Thanks again. So I got it to work, but tell me if this makes any sense to you for how I finally got it to work. On mysqueezebox.com, both my Pandora and Napster apps were listed as enabled and were checked off for Yes - "Display on the Home Menu"... but still, only Pandora was showing up on my Touch menu, not Napster. While on the Touch, I was inadvertently connected to mysqueezebox.com, and Napster *does* appear when connected to mysb.com, but it doesn't work on mysb.com (and has not for years now) and displays a message that says that Napster needs to be run through LMS using v7.7.6. So I installed LMS 7.7.6, and it made no difference. To see if I could add *any* app at all, I loaded Slacker onto my profile on mysqueezebox.com and it appeared fine on the Touch and, importantly, once I loaded Slacker my Touch display also had the Napster app there, too. Slacker worked and so did Napster now, too. That makes no sense to me at all. But I thank you for your suggestions, as it got me tracking through some various rabbit holes, one of which, inexplicably, worked! Thanks. So I went and tried the reboot, but that didn't change anything. I did a factory reset of the Touch, and that didn't change anything. I removed LMS 8.0.0 and reverted to LMS 7.9.3, and that didn't do anything. There must be something very fundamental that I'm missing. Either Napster is no longer supported by LMS at all, or it's just simply that it's been so many years since I had to change anything with my Touch setup that I've forgotten the procedure for adding Napster (or any other app, for that matter) to the Touch menu. In trying to fix a long-standing problem I've had since early this year (no volume at all with Pandora), I decided to finally upgrade from LMS 7.9.3 to 8.0. I did a complete wipe and deleted config & log files in order to start fresh. Now that I've restarted, I can't get the Napster app to appear in my menu choices on my Touch. And in the "My Apps" section of the LMS web interface, I only have Pandora there. How do I get the Napster app back on both my menu choices on the Touch display and also on the LMS web interface? Since this morning, Napster does not work any more on my Squeezebox Radio-devices, neither through "MySqueezebox" directly nor via local las 7.9 (on max2play-rasperry pi). I can browse my music collection or new recommendations on my Napster account, but any title i choose gets the error "audio stream fehler". As it works ok on the iPad, Napster itself seems to be ok, just not on squeezebox (radio). I am located in germany. Hi there - I have not been able to get Napster to work for over a week (keep getting a message that it is down due to maintenance). Anybody else with the same problem? If it doesn't, then something is still blocking the player from seeing MySB.com. Sure your players are properly registered to the correct MySB.com account? LMS Settings MySB.com is same login info as is your registered players? If there aren't any SSODS versions for the 207+ with newer LMS you could consider running LMS on something with a more open and/or conventional operating system, rather than depending on the NAS manufacturer's support on a very closed system. When you switch back to your local server the Boom (or other device you had on MySB.com) will request a firmware upgrade to match the firmware that came with your server version. If you update your server to current software you should be able to play Napster with your players connected to your server since it appears there's a update in the current firmware that allows Napster to play to a player connected to your local server. I can see in the Squeezebox server that there is a later version available, so I have gone to the Synology downloads page, as I am running Squeezebox Server on a NAS, and downloaded the latest version on the site but it is only version 7.5.3 released on 31/01/11. This clearly isn't the latest version, so what do I do to get the latest? I understand that different libraries are available in Home or My Squeezebox. There have been at least two changes to Napster in the past which would break things for you if you are running an outdated server version: - Napster was bought by Rhapsody. Today's Napster app actually is the Rhapsody app. The original Napster implementation no longer works. - Rhapsody updated the certificates used for music stream encryption at some point in the past. I'm not an expert but I do know that DRMed services like Napster can be tricky. In the case of Napster which I use, I needed to update the firmware on my Squeezeboxes when they changed DRM a while back. That meant a lot of messing around to get the LMS on my NAS up to date. (Firmware is automatically updated when you connect to a server, by the server). You could try connecting to mysqueezebox. com if you aren't already doing so that would update your firmware. I connected to mysqueezebox.com, which automatically updates my firmware every time I connect to it, and I am then able to play Napster on my Boom, but only when connected to mysqueezebox.com. On my Duet I do not know how to connect to mysqueezebox so am unable to get it playing there. Should it be necessary that I have to connect to mysqueezbox in order to play Napster? When I am connected to mysqueezebox.com, however, I am unable to view my own music library stored on the NAS. Is there something wrong with my set up? If your SB server is not current software then when you connect to MySB.com with a player (Boom, Duet, Etc) they will want to upgrade their firmware to the version that MySB.com is using. You are correct. When you connect your Boom to MySB.com you cannot access your local SB server managed library, this is just the way it works. When you switch back to your local server the Boom (or other device you had on MySB.com) will request a firmware upgrade to match the firmware that came with your server version. Hi All I wonder of someone could help please. I have recently installed the Napster app and opened and account. When I select a track to play in Napster, my squeeze box screen displays the song that I have selected and the time bar shows it is playing, however no sound is being played. For me, it stopped working, then it did work - I can't recall what I did in terms of plugins, and setting etc - and now, without changing anything, its stopped. I can access Rhapsody ie. search, playlists, etc etc. But it won't play. It keeps complaining that I've run out of credits on my Rhapsody 25 account. Of course, I haven't run out as my rhapsody / napster account shows my subs running through to next month sometime. I'm having the same problem and have been working on it without success. (Would have been nice if Rhapsody had sent Napster users an email saying they were discarding Napster and what we were to do about it.) I can even log into the Rhapsody/Napster website see my account with all my favourites and purchases but when I come to play any music I am told I need to sign in to play more than 30 secs! (They have changed the user name from what I used to use to my email I discovered before I got even that far.) But no this latter ploy doesn't work with Squeezbox - I have removed Napster app; reinstalled it put in my username that gets me into my account on Rhapsody/Napster web site but message comes up saying I have no free credits on Rhapsody. Hello I'm in the UK and have been on Napster for years. All my beautiful playlists seem to have been destroyed in the switchover - ugh The old Napster player seemed to be able to handle a library consisting of music on your hard-drive plus streamed tracks. Also, my playlists consisted of both types. However, the new Napster 5 (Rhapsody) web player, cannot seem to recognise music stored on my hard drive. So my playlists have become much smaller. I cant find a way to synchronise ... Also, it does not seem possible to install the Napster/Rhapsody player software in the UK. Is it as bad as it seems ? Once the transition to Rhapsody occurs, the Napster Unlimited Plus Mobile plan for £10 per month would be required in order to access your account from your Logitech Squeezebox music players. Hi all, As has been noted previously Napster UK is closing down. I have been a happy customer of the £5 unlimited streaming and 5MP3 package for several years, but this will be no more. I have checked with Napster and the £5 per month Napster Unilimited package will not stream to Squeezeboxes, so my options seem to be: - Stick with Napster, pay £10 a month for 128Kbps streams, lose my MP3s but gain mobile access which I don't need ... but know everything will work (probably) - Move to Spotify with 320KBps streams for £10pm. However, as I understand it only the official plug in will allow different Squeezeboxes to play their own Spotify streams. As I have a combination of players can I use the 3rd part plug in alongside it and have different streams in different rooms that way? Is there any other option people are considering? I'm a bit peeved that I will have to pay double to get less - but wouldn't mind better sound quality along the way ... Here in the US Rhapsody simply credited your new Rhapsody account with whatever balance was remaining on your Napster account. This may be old news, but I have just noticed that following its purchase by Rhapsody Napster will close in the UK, and presumably the rest of Europe in mid March. This appears to be a total shutdown. It looks like we will lose Napster streaming on our Squeezeboxes, Napster libraries and any saved playlists. Not all Napster services will be automatically transferred to Rhapsody, you may have to take out a new subscription to Rhapsody or other streaming service depending on the contract you are on - see here: http://www.napster.co.uk/customerinformation/ The Rhapsody music library is similar and mobile off-line facilities will remain. However it might be worth going to Spotify rather than Rhapsody depending on which suits your needs best. Those of us on the 5for5 deal (five mp3 downloads a month for £5) are going to be terminated. We will lose our 5 mp3s as Rhapsody will not be selling downloads, only offering streaming. What is more our accounts are not going to be automatically transferred, we will have to re-subscribe to a new service - presumably because it will be so different from the old one. That is a real disappointment for me as I have been able to download an album a month for around £1 - £2. Sometimes £0 if the album had fewer than 5 tracks. That effectively meant I was getting my Napster subscription almost for free - as I would have been buying that music in any case. I will have to reconsider which streaming service to go with as an alternative. Any views on how Rhapsody compares to Spotify? This appears to be a total shutdown. It looks like we will lose Napster streaming on our Squeezeboxes, Napster libraries and any saved playlists. The Napster service will be replaced with Rhapsody. They even decided to run it under the old name of Napster. Thus you Napster users might get a new UI, but should still be fine listening to online music. Napster doesn't have a bad reputation over here while Rhapsody has non at best, I would keep the name, too. Hi, i'm using the old Napster Flatrate, where you can Manage up to 3 PCs in the Account Settings. My Problem is, that mysqueezebox.com replaces my other Entries without asking for. I'm using 2 PCs and one Entry with mysqueezebox.com is ok for me. But after Testing with newer Squeezebox-Server Software 7.5.5 and 7.6 there are 3 Entries with mysqueezebox.com! In the last Days my Account was reset several Times by Napster Support, but after activating my 2 PCs and Playing Napster with Squeeze, there are 3 Entries. Hours later there is a second mysqueezebox.com Entry, replacing my first PC. Is playing via mysqueezebox.com using an other Account than playing via Squeezeserver ? Perhaps using a different API ? In this case, how can i prohibit playing with one of them ? I tried to deactivate the Napster Plugin. I have posted this before about Napster and can't believe it's just me. It is just that the selection available to Logitech users on Napster is a fraction of what is available to non-Logitech users. Take a look at Daniel Barenboim for instance - I make it 120 albums on Napster and less than a dozen on Logitech/Napster. Then compare The Rolling Stones or Bruce Springsteen. And even then the range of artists is much less as well. The reliability has improved immeasureably, but the are still API issues. For example, it's no longer possible to Add to Library via the SB interface, and there seem to be problems with certain albums not showing artwork in the SB interface until they are added to the Now Playing queue. I'm in the US, and I can't login (for the last month). I'm using the 7.5.3 server. All it ever says is Failed to Parse. I cannot login on squeezenetwork.com either (although the error is more generic here). When you say you cannot log in to MySB.com do you mean your player or SBS server or your computer using the MySB web UI? Sorry for not being specific. When I try to log into Napster through the interface on my squeezebox (which is connected to a local server) it gives me a Failed to Parse message. When I try to sign in under the My Apps section in mysb.com, it simply gives me a more general error message (Oops! An error has occured. We're working to fix the problem, thank you for your patience). I'm pretty sure mysb.com is set up correctly with my squeezebox - I am able to install apps on the squeezebox through mysb.com even when I'm not on the same network. However, it does show my squeezebox under the Player tab in mysb.com and it says Not Connected. I have tried a full network reboot, as well as a complete reinstall of the squeezebox server. I've also tried installing the squeezebox server on a different computer. I'm not aware of such a basic big issue. The app has been re-written months before the switch, has been re-fined at the beginning of the year. But while I'm the guy working on it, I don't know what support is talking about. Please ask them to give you the exact bug report etc. What might be your issue is that you've been using a trial which has expired, or was not correctly converted (this might have happened a while ago - we've had another case where it was broken for months, but Napster's API didn't block it until recently). But support should be able to sort this out. Until today my library sorted by artist isn't usable, because it lists many albums i have never added to my library. Around Xmas time I switched from Napster to Spotify because of various time-outs and failed to parse issues with Napster (via MySB and local server). I am based in the UK. I am very pleased with the Spotify service, but wondered if other squeezebox users have found Napster improvements following assumed changes in the Napster / MySB linkage which I think from the forums has happened recently? I'm not overly keen on switching back, but have to say the £5 per month saving is attractive, if Napster has improved - I haven't seen many issues crop up in the forum, so guess it has? Both the Plugin and the PC client appear somewhat flaky: Plugin: 1. Whatever I do, I cannot delete albums from My Napster / Albums; deleting them via the PC client doesn't make any difference to what I find here. 2. I have an album in My Napster / Albums for which every track (all 29 of them) shows up in the Albums list. 3. Some albums that the PC client does find cannot be found at all using search from the plugin (however, this may be because they're of the type described in 2. below). PC Client: 1. In My Library, there are 'folders' for 'All Tracks', 'View by Genre', 'View by Artist', but *not* 'View by Album'. This is a pain. Anyone know how to rectify this (if it's possible)? 2. Only after unsuccessfully trying to add found albums several times, to my library (using options), did I find, by clicking on the found album's artwork, that the 'track' was no longer available at the copyright owner's request. Napster has numerous problems with the API for both its web client and for Squeezeboxes. It started last year when Napster updated their API, which as far as I know, is still incomplete. The various album quirks you mention (multiple listings for the same album, no direct way to save an album to your Napster library, etc) are among the more annoying problems. There are various open bugs at bugs.slimdevices.com , as well as threads here. There are some things that Logitech can do, but almost everything really comes down to Napster getting itself sorted out. [slim] Napster - can't see my music library
I'm running 7.5.1 on a QNAP server though I see the same problem if I connect directly to mysqueezebox.com so I don't think it's related to the specific server hardware. Basically, although I can play all the Napster 'radio stations' and their themed playlists, my own music library is empty. I can access my music library on the PC via Napster's own website interface so it is there, it's just that my Squeezeboxes can't see it. When I originally had the problem I could see 5 or 6 artists out of probably 20-30 in the library ... so I cleared and rebuilt the whole Napster library in case there was some sort of corruption. Where are you located? There have been many issues since Nov/Dec with Napster API. Most (but not all) have been resolved in the US, but there are still some big problems elsewhere. Is this a current issue with sb and Napster or is it just me? I use a boom, connected by wi-fi, been using it since it came out. Everything else works 100%. Including playing through my laptop on Napster.com. Any ideas? I've been thinking of switching to save some money but will keep Rhapsody if this is the case.
