Re: [slim] Squeezecenter setup issues and some impressions
unchecked. And yet ... once Squeezecenter had finished scanning my library, it went off and scanned my iTunes library too. So I checked my settings, and the use iTunes option was still unchecked. Huh? Would you mind uploading your server.prefs, plugin/itunes.prefs and plugin/state.prefs files? This shouldn't happen - and I've never seen it happen neither. Microsoft, but personally, I prefer IE's UI to Firefox. Please don't make me run a different browser just to use my music player. You could give Prism a try - it's basically a FF wrapper which makes a web page look like an app. http://labs.mozilla.com/2007/10/prism/ This way you would continue using your preferred browser while having the advantage of running SC in an improved environment. Lastly, I took a look at the scanner logs. Imagine my surprise when I noticed that, despite my being very specific about where to look for playlists and music, Squeezecenter had gone off and scanned all sorts of other locations on my system, so all sorts of whacky playlists Make sure none of these whacky lists is still inside the folder you're still using. SC will follow playlists and shortcuts inside the defined music folder. It will _not_ search anywhere else unless lead there by your files. -- Michael ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss

It looks like you are experiencing bug #4266 ( http://bugs.slimdevices.com/show_bug.cgi?id=4266 ) although opened in 2006 - more comments were added this year. There is a patch in the bug comments but it only works for non MP3 streams. There are other patches in this thread from post #18 onwards ( http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=27996 ) . These patches still seems valid but theire location has slightly moved. Does anyone have a suggestion for a naming strategy of pages that is related to setting up a configuration with various third party plugins ? Maybe the actual page name doesn't matter and we should just put them in a specific category instead ? In that case, any suggestion on a good category name ? Maybe Configuration Examples ? The reason for the question is that I like to move the pages regarding this that I currently have on my personal wiki. As an example a page that describes how to setup support for ratings in SqueezeCenter: http://wiki.erland.homeip.net/index.php/Setup:_Rating_support_in_SlimServer The complete list of pages I like to move is those listed on this page: http://wiki.erland.homeip.net/index.php/Category:SlimServer_Configuration_Examples The above mentioned pages currently have large focus on my own plugins, the idea with moving them to the slimdevices wiki is to make it possible for other plugin developers to add more information regarding their plugins that is useful in the context and also to make it possible for users to edit the contents based on their experience. -- erland Erland Isaksson 'My homepage' (http://erland.homeip.net) 'My download page' (http://erland.homeip.net/download) (Developer of 'TrackStat, SQLPlayList, DynamicPlayList, Custom Browse, Custom Scan, Custom Skip, Multi Library and Database Query plugins' (http://wiki.erland.homeip.net/index.php/Category:SlimServer)) erland's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=3124 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=46350 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss

I guess the page name only matters if the main route for people finding it is going to be through an alphabetical list of page names! I'm not sure if we have a strategy for navigation yet, or a clear structure to work with. I can see, for example, quite a lot of orphaned pages but really don't know where they should be put: I think someone needs to take some leadership (with consultation here, hopefully) on this. I think your idea of using a Category in that way is a good one (it will help people find similar pages in the darkest corners of the wiki!) but I don't think we should be relying on Categories as a main navigation route. For some reason, the CD did not come back after I had stopped playing it. It wasn't even visible in Disk Utility as an unmounted drive. So I had a bit of a hassle ejecting it. Re: [slim] SC 7 playing tracks in alpha betical order
To corroborate what's been said here, if you add the songs by going to Browse Music folder, they will play in order when the album is selected in New Music. I assume that since it's adding to the database in filename order (and my filenames lead with a 2-digit track number) that the order in the database is track order. If you add via a scan for new music they're in a different order. A wipe and rescan apparently adds them in filename order. jamesmadams;297675 Wrote: G... I've taken the plunge this week and ordered a Squeezebox Duet. I've been deliberating over Squeezebox/Sonos for some time, and a friend finally convinced me to take the plunge. I ordered via the Logitech website on Monday. Come today, Thursday, I had not heard a peep, so I phoned their e-commerce support line and spoke to a guy who said that basically, there was a public holiday in a few countries in Europe, so it hadn't been despatched yet from Germany, and he couldn't check any more details because the system is hosted in Switzerland and they weren't working today! What sort of system is this? He then said - If you haven't heard from us by Tuesday, give us a ring back! I can't believe it can take so long to get something sorted out, and I can't believe the slapdash approach to customer service - this is too long to wait for the product when they are all in stock. Has anyone else experienced poor service like this? Re: [slim] Transporter problem - knob i locking
Today it happened again. The knob is locking but the music still plays. But I found out something new: It seems that the knob is acting almost as normal depending on where you are - perhaps with a little more resistance than normal - except that nothing happens when you move the knob. In Now Playing I can turn the wheels forward and backward, but nothing happens. The buttoms on the Transporter is working. When I push back I get to the Current playlist (well, my display is danish, and I don't remember the exact english word). In Current playlist I can hardly turn the knob backwards (as is normal because of the magnetic break), but I can turn it forward. But still, nothing happens. Also nothing happens whein I push the knob. When I take out the power cable the knob becomes loose; I can easily turn it backwards and forwards. And when I plug back the power cord everyting works as normal. Sean (or anyboby else), does this give you any clue if this is software or hardware related? I hope I do not have to bring it in for repair - especially as I have had almost the same problem with another Transporter. -- jazztime jazztime's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=4951 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=46166 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss

Aha! Thanks. I knew it was there somewhere. I've tried aoss while running the java interpreter and it doesn't seeem to make a difference for me. My theory is that since the jre I'm using has native alsa support it is bypassing aoss and interfacing with alsa natively. Re: [slim] Hide SSID ?
For what it's worth; I use a similar manual system; which creates a strong password which are very easy to remember. (ie password containing a mix of upper case letters, lower case letters and numbers.) You have two cats called Tiddles and Cuddles which were born in 2002 = TidCud02 Still moving waaay OT. This approach generates keys that appear strong, and are moderately strong against a bad guy who picks you at random. But not all bad guys do that. Many (most?) serious attacks start with some social engineering. Finding your name, wife's name, kids names, pets names is fairly easy, whether it be by looking at facebook or just walking down the street and being friendly when you are walking the dog. Your tidcut02 example is not close to random. A dictionary of your favorite words, pets, etc. with all sorts of variant spellings is still tiny. Better than leaving it as linksys but really a false security. I personally believe that remembered passwords just don't work for serious security. If its random enough to be strong, you won't remember it. If you can remember, its not really strong. Protecting your music library does not require serious security. Re: [slim] Problems after upgrading to SqueezeCenter 7
After having run for a while the response started to slow down. In the end I couldn't open Album or artists or anything. Then there comes up messages about Receiver have problems to connect to the server on the PC. I reinstalled the Squeezecneter several times, set back the factory settings. Nothing of this worked. Finally I removed the power from my Wireless router. When I powered the router back on again and restarted all Squeezebox unit suddenly everything worked fine for a while. So now I have the situation that I need to repower the router from time to time. Sometimes it can work for hours with active use and sometimes less. The more I change albums, artists and so on the sooner I need to repower. My router is a very old D-link 614+ so I have considered now to buy a new router and I hope that will do the trick. I have seen other cases here on the forum where they also have been changing to a newer router and have solved problems. Sometimes they're on a post-it on a user's monitor, or the password is password or Secret and I figure I'd ought to at least say something. Up to now, I've been telling folks about book codes (i.e. find a phrase you can remember) and then interject some numbers and/or punctuation. I've had an 'empeg' (http://riocar.org) for almost 8 years now. I have yet to find something to replace it. The biggest problem with many new cars is the lack of a proper DIN slot to move it to. A squeezebox-car could be close to an acceptable UI, but no where near as good as the empeg for car use. Re: [slim] Some albums not getting scanned
This may be obvious and unhelpful, but I had this problem recently and realized it was because of a stupid mistake I was making. It appears that 7.0 -- at least my installation -- defaulted not to allow automatic rescanning for music. You have to go into settings and turn on the auto-rescan. Once I did that, no more problems. Regarding your issue of some albums not showing up after a manual rescan, I used to have this problem before 7.0, when an album's composer was the same as its artist. I'm not sure if that bug has been fixed or not, but it used to prevent that particular album from being scanned. The workaround is just to change the composer to something different, and the album will get picked up. -- darius darius's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=11040 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=46820 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss
