Well, actually you can simply go to a regular electronic store like
MediaMarkt or Saturn and buy one there ;-)

Fortunately, yes, at least in Germany. :-) (You need proof of purchase,
though. But he sent me his original invoice.) Might vary in other

Re: [slim] No more Squeezebox Classic in Europe? or just sold out at the moment?

2009-02-12 Thread Moonbase

Yeah … where’s all the »sales ethics« gone? *sigh*

Regarding ethics: I decided to give an eBay offer a try now: Squeezebox
Duet, used 14 days, savings about € 50 from original price, including
original receipt from the buyer, warranty left: 23½ months.

What can I say? Transaction done in 4 days total, like new (even all
the plastic stuff around each and every item), all original parts
included, great packaging, everything worked. Looked more like been
used 14 minutes instead of 14 days. And nice communication in between:
»Your money received«, »sent package today«, »enjoy your buy« and so
on.

I wonder why that guy ever sold his Duet — thanks anyway!

So now I’m a (very!) happy owner of a »brand-new« Duet. -And- haven’t
totally lost my confidence in ethical sales and win-win situations.
Best buy I made for the last 5 years or so.

Certainly not here, or at least only for a very few items.

2009-02-11 Thread Moonbase

FYI: I got my »full refund« today (no interest, of course) — after 70
days.

Seems there are many »teaser offers« out there, no real merchandise.

I should have been warned, since the article appeared almost € 30
cheaper when »found« via price searching engines like billiger.de,
guenstiger.de, ciao.de and the like. When ordering via phone (and
asking for availability!), a much higher price was confirmed — not on
the phone but on the written order confirmation. After complaining,
they told me I must order via the price searching engine, it would give
»special prices« only available online. (Yeah, to lure the customers …)

In my opinion, it somehow invalidates the reliability of the price
searching engines, if anyone can make a »deal« with them to have their
items appear »cheaper« than the competitor’s pricing.

Oh, well. Live and learn :-)

Unfortunately this is a common practice among many online retailers.
One of the tricks to getting you to their site and order from them is
to post very low prices for the searched item, but then insist you
contact them to confirm your order.

When you do call them they try to sell you *extras* like extended
warranties and will even try to sell you accessories that should be
included with the original item. When you don't buy enough extras
then all of a sudden they no longer have the original item in stock.
:)

To keep everyone updated:

Today, after 2 months and 2 days, an email arrived stating the article
'Logitech Squeezebox black' is not available anymore while it is still
being 'advertised'
(at a reduced price) with delivery time between a day and a week on
their site.

*German buyers:* I'd recommend to stay away from -KM Elektronik AG-
when trying to buy a SqueezeBox.

*Logitech officials:* -Please advise an offical source- to buy from in
Germany -who actually delivers- — I really want my SB Classic now!
Terms of payment: Paypal, prepaid to a European bank or giro debit.

Thanks in advance!

Of course one shouldn’t generalize, but I’m still pretty pissed by the
 experiences I already made.

Moonbase, it looks to me like there is a Slimserver supplier business
awaiting someone who wants to be a legitimate dealer in Germany!! If
you want to do the Sony Reader as well, you might have a lovely little
niche.

As I mentioned cooltopia.com supplied me within 24 hours at a very good
price - but I had the unit delivered to my daughter's home in London.
They had no extra-national tab on their country address tab. Maybe it
could be worth a phone call? They don't take the money until the goods
are despatched.

Re: [slim] No more Squeezebox Classic in Europe? or just sold out at the moment?

2009-01-29 Thread simbo

I can't speak for Germany, but in the UK I think it's against the law
(or at least very bad business practice) to take money before
dispatching the goods. Also, if ordered by credit card, you can use the
credit card company as leverage to reach a solution - either having the
goods delivered or the order cancelled. I would suggest it's very much
the fault of the merchant if they're taking money for goods they
haven't dispatched, even if it was LT's fault for a lack of stock in
Europe.

I am in the UK and have bought 4 classics in the last 12 months. Each

[slim] No more Squeezebox Classic in Europe? or just sold out at the moment?

2009-01-19 Thread peterw

A recent German post
(http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=58518) says that the
Classic is no longer offered for sale on Logitech's German site. Seems
true:
http://www.logitech.com/index.cfm/speakers_audio/wireless_music_systems/cl=de,de
Also France
http://www.logitech.com/index.cfm/speakers_audio/wireless_music_systems/cl=fr,fr
Spain:
http://www.logitech.com/index.cfm/speakers_audio/wireless_music_systems/cl=es,es
Great Britain:
http://www.logitech.com/index.cfm/speakers_audio/wireless_music_systems/cl=gb,en

Classic is listed on some other localized sites like Australia
http://www.logitech.com/index.cfm/speakers_audio/wireless_music_systems/cl=au,en

Strangely, Brazil only lists the Classic:
http://www.logitech.com/index.cfm/speakers_audio/wireless_music_systems/cl=br,pt
Even more odd, India offers only Classic and the old (non-Squeezebox)
Wireless DJ system:
http://www.logitech.com/index.cfm/speakers_audio/wireless_music_systems/cl=in,en

Is Logitech Europe simply out of stock?
