yes I run AV software, it is a windows box, remember ;) I also run a firewall (kerio) No seriously, I've never had to tweak anything of McAfee to get any software running. The firewall has been told to stay clear of the Squeezebox traffic. I just tried disabling AV runtime monitoring and my firewall completely but it does not fix it. I did find that when trying more it *sometimes* plays correctly, and with disabled AV and firewall it more frequently works fine, but that is zero statistical proof... Most of the time I get this gap. And *sometimes* there are short audio bursts during the gap, as if it tries to play but has insufficient audio in the buffer. any logging I can enable to find what's wrong? -- Pétur Alternative free open source firmware for your mp3 player - http://www.rockbox.org/ Pétur's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=363 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=46479 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss

The single click issue is an interesting one - I also find this difficult on occasions with the latest firmware (7.0.1 SC). It used to be a lot easier with some of the early beta firmwares, but those firmwares were impossibly slow when scrolling long lists of items. My impression is that speeding up the long list scrolling acceleration has made it a bit harder to achieve a single click scroll. Restarted the server, nopthing shows up in the applet installer on the controller. [slim] Moving SqueezeCenter from Windows to Linux = Speedier
This may be a big no sh*t Sherlock item for some, but I figured I would post my experience on switching my SqueezeCenter installation from Windows 2000 to Ubuntu Server 7.10 on the same hardware. _Bottom_Line_Up_Front:_ The web interface is snappier, it's faster on scanning, and on starting a song when I press 'play'. My library is 5300 songs mostly FLAC. Difficulty Level: Based on your experienceif you're un-familiar with Linux there is a bit of a learning curve. Hardware: SqueezeCenter runs on a Dell Inspiron 5000, circa 2000 (that's right, 8 years old!), Pentium III 650mhz, 1GB Ram. Music is on a Buffalo Linkstation HG-HDLAN300. I went with this hardware config because 1) I already had it 2) It is low-power. I was running a minimal installation of Windows 2000, ie no fluf, just the OS and some security software (gotta love windows). The laptop is also a printer server for the house. *NOTE:* Getting *my* printer to work in Linux was a major PITA but its a special case (HPLaserJet 1000). I decided to try linux because the SqueezeCenter interface with Windows was just slow (on my hardware) and I figured I'd give it a try before breaking down and buying new hardware. In other words I'm a cheap bastard. I had played with Debian and Ubuntu before so I wasn't a total Linux noob, but pretty close. Setting up Ubuntu Server was easy, as was SqueezeCenter, I just downloaded the CD image from ubuntu, ran it, and followed the instructions on the Slim Devices website under the Linux download page. Note: if you aren't a little comfortable with using the command line in Linux you would need to download the ubuntu-desktop package after installing, I didn't want to use any more resources than necessary so I didn't do this. I used pico instead of vi to edit text files, this or nano lower the learning curve (I hate the vi text editor). Obstacles: Getting Ubuntu and my Linkstation to play nicely required a bit of research on Google but again its not too bad. This link worked for me: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=288534 The biggest pain was not SqueezeCenter but getting my Printer up and running in Linux. Apparently the HP LaserJet1000 needs to have its firmware loaded by the driver everynow and then. This is abnormal and it took a bit of research and trial and error to get it working, much to the distress of my wife who suggested I marry the computer since I spent all my time on it. :D But its all working now!! It's faster AND I don't have the permission problems on printing I was having under windows. Yay! Re: [slim] Biogrpahy and Album Review Display on Duet Controller?
OK, I realise the directions are not that good, so I'll try again. 1. Get Biography and AlbumReview from the top of this page: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=43713highlight=biographypage=4 Save and unzip to desktop. This should create a directory called AlbumReview on the desktop, where in particular the following directory hierarchy should exist: DESKTOP/AlbumReview/jive/AlbumReview In the last, or deepest, AlbumReview directory you should see: AlbumReviewApplet.lua AlbumReviewMeta.luastrings.txt This is the directory and contents you need to copy to /usr/share/jive/applets. 2. Get pscp.exe from: http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/putty/download.html and save pscp.exe to desktop. 3. Open cmd.exe, the MS command line. 4. Change directory in the command line so desktop is the current directory. E.g. if you write 'dir' you should see the top level of the files you've unzipped. 5. I'm asssuming you know your controllers IP, and I'll call it SBC-IP. In the command line write: pscp.exe -r AlbumReview/jive/AlbumReview [EMAIL PROTECTED]:/usr/share/jive/applets/ You should get prompted for the SBC password, 1234 by default. The -r option means recursively, i.e. the last AlbumReview directory including its contents. [EMAIL PROTECTED] means that the secure copy is being done by the root SBC user. I'm not 100% sure the syntax is correct, this is how it works in Linux. If you get errors try pscp.exe -h or pscp.exe -? to access the help for pscp. 6. Optional. Log into your SBC using putty and check that the AlbumReview with its contents is in fact in /usr/share/jive/applets/ 7. Restart the SBC. AlbumReview should now appear under Extras. The procedure for Biography is similar. Hope you can get it to work. It is a REALLY nice application perfect for the SBC. -- bhaagensen bhaagensen's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=7418 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=46467 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss

Re: [slim] Controller Performance Problem
I am beginning to suspect that I am the only person who is experiencing this problem ( it is still present with controller software build r2297). If this is the case, I would be interested in hearing from anyone else who has a similar config to mine: SqueezeCenter r7.0.1 on a Vista PC with wired connection to a NAS (in this case, an Infrant ReadyNAS 600) with an SB3 (or SBR) using a wireless connection, to see what typical response times people are seeing when they select albums to view all tracks using the controller. This may help me to identify whether there is a problem with my setup or that a 5-10 second delay when viewing all tracks for any *new* (i.e. previously unplayed) album is what everyone else is seeing. I have to say that the stability of the SBC and SBR is improving with every (beta) build, it is just the above issue which spoils the effects somewhat. When I hand the controller to new users, they all find the UI very intuitive but think they have done something wrong when they select an album and just see the symbol rotating). -- EliteAV EliteAV's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=15932 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=45121 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss

[slim] No wireless connection with SBR and Fritzbox 7270
Hi together, I got my first 2 Duest systems today, but I'm already pretty frustrated :-( The first one did not work at all - dead power supply on the SBR. OK, can happen. But on top of that, the Receiver does not connect on my wireless network. It stops with a blue LED and that's it. The controller works fine and my Transporter plus another SB3 as well. The controller finds the Receiver as long as the red LED is blinking, but cannot connect it to my network. With a cable, everything runs OK and the Receiver is working. My router is a Fritzbox 7270. A very popular one now here in Germany. I'm running the latest 7.01 on a Ds207+ with SSODS, but also tried the same version on my PC. No difference. I use WPA, but also tried with open network - no difference. Anybody any idea what is wrong? As my Transporter, SB3 and Controller are working, there must be something wrong with the automatic settings on the Receiver. Is there no way to set the parameters for the wireless network by hand when the unit is hooked up on a cable? [slim] Wiping out the library - is there a quick method?
I'm in the process of testing MiP/ SC7 integration on my NAS. As I've a large library and rescanning it takes a long time I'm looking for a quick way to drop all records in SC7's underlying DB without destroying the database integrity, eg deleting records in tables that SC7 uses that have little to do with an individual's actual library. What is the simplest/ quickest way to achieve this so that I can repoint SC7 to a subset of my library and get on with testing rather than listen to a pointless Clear and Rescan take forever to clear the existing library and scan nothing...? The simplest way to clear the library is to do the clear and rescan. Apart from the fact that, I believe, it does the clear bit really quickly if you were to do it any other way and there was a problem how would you know if it was your integration or the method of clearing the database. But my controller told me that a update is waiting. ok, I press the button, the controller tells me that that the update is running. after the restart the conroller tells me a update is waiting. I press the the the button, the controller restarts and ??? the controller tells me a update is waiting... and so on. No chance to hear music. no reset of the controller helps. everytime the controller wants to make an update. Hell, I payed 400 Euro for this bananaware. The Idea of the sqeezebox duett is great, if it works its a very good peace of hardware... but the software is a alpha-release. so i will take a cd and put it into my player and hear my music in the old way.. -- xn03296 xn03296's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=16592 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=45031 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss

I found the solution in another thread. When it prompts you to update, if you hit the back button to get back to Settings. Then goto Advanced and choose Software Update. It worked that way for me. Re: [slim] Fileshare Problem with SqueezeCenter v7.0
Just to close this out and for future reference if anyone else ever runs into this problem: I just set my HP MediaVault network based storage to allow FTP read only access and SC 7.0 can now access the music directory when running as a service. I didn't have any logical reason to try turning-on FTP access, just frustrated and willing to try anything. It - the MediaVault volumes - were already set to allow read-write access for network computers using CIFS and NFS, and to allow read only web browser access. I never would have suspected that SC 7.0 would need FTP access to access the drive when running as a service. Re: [slim] Squeeze controller losing network connection
if i push the back button, nothing happens. Its like a loop. I only can push the OK button for the update, the controller reboots and a only can choose the option start the update. I restarted the slimserver, I have updatet the slimserver to the newest version. nothing helps. I am an it-professional, I know clusters, solaris, networks and so on. I have a wired 100 MBit CAT5 Lan and I use the Duett in the Bridge Mode. Buts this peace of hardware makes me crazy. sometimes it runs like a charme, but sometimes you cant use it because you have no connection to the receiver, why? its a miracle. You look to your network, to your dhcp server to the mac-adresses, to the slimserver and and and... My Network is wired, so it couldnt be a wireless problem. I am tired of spending so much time in making this peace of hardware working. Try doing a reset on the receiver (hold the button in until you see rapid flashes). At the same time, do a factory reset on the remote. Then after setting it up (again), when it says it has a 2287 update, hit the back button. Hopefully this will work for you. My conclusion is that in order to quickly kill SC7's library, the best thing to do is point it to a single album folder as your library source and then to run a clear and rescan everything. I've now resorted to that and hopefully will have MiP integration up in a while without having to have my full library scanned. I've moved a few albums into a temp folder and pointed SC as well as MiP headless to that for the purposes of further testing. I guess I should have started there rather than unleash SC on an 80k+ track library, hell I could have been done by now (the entire library has already undergone MiP analysis). That's a firmware feature of the Squeezebox, not a SqueezeCenter feature. It works fine with SqueezeCenter 7 and the Squeezebox firmware that SC7 prefers.
