Licensing guidelines for AppStream project_license

2021-05-18 Thread Otto Urpelainen
I asked this question a while ago on the packaging mailing list [0], but
did not receive any replies. Let me try again here on devel with more
subscribers:

During the package review of qvge [1], the following question came up:
Are the any requirements placed on the contents of AppStream metadata,
particularly the field project_license [2]? It feels natural that is
MUST be the same (modulo differences in notation) as specfile License,
since both have the same meaning. However, I cannot find anything in
Licensing Guidelines about this.

In my experience, this comes up quite often, since upstreams often have
bundled dependencies or other copy-pasted code with different license
than upstream's own code, yet AppStream metadata, LICENSE file, README
and so only list upstream's own license.

Copr just uses `mock-core-configs` package, and the `epel-*.cfg` files
there.

I believe that anyone who will need to do local builds (including Fedora
Copr) will be able to get the appropriate subscription [1], and so we'll
be able to change the epel-8 config from centos+epel to rhel+epel in
mock-core-configs. Btw. there already are some `rhelepel-*` configs
(feel free to try them, as that's what will be in epel-*, see also [2]).

I also believe that we'll be able to have some subscription for
Fedora Copr builders that will allow us to continue using
mock-core-configs in default variant.

Cross-arch builds (--forcearch) will stop working till bz#1912847 is fixed, and
this would affect Copr.

> BTW, I assume that EPEL stuff are build on RHEL.

EPEL content is built in Koji _against_ RHEL+EPEL repos.

I thought that this is normal situation (8.4 release is fresh), and that
CentOS 8 is supported till the end of this year - so please correct me if
I'm wrong but CentOS 8 should still get the 8.4 update?

  This was Fedora 31 feature.

I was wondering: Fedora CoreOS actively undoes distribution-wide
changes (at least the two above, I remember lagging with iptables-nft
around Fedora 32). End user may confused, seeing the list of changes
for the release X, but receiving only few of them with edition CoreOS X.

Should such divergence be allowed? Should Fedora CoreOS use the same
version number while not containing all the changes from main Fedora Linux?

However I always have a hard time understanding what the issue caught
by RPMLint actually is.
I would like to see some library of the checks with the explanation of
what it is, why it is important and usual examples of bad / correct
code and how to fix it. Something like CWEs (e.g. [1])
Is there something like it already by any chance ?

There is a long way between an error / warning being reported by
RPMLint with maintainer just ignoring it, and the maintainer to
understand the value and importance of having it fixed (as well as
knowledge how to fix it)

I think I understood what was the matter.
To increase the version, I added the letter b to the release version
(the full name turned out to be
rpm-4.16.90-0.git15395.8b.fc35.src.rpm).
Strangely, the host system considered this change significant and
installed my version, but in the mock container this change was
ignored and the usual version of rpm-build was installed.

Not likely LTO since this isn't a link phase AFAICT.

I have no need for the emacs portion of this package and only need the
preview.sty portion for texstudio, so I really don't want to take it on as
a full package. I can see three options for this:
1) Someone adopts the full package and maintains it (it was orphaned for
FTBFS: https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1923372)
2) It gets retired and I have to introduce a new package just for the tex
file
3) The texlive-preview subpackage gets renabled in the main texlive
distribution and provides this instead (since CPAN also contains this file
and includes it inside upstream texlive technically, but we just don't
package it there).

My preference is either 1 or 3 happens, since I think it would be bad to
have a standalone package maintained independently for just that tex file.

Does anyone use the emacs plugin this provides (auctex) and would be
willing to take on this package?

[Bug 1961865] New: perl-Net-CIDR-Lite: Incorrect handling of IP address with leading zeros in IP octets

2021-05-18 Thread bugzilla
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1961865

Bug ID: 1961865
Summary: perl-Net-CIDR-Lite: Incorrect handling of IP address
with leading zeros in IP octets
   Product: Security Response
  Hardware: All
OS: Linux
Status: NEW
 Component: vulnerability
  Keywords: Security
  Severity: medium
  Priority: medium
  Assignee: security-response-t...@redhat.com
  Reporter: tho...@redhat.com
CC: p...@city-fan.org, perl-devel@lists.fedoraproject.org,
pzhu...@redhat.com, st...@silug.org
  Target Milestone: ---
Classification: Other

It was discovered that the perl Net-CIDR-Lite module did not correctly handle
IP addresses with IP octets containing leading zeros. Leading zeros were
ignored, while the underlying system can treat such octets as octal numbers and
interpret them differently. For example, IP address of 010.0.0.1 was
considered by Net-CIDR-Lite to be the same address as 10.0.0.1, while system
may consider it to be IP address 8.0.0.1.

Reference:

https://blog.urth.org/2021/03/29/security-issues-in-perl-ip-address-distros/#net-cidr-litehttpsmetacpanorgreleasenet-cidr-lite

This issue was fixed in Net-CIDR-Lite version 0.22 via this change:

https://metacpan.org/diff/file?target=STIGTSP/Net-CIDR-Lite-0.22/Lite.pm=DOUGW%2FNet-CIDR-Lite-0.21%2FLite.pm

An example of a potentially vulnerable use case can be found in the
SpamAssassin's URILocalBL plugin:

https://svn.apache.org/viewvc/spamassassin/tags/spamassassin_release_3_4_6/lib/Mail/SpamAssassin/Plugin/URILocalBL.pm?view=markup

It allows checking URLs extracted from emails against locally defined blacklist
of IP ranges. IP addresses to check are typically obtained by resolving host
names used in URLs. However, URLs with IP addresses can be used directly.
Hence, this issue could potentially lead to a bypass of the defined blacklist.
Note that this plugin does not seem to be affected due to the use of a strict
regular expression used to determine if URL contains host name or IP address.
That regular expression does not consider addresses with leading zeros as valid
IP addresses and performs their resolution, translating the IP string to how
system interprets it.

rubygem-maruku?

Indeed.

If I'm reading your report correctly it's saying that it's pcs which depends on
rubygem-maruku. (And glusterfs, or more specifically, glusterfs-ganesha depends
on pcs.)

That is also correct.

I took the dummy's way out (rather than simply trust the report) and installed
pcs (and a bunch of other things before I realized what the report was saying)
on both my f34 and f35/rawhide boxes. In both cases rubygem-maruku was _not_
installed.

The problematic dependency is a transitive build dependency. Your test only
verifies runtime dependencies.

Also `rpm -q --requires pcs` did not list rubygem-maruku.

Similarly, this only queries direct runtime dependencies.

From the full linked report:

Depending on: rubygem-maruku (43), status change: 2021-05-06 (1 weeks ago)
rubygem-tilt (maintained by: valtri, vondruch)
rubygem-tilt-2.0.10-4.fc34.src requires rubygem(asciidoctor) =
2.0.15, rubygem(maruku) = 0.7.2

pcs (maintained by: cfeist, idevat, mlisik, omular, tojeline)
pcs-0.10.8-1.fc34.src requires rubygem-tilt = 2.0.10-4.fc34
pcs-0.10.8-1.fc34.x86_64 requires rubygem-tilt = 2.0.10-4.fc34

So, technically:

 - Once rubygem-maruku is retired, rubygem-tilt fails to build.
 - Iff rubygem-tilt is not fixed, it will be orphaned and retired eventually.
 - Once rubygem-tilt is retired, pcs fails to build and fails to install.
 - When pcs fails to install, so does glusterfs-ganesha.

The script creating this output is run and developed by Fedora
Release Engineering. Please report issues at its pagure instance:
https://pagure.io/releng/

Should I file a report? ;-)

If you know how to present the information in a less confusing way, please do
file a report.

I didn't notice that opam had been orphaned. This package is the tool
used for source packaging of OCaml packages under $HOME
(https://opam.ocaml.org/).

I don't especially like language-specific tools for managing packages,
because of the usual problems that have been widely discussed
elsewhere and it's not profitable to rehash them again. This is my
personal view.

The question is if we want to keep this in Fedora or not? ie. As an
official Fedora package versus something that opam maintainers would
provide themselves as a download.

Rich.

Building for EPEL-8 and CMake (again)

2021-05-18 Thread Ron Olson
Hey all-

Awhile back I asked about the status of CMake in CentOS so I could build my
packages for EPEL-8; they require a version of CMake that is greater than
3.11.4 which is currently available. CentOS Stream has a later version, as does
RHEL 8.4. I get that CentOS Stream is the future of CentOS, but when I run a
koji build for EPEL 8 it uses CentOS 8, not CentOS Stream and thus all my
builds fail.

TL;DR: How can I build anything for EPEL 8 with CMake if the package is too old?

Thanks!

Ron

I've managed to re-send the bcc'ed message via Gmail web interface.
Unfortunately, it doesn't let me set Reply-To header :/

Fedora CoreOS stable stream now rebased to Fedora 34

2021-05-18 Thread Dusty Mabe
Over the next two days we're rolling out the first Fedora 34 based
Fedora CoreOS into the `stable` stream.

Some notable issues/configurations:

- Very old systems (Fedora 32 and earlier) may not be able to update [0]
- systemd-resolved is still enabled but not used yet [1]

Here are some highlights of recently added features in Fedora CoreOS:

- The `/boot` partition is now mounted read-only.
- This continues the work to protect more of the OS from accidental damage.
- It is now possible to configure boot disk RAID 1 mirroring via Ignition [2].
- Better introspection into the state of Zincati (the update agent) from
`rpm-ostree status`.
- Better support for disk encryption.
- Initial (non-automatic) support for updating the bootloader. [3]

Here are some new features landing in the coming months:

- Support for specifying kernel arguments via Ignition [4].
- Move to cgroup v2 by default [5].
- DNF Count Me support for Fedora CoreOS [6].

Thanks to everyone who participated in the test day [7] and to everyone that
run the `testing` and `next` streams to help us identify and fix issues
before they get to `stable`.

Dusty Mabe, for the Fedora CoreOS team

Planned Outage - s390x builders - 2021-06-04 22:00 UTC

2021-05-18 Thread Kevin Fenzi
Planned Outage - s390x builders - 2021-06-04 22:00 UTC

There will be an outage starting at 2021-06-04 22:00 UTC,
which will last approximately 36 hours.

To convert UTC to your local time, take a look at
http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Infrastructure/UTCHowto
or run:

date -d '2021-06-04 22:00UTC'

Reason for outage:

The facility hosting the fedora s390x builders has a site wide power outage
scheduled for June 4th to June 6th. We will be powering off these builders at
22UTC on 2021-06-04. It's likely that they will be back sometime late in the
day of 2021-06-05, but it could be they are not back until 2021-06-06. During
this time any builds that build against s390x will stall in 'free' state until
the builders are back. No rawhide composes will be done in the outage window.

Affected Services:

koji builds needing to build on s390x will queue up and wait for the builders
to return.

aom soname bump

2021-05-18 Thread Robert-André Mauchin

Hi,

AOM AV1 version 3 has been published a while ago and I am planning to
update it in Fedora. Due to a CVE affecting versions prior to 2021-04-07
(CVE-2021-30473), I plan to push this update to ALL STABLE RELEASES:

https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1961376

I intend to wait until 3.1.1 which fix a few compilation bugs, and wait
for jpeg-xl to be packaged to benefit from the new butteraugli tuning.

Affected packages as follows:

avidemux rpmfusion-free
cinelerra-gg rpmfusion-free
ffmpeg rpmfusion-free
go-avif fedora (should be retired)
gstreamer1-plugins-bad-free fedora
libavif fedora
libheif rpmfusion-free
rust-aom-sys fedora
seamonkey fedora
vlc rpmfusion-free
xine-lib rpmfusion-free

I will rebuild the affected packages using my PP.

Best regards,

Robert-André

p.s.: Leigh, I might need your help not to fuck up the repo in rpmfusion
like last time (if you explain me your process to keep the branches in
sync it would be nice).

Disable annobin on 32 bit Arm while an issue is investigated?

2021-05-18 Thread Arjun Shankar
Hello, devel and arm lists!

We recently ran into a testsuite failure when building glibc for
Rawhide on armv7hl:
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1951492

The test program experienced a hang after a thread was cancelled.

So far, it appears that either annobin generated notes or the way in
which the static linker interprets them lead to incorrect unwind
information in 32 bit Arm binaries.

While in this case only a glibc testsuite failure was caught, there is
a chance that building with annobin can lead to incorrect unwind
information and associated problems for any armv7hl Rawhide package
built this way.

With this in mind, I would like to know how the Fedora-Arm developer
community feels about disabling annobin when building RPMs only on
armv7hl until this issue is investigated and the root cause fixed.
This should be possible with a change to the redhat-rpm-config.

Cheers,
Arjun

The new rpmlint is different. Better, but different. Going through rawhide only

It would be great if somebody provided Copr project for stable release.

I don't think it needs to be turned off, but the issue does need to be
addressed. The first time I got a failure message, I had to go and
investigate. Took a minute to figure out what was going on. Now that I
know that it is the issue, I am ignoring those messages. I haven't seen
a real failure yet on anything I submitted, but I would assume the
message looks the same, and I likely won't notice until I go into bodhi
to do something with the update.
As for now, I think the gating is probably more valuable than the flawed
output of the tool. Leave it on, but perhaps add some priority to fixing

I don't really think this is necessary? It's not really 'displaying'
anything inaccurate at any point. Just not totally clear. When the
tests aren't yet run it shows that some results are missing, which is
true. When they are finished it shows the correct status and gates

Or maybe instead of saying it's retiring, do Fedora's Orphaning format.
Announce they are orphaning the package, and if a package is orphaned for a
certain amount of time, and has all the orphan annoucements, it get's
removed.
But I do like your checkbox way for announcing the reasons for
retiring/orphaning.

imported like a standard Python module! This means that all the normal
use-cases for RPMLint are still supported, but now you can make it a
part of larger Python-based applications or services.
* RPMLint uses a declarative TOML-based syntax for configuring RPMLint
policy instead of Python code.
* RPMLint now has an override system for the descriptions shown for
various checks, so that distributions who want to give specific policy
information can do so without patching the code.
* RPMLint includes _many more checks_! Nearly all of the generally
useful checks created by the openSUSE community have been merged into
the tree, so distributions can now benefit from a wider offering of
checks to implement policy enforcement.
* RPMLint is Python 3 only and now supports Python 3.6 and newer.
* RPMLint is now built and installed like a standard Python
application using setuptools.

Awesome! What is the plan for Fedora? Shall we migrate to rpmlint 2 in
rawhide? I recall Mirek Suchý had some WIP Fedora config.

I want to specifically thank Tomáš Chvátal, Martin Liska, Kristyna
Streitova, Dirk Mueller, Miroslav Suchý, Ondřej Súkup, thisisshub, and
Miro Hrončok as top contributors to make this release happen!

I've barely made it :D

RPMLint 2.0 released!

2021-05-18 Thread Neal Gompa
Hey all,

Nearly four years and *754 commits* since rpmlint 1.10, we are
releasing rpmlint 2.0.0!

This new release has a _lot_ of new features, but here are the most notable:

* RPMLint now is a "normal" Python application and now supports being
imported like a standard Python module!

I want to specifically thank Tomáš Chvátal, Martin Liska, Kristyna
Streitova, Dirk Mueller, Miroslav Suchý, Ondřej Súkup, thisisshub, and
Miro Hrončok as top contributors to make this release happen!

sdl12-compat claims to be binary-compatible with SDL 1.2, so this should in
principle not be a problem. Subtle behavioral differences or bugs (or even
fixed bugs) could cause problems though.

Well in the case an application depends on the system libraries I would
assume sdl12-compat to be a drop in solution.

Back in 2019[1] Ryan Gordon showed that the original Unreal Tournament
2004 runs fine under the compatibility layer so I would assume the same
for everything that doesn't depend on quirks or bugs.

[EPEL-devel] Re: intent to retire roundcubemail in epel7

roundcubemail in epel7 is very old at this point, and can never be
upgraded because epel7 has too old a php.

It's got 10 CVEs open against it.

I'm planning on retiring it later today.

I can mail epel-announce about it...

What is the PHP issue? Roundcube 1.4 requires PHP >= 5.4.1 -
https://roundcube.net/about/#features. Current PHP is php-5.4.16-48. There
is also 1.3.16 and the LTS 1.2.13 = https://roundcube.net/download/.

Currently epel7 has 1.2.12. We could update to 1.2.13, which fixes 2 of
the CVE's... but that leaves 8 more. I don't really think they are going
to be doing any more 1.2.x releases now that 1.5 is almost out.

Sorry I wasn't being exact there, it's not php itself, it's various php
related things. Like php-pear version 1.10.1 is needed and rhel7 has
1.9.4 and so on.

If you would like to try and get 1.4.x working on epel7 that would be
great! Of course the 1.2 -> 1.4 jump would be pretty major for
users, but such things happen.

kevin

Let me first say I run ClearOS7 which is a Centos7 clone and we
generally use EPEL - it is enabled by default. However, in this case, we
do not use the EPEL version of Roundcube - I think ours is set up
slightly differently with Sieve and the Global Address Book. However it
is not regularly maintained so is often out of date. Our version history is:

1.0.5
1.1.3
1.2.3
1.3.9

I don't know the EPEL packaging but in ClearOS, going from 1.2 -> 1.3
had a few changes to the spec file - capitalisation on the Global
Address Book file name and, in the %files section, a load of changes
specifying individual files instead of whole directories under plugins.
(I am not sure why that was done), but, for the users, the upgrade
process was seamless each time.

Could you please also amend the summary to say how the default will change?

That's a very nice feature!

Hmm, could you please explicitly say in the Change page how
/etc/nsswitch.conf is modified (so people don't have to follow the pull
requests to figure it out)?

2.15 breaks compatibility (datasource globbing is turned off by default now).
Suitable for Rawhide only.
