[slim] Good Squeezebox alternative?

2011-10-23 Thread verypsb

Hi,

Does anybody know a good Squeezebox alternative? I'm not really
confident that the Logitech Squeezebox lineup will last much longer.
Important features (to me):

.flac support
hi-res support
Something like SugarCube

I've taken a look at Sonos, but it doesn't tick all the boxes, and the
real problem: It has a library limit of 65.000, which can be as low as
40.000 if you use extensive tags. The Windows Media Player workaround
doesn't work, it can't use .flac files.

Re: [slim] Good Squeezebox alternative?

2011-10-23 Thread Mnyb

For local files it will work as long as your hardware is ok, the system
can be used as it is even if logitech shutter the operation. And the
server is open source.
So you won't need new players untill they break.

However the mysqueezebox.com service depends on logitech :-/

I've found nothing else like it there is no other system that can for
example sync two players with 24/96 content.

The combination of very good UI via iPad apps multiroom and hifi and
radio services at the same time makes the squeezeboxes one of a kind
imo .

2011-10-23 Thread erland

verypsb;664931 Wrote:

While I sometimes share your doubts regarding Squeezebox future I also
have to say that currently the only competitors I can see with a more
clear future is:
- Sonos
- Apple

Apple is focused more at usability and simplicity than high-end audio
so in my mind it means that if you want something that supports high
end audio and you want to be reasonable sure it will work also in the
future, your choices are Squeezebox or Sonos or some new competitor we
aren't aware of yet.

There are of course HiFi manufacturers, but those tend to be focused a
bit too much on the audio quality for my personal taste so they are
missing other features of the system, like smart playlists, usability
and support for premium streaming services.

I think there are several of other competitors out there but none of
them has so far showed a strategy to indicate we can be sure they are
still in the music streaming business two years in the future.

In my mind, the Squeezebox hardware is great so at the moment I don't
really see a need for something else on the hardware side, at least not
as long as you are willing to run a local server on a computer.

The lacking side of the Squeezebox hardware is more related to people
interested in players with built-in speakers or built-in server.

My guess is that when Logitech decides to stop selling Squeezeboxes,
they will need to maintain and support mysqueezebox.com for at least
1-2 years after that, else they will somehow have to handle the fact
that they recently have sold players to customers that no longer works
even if they are still under warranty.

Re: [slim] Good Squeezebox alternative?

2011-10-23 Thread Pascal Hibon

I have been looking too for an SB replacement but haven’t found one yet.
I even bought a Sonos ZP90 several months ago to try the system. Sonos
lacks a lot of basic functionally that SB had since many years. If your
used the SB system then Sonos is not an option. In the mean time I have
sold my ZP90.

Another one I looked at is Cambridge Audio’s NP30
http://www.cambridgeaudio.com/summary.php?PID=604 . This one seems to
come close but due to its price I haven’t tested it yet. The only
downside I see is that it uses uPnP. To be honest I have no experience
with that but I’m afraid that uPnP is not ideal for large music
libraries. Apart from that it still looks like a decent candidate to me
(I should mention that I don’t use synchronised players).

Happy to give away free if you don't mind paying shipping. I'm in the

these have UK mains AC adapters, but replacements for any country will
be easy enough to find

Sound cables not included - but again easy enough to find.

[slim] How I fixed my SB3 when it kept freezing /Rebooting

2011-10-23 Thread jojopuppyfish

This is what I did to get it to work again.

I removed my wifi card from inside the sb3.including the wires
Then I reset the device by holding down the add key on the remote and
putting in the power. This is the factory reset
Next, I did the Xilinx reset by pushing down the 1 button on the
remote and then plugging in the device.

So at this point the device could only use ethernet.
It forced the device where I had to type in a static IP.
Then it appeared to work.
So I readded the wifi card and its working good now.

I can't explain why that fixed it, but would appreciate feedback.

I've read several posts over the years that notes that the wifi card
can become unseated. So maybe just removing the wifi card and reseating
it solved your problem. the xlinx reset often solves lots of problems

[slim] How can I play 24/96 tracks on my PC?

2011-10-23 Thread PasTim

I have been recording LPs at 24/96, converted to flac and tagged on my
Windows 7 PC. Once scanned by SBS I want to play the tracks briefly on
my PC, using the SBS web control interface, to check that I have edited
the track breaks correctly, and set up the (mainly classical music)
tags as I want.

However, it seems there is no software package that will play them on
my PC. Squeezeplay and Softsqueeze won't do 24/96. Squeezeslave
seemed to be the answer (provided I had the SBS file type for flac set
to native), until I realised it was a full tone flat (not slow, just
flat).

I don't need an SB device in the same room as my PC, just software that
will allow me to briefly check all is well with the tracks I have
recorded.

Other software will play the tracks, such as the excellent foobar2000,
but because the treatment of tags is somewhat different I really want
to play them using SBS.

I can temporarily set the file type for flac to be mp3, and use
Squeezeplay (oddly Squeezeslave is still flat using this setting). I
then forget to set it back, and when subsequently listening to my music
properly start thinking there's something wrong with my set-up. I
would, therefore, ideally like a answer that doesn't involve fiddling
with settings.

Is there a solution?

I find the basic Squeezebox setup very reliable. Any issues I have had
have been due to wi-fi which I believe is resolved w router placement
and tags that needed correcting. There are also issues that people run
into due to plugins and enhancements but the basic system just works
for me. There is a learning curve in getting ones library to where a
Squeezerbox can reliabily access it but that I believe would be true w
any streaming music player.

I have 2000+ albums in my library and to me it is a joy to go to my

that CD anyway. I do not want/need/use an Iphone or Ipad. I just use
the basic remote and touchscreen and it works. Iam not a computer geek,

and she only listens to internet radio from stations around the world.
We setup the presets in advance. She pushes the preset, and it simply
works. Admittedly, this is a simple use case

another nontechy friend I suggested the RADIO and he uses it WIFI and
mysb.com and only uses PANDORA. Again, for this simple use case it has
been trouble free.

Which version of Squeezeplay are you using? I've tried many times with

I use MP3tag as well - it does a very good job for me, including the
addition of specialised tags for classical (WORK, MOVEMENT etc).

I does not really matter if it can't play 24/96 the server will
transcode to 24/48 in the background, providing that you don't have
some wierdo file types settings or custom transcoding rules that breaks
this ability.

agree. I'm using SqueezePlay on a Win7(64) Dell laptop and I just
played a 24/96 song with no problem. Not sure which version of
SqueezePlay other than from 7.6 and the info screen on SP shows
7.6.0. I recall that softsqueeze won't do 24/96 but that SqueezePlay
has always been able to handle 24/96. Are you sure these are 24/96 and
not 24/192?

For general playback on my computer, I actually use foobar2000. Plays
about every type of codec there is and handles hirez files well. I use
basic foobar2000 and the facets add-on to create an itunes like
interface (menu scroll on genre/album/artist/track etc.). see pic.

p.s. Also a happy mp3tag user.

Ah ha! That fixes it. Thanks very much.

I was unaware that the server would transcode flac to suit different
players. My flac file type is normally set at pcm (on advice on the
audiophile thread - you can call that weird if you wish!). Squeezeplay
is happy with this setting at CD quality but not 24/96.

Setting the file type to support flac 'native' does the job.

[slim] Syncronising multiple copies of my music

2011-10-23 Thread Nojelc

I have 2 Windows 7 PCs plus a Vortexbox holding my music and running SBS
in 2 locations. I also have my music files backed up on 2 USB drives.

What is the easiest way to keep all the files syncronised? Copying new
music to all the locations is simple enough but I get myself a bit
mixed up when I have an MP3Tag tagging session, and I would like to
have a simple way of replicating my changes across all my copies.

Any suggestions?

good, as it has been years ago that I set mine up. You somehow get into
layout editing mode and then right click on various sections to create
panes, split panes, etc it seems you're on the right track
anyhow...

as much as I love foobar2000, it is almost proud of the fact that many
things about it are not obvious to the new user. Foobar fans will argue
that no, it is really very simple interface right out of the box and
once I became familiar with how it all worked, this is true. Sorta like
mp3tag: extremely powerful tagging program, but actions, etc. were all
lost on me at first.

Thx. Sounds like an improvement.

What's the difference whether or not it does? The software works, the

Hardware issues can be addressed by eBay.

For those not willing to succumb to the apple 'verse, it works.

In your case, the connection times out, i.e. the connection seems to be

Maybe I should increase the timeouts a bit...

BTW: I know, the Download feature could use some improvements.
I'll add some more management features (e.g. restart failed download)
 in the future.

Actually it does not work sometimes on WiFi also. If connection is not
so good and stable.
It stopped the downloads and remove the files without any
notification.
Please check possibility to improve this feature. As minimum some
timeout parameters and
warning dialogs should be added. Thank you.

[slim] Adobe CS5.5 Design Premium DVD Update 3 by m0nkrus | 5.4 GiB

2011-10-23 Thread xuandieu0412

ADOBE CS5.5 DESIGN PREMIUM DVD UPDATE 3 BY M0NKRUS | 5.4 GIB

Software Adobe ® Creative Suite 5.5 Design Premium is a collection of
essential tools for designing engaging content for print, bright
digital magazines, professional e-books, the dynamic of PDF, websites,
standards-based HTML5/CSS3 and interactive content that will appear in
concert on the screens of all sizes.

The contents of the package:
Photoshop CS5.1 Extended

InDesign CS5.5
Dreamweaver CS5.5
Flash Professional CS5.5
Flash Catalyst CS5.5
Fireworks CS5.1
Acrobat X Pro
Bridge CS5
Device Central CS5.5
Media Encoder CS5.5
Additional content

Want to create a project in the shortest possible time? Save time by
dozens of functions represented in the software package Adobe Creative
Suite 5.5 Design Premium, for faster execution of daily business
operations and laborious tasks when using the program Adobe Photoshop,
Illustrator, InDesign and Acrobat. Simplify the execution of such
workflows as review of projects with integrated online services Adobe
CS Live.
Advantages and disadvantages of splitting the distribution into 2xDVD5
Source ESD-distribution was uniform and monolithic. But, since it does
not fit on one DVD5-disc, I had to break it into two parts. Installer
integrity is not violated - such a mechanism is provided Adobe. On the
second disc made Acrobat X Pro and Flash Catalyst CS5.5. This choice is
motivated by the fact that Flash Catalyst - rarely used the program for
lack of Russification, and during the existence of a package Adobe CS5,
users have become accustomed to that Acrobat is a separate distribution.
In general, if you're not going to use Acrobat X Pro and Flash Catalyst
CS5.5 and you do not care about extra. content, you can download only
the first disc. Remove the checkmark when you install the products
found on the second disk, and installation went smoothly without his
involvement.

On the other hand, since sometimes only Acrobat X Pro, and because he
did not want to initiate the installation of the package Adobe CS5.5
Design Premium, I left the opportunity to start installing the program
separately from the whole package. Well, of course, there is a private
treatment for this product. All this is available on the second drive
in the folder .. \ Adobe CS5_5 \ payloads \
AcrobatProfessional10.0-ER.

For those who are dissatisfied with the distribution by Adobe CS5.5
Design Premium and would like to merge it back to give instructions on
how to do it: the contents of the Adobe CS5_5 on the second disk merge
into the same folder on the first replacement of the same name files,
and then on the first drive, open Notepad to edit the file .. \ Adobe
CS5_5 \ payloads \ Setup.xml and remove the string Adobe Design
Premium CS5_5 vol 2. That's it!

System requirements:

At least 1 GB of RAM
9.3 GB free hard disk space for installation, additional free space

storage devices)

hardware acceleration and 16-bit color, 256 MB VRAM
Some GPU-accelerated features require graphics support for Shader Model
3.0 and OpenGL 2.0
To use certain features Adobe Bridge requires a video card that
supports DirectX 9 and memory capacity of at least 64 MB
DVD-ROM drive with dual-layer DVD-ROM drive
Java Runtime Environment 1.5 (32-bit version) or 1.6
Software QuickTime 7.6.2, required for multimedia features
Software Adobe Flash Player 10 for export SWF files

Subscription Edition (optional) on a permanent basis
