Not only safer than downloading from a random APK repository on the web, but presumably the developer will still get paid (yes, I know it's abandonware at this point, but if we still use it I think it's OK we pay). Thanks for the reply. I can't seem to find the Diagnistics or the Control Panel (= Settings?). In any case I don't think this is the issue, since LMS is able to browse and search the Tidal catalogue. That's data from their server on the internet. Even the track lengths display correctly in the playlist, just no sound when playing the tracks. [slim] No sound when playing online streaming services!
Hi! I wonder if someone has experience with this problem and can point me to a solution. (I've tried to search the forum, but either there are no relevant discussions or the search function wasn't able to find them.) I mostly play local files. No problem there. My problem is when I try to stream online content to my squeezeboxen. It rarely works! As in, one in ten times, at best. I have a Tidal account, and I'm able to browse and search Tidal through the LMS interface, but when it comes to actually playing anything, the tracks are added to the current playlist and appear to play normally, but there is no sound! The same happens when I try to play a SomaFM station. On a rare occation I've been able to make it work by first playing a local file, then the online stream, and do this back and forth until it works. This is unreliable (when I do get it to work, I'm never sure exactly what I did to make it work...) and a hassle. I'm using LMS 7.9.0 and the problem happens both with physical Squeezebox units (Receivers) and squeezelite. I'd be very grateful if anyone can help me solve this. Re: [slim] [ANNOUNCE] Squeezeslave: 1.2 released
Hey! Thanks for making and updating Squeezeslave (that goes to everyone involved). I have one problem with Squeezeslave, one which I've had for many years, and thus spanning many versions of Squeezeslave and Logisqueezeboxmediacenterserver. The problem is: Squeezeslave becomes unresponsive to playback and control after being left dormant for a while. Typically if left unused for some hours, certainly almost always when left unused overnight, nothing will play. Sometimes the server will list the squeezeslave player (but it won't play), other times it will be gone from the list of players (I'm not sure about any pattern here). The programme process is still alive on my computer, but I have to kill it and restart. Then playback will start immediately. [slim] How can I have albums sorted chronologically?
I'll take an interest in any device, any plugin, any skin that can do this: Select an artist/band and have their albums sorted chronologically. It seems such a simple feature, yet I can find it nowhere in the Squeezebox universe (that I've tried) nor in many other media player software for that matter. I guess I'm crazy for prefering chronological sorting. I'm currently using the web interface and SqueezeCommander to control my squeezeboxes. Both only give alphabetical sorting of an artist's albums. Erland of plugin fame suggested it might be possible with CustomBrowse and one of the CB WebUI skins, but CustomBrowse (which I have) seems to be made of XML-nightmares and it's not something I think I can manage to tinker with, so I'm looking for other options. -- Kvaks Kvaks's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=21610 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=92315 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

I don't ever use the main menus (they're too slow to scroll through when you have 3000 albums), but I very often use the Browse by Selected feature (by, say, press and hold on a song or an album and pick Artist: ... in the pop up menu). Ok, I see it's possible to navigate the menu with the arrow keys. There are still big usability issues with the new SqueezePlay: It's impossible to see which menu item is selected. I'm moving up and down with the arrow keys, but blindly! It's impossible to go to the current playlist using the keyboard. h + h used to work with the old SqueezePlay, but doesn't anymore. It's impossible (as far as I can tell) to see more info on the tracks. [slim] The new Squeezeplay
So I just upgraded to 7.4 on the server side, and (apparently) had to upgrade Squeezeplay as well for it to work properly with the server. And I have a few questions about the new interface. I used to be able to access the now playing screen by pressing 'h' twice (once to go to the root menu, once more for now playing). Now this no longer works. I have to press 'h' to go to the root menu, then reach for the mouse and click a button in the top right corner. Why? And I used to be able to add music to the current playlist by pressing 'a' when browsing. Now the 'a' key brings up a menu. So I have to press 'a' and then reach for the mouse and choose to add the music from a menu item. Awkward! Why not stick to the old 'a' to add and 'A' to play next? (The latter still works directly for some reason!) Now, I always find it annoying when new versions of software changes up shortcuts and the GUI. It takes a bit of time to get used to, but usually the annoyance passes quickly and I'm often better off with the changes. But this time it appears that Squeezeplay has gone from an interface that could be navigated by keyboard only to an interface that requires both keyboard and mouse. Why??? There's no way this isn't going to be slower to work with. The old Squeezeplay was the fastest way to access the Squeezebox system, in my opinion. Faster than the web interface and MUCH faster than the Duet Controller. -- Kvaks Kvaks's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=21610 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=70535 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss
Re: [slim] Where to begin with multi room design
1. Currently the variable analogue output of the Receiver does not work. So if you go directly to a power amp, you're left with the bottom couple of steps on the digital volume control (and the risk of blowing your speakers if the volume accidentally is played a higher level). I solved this by soldering a $5 potensiometer onto the signal cable between the Receiver and my power amp, and setting it to about 12 o clock (50%). This makes it essentially a passive pre-amp setup, but a lot cheaper than buying an actual pre-amp (passive or active). -- Kvaks Kvaks's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=21610 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=58724 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss

Is there any way to have SC download the podcasts automatically even if I'm not checking the feed manually? -- Kvaks Kvaks's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=21610 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=57752 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss
Re: [slim] Can't find receiver on new network
OP here. I did use the controller to configure for the new network. As I input the WPA key on the controller and pressed , I noticed that the light on the receiver changed from red to something else (blue/green I think), which I took to mean that the receiver had been accepted on the new network (I didn't have the password to the wireless router, so I couldn't confirm this on its control panel). But still the receiver could not be found as a player on either the controller or the SC web interface. I guess I can try a factory setting reset the next time I'm over there to give it another try. I'll take a note of other suggestions as well, so I'll be prepared with other remedies in case that doesn't work. The installation on my own wlan when I first got the Duet worked flawlessly, so I'm hopeful a reset to factory settings will work. -- Kvaks Kvaks's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=21610 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=57135 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss

[slim] Can't find receiver on new network
I bought a SB Duet a couple of weeks ago, and have been very happy with it so far (even if it's not perfect). My old folks have been looking to join the mp3 age, so I brought my Duet and my Squeezecenter-laptop over to their place to demonstrate it. Big fail. Problem was, after setting the Duet up for the new wlan I could not find the receiver to choose as player. The controller would only choose itself as player and the choose player menu was gone. I tried restarting controller, receiver and even laptop. Nothing worked. The receiver, while connected to the network (red light turned blue/green/whatever), was nowhere to be found on either the controller nor in the SC web interface. Any ideas what might have gone wrong? The way I see it, nothing changed except the network on which the units operated, and as far as I could tell there were no problems connecting to the wlan. So why didn't it work? -- Kvaks Kvaks's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=21610 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=57135 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss
Re: [slim] Squeezeslave and last.fm scrobbling
ralphy;374337 Wrote: Try adding -O (capital letter O) to the command line when starting SS, then go to player settings for the squeezeslave instance and try enabling last.fm there. Thanks for the reply. Unfortunately, no luck with your suggestion. Last.fm was already enabled for the Squeezeslave in the SC setting, and the -O parameter seemed to remove -all- scrobbling. Now, not even the currently playing info appears on my last.fm page. -- Kvaks Kvaks's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=21610 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=56965 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss
[slim] Squeezeslave and last.fm scrobbling
First, do questions about squeezeslave go in this forum? Anyway, my problem is that squeezeslave will submit its listening now info to last.fm (it shows on the site), but the tracks aren't submitted for real. That is, only the currently playing track is showing at any time, and is replaced when a new track is being played. None of the tracks are registered for history. -- Kvaks Kvaks's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=21610 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=56965 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss

davep;373849 Wrote: Not sure if this is the case with the official scrobbling plugin but take a look at the Player tab on the Settings page and you should see an item related to LastFM or Scrobbling in the drop down list. Take a look at this page and see if it has a check box to enable that player to scrobble. This may seem like there are too many places you have to set up scroblling but it is done for people like myself with multiple players who do not want them all to scrobble (e.g. kids music, etc). davep Got it. Thanks. I agree that it's nice to be able to choose on a per player basis, but I think it should be enough to select scrobbling on the Controller when connected to a given player. -- Kvaks Kvaks's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=21610 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=56888 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss
[slim] Not scrobbling
I have a problem with my new Duet (same problem with Squeezeplay for that matter): Played tracks aren't being scrobbled at last.fm. I've set up the last.fm account in both Squeezecenter config and Squeezenetwork, and it is shown as enabled both in the Squeezecenter config, Squeezenetwork and on my Controller display. But still the tracks aren't showing up on my last.fm page. I hope there is a way to fix this. I'm kind of anal about scrobbling, I really hate it when a significant number of tracks aren't registered. Some info on my setup: Squeezecenter: Version: 7.3 - 24282 @ Thu Dec 11 14:24:20 PST 2008 Platform Architecture: i686-linux Controller: Type: Squeezebox Controller Player Firmware Version: 7.3 r3476 Receiver: Type: Squeezebox Receiver Player Firmware Version: 55 There are no firewalls on the network. Tracks are being scrobbled as usual when I use media players such as Amarok and Foobar2000. -- Kvaks Kvaks's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=21610 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=56888 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss
[slim] Compilations and album artist tag
I've been thinking about getting a Squeezebox Duet, and so I've tried out the software, SqueezeCenter and the Softsqueeze. On thing I was worried about beforehand, was how SC would deal with albums that feature different artists, such as compilations or jazz albums with guest musicians. What I want, basically, is for the software to use the album artist ID3 tag when browsing by artists. I really, really hate it when compilations clutter up the Artists sections with lots of bands and artists with only a single track. I want all this to sort under Various Artists or whatever is in the album artist tag. And it seems my worries were confirmed. SC does throw all these single tracks into the Artists section as separate entries. Is there any way to make SC use the album artist tag when browsing Artists? (Yes, I know I can browse by album. But that's rarely what I want to do. I want to browse by artist (ie. album artist), but that is more or less useless for me the way is stands now.) -- Kvaks Kvaks's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=21610 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=55878 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss

Thank you! I can't believe I missed that option. Very good, looks like I'll be getting a Squeezebox then (this problem could have been a deal breaker for me). -- Kvaks Kvaks's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=21610 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=55878 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss
