My old router on Amazon got a dismall 2 stars, if that! I was quite

Re: [slim] Combining two filestore trees

2009-03-30 Thread chill

Thanks for the replies folks. You are right that 'Browse Artist' is a
good way to do this. I do this on my main SB2 setup, and in fact
without this option I would never have sorted my library into the two
trees.

However, I've recently added a Boom to the system. The Boom remote has
no letter keys, and I've yet to find a convenient way to jump to a
letter of the alphabet in 'Browse Artist' (maybe I've missed something
here). I know I can hold the scroll keys to scroll faster, which helps
a bit, but I still find it more convenient at times to navigate the
folder tree.

I have a feeling that to make use of the shortcut idea I'll need to put
shortcuts to every folder that's at the end of each branch (ie the
individual albums) into a common tree structure. Obviously that'll be
too many albums to do manually, so I'm going to look into an automated
approach. I recall a program (?cakewalk?) that allowed me to recurse
through a folder structure and carry out the same string of commands at
every level, so if I can just find out the batch command for adding a
shortcut I'll be nearly there.

i agree with most of that, but for gamers or P2P people the router can
make a difference. there's also how much load you put on your internal
network, (as opposed to your ISP), and i judge a router by how well it
does that too, especially the wireless part since i use a lot of
wireless devices.

i also haven't done a price comparison, so i don't know how much more,
if anything, this router would be than what i consider to be a good
router. that difference in cost, if any, should be figured into the
decision.

chances are he will be happy with his purchase, esp if he uses tomato
or something like that. but that doesn't mean the article is in any
way, inaccurate or faulty or misleading. its just something to be
aware of.

Yep, I read the article and it does talk about both. Although it gives
a little bit better review of the L version than the Non-L

After reading this - I began to feel a little bit of buyer remorse.
But what the heck, like you said - its cheap.

Went back to Amazon to look a little bit deeper at all the reviews.
Its rated 4.5 out of 5 and there we're glowing comments on this router.
Several mentioned using Tomato or other 3rd party firmware. One
glowing review about a month ago was from a Squeezebox owner!

So, I guess I will wait till I receive the router and hook it up.

what test? the bandwidth test? 30min for 16 175meg files is
impressive, or at least, somewhat better than avg i would say.

one P2P benchmark i look at tho, is how many simultaneous connections

anyway, it'll probably work for you, but i would def use tomshardware
in the future to mine info, i don't know of any better hardware site on

Re: [slim] Combining two filestore trees

2009-03-30 Thread chill

Hmm - just did a quick test. I created a dummy top level folder, and
then created shortcuts to a couple of album folders. I pointed SC to
the dummy top level folder, then cleared and rescanned. SC sees the
shortcuts as folders, but doesn't seem to see the contents. I'll redo
this test when I have more time, but at first sight it seems that I'll
need to create shortcuts to every single file in the filestore.

On reflection, if this is the case, I think I might as well copy the
two filestore trees into a single combined location and then keep the
original sorted trees as both my master and backup. A couple of batch
files will conveniently keep the 'combined' library up to date with
respect to the master.

Unless we are in some language translation barrier here (Spanish
Chinese English) this doesn't sound right. Also, for any SB3 menu
item that requires input I'm pretty sure the UP and DOWN arrows can be
used for alpha-numeric selection.

I'd suggest trying to connect the SB3 to SqueezeCenter on your local
computer first, see if it even works properly within your own network.

Might want to try a Factory Reset as well to wipe out any existing
settings:
Unplug power, press and hold the ADD (+) button, plug power back in
while holding down that ADD button, leave it alone for a couple of
minutes (screen goes blank for a while, wait for the screen to come
back on).

seller is from Suzhou where some Squeezebox models are manufactured at
the Logitech plant.

[slim] Help! A second hand Squeezebox v3

2009-03-30 Thread r808a

Hello everyone,

I am from China. I have bought a second hand Squeezebox classic media
player on an auction site named taobao.com. It comes with the small
remote designated for Squeezebox Boom instead of that for the classic
with alphanumeric keys. Its display language is Spanish. When I plugged
it on, it prompted me escriba codigo de bloqueo de configuracion
(enter the configuration block code). But with the wrong remote I can
enter nothing, either numbers or letters. And then it tries to connect
to Squeezenetwork, then gives the message codigo de bloqueo de
configuracion incorrecto (wrong configuration block code). What on
earth is that codigo de bloqueo de configuracion? What should I do to
make it connect to Squeezenetwork? Must I replace the remote, or contact
the previous owner to tell me the codigo de bloqueo de configuracion?

The problem now is how to make my Squeezebox connect to the
SqueezeNetwork. I created my SqueezeNetwork account without entering
the SB PIN code. I don't know it because I can't enter the Squeezebox
settings without this codigo de bloqueo de configuracion.

I really appreciate your help. Thanks in advance!

Actually I can read some Spanish. There is no Chinese displayed. When I
power the unit on, there will come out the Logitech and Squeezebox
logos, then the welcome message in Spanish, then escriba codigo de
bloqueo de configuracion (with 4 blank spaces () for key input in
the second row). I don't know this codigo (code) or how to enter the
code with this mismatched remote. After some seconds it will show
connectando a SqueezeNetwork (connecting to SqueezeNetwork). Then it
says it cannot connect to SN because the code is incorrect (also in
Spanish). The screen goes blank if there is no action input for several
seconds.

Re: [slim] iPod Genius similar to MusicIP

2009-03-30 Thread Moonbase

Unfortunately not :-(

Filters in MIP are quite restrictive regarding which variables and
operators can be used, and how many conditions can be met. Also, they
don’t support power words and custom variables stored in their
database. (Which you can define in the -powerwords.txt- file.)

Maybe that was the original reason to make power searches available
in the API like filters.

I'm thinking that thing goes directly to squeeze network and tries to
log on there.

Press and hold left arrow. that should take you to the screen where you
can choose network set up and sources. Firstly set it up with your local
copy of SC. Or ,even better, do a reset (ADD button and unplug/plug in a
power) and start from scratch.

I've never seen my SB players ask for any such code. Try the Factory

Do you have a registered SqueezeNetwork account?

I know China blocks many web sites, I wonder if SN is one of them?

think indicates how good a connection I have. According to the site,
30,000 Kbps = T3 30mbs. My test result came back 163,200 Kbps / 30,000

Re: [slim] Ipeng Question...

2009-03-30 Thread gharris999

I'm pretty sure SC's search doesn't search through comment data. I'm a
heavy and obsessive user of the comment tag in my flacs...usually
listing all the personnel in chamber ensembles and sometimes the entire
roster of an orchestra or choir. None of those names can be searched
on.

For the OP: I settled on the this tagging scheme several years ago and
it seems adequate for classical music given SC's current tag parsing
abilities:

PERFORMER == composer
ALBUMTITLE == Major Work - Soloist, Ensemble Name, Principal Member

Thus:

PERFORMER == Bach, C P E
ALBUMTITLE == Cello Concertos - Anner Bylsma, Orchestra of the Age of
Enlightenment, Gustav Leonhardt

That way I can search on any of these: C P E, Cello Concerto,
Bylsma, Enlightenment, Leonhardt .. and have the album show up in
the list of found albums. Searching on Leonhardt just now turned up 25
albums by various composers where Leonhardt is part of the album title.
What's missing from SC's search utility, imho, is any awareness of
boolian search operators: e.g. Leonhardt AND Bach currently turns up
nothing.

2009-03-30 Thread r808a

Yes, after power on, it tries to connect to SN first, but stays in that
dead loop of connecting to SN enter the 4-digit code code
incorrect impossible to connect to SN. Pressing ADD while
unplugging/plugging results in the same situation, no factory reset.

One thing somewhat weird: when I push the up and down arrow trying to
enter the 4 digits, the blank space x only jerks up and down but no
number comes out. Is it because of the wrong remote? Can the remote for
SB Boom be used on SB Classic?

Another thing: I have SqueezeCenter installed on my computer, but when
I doubleclick the SC button to start it, an error message will pop up:
http://127.0.0.1:9000, application not found. That is, clicking on SC
from the system tray does nothing, but I can access SC from
http://localhost:9000/ or http://127.0.0.1:9000. By running netstat
-ab from command line, I got the following result. Is this normal or
abnormal?

Some more details would be helpful. Is the Boom connected to your local
SqueezeCenter, or connected to SqueezeNetwork? What kind of security do
you have on your home network? Are you sure that the Boom isn't
responding to stray remote commands (eg, sometimes the remote for
another device can affect a Squeezebox)? Does the phantom have good
musical taste?

If you are connected to your local SC you might be able to find out
something by turning up the logging level in Settings Advanced
Logging. I'm not sure which category you would want to set to a
noisier log level, or even if it would work.

To get rid of the setup lock code you need to factory reset your SB3.

Power up your SB3 and when the Logitech logo scrolls into view, press

BTW: Even if you had the correct setup lock code you would not be able
to enter it with a Boom remote as you need the number buttons for

[slim] MusicIP development... stalled???

2009-03-30 Thread tamanaco

I was wondering why the MusicIP mixer had not been updated for a while.
I went over to the MusicIP forum and found this recent thread.
http://forums.musicip.com/index.php?showtopic=4286 It appears that
that the main developer/architect (Wendell) has moved on. It would be a
pity if no one picks up on the development of this mixer soon.

Maybe Logitech with its deep pockets can make a move on MusicIP (buy it
from Parasoft) and incorporate its functionality in SC. Now that would
really give the SC server a boost. I'm pretty sure that if the
intellectual capital of MusicIP were to be made available for sale... a
bunch of other companies in the digital music delivery business would
also make a move on it.

What is this lock code? I've never heard of it before.

Locks the network setup, you can set it from the firmware setup menu
(under Current Settings).

What about a JVC DVD player remote with numbers, would that work?
Probably.
