Up until today, I didn't know that there is something called TOSLINK

Well, Squeeze Ctrl on Android already supports Chromecast sticks--but
all it does is showing a "now playing" screen on your TV. I'm pretty
shure that more is possible.

I don't think, Chromecast will be abandoned that soon, the first gen was
a big hit. Oh, and the new Nexus Player is an Android TV box that can
act as a Squeezebox by installing SqueezePlayer.

It's a new API with a new feature set and a new streaming format.

remember correctly I had to do this for my original squeezebox back in

understands LMS and how the plugins are programmed. Thanks!

Re: [slim] Chromecast Audio ideal for Squeezebox replacement hardware?

2015-09-29 Thread usc95

I looked at the Rocki but the poor reviews really put me off. Also, the
lack of services and the fact that multi room streaming was still in
beta months after launch led me to not trust the startup that much.
Hopefully with Google's resources they can nail multi-room sync (which
we know is not easy) and this will really be a low cost alternative or
partner with our beloved squeezebox. One cause for concern is what
looks like a lack of FLAC: https://developers.google.com/cast/docs/media
but maybe this for the old Chromecast? It is still early days but I am
hopeful and excited to not have to shell out the big bucks for Sonos.

I only have Deezer - it works fine on squeezeboxes but is useless on the
Rocki as a native app. Have to admit I'm not a great fan of the
smartphone control apps for any of these devices - much prefer to use my

Good to know about the Rocki. Honestly, I am not interested in the
Chromecast as a replacement for the squeezebox hardware but rather as a
way to maintain access to the music services. We are blessed to have
such a talented community developing a number of alternatives for DIY
and easy to use replacements for squeezebox players. I use two hacked
pogoplugs and Ipeng Playback as players in addition to my hardware
squeezeboxes but when mysqueezebox.com goes away I will be disappointed
as I love Slacker and Pandora in addition to Triode's Spotify app that I
suppose is no longer supported in his absence. That is why I am
interested in the Chromecast, just to maintain access to the music
services I love when mysqueezebox.com goes away.

True - the Rocki is rubbish as a stand-alone player. It does work well
as a squeezelite player with upnpbridge.

I also ordered one. Like the fact that it comes with analogue and spdif
output. Main disadvantage over LMS/Squeezelite: no central control app.
You use an app for radio, one for Streaming music (Play Music, Spotify,
Qobuz apparently coming soon) etc.
Also, no idea what kind of DAC they use, and they don't have a compact
"Amp" version like the one I use in the cellar and bedroom (Pi +
HiFiBerry Amp). We'll see how well it works.

Hi Ralphy;
thanks again for your continuing work on this.
I tried "Soundicity" for a while as a Win10 remote tablet app for my
System, but after a while, I reverted back to your jivelite version w/
joggler skin - it just works better for me.

I have 1 question, though:

If I use this App on an actual Joggler, there is a "home" option by long
pressing the upper left icon: Long pressing that icon brings you back to
the home screen, no matter how deep you are in the menues. I use this
feature quite a lot - it is nice.

This feature does not work on your jivelite Version running on Win 8 /
8.1 / 10 using a touchscreen, as the long press conflicts with the
Windows feature, were long press initiates a right click.

-> Is there any way that you could make that feature work - i.e.
shortening the long press timer, so it kicks on before the windows right
click feature kicks in?

Just a tiny question - your app is excellent as it is!
Thanks a lot.

Not true IMO. You can get very nice brushed steel cases for the Raspi.
Besides, the Chromecasts are not really aesthetically pleasing. There's
supposed to be hidden away. You can achieve the same with a Raspi + Vesa
mount.

As for pricing: Yeah, the Chromecasts are a little cheaper. But they
offer less functionality. And you're only getting what Google wants.
They tell you it's an open ecosystem but that couldn't be farther from
the truth. Selected parts are open. Other parts force you to pay Google
with your personal data. Fact is, the Raspi universe is way more open.

Probably won't help, but I have contacted SiriusXM letting them know
that I'll be cancelling my internet streaming service given that it no
longer works with logitech squeezeboxes. I'm sure this is not entirely
their fault, but as pippin has pointed out elsewhere, I'm a siriusXM
paying customer and they still receive revenue. Logitech is no longer
in this business and receive no revenue from me. And we're only lucky
that mysb.com still works (and we have this forum with its wealth of

[slim] Chromecast Audio ideal for Squeezebox replacement hardware?

2015-09-29 Thread sksahai

Chromecast Audio announced today seems exciting, especially if they can
pull off multiroom audio in the future.
My original squeezebox devices are dying slowly, and an attempt to
replace one with an Android TV box with OrangeSqueeze did not go to
well. No elegant Rasberry Pi solutions out there that are aesthetically
pleasing and cheap.

I guess it would take some major reprogramming of the squeezebox server
to recognize the chromecast audio player, or an app.

I am hesitant to let the chromecast audio pull from my SQBX server, as I
have no idea what google collects in terms of data. Not even sure if
sending an audio signal to the cc audio is the same in terms of
privacy.

Thoughts?

Re: [slim] Sirius Dead on the Logitech Devices

2015-09-29 Thread netchord

i'm getting a message on all channels today alerting me to the
forthcoming change. essentially, a guy is reading the email we got last
week. it's on all channels, and seems to be in a continuous loop.

since i'm not prepared to invest in new hardware, it's addio SiriusXM.

Re: [slim] Sirius Dead on the Logitech Devices

2015-09-29 Thread Michael Herger

Could we offer to 'fund' it by community ?

One point which hasn't been mentioned so far is maintenance and running
cost. Not only needs new code to be written, but it has to be run, too.
Some changes may require more processing overhead than others. And if a
solution comes at longer term costs of increased server capacity, then
this can be a killer. There's a reason why we never allowed user
extentions (plugins) on mysb.com.
