You took a risk buying secondhand to save a few bucks, with all the information known or knowable in advance, and it didn't work out. Bummer. Then you blamed the company and the engineering. Which is sillier? Come on, enough silliness. He bought a perfectly good second hand SB2, which we can derive from the fact that it worked for four months. Fact is that electronics can fail. I had an SB3 fail, thankfully it was still under warranty, but if it had failed after 1 year, I would've been in the same boat. I realize that it is difficult for a small company like SD to provide local service and it's probably unreasonable to scream and shout over something you bought for 100 pounds. In the modern world these things will cost as much to repair. Ever tried repairing a cell phone out of warranty? You normally don't, you get a new one. In spite of my SB3 experience I still consider SD's products to be solid and reliable. My SliMP3 works as well as it did when I bought it in 2002. When you buy SONY where you get repair ? in japan ??? When you buy LOGITECH must you send broken mice to California ??? I have to send my watch to Las Vegas to get it serviced. Mice are so cheap that no one services them, much like the average technical doohicky. The last few Sony items I've owned had to be sent to San Diego when they broke, which was so often that I quit buying Sony items. Las Vegas and San Diego are both in-country for me, but in shipping time and distance they're comparable to a London to Berlin shipment. I don't pay as much in tax, but I'm still without the item for long enough that it's just not worth it, so that I quit wearing the watch last time it stopped working. The point is that getting your Slim Devices items serviced is much like getting anything else serviced -- expensive and annoying, despite the best efforts of the vendor to provide decent service without going bankrupt. An ideal servicing would be to send you an onsite technician with a workbench in his van; short of that, servicing gear is not going to be enjoyable. -- I spent all me tin with the ladies drinking gin, So across the Western ocean I must wander -- traditional ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss

I just sent a package of similar dimensions to an SB2 from NYC to Norway, and yes, UPS and Fedex both quoted well over $100. USPS however did it for $30. I recommend you check out your local post office, they're often a lot cheaper for international deliveries. -- radish radish's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=77 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=30411 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss

How many small companies do you know that sell a $300 electronics product and can afford to put repair facilities all over the world? In reality, any electronics under about $1,000 is pretty much disposable these days -- it costs almost as much to repair as it does to buy new. I've worked in a repair facility and its a fact that no company can provide 100% satisfaction. If they did, they would be bankrupt. So it is cheaper to weigh the option of losing maybe that 5% of the customer versus opening up a facility. I don't blame SB. I have purchased battery packs from the Phillipines, and I KNOW that if it breaks, I will more than likely toss it than to attempt to repair it (www.innovatronix.com). There are niches that we don't have in the US that we have to have imported and I'm sure there are people out there that share the same fate as you have. Regardless of region. But the fact remains is, this is simply the risk you agree to when dealing with an overseas company that does not support internationally.
