So, even though I am still not able to start SlimServer via a comman
prompt, the following build now allows me to play successfully without
SlimServer stopping randomly: SlimServer Version: 6.3.1 - 8425 -
Windows XP - EN - cp1252

I now see the nightly Windows build there. I have downloaded it and
installed. Attempting to launch SlimServer via a command prompt with

same error message:

From the command line, and you get no other messages? It just stops?

BTW, you do have a DNS problem that you should solve. Try running

Yes. That is correct. It just stops.

I ran --d_http_async and it found no DNS servers. I am guessing it is
because I am running this on my work network. However, the Squeezebox
and the computer hosting SlimServer are on the same hub which should
not cause any problems.

Unfortunetly, things are back the same again today. SlimServer
constantly shutting down.

I have attempted to start it via command prompt: c:\program
files\slimserver\server\slim.exe --noupnp. But that does not start
SlimServer. It brings up a list of options of which --noupnp is not
one of them.

upnp is enabled in the router.

Does anyone have any ideas as to what is causing SlimServer to shut
down randomly?

thanks

I think you actually never mentioned the _exact_ slimserver version you're
using. If it's an early 6.3.0 something you might give the 6.3.1 a try.
That --noupnp has been added after the release of 6.3.0

i sometimes find the slim.exe process is not shutdown even though the

be sure to check in task manager.

it sounds like something funky is going on there.

what version of SS are you running? did u flash the firmware upgrade?

I confirmed in Task Manager that Slim.exe indeed shuts down. The
version is 6.3 downloaded today. Yes, the firmware was upgraded.

[slim] Re: A couple questions

2006-07-12 Thread MrSinatra

it may be drastic and pointless, but as i am out of suggestions barring
any more info, i would turn off your computer, SB, and router. unplug,
cut off all power.

i would then turn on, in order:

router (wait till fully booted, then)
computer, ditto, then
SB.

i would then start SS manually, altho its probably best to have XP
start it automatically at boot. i'd first access the SB via browser,
rather then remote.

and then i would try to access an internet stream, and then my local
music, on SB, and see how long it works before i give up on it and turn
to SD for help.

I followed all the instructions. I even uninstalled SlimServer,
deleted the folder under Program Files and removed all registry entries
and then re-installed. I was only able to keep SlimServer on for about
a minute before it shut down. Event Viewer shows the same error I have
listed.

Does anyone know what the Event Viewer error I have listed means?

[slim] Re: A couple questions

2006-07-12 Thread kdf

I sent this earlier via the email gateway, in reponse to yoru post with
the error message. For some reason, it is delayed, so I'll repost
through the forum:

Do you have any upnp devices/services on your network? Can you
temporarily turn off upnp
for those?

alternatively, try running the server from a command prompt:
c:\program files\slimserver\server\slim.exe --noupnp

That should avoid the problem and let you at least connect. I'll have
to leave a real
solution for Andy. If he doesn't pick up on this thread, perhaps
email
[EMAIL PROTECTED] with the event viewer message, or file a bug
report at
http://bugs.slimdevices.com with those details.

thanks
kdf

I am not sure what any upnp devices/services are. How would I check for
that? I will attempt your suggestion of starting it via the command
prompt and post back.

[slim] Re: A couple questions

2006-07-12 Thread MrSinatra

your problem seems to start at least with line 282 of the common.pm file
in SS.

i opened it in wordpad, but i don't know which line it is.

other than that, i'm not much help. this is definitley weird.

and btw, as kdf suggests, that file is in a SS upnp dir.

no idea. some routers seem to support it. you'd have to check the
manual for that.

[slim] Re: A couple questions

upnp is universal plug and play, and it seems to be a networking feature
that microsoft is pushing.

i have an older linksys router, but i have the feature, and its
enabled.

i don't think u need to install it separately in XP, but there are
extra bits u can install, (again, maybe not necessary).

i would try enabling it in your router first, and then try as kdf
suggests, disabling it in the command line.

Now this is really strange. I had meetings and stepped away from my
office for a couple hours. When I came back all is working normally...
