the /usr value, the configure
script
stops and complains that there is no libcrypto!

   There is a libcrypto.a in
  /extra/sources/OpenOffice/aoo4/main/solver/410/unxsogi.pro/lib
  but this cannot be used to build a shared object (at least that's what the
  linkers say).

 That libcrypto.a comes from openssl and if libxmlsec was configured with
 the --with-openssl=no option it shouldn't be needed anyway.

Sounds quite reasonable but the configure script, as I have mentioned above,
complains. Now. I am building using the unxsogi.mk file. This is something the
building tools have chosen. However, I have noticed that this file does not
contain any LINKFLAGSRUNPATH variables and so when building idlc, I get
the following error:

Making:idlc
unx
/opt/gnu/bin/gld: warning: libstore.so.3, needed by
/extra/sources/OpenOffice/aoo4/main/solver/410/unxsogi.pro/lib/libreg.so, not
found (try using -rpath or -rpath-link)

I feel that unxsogi.mk is incomplete but then again I might be wrong. I have
added the following lines in this file

LINKFLAGSRUNPATH_URELIB=-Wl,-z,origin -Wl,-rpath,\''$$ORIGIN'\'
LINKFLAGSRUNPATH_UREBIN=-Wl,-z,origin -Wl,-rpath,\''$$ORIGIN'\'
#LINKFLAGSRUNPATH_UREBIN=-Wl,-z,origin -Wl,-rpath,\''$$ORIGIN/../lib:$$ORIGIN'\'
#TODO: drop $ORIGIN once no URE executable is also shipped in OOo

#LINKFLAGSRUNPATH_BOXT=-Wl,-z,origin
-Wl,-rpath,\''$$ORIGIN/../../../basis-link/program'\'
LINKFLAGSRUNPATH_NONE=

but I guess I need to reconfigure so this lines will be used in the building
process, right?

Best regards,

Apostolos

2013-12-04 Thread Απόστολος Συρόπουλος
Hello,

I am still struggling... Now I was trying to build libxmlsec and the
configuration parameters did not give the expected result. I had
to enter manually the following command

./configure ADDCFLAGS= CPPFLAGS= --with-pic --disable-shared
--disable-crypto-dl --with-libxslt=no --with-openssl=no --with-gnutls=no
LIBXML2LIB=-lxml2 --enable-pkgconfig=no --with-openssl=/usr
--with-nss=/extra/sources/OpenOffice/aoo4/main/solver/410/unxsogi.pro
--with-nspr=/extra/sources/OpenOffice/aoo4/main/solver/410/unxsogi.pro

in order to build the libraries. Is this OK? There is a libcrypto.a in
/extra/sources/OpenOffice/aoo4/main/solver/410/unxsogi.pro/lib
but this cannot be used to build a shared object (at least that's what the
linkers say).

Hello again,

I have downloaded the source code and I have reconfigured etc.
What I have observed so far is that there are a number of
utilities that consist of C and C++ source files. In all these cases,
the build script uses the C compile and so obviously it fails to build
the object files. For example,

After reading the reply by jan I. I decided to try again with GCC.
Now, compilation proceeds with no stupid problems as before.
BTW, main/soltools/adjustvisibility/adjustvisibility.c does not
compile with g++ but it compiles with CC so this is the only
thing I had to do manually. However, now compilation stops
as follows:

I see that file interlck_x86.s is old... but I have no idea why linking fails.
Any ideas and/or suggestions?

 The quoted -features=rvalueref compiler option is probably caused by the
 ARCH_FLAGS define in main/solenv/inc/unxsoli4.mk
 I suggest to unquote it. But why did it work for others? Did dmake
 unquote automatically at one time?

I have no idea :-( However, I have managed to go further and now compilation
stops at

build --all:moz

2013-11-28 Thread Απόστολος Συρόπουλος

 I dont know how you managed to get that directory.

I was manually building inside this folder...

 the build system never add files or changes in the source directories. When
 I look in
 main/soltools/mkdepend on my system (after a complete build):

 cd mkdepend/
 ls
 collectdircontent.cxx  def.h   imakemdep.h  makefile.mk   pr.c
 collectdircontent.hxx  ifparser.c  include.cmkdepend.man
 cppsetup.c ifparser.h  main.c   parse.c

 you find .o files in soltools/unxlngx6.pro/obj

 unxlngx6.pro has different names on different platforms.

OK this last piece of information helped to manually compile all soltools.
I am proceeding slowly now since many things fail and I have to do them
manually. For example, the following fails

configure: configuring in CoinUtils
configure: running /bin/sh './configure'
--prefix=/extra/sources/OpenOffice/aoo-4.0.1/ext_libraries/coinmp/unxsoli4.pro/misc/build/CoinMP-1.6.0
  '--disable-pkg-config' '--disable-bzlib' '--disable-zlib' 'CC=/usr/bin/cc
-features=rvalueref' 'CXX=/usr/bin/CC -features=rvalueref'
--cache-file=/dev/null --srcdir=.

simply because 'CC=/usr/bin/cc -features=rvalueref' 'CXX=/usr/bin/CC
-features=rvalueref'  should be
'CC=/usr/bin/cc -features=rvalueref' 'CXX=/usr/bin/CC -features=rvalueref'

I cross my fingers and I proceed.

Thanks once more for your help.

soltools need(s) to be rebuilt

2013-11-27 Thread Απόστολος Συρόπουλος
Hello,

I have come to the conclusion that OpenOffice cannot be configured (at least
easily)
to compile with GNU g++ under Solaris. So I have tried Solaris Studio. Now I am
getting the following error message:

=

When you have fixed the errors in that module you can resume the build by
running:

build --all:soltools

Since I have manually compiled the mkdepend tool, it seems to me that the
problem here is that the make
script forces the C compiler to compile a C++ file, which of course is a bug. I
would really appreciate it
if someone would tell me either how to convince the make script that the
binary has been build (I have
no knowledge of dmake!) or how to fix the building script to choose the correct
compiler for the corresponding
source file.

RE: soltools need(s) to be rebuilt

2013-11-27 Thread Απόστολος Συρόπουλος
 As with any makefile, the whole chain is checked, and when you are in
 soltools/mkdepend it check the object files against the source, and the exe
 against the object files.

 I work on changing the build system, and I often cheat the make system by
 doing touch obj file, that way its not rebuilt.

No it is not working. Here are the contents of the folder:

$ pwd
/extra/sources/OpenOffice/aoo-4.0.1/main/soltools/mkdepend
$ ls
collectdircontent.cxx  cppsetup.o  imakemdep.hmake_makedepend  parse.o
collectdircontent.hxx  def.h   include.cmakefile.mk pr.c
collectdircontent.oifparser.c  include.omkdepend pr.o
collectdircontent.obj  ifparser.h  main.cmkdepend.man
cppsetup.c   ifparser.o  main.oparse.c

Of course it is quite possible that I am doing something wrong...

Since there is no binary package for any version of Solaris x86, I am trying to

will work in later versions.

I have downloaded the source code and I did the following:

$ export LD_ALTEXEC=/usr/bin/gld

$ export JAVA_HOME=/usr/java
$ ./configure

--disable-odk --with-lang=el en
--with-junit=/extra/sources/OpenOffice/java/junit-4.11.jar --prefix=/opt/gnu
$ source SolarisX86GccEnv.Set

Then I did the following:

$ cd instsetoo_native

and when I give the build --all command I get the following:
