Re: [slim] SqueezePad vs iPeng vs Squeezecast

2010-12-28 Thread mule

If you wish to have music playback on the iPad you can only choose
between Squeezepad and Squeezecast. Since Squeezepad has music plaback
integrated, Squeezecast is no more an alternative, because Squeezepad
can do everything that Squeezecast can do ... and much more!

If you don't need music playback on the iPad you can choose between
iPenq and Squeezepad. In my eyes the decision between those two apps
depends more on personal taste than on functionality. Have a look at
the gui and the feature list and take your decision.

On either player, go to Settings... Synchronise and choose the other
player

Or you can do it from the Web UI or from iPeng etc - depends what you
are using to control the players.

Re: [slim] Library rescanned automatically?

2010-12-28 Thread Robert57

I too have noticed occasional auto rescans, even though I have turned
scheduled auto rescans off (which I confirmed, and the time if on
would be 10 am), in my settings. I now run SBS 7.5.3 but had the same
experience in 7.5.1. Yesterday I found the SBS rescanning my playlists
two different times unprompted (a few hours apart) in the afternoon.
Both times playlists disappeared as i was searching for them on the web
interface, and then I noticed a rescan (for changes) was in progress. I
have been making some changes to some album tags on some new music in
my iTunes library (Mac OS 10.5.8), but see no reason for a rescan. I
don't use MusicIP. Any ideas on what might be causing these unprompted
rescans? Erland, could SQL or Dynamic Playlists plug-ins (which I have
active but have not been using) somehow trigger this?

Thanks,

Robert

[slim] It's Dead Jim :'(

2010-12-28 Thread kweller

I just noticed that the display on the Squeezebox Classic 3 in the
kitchen was off. Further checking reveals that the unit seems to be
dead - no display, no light on the TOSLink (I'm not sure there would be
if it wasn't playing music), no visibility of the unit on Squeezebox
Server.

Factory reset (+ key while powering on) doesn't do anything and I've
tried a different power supply to no avail.

It hasn't been dropped or even moved so I guess it's just given up the
ghost. It has the Slim Devices logo on the front so we've had it a
while.

Am I correct in thinking the only thing I can do with it is put it in
the bin and see if I want to buy a Touch?

Thanks.

r218 contains an additional slimprotocol fix at the http layer for

Prior to this change SS ignored the different autostart values causing
sync mode(s) to usually be out of sync more than it could have been.
Hopefully this helps as well.

[slim] Recognizing FLAC files outside iTunes library

2010-12-28 Thread gadget*geek

Hi gang.

I'm new to this forum. I just purchased a Squeezebox touch and have a
config. question that I cannot find the solution to.

I have my Squeeebox config'd. to use iTunes integration. This is
working fine.
My music folder is selected as /Users/name/Music/iTunes.

However, I have several Hi-res FLAC files that I would also like to
play.
These obviously cannot be copied into the iTunes library.
How can I get the Squeezbox to see these selections? Do I have to copy
the content MANUALLY (NOT using iTunes) into the iTunes directory? Is
this even do-able?

Thanks in advance for all your help!

Re: [slim] Recognizing FLAC files outside iTunes library

2010-12-28 Thread rayman1701

I've done this with some FLAC's. The easiest way would be to go into
the iTunes folder, then iTunes Music and make a new folder and call it
FLAC or whatever. Then copy the FLAC folder/files into that folder.
Then do a rescan. That's what worked for me. The folder won't mess
with iTunes, but keep a copy of the files outside of iTunes as a
back-up. You might have to do a clear rescan, but I'd try the look
for new and changed scan first, since it's faster. Just give it a try.

That's what the wiki stated (native since 7.3.2) but the AACPlus folder
was missing from the plugins folder and from the File Types menu. In
fact, the only folder in my plugins folder was Inguz .. and I don't
even remember installing that one. I used the old install method
from 7.3.2, restarted SBS and voila.

And all of this and the station I listed has now changed formats. But
I'm sure AAC+ will come in handy in the future.

AAC+ support after 7.3.x is done using faad and not through the AACplus
plugin. IIRC The plugin explicitly is disabled for versions after
7.3.x because it is not needed.

AACplus/AAC+ support comes under AAC support in

[slim] Broken Squeezebox Classic for parts

2010-12-28 Thread DAVIDGR

My original SB3 (with the Slim Devices logo) appears to have died.
Although power reaches the device (the optical out lights up), the
screen stays dark and the device is otherwise unresponsive.

If you're interested in purchasing this for parts (or maybe you can get
it to work) please PM me with what you're willing to pay. I'm also
including the original power cord and white remote control.

I still have my SB Radio, but I'll miss this guy!! Make my loss your
gain!

Re: [slim] best remote?

2010-12-28 Thread bluegaspode

Define 'better'.
Is there anything you don't like with ipeng that could be done better?

For instance a real controller could be considered better, because it
has real keys, which make it easier to find the skip key or volume
controls in the dark.
Not everyone might find this important though ;)

Good point! I like the ipeng but it's a bit slow sometimes and i don't
like how when your building a playlist and you have to hold the button
for play next or add to end, sometimes i'm not sure if it's worked,
sorry i'm not the best at explaining things in type! In the main ipeng
just seems a bit slow, My whole system is wireles, i've been advised to
wire the touch to my router, not sure if this would make the ipeng
quicker.
thanks for the help.

Re: [slim] best remote?

2010-12-28 Thread pippin

Unlikely another controller would be significantly faster if you use the
Touch as a server (it has pretty optimized queries, similar to the ones
in 7.6 so that iPeng doesn't have a performance penalty over the
controller).
The one thing I don't understand is the thing about add and play next
and hold. What exactly are you doing? In iPeng you don't have to hold
a track to do that if you use the play modes (see Help-Quick
Tutorials-Albums and Playlists in iPeng). That's considerably faster
than e.g. The controller where you _do_ have to go through the context
menu for add and play next.

Re: [slim] It's Dead Jim :'(

2010-12-28 Thread DAVIDGR

The exact same thing happened to me. One day my SB3 worked. The next
day it appeared totally dead. Removing the wireless card didn't help
either. I have an Apple Airport Express card which I've used as a
wireless extender. I connected it to my stereo and, by using Apple's
free Remote app, can control iTunes with my iphone and again stream
music to my stereo. It seems to work fine and for the $3.50 cost of
the cable have basically replicated my SB3. (The Airport Express card
lists for over $100, but is widely available on eBay for about $60.)

Re: [slim] Problem connecting to Napster and Shoutcast

2010-12-28 Thread jmsent

Same problem here. Connection to Napster is extremely glitchy. Using
Ipeng, I get all kinds of unexpected response messages, Gateway
timeouts, and intermittent playback. Napster is now pretty much useless
through mysqueezebox.com. Given Logitech's response to problems, I'm
betting this will be fixed by, say, next Christmas.

Re: [slim] Announcing SqueezePad - the first dedicated iPad App to controll your SqueezeBoxen !

2010-12-28 Thread realcodeguy

@bluegaspode - It is by no means a deal breaker if you don't support
portrait, but IMHO, it would add to the app being polished.

When marketing comes over to my desktop and wants my desktop
application to work with large fonts turned on (120dpi vs 96dpi) I do
what I can to support it because there are users out there who use
large fonts in Windows, just like there are users who would prefer
portrait.

Again, for me it's not a deal breaker. I personally have not purchased
a dock just yet, I'm looking at the Altec Landsing dock since it will
rotate to landscape. My intended use other than sitting on my couch
will be to have it sit on the kitchen counter while I'm entertaining to
allow guests to walk up and search for music and add it to the current
playlist like a jukebox. So yes, there are times I'll want to leave the
iPad docked while playing.

I now have three Squeezebox devices (radio, boom and touch) and have
been using your application exclusively. You have definitely nailed
it! Thanks for listening to my suggestions.

Hopefully he will also be able to send all links in the text to iPeng,
which could then be used for further browsing in iPeng in an upcoming
new release with that capability.

[slim] Differences between SBS 7.5.2 and 7.5.3 / 7.6?

2010-12-28 Thread weinstro

Hi,

I'm curious if there's a listing of changes included for the 7.5.3 and
7.6 beta versions, relative to the latest generally available version
of SBS.

I have an SB3 and a Boom. Native decoding of ALAC would be nice...

Thanks,

Ro
