[IxDA Discuss] Corporate culture and IxD
A couple of articles to illustrate: http://dustincurtis.com/dear_american_airlines.html http://dustincurtis.com/dear_dustin_curtis.html Has anyone here had the same or similar experiences as Mr X? Briefly, Dustin Curtis came up with a redesign of the American Airlines website because of his perception of a poor customer experience. A UX Designer from AA replied discussing the difficulties of getting good work out of the door because of corporate culture. Welcome to the Interaction Design Association (IxDA)! Re: [IxDA Discuss] Corporate culture and IxD
I'm surprised to read that the UX designer was fired. All he did was to state the challenges of working for a large corporation (nothing very unusual, really -- these barriers and silos are commonly found at many large corporations), and mention a few department names. If this constitutes protected information, then ... well, that's insane. If this designer had ever wanted to speak at a conference regarding his work for AA, he would have mentioned all of this and more. It's weird that his employer thinks that discussing such things is a violation of their security in some way -- if anything, the designer was evangelizing for his company. -Anne On Thu, Nov 5, 2009 at 7:19 AM, Alan Salmoni a...@usernumber1.com wrote: A couple of articles to illustrate: http://dustincurtis.com/dear_american_airlines.html http://dustincurtis.com/dear_dustin_curtis.html Has anyone here had the same or similar experiences as Mr X? Re: [IxDA Discuss] Corporate culture and IxD
I've had many experiences like Mr. X. Where I think Dustin Curtis has gone wrong in his analysis is in his assumption that the CEO is more than marginally aware of the website, user experience or why any of this matters. That does not accord with my experience of large company senior executives at all. Charlie Charles B. Hi Ali, You can see a review of an eye tracking paper that they recently wrote here: http://www.scribd.com/doc/19994794/Nielsen-Norman-Group-Report-Response The technology used was not the most up to date. [IxDA Discuss] Best Practices and/or Examples of Search Results for Mixing Password Protected (members-only) content and Public Content
I'm interested if anyone has any thoughts (or examples) of mixing password-protected (member-only) content and public content in search results. I have a couple of projects for associations serving a mixed audience of members and the general public. Some articles/pages on the site are available to the public and some are only available to members. One thought we're exploring is allowing non-members to search the site and see both public and private results, but only be able to click through to public content. Private content might not have a link or the link might connect to an explanation page (e.g. you could see this content if you were a member). This way the search results are complete and would serve as a sales tool. Any thoughts? Thanks, jerry Welcome to the Interaction Design Association (IxDA)!
