Re: [slim] Where's Dean?

Just after one month after you leave Logitech it seems to me the
management break with the 7.4 all rules you are standing for since
years. Rush to press new products before christmass on the market with a
instable Update. I do not remember in the past inside the Logitech
forums to see so much concerns and confusion. Maybee you can be
reactivate by Logitech to help?

I hope you and they like to do...

Probably, in part, due to several big things happening all at once:
- New server program including new name and new features
- New SN (MySB) including new features and migration issues
- New product launch (Radio) including new features and hardware
- New product announcement (Touch) including even MORE new features
and hardware

The only thing even remotely close to this scenario (that I am aware
of) was introducing the Duet with it's appropriate SC version.

[slim] Where's Dean?

2009-09-01 Thread dean

Dear friends,

You may have noticed a change in the title under my name. Today marks
my last day as a paid employee of Logitech. I've been working on
Squeezebox (and before that, SLIMP3) since 2001 and it's time to take a
break and slow down a little bit.

It's been an incredible experience, meeting so many unbelievably
passionate and brilliant people in this community, collaborating on some
great products and making music fun again for myself and for a few other
folks. Thank you to everyone!

But you haven't seen the last of me. I started out as a customer,
community member and open source contributor, and while I'm not getting
paid for it anymore, I'm incredibly excited about the new products that
are on the horizon and plan to stay an active member of the community.

I don't have any specific plans for the future, except to finish
cleaning the basement, see if I can remember how to program, and to
spend a bit more time with my family (until they tell me to get out of
the house and find a job!)

So again, thank you, I'll see you around!

All the best,

dean

You guys are killing me, LOL. Don't they get That 70's Show over in
the EU? Half the episodes take place in the basement.

Yes we have basements here in the States and even on the west coast
where allowed. Some places don't make sense for basements like Florida
or on a fault line. The States is a big place with just about every kind
of landscape imaginable. Even the type that could stage a moon landing!

So if the moon landings didn't happen, where did all that money go and
get spent on? We did get more then just Tang out of all the research it
took to land a man on the moon. Also why bother to launch the Saturn 5
if you're just going to fake it? I was there and saw the hug mother
leave the pad.

Back on topic, Dean how about some before and after pictures of the
basement for the folks in the EU? Again best wishes and thanks to Sean
and you for the solution to my Music Listening obsession!

So you are saying that you are really living and behaving the same way
as the people in all the TV shows produced on your side of the pacific ?

Things must be a lot worse than I though over there... ;-)

That's the one thing that I really adore about this: It's so much more
difficult to actually FAKE a moon landing than to just do it: All the
tens of thousands of people you have to silence. Including the Russians.
I bet it's even more expensive. A real masterpiece. And you have to
admit the only thing that must be even more cool than a Saturn V launch
is a Saturn V launch for NOTHING!
Basements, OTOH...

Dean, if you hear any strange noises coming from your basement at night
(baby inexplicably crying, things like that), don't go down there alone.
Especially if the light does not work and you only have a torch with
half flat batteries. The problem will only be compounded if you keep
power tools down there. It never turns out well mate.

Hey Dean, if you make it over here, I'll show you and your family these
remnants of the cold war! They've amazed all visitors we've had from

Re: [slim] Where's Dean?

Dean,

Congrats and best wishes for the future. Thank you for your
contributions to such a great product line. Sean's good bye to the forum
was disappointing, for his failure to publicly acknowledge all the
great co-workers who helped him make it happen. I hope that you pass
along (and you probably already have) your thanks to them in an
appropriate way.

Pippin,
I can tell you from my own travels and far flung acquaintances that
basements seem to be pretty common in the midwestern and eastern US.
They're not common in California, and are usually found only in old(er)
houses. Dean's header says he lives in SF, so for sure there are many
older houses with basements up there. For houses built in the last 60
years (which I believe is the majority of existing structures in the
state), a basement is pretty rare, with the exception of very upscale
structures that purposefully have wine cellars.
