Re: [slim] SiriusXM Support Through ickStream

Ickstream forum notes that they are still working on this possibility.
But note that they will have a better chance if SiriusXM subscribers
contact (or recontact) SiriusXM asking them to work with IckStream to
restore streaming to Squeezeboxes. I did this originally and I've just
contacted them again asking them to work with IckStream to restore
streaming. Contact them here:

Sorry if my comment sounded that positive.

What I wanted to say is: SiriusXM doesn't seem to be interested at all
to get Squeezebox support back.
If we ever do a Squeezebox support it will only be because we do it for
other projects and as a side effect it would work on Squeezebox as well,
not as a dedicated, Squeezebox-targeted functionality.
There is a certain chance for the latter to happen but I really can't
quantify it or give a time scale.

I would not count on it.

I give up. I had planned on trying my iPad with the Chromecast option
then realized: (a) the SiriusXM app isn't supported by Chromecast; and
(b) casting from a tab isn't available using the Chrome app on my iPad
(I'd have to use the Chrome browser on my laptop).

I also had no luck with Airplay bridge (the settings page keeps
repeating that the configuration file is missing) and ShairTunes2
(plugin failed to load). Very frustrating.

Chromecast now supports multiroom, so you could connect them to spare
inputs, analog or digital, on whatever you use to switch inputs.

but you're right, this is really just a way to enjoy SXM w/o spending a
great deal of money, and less about squeezeboxen.

I think only the Transporter and the BOOM have audio input connections.
I can't recall as I haven't used input connection on my Transporter for
several years, but is it correct to say that one can't Sync the audio
from the input (e.g., on the Transporter) with other Squeezeboxes around
the house. That is, one is limited to casting to just that one

a Chrome browser tab. you install the chrome cast extension for the
chrome browser, then browse to sirius xm on the web. choose listen
online, and then the station you want. once it begins to playback,
click on the google cast icon in the tab (to the right of the url
address bar), and choose your chromecast audio device from the list.

Thanks, any support we can get is helpful to make Sirius available again
on the Squeezebox.
We are also getting support from other audio systems who lost access to
Sirius and could get it back through ickStream, so hopefully we'll soon
be able to provide access to the service.

The Holiday period and CES coming up has slowed down our work, but we
should make some progress again in January.

I would think that any negotiations with SiriusXM would require non
disclosure until final. So it is highly doubtful that ickStream can
comment here or elsewhere. I'd take no news as potential good news
until we hear otherwise.

Once something is official, if ever, I'm sure that ickstream won't

This is exactly what I did today. Effective November 14, no more Sirius
XM for me. I explained the circumstances of the cancellation and the
representative was sympathetic to my plight. She did indicate that if
there were a change in the status, perhaps I would be hearing from

To me, SiriusXM was worth the subscription fee and I'll miss many of the
stations. I'm hoping the issue will be fixed soon.

Re: [slim] SiriusXM Support Through ickStream

2015-10-30 Thread MRL_SQBX

I knew this was going to take some time so I bought a Grace Primo. Fair
price. Nice unit but not nearly as useful or professional as the Touch
it replaced. It works with SiriusXM and that's why I got it. I'll sell
it in a minute when the ickStream service becomes available and I can
stream SiriusXM from the Touch again. Interested party and provided
that feedback to the lame-o XM rep.

Can anyone give the prognosis for getting the Sirius issue resolved? How
close or how far away are we? If we are close to resolution, will the
premium Sirius XM be accessible?
My subscription renews in November and I will not renew if there's no
hope. Thank you.

You could always just cancel in November and wait awhile if your only
use for SiriusXM is through your Squeezeboxes. You will get inundated
with special offers from SiriusXM to come back at next to nothing for
5-6 months which you can take advantage of if/when this issue gets
resolved.

Re: [slim] SiriusXM Support Through ickStream

2015-10-26 Thread alnames

I may be barking up the wrong tree here, but I was wondering about the
possibility of Ickstream using existing information to host individual
streams?

Currently, I'm using a combination of a third party LMS plugin called
"PlayHLS" which allows LMS to play HLS streams (m3u8 streams) along with
a python script I found on Github that will successfully stream SiriusXM
channels in the HLS format (using an individuals paid subscription login
info). I create a favorite for a particular channel in LMS using the
appropriate URL that links back to the Raspberry Pi I'm using to run the
script.

I'm not a python expert so I haven't been able to fix some of the minor
issues I've encountered (at least not yet), but it works relatively
well. Not too sure of all the potential "TOS" issues, but since I'm a
paying user, I'm not too concerned.

Sorry, but we will have to stick to license agreements.
This would just get us a C and probably also violate DCMA and similar
laws in other countries so it's not an option for us.
SiriusXM is not likely to go after users who hack access to the stream
as long as they pay but they are not going to tolerate someone
exploiting this on a large scale.

Personally I'm not a big fan of Sirius/XM. I think the service is way
over priced with poor sound quality and too many limitations compared to
other Internet based services. I get why some people like it for long
car rides through areas that have poor or no cellular data coverage.
But for me, it just isn't worth it and I long ago cancelled the
subscription for my car.

But my wife loves it. She will not give up her subscription for her car
even though I've shown her how she can have what I think are superior
alternatives through the very nice cell phone integration in her in car.
She is having serious withdrawals and can't understand why I can't just
"fix" our Squeezeboxes so she can continue to listen to it in any room

So here's to hoping you guys can get a deal done with SiriusXM, for the

2015-10-06 Thread tandy1000rl

Just cancelled my subscription to SiriusXM due to incompatibility with
Squeezebox. Advised the agent I would gladly resubscribe if they turned
the legacy streams back on, worked with Logitech to again support our
devices, or worked with the Ickstream people to add new support for our
devices. The agent said she would pass along my feedback to management.
Unfortunately, she advised I was her first cancellation due to
incompatibility with Squeezebox, so I'm skeptical we have the numbers
needed for anyone at XM to notice/care. I would have felt more
optimistic if she'd said, "you're my 15th cancellation for this
today...this is crazy!"

Who would have thought picking the "open" system (Squeezebox) would have
been the losing one for ongoing support compared to the proprietary
system (Sonos). I bet the Slim guys kick themselves watching Sonos
become the 2nd largest speaker manufacturer in the world. They sold a
$100 stock for $10 to a company that drove it down to $0. Sad.

2015-10-05 Thread Eric Seaberg

I've got 2-SB3s, a Duet and a Transporter. I have SiriusXM in my cars
so I can listen to some news, NFL and MLB. My wife has a couple of
Sirius favorite music channels, but the quality of Sirius is HORRIBLE
compared to XM (receiver difference is totally amazing). If I want
music in my car, I've got high quality music streams I subscribe to
(128kAAC - 320kMP3) that I would rather listen to via USB from my
iPhone. Even on the SiriusXM stations that are "all music", there's
always commercials for their own shows. I understand what they're
doing, but I'm paying for MUSIC ONLY.

I have taken time after researching SiriusXM changes (I've been an XM
customer since 2003) to determine I DON'T NEED XM on my LMS system (been
a Slim user since 2006). There are GREAT STREAMING options that offer a
wider variety of music (how many times have you heard the same tunes on
XM) at a much higher bitrate, meaning BETTER for EVERYONE.

You guys are so welcomed to do what you wish with SiriusXM, but I'm
cutting back the plans on my cars and losing all streaming options.
Don't need it, and honestly, I may very well lose it in my cars since I
have more and BETTER SOUNDING options for less money per year.

Happy music hunting...

I agree 100% when it comes to music vis SiriusXM. Nothing there I need
to replace. But my wife (and me to a much lesser extent) really likes
the NPR (mostly) and other news stations on XM. We listen to these in
our cars a lot (we have a weekend trip we often make where FM is not
reliable and the NPR XM shows are good company). And my wife is very
hooked on certain XM NPR shows in the early evening. Since the loss
I've managed to replace most of what she missed at home with streamable
podcasts of the same shows (albeit a day later). The frustrating
thiing to me is that the longer I'm involved in streaming digital music,
the more things seem to move backwards rather than forward. I was just
playing around with the single Sonos unit I bought last year to see how
it worked, and just discovered that among its other limitations it can't
even deal with compilation tags in a FLAC file. It seems very bizarre
that an old technology squeezebox remains cutting edge! It's like the
next models of cars are more like Model T's than 2015 Hondas. Weird.
But the market seems to only care about people that want to stream to
bluetooth speakers from their smart phones. That's fine, but that
doesn't fit my needs.

You raise some good points, but for the time being, SiriusXM has
something that you simply can't get anywhere else ... Howard Stern.
If it wasn't for Stern, we probably would have ditched satellite radio

help the cause, just let me know. My wife and I feel like our Squeezebox
ecosystem suffered a huge blow when we lost SiriusXM. We used to listen
to Howard Stern every single day on both our Boom and one of our Radios.

I am posting my email to SiriusXM and their response. *It makes me

_My_email_(similar_to_another_I_read_here):_

I AM A LONG TIME SIRIUSXM SUBSCRIBER. I LISTEN IN MY CAR AS WELL AS
ONLINE AT HOME. EFFECTIVE 9/30/15, MY LOGITECH SQUEEZEBOX RADIOS AND
DEVICES ARE NO LONGER ABLE TO STREAM SIRIUSXM. VERY DISAPPOINTING TO ME
AND LOGITECH APPEARS TO BE NOT ABLE TO HELP. A 3RD PARTY PROVIDER TO
SQUEEZEBOX, \"ICKSTREAM\" IS INTERESTED IN DEVELOPING A PLUGIN FOR
SQUEEZEBOXES THAT CAN RETURN THIS FUNCTIONALITY. THE COMPANY, ICKSTREAM,
ALREADY HAS SUCCESS IN DOING THIS AND HAS PLUGINS THAT ENABLE
SQUEEZEBOXES TO WORK WITH OTHER STREAMING SERVICES. THEY ARE A HIGH
QUALITY ORGANIZATION. A REVIEW OF THE LOGITECH FORUMS ON THIS STREAMING
ISSUE WILL CONFIRM THAT THERE IS A GREAT DEMAND FOR SUCH A PLUGIN (AND
LOTS OF DISAPPOINTMENT IF SOMETHING CAN'T BE DONE TO RETURN SIRUISXM TO
OUR SQUEEZEBOX PLAYERS).

THANK YOU IN ADVANCE FOR YOUR CONSIDERATION. I APPRECIATE IT.

The SiriusXM response (what I expected, which was essentially equal to
no response at all). The API plugin issue will definitely have to be
escalated to a different person/group than "customer care", who not
unexpectedly just respond with standard "customer care" noninformation.

I'm also VERY interested in supporting this effort. I purchased my SB
Radio specifically to stream SiriusXM, and I'm now unable to do so. My
computer is on 24/7/365, so a plugin solution would work very well for
my situation.

I'll be anxiously following this forum for updates on the situation.
Thanks to all who can contribute their efforts to get past this
roadblock.

Hi - I don't have a Squeezebox, just the successor UE Smart Radio from
Logitech. I'm also quite the noob in discussing this topic. Just for my
information, would the proposed plug-in also work with the UE Smart
Radio? Or is my environment too proprietary/closed for this to help me
restore my SiriusXM service?

I think pippin mentioned that ickStream will require a plugin to run on
a server. You would have to run this server on your own. But you'd first
have to convirt your SmartRadio into a Squeezebox (which can be done
on-device, somewhere in Settings/Advanced).

[slim] SiriusXM Support Through ickStream

2015-10-01 Thread pippin

If you are a SiriusXM user you have probably already noticed that the
service is no longer available on the Squeezebox through
MySqueezebox.com.
At ickStream we would be very interested to offer a replacement
implementation that would work on the Squeezeboxes, too. If you haven't
heard about ickStream as of yet, we are providing an access service for
a number of different streaming services - a bit similar to
MySqueezebox.com - which is available to Squeezebox users as an LMS
plugin.
http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?98467-Pre-Announcement-ickStream-Music-Platform
http://wiki.ickstream.com/index.php/Open_Beta_Squeezebox

For this, we need your help.

First of all, we would like to know whether such an implementation would
be of interest for you as a SiriusXM user.
Specifically, a solution through ickStream would run as a plugin for LMS
so youd have to have a server running to use it. We cant
implement this on MySqueezebox.com or completely replace
MySqueezebox.com as a server to run Squeezeboxes with.

Second, we obviously need SiriusXM to support this, too. Here, it would
probably be helpful if they were aware that there is significant
interest from Squeezebox users in such a solution, otherwise its
not very attractive to them since Logitech doesn't make Squeezeboxes
anymore.
You can reach them through
https://www.siriusxm.com/contactus

We believe that on the technical side we have a very good chance to get
this going but we cant do it alone, SiriusXMs service is a
proprietary offering and they dont have an open API.
So if you want to continue to enjoy Sirius XM on the Squeezebox, contact
them and let them know about ickStream!

I support this. However, before anyone contacts Sirius, a laymen like
myself needs to be able to know what to tell them.

In terms of showing support how about someone start a facebook group and
let's get everyone here to join it.
Or maybe start a petition and get people to sign it.

There is a reason why SiriusXM sent letters to everyone who has a
Logitech device.because obviously alot of people were using it.

[slim] SiriusXM content alternatives

The looming demise of this service on squeezeboxes has me looking for
content alternatives. Here are the things I listen to regularly on

The Blend - mix of pop hits with a nice balance of contemporary and

NPR Now - mostly for Car Talk and similar shows
40s on 4 - just what it says...music from the 1940s

Any suggestions for alternative sources of comparable programming?

[slim] SiriusXM NFL Team Channels issue

2014-09-09 Thread nypatrick

Last night (9/8) I tuned my SB Radio to XM Channel 820 for the NY
Giants-Lions game. I kept getting can't connect message.

I got the same negative results when I tried the Lions broadcast on

I logged onto the SiriusXM web player and the game was there on channels
820 and 810.

Last year, I listened to the NFL channels on my SB with no problems at
all.

Just registered here so I could add myself to the list. Both my

channels above 800.

It's a big pain because the MLB play by play is the main thing I use my

[slim] SiriusXM app issues?

2014-07-21 Thread nypatrick

SiriusXM made a bunch of channel changes recently.

Prior to these changes, my SB Sirius app was receiving all the sports
play-by-play channels. Those channels are now missing.

Is this a Sirius or SB issue? Can it be fixed?

I mentioned this in the mysqueezebox area this morning -- I am seeing
the same thing. Channels 800 and above are now missing. I am assuming it
can and hopefully will be fixed.

Gotcha - I automatically ran off to 'reinstall LMS'.

I uninstalled on mysqueezebox.com, logged out, logged back in and
re-added the app. I'm not sure how much it did since it picked up the
old settings automatically.

However, The Loft is currently playing, so you might well have solved
the problem. Guess we'll see whether this is just a random success or
not.

Thanks greatly for the help.

Re: [slim] SiriusXM now works on Squeezebox radio with lifetime subscriptions

2013-09-25 Thread dwkdnvr

Not directly related to a lifetime subscription, but has anyone else
suddenly started experiencing problems with XM/Sirius streams? What I'm
experiencing is that some streams continue to work fine, while others
that have worked for ages now fail to connect.(Problem: can't connect to
server for channel is the error that displays on my Touch) An example
that doesn't work is The Loft, while Real Jazz, Deep Tracks and Classic
Vinyl all work reliably. I haven't verified this will extensive
testing, but the Loft url has a numeric channel id (8207) while all 3
that work referenced above have alpha channel ids (thevault, realjazz
etc) which strikes me as a bit suspicious. Listening online via the
SiriusXm site/web player works fine, so the streams themselves are still
there.
This is running through the official Logitech app via mysqueezebox.

Loft is working for me. Are you selecting channels via app listing of
channels, or had you previously stored these as favorites? If the
latter, try direct selection. Channel numbers may have changed.

Thanks for the quick response.

I've tried it both ways. Originally it was via a Favorite, but when it
started failing I tried it directly from the SiriusXM plugin and get the
same results. Originally, the failure was somewhat sporadic - generally
failed, but I got it to finally reconnect occasionally. Now it's failing
constantly.

I played around a bit more and most (but not quite all) numeric channels
fail, and all the alpha channels I tried succeeded. The only numeric
channel I found out of the ones I tried that worked was 'Escape'.

What version of LMS are you running? I'm on 7.7.2. Nothing in more
recent versions would seem to suggest anything related to this, but I'll
try upgrading if it might help.

I'm referring to the URL associated with the channel - you can see it
from the web interface when you select the channel from the Sirius App
list. The Loft for example is sirius://8207 whereas Deep Tracks is
sirius://thevault . It seems that most channels have a proper 'name' as
part of the stream URL, but some don't. This may be a holdover from the
merger, but I'm not sure. It may be pure coincidence that the channels
that aren't working for me have numeric identifiers in the URL.

I'll try power cycling everything, although I'm not optimistic on that
front since I think it may have happened since the problem started. I'm
not sure re-installing is in the cards in the near term, unfortunately -
we're in the process of finalizing selling our house and starting to
pack, so time is scarce.

Curiouswhich 3rd party app are you referring to? I'm only aware of
the official app (installed at mysqueezebox.com as well as the SiriusXM

app? (Note, I use the official apps above, and have had no problems

have the lifetime subscription.

Re: [slim] SiriusXM now works on Squeezebox radio with lifetime subscriptions

2013-08-09 Thread jojopuppyfish

I was using the (not so) Sirius Plugin because it had support for
lifetime subscriptions with internet. Sirius had 2 seperate internet
feeds.
If you purchased internet it was something like 128 bit
If you had the lifetime subscription it came with internet but it was 64
bit.
The official sirius app made by logitech only permitted internet
accounts with 128 bit per specific instructions by Sirius. Now that Mel
Karmazan is gone, most likely the new ceo made a change where all
internet feeds are the same.
Because this is the first time I used the offical sirius app from
Logitech where I was able to connect and use it.
