Re: [slim] Used Squeeze devices on eBay -- Buying advice?
After dabbling with squeezeplug on raspberry pi and o2 joggler devices I switched to buying Squeezebox original hardware on eBay. Had problems with network and terrible music syncing, always drifting, on the home brew stuff. Since switching to a system of booms and receivers the syncing is perfect. When weighing up time, effort, quality and reliability of end result I'm happier with the first party hardware. The raspberry pi makes a great LMS however. I purchased a store demo off ebay a couple years back. I've had absolutely no issues with it. Re: [slim] Used Squeeze devices on eBay -- Buying advice?
I purchased a Touch off ebay not too long ago. I think if you find a seller that has good ratings and they say it's in good condition, you're reasonably safe. I've been seeing them in the $200 and up range of late although if/when you find a new one, they're much pricier. Unfortunately, I did have a bad experience buying a used Boom - torn bass seals. Of course, if you're a bit of a tech guy, there are lots of fun options to building something yourself as noted above. Google hifiberry and picoreplayer. Hifiberry will sell you everything you need hardware wise to build a small box that you plug in to your hifi in a similar way to a Touch. Picoreplayer is the software you need to burn onto a micro SD card. You don't need a screen after the initial build - 20 mins - if you control your player with a smartphone app or similar. You do need to run LMS locally - you can't just connect a Pi based player to my squeezebox.com. *Vortexbox LMS 7.8 music on QNAP TS419p via NFS* iThingys/iPeng/Tablets *Living Room* - SB3 -> Onkyo TS606 - > Celestion Ditton F20s - Zone 2 -> Sony TA FE 320 -> Sennheiser RS 130 & B&W P7 *Office* - RPi -> Sony TA FE320 -> Celestion F10s / SB3 -> Onkyo CRN 755 -> Wharfedale Modus Cubes *Dining Room* -> SB Boom *Kitchen* -> UE Radio (upgraded to SB Radio) *Bedroom (Bedside)* - SB Touch -> Topping TP21 -> AKG Headphones *Bedroom (TV)* - Amazon Fire TV (SB Player) -> Topping TP20 -> Wharfedale Modus Cubes d6jg's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=44051 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=104775 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

Please explain A raspi with DAC as simply as possible. What would I need and how do you get internet radio from it. Seconded, maybe with the 7" touchscreen. Re: [slim] Used Squeeze devices on eBay -- Buying advice?
I see the point of buying used Radios or Booms off the bay of E. And I've good experiences doing so. (No experience with ebay.com, though, I've bought on ebay.de.) But a Touch? I'd rather build one myself similar to this: http://shop.max2play.com/en/raspberry-pi-2-bundle-7-display.html?___from_store=de poing's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=63617 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=104775 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

I know what you mean. A raspi with DAC and picoreplayer is a cheaper and in my view safer bet. A used Touch is still a big investment with no guarantee that it will work long term. *Vortexbox LMS 7.8 music on QNAP TS419p via NFS* iThingys/iPeng/Tablets *Living Room* - SB3 -> Onkyo TS606 - > Celestion Ditton F20s - Zone 2 -> Sony TA FE 320 -> Sennheiser RS 130 & B&W P7 *Office* - RPi -> Sony TA FE320 -> Celestion F10s / SB3 -> Onkyo CRN 755 -> Wharfedale Modus Cubes *Dining Room* -> SB Boom *Kitchen* -> UE Radio (upgraded to SB Radio) *Bedroom (Bedside)* - SB Touch -> Topping TP21 -> AKG Headphones *Bedroom (TV)* - Amazon Fire TV (SB Player) -> Topping TP20 -> Wharfedale Modus Cubes d6jg's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=44051 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=104775 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss
[slim] Used Squeeze devices on eBay -- Buying advice?
Hi there, I currently have a Touch, an SB3 and a Radio, and I'm looking to pick up another Touch on eBay (basically, to replace the SB3 since Rhapsody no longer works on SB3's). I'm curious what experiences folks here have had in picking up used Squeeze devices on eBay. Anything to watch out for? My one fear is that while the device may have started up for the seller, there may be something wrong with the network adapter such that it won't connect to my Wifi or my LMS. I'd be curious to hear people's experiences -- both good and bad -- for buying Squeeze devices via eBay. Thanks a lot!
