Re: [slim] How to find these forums from Logitech these days?
That is clear they want complaints where the support staff are. But what is not that clear to is why there is no links from this forum to such interesting places like http://downloads.slimdevices.com/ and others like the firmware upgrade repository where can get new fw to your controller etc . change logs svn and so on You have to know or ask on this forum all the time . I think I have 5-10 different bookmarks to keep track of what's going on in the SB world . Re: [slim] [ANNOUNCE] Music-Playback arrives on iPad: SqueezePad 1.7.0 released
I wouldn't say that Squeezey and SqueezePad work the same. Squeezey only supports mp3, so the LAME codec needs to be installed on the server - and anything must go through the CPU intensive mp3 encoding. SqueezePad support a lot more formats natively (and I'll implement native FLAC in some later version anyway). FLAC to PCM decoding (i.e. SqueezePad) is much more lightweight than FLAC decoding and mp3 encoding (i.e. Squeezey). Also - as written - Squeezey doesn't support internet-radio (which needs some special treatment, as the iPad mp3 decoder alone cannot handle all streams). And none of the other Apps can operate with MySqueezebox.com alone. I'll look into Napster soon, don't have an account myself but that's what the testing is for. I already updated all descriptions this morning that Napster and Rhapsody right now are not working. Sorry to anyone who wants to stream these right now. For Napster I still have hope - and for Rhapsody AndyG destroyed my hope. Re: [slim] How to find these forums from Logitech these days?
Big companies that haven't quite embraced the web 2.0 scare me. I hate it when I love a product that they kill off due to negligence. The fact that the most vocal users in the squeezebox community are debating when logitech will drop a product is bad news. Even if logitech plans another release, it's pointless now, since they're not nurturing the community they have. Apparently nobody upstairs learned in school that a community with this much dedication is hard to engender. Nurture it while you've got it! I remember a similar issue going down years back with the Yahoo Music community. Yahoo is by far one of the worst web companies. They don't embrace openness, community, or any of the things that make web 2.0 companies popular. After complaining loudly that the community attitude was getting lousy, I wanted real answers, I finally got patched through on the phone with the head of Yahoo Music- which at the time was Ian Rogers, where he fumbled with his words a bit, didn't give me any indication that we should relax and that things were fine, and it appeared to me that the yahoo music department were as much in the dark as the community. They shortly after shut down their music service and now use Rhapsody as their provider. I used to frequent the yahoo music community aside from using their music service, but their mishandling of the community was so business based and ignored the true community leaders, that I was too insulted to go back. I vote we get every logitech exec to read at least one Seth Godin book. I understand they might not care about the slim devices community because it's a small market, but they're not doing themselves any favors with a current asset they own. They'll make their own self-fulfilling prophecy. -- FredFredrickson Get your news and stock updates right here: 'Squeezebox Updates' (http://sb.cnhpa.com)! 'No Audio data found' is the error message, when SqueezePad cannot connect to the stream at all. To be honest: neither me nor my beta testers tested with authentication turned on - it's a very uncommon scenario. Can you temporarily turn authentication off in your server and test again? Re: [slim] Announcing SqueezePad - the first dedicated iPad App to controll your SqueezeBoxen !
The recent update of squeezepad provides a most welcome change that makes it much easier to tap the left hand side letters without inadvertently launching a track. BUT, embedded art is now privileged over cover.jpg files! This is not an improvement for those who have painstakingly inserted high-quality artwork and now have to de-embed all art manually if they want to see the higher resolution (larger), higher quality art. Is there any need to keep the embedded art if it's of lower quality than the folder.jpg ? There are great tools that can remove all embedded art automatically at once (Bliss being one of them - I wrote a blog about it some time ago: http://www.squeezepad.com/2010/10/how-to-upgrade-coverart-to-a-higher-resolution/ ). Don't you think that in the end you'll have less trouble with your music library if you clean up your tags and embedded art. Re: [slim] ANNOUNCE: iPeng for iPad - Your Squeezebox Remote Gets Big
OK, so the problem is probably that iPeng synchronizes it's cache each time you start it up due to overnight changes to the database. Can you see whether the time the progress bar is shown under Albums coincides with the delays? As is true so often: upgrading to 7.6 beta would probably help, it has an optimized albums query that is much, much faster. The problem with the old one is that for some reason it was very inefficient in retrieving artists together with albums which is what iPeng does. 10,000 albums is quite a number. I've seen a library with 40.000 albums sync in around five minutes even on older server versions but that was using a very fast server. -- pippin --- see iPeng, the Squeezebox iPhone remote and *New: iPeng for iPad*, at penguinlovesmusic.com pippin's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=13777 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=82681 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

Came back for an update: Wired everything up, and all the Squeezeboxes worked fine. Went back to wireless, and things acted up again. Tried changing the router's channel to one that wasn't used by any of the local wireless networks, and it seemed to work, but alas: no go. Tried changing channels to random channels: no good. Tried updating to 7.5.2, no good. Went back to 7.5.0, and things have been streaming for the past several days without a problem! So something between 7.5.0 and 7.5.1 went wonky. -- squeezeb squeezeb's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=41869 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=83671 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss
