Re: [slim] Nokia N800
Hi John, Thanks for the info. I really appreciate knowing everything you have mentioned about the Nokia N800. You mentioned Select Radio souldn't work because of the Linux system...do you if other software from download.com can be downloaded and instaled on the Nokia N800 as long as its Linux software ? Does it only support an mp3 player or does it also support Windows Media Player and Real Player ? I would be interested to know if it supports watching live TV from its own mp3 player or other players like VTuner, Replay Radio, etc. Do you know if its possible to listen to XM or Sirius ? I believe I read some where it does support Real Rhapsody. Thanks, Dave - JohnSwenson;210644 Wrote: I got a N800 last week, primarily to control slimserver. It works great with the 770 skin, I'm very happy with it. The speed of controling slimserver this way seems almost instantaneous. Its way better than using a laptop which is heavy, cumbersome and gets hot! The N800's battery life is quite good. If doing continuous web surfing switching from page to page you get about 4 hours. If you are continuously on the webbut spending time reading pages etc it can shut down the wifi transmitter and this saves a lot, in this mode its between 6-7 hours. For controlling slimserver where you occasionally pick it up and push some buttons its somewhere between 4-10 days! Web browsing is pretty nice, its a wide enough screen that you can see most web pages without scrolling, but some are pretty small text. About half the time I wind up zooming in a step so I can read the text. The zoom in and out works vey well so don't hesitate to use it. I've wound up carrying this thing with me all over the house, I can read some forums while eating breakfast or do a little research when I wake up in the middle of the night and don't want o get up and go to the big computer. Typing is not so great so I would not recommend writing a novel on it unless you have an external keyboard. It has a stylus keyboard and a thumb board which pops up when you use a finger to point at a text area. This works pretty well for entering text when holding the tablet, but the thumb board covers up the whole screen so you can't see the area of the screen where its going. The stylus board lets you see where you are entering the text. It also has handwriting recognition but its nots so great, I just usually use the stylus or thumb board. As to your question on Select Radio, it will not work on the N800, its designed for pocket PCs which run a completely different operating system. The N800 runs linux. This means there are quite a few third party linux programs ported to it and many coming all the time. Since it has access to the internet it works well for normal internet radio streaming. You can access them just like you would from any other omputer connected to the internet. There is an application called streamtuner specifically designed for keeping lists of internet radio stations you want to listen to. It works pretty well, but I actually prefer using slimserver for internet radio access. The speakers on the N800 are not what you would call audiophile quality, and they don't go very loud. But if you are a couple inches away its not too bad. It does have a UPnP player so you can use it with a UPnP server if you have one. I've not played with the video streaming. It supposedly is terrible with youtube. It does a pretty good job with local avi files etc. Since it has two SD card slots you can put some videos on flash and play them on the device. Currently it can't run softsqueeze, but it should be possible to port squeezeslave. Any more questions I can answer? [slim] Re: Can No Longer Connect
I've got round it by connecting the SB2 by ethernet to my Airport Express, which handles the password for it, and telling it that it is connected to an ethernet network, not a wireless one. However, this still leaves the question of why the SB2 apparently couldn't send the WPA2 password properly itself. For the wireless connection you might want to try to change the password for your wireless connection as I had a similar situation and changing the password solved the problem then. -- NY2006 NY2006's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=6963 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=27622 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss

Not to forget the neighbours to the north. Toronto, Montreal, Ottawa, Calgary, Edmonton, Victoria, etc. Good news RadioTime which is a radio guide for streaming radio stations. you can read more about them at http://www.radiotime.com Anyway all you need to do is be using SlimSever 6.5b and create a user name at RadioTime and your ready to search for radio stations using SlimServer. I'm told RadioTime will be in the next upgrade of Squeezebox Network. -- NY2006 Please visit my website. http://musicradio2005.ecrater.com/ NY2006's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=6963 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=26708 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss
[slim] RadioTime Feature is a Winner!
Updating SlimServer today I noticed the addition of adding my user name of RadioTime at the server settings. This is great has RadioTime has the best radio listings I ever seen. Though some radio stations that support real audio and other formats won't work with Squeezebox it will be great to locate radio stations. I would hope RadioTime can be added in the Squeezebox Network. -- NY2006 NY2006's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=6963 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=26738 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss
[slim] Re: RadioTime Feature is a Winner!
What is RadioTime? Radiotime is a online radio guide to what's on the air... you can check out their website at http://www.radiotime.com If you are using the beta 6.5b1 slimserver you will see RadioTime in the server settings at InternetRadio. Just put in your user name that you get free at RadioTime.com There are many radio stations to explore with Slimserver. It would be great if we could some how save some of these radio stations we find at RadioTime to our Favorites list at Squeezebox Network. Andy, is this possible or will it be possible in the next upgrade ? Have a look here too if you want to sample radiotime but you don't want to use the 6.5beta: Why not ? I'm using SlimServer 6.5 Beta which includes the RadioTime in the Server Settings...Please explain why wouldn't you want to use 6.5 Beta ? -- NY2006 NY2006's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=6963 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=26738 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss
[slim] Re: RadioTime Feature is a Winner!
Yes, the same RadioTime plugin will be available in the next SqueezeNetwork release. That's great news Andy! I read that the only Windows Media Player stations will appear though RadioTime which is good so we don't track stations that can't play...however I am still getting stations that don't play..at first I thought they were real audio, etc that is not supported. Any idea why these stations wouldn't play ? This is the error messages I receive when a station doesn't connect to stream... 1- Can't Connect to Retrieve Playlist 2- No Items Found in Playlist -- NY2006 NY2006's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=6963 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=26738 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss

[slim] Re: Next Release for Beta Slimserver- What New Features ?
Just have to read the changelog that comes with the 6.5 builds. That is the focus for now Looks like 6.5 will be the ideal software to use... 6.5 is due for branching soon, and will then have stable and less stable versions. Just wondering when Slimserver gets upgraded does this also affect the Squeezebox Network upgrades or is Squeezebox Network upgrade a different process ? Just wondering if we might see Imnternet Radio Slim Device Picks upgraded as well ? I know Andy had mentioned it will be upgraded soon but wasn't sure if it would be upgraded at the same time as SlimServer. -- NY2006 NY2006's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=6963 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=26708 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss
[slim] Re: Next Release for Beta Slimserver- What New Features ?
There is an upgrade to SN in order to handle the recently announced there is likely always more radio on the way. This is good as because Slim Devices Picks needs some radio streams fixed...It will be great if other major Cities can be added at Internet Radio...I would like to see Chicago, Florida, Boston, Connecticut, etc. added. -- NY2006 NY2006's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=6963 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=26708 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss

Got my first one in 18 hours! I'm in the east coast it might take a little longer to arrive... I tried to open Live365 from the Slimserver but get a message mot logged in When I try to click on log in nothing happens. I even opened Internet Explorer and login to my Live365. [slim] New Here-a Few Questions Please
I decided to order Squezebox today...looking forward to the many features available...A few questions, I read Squeeze supports Rhapsody as well as other services. I was wondering if Squeezebox will work with Major League Baseball network game audio MLB ? Also is there a general access with Squeeze for various AM-FM radio streams ? I mean can you access say all Chicago radio stations by browsing or searching with Squezebox ? I would like to access many radio stations from Canada. How does Squezebox work with XM Radio ? Last but not least can I use the remote by bedside to search for AM-FM radio streams ? I see...does various programs like vTuner and Replay Radio or Replay Music work with Squeezebox ? I'm trying to understand exactly how Squeezebox works on the server..does my PC need to be on in order for mp3s to access them or does this work though the wireless network ? The reason I decided to order not knowing so many questions is because they offer the 30 days return if not satisfied. -- NY2006 NY2006's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=6963 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=26395 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss
[slim] Re: New Here-a Few Questions Please
The Squeezebox is a server/Internet client, so to access a stream it must first be on the Internet. Most radio stations do have streams now, but not all. Slim Devices has organized some streams by city/region but it's not definitive. Look here: http://www.radio-locator.com/ for a list of all licensed stations in an area. Often there will be a link to their website or you can search for it. Oh I see...i was referring to actual radio stations that do stream..so in other words they can all be access by putting in their URL but cannot be displayed in a certain area say for Montreal radio stations that stream. No plugin for XM yet. Forum member GoCubs has made a Sirius plugin. Obviously you have to be a Sirius subscriber to use it - the plugin uses your user name/password to access Sirius' Internet streams. Sounds like their are lots of upgrades here... Thanks again for the info. -- NY2006 NY2006's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=6963 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=26395 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss
[slim] Re: New Here-a Few Questions Please
SlimServer - Squeezebox is a client - server interface. The Squeezebox is just a dumb (uhh, Slim) client that contains a wireless card and audio hardware. All the functionality is provided by the server, so if you want to play MP3s from your hard drive, yes, your computer must be on. Oh I see...well at least radio streams can be played...one other question how mobile is the Squezebox ? I realize it requires stereo speakers to work but can I move the Squezebox in another room say with Headphones instead of hooking it up to a stereo ? There's an Internet-accessible server, SqueezeNetwork, that will allow you to play Internet streams without having to keep your computer on. Unfortunately, being on the Internet, it can't play *your* MP3s, but they're working on that. SqueezeNetwork is chainging pretty quickly. I read about the SqueezeNetwork sounds very interesting...i tried to setup account with Pandora but it required my Squeezebox name and pin so I thought it was best to wait until I setup my Squeezebox. -- NY2006 NY2006's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=6963 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=26395 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss
[slim] Re: New Here-a Few Questions Please
You know you can download SlimServer right now and use a software emulation of the Squeezebox, Softsqueeze? All for free. Try it out, you'll need to set up SlimServer anyway, and it'll allow you to organize your music collection and get used to the SlimServer and Squeezebox interface. I'm not sure if Softsqueeze will allow you to access Pandora streams but you should be able access SqueezeNetwork from it. You'll need a PIN, I believe Softsqueeze will supply one for you. Thanks I actually already installed Slimserver beta edition... I recently reinstalled Windows XP so don't have much mp3s on my harddrive. I will need to get all media once I connect Squeezebox in a few days. How fast do they ship out ? I selected 2 day delivery so I should get Squeezebox before the end of the week. -- NY2006 NY2006's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=6963 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=26395 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss
