Re: [slim] multi-room amplifier suggestions
I've seen this on EBay http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/New-T-Amp-Class-T-Amp-Class-T-Audio-Amplifier_W0QQitemZ250410292149QQcmdZViewItemQQptZLH_DefaultDomain_0?hash=item250410292149_trksid=p3286.c0.m14_trkparms=72%3A1300|66%3A2|65%3A12|39%3A1|240%3A1318 Not sure what the sound quality is like, it's 'says' it's good of course. It's only for use in a kitchen and an ensuite so the quality isn't too important. Really struggling to find anything else in the UK. I thought the market would be awash with devices like this :( -- sjbuck sjbuck's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=22592 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=62677 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss
[slim] multi-room amplifier suggestions
I have a Duet in our kitchen wired back to the cellar to a bog standard mini hifi. I want to add an extra room/zone for the ensuite upstairs, this is already cabled in back to the cellar. I therefor either need another amp or a new amp capable of amplifying two separate zones individually in stereo. How do you guys do this now, those with multi-room setups? I'd really appreciate any suggestions for a multi-room amp and a very simple/cheap single amp that I can buy for each zone I want to amplify. Ideally they will switch off when not in use automatically as it's a pain to go down in the cellar to switch stuff on/off when needed! Re: [slim] multi-room amplifier suggestions
In the single inexpensive amp department a couple good recommendations are the AudioSource Amp100 and the Sonic Impact T-Amp (both the original and the more recent 2nd generation model). Each is under US$100. The AudioSource has an auto-sensing feature that puts the amp into standby after it hasn't received an audio input signal for about 5 minutes. Standby isn't completely off, and it still draws something like 5w in standby. The Sonic Impact doesn't switch off, but reportedly only draws about 1w when idling. I have the AudioSource in my kitchen system and have been very happy with it. Sorry, but can't help you with the multi-zone amp recommendation. -- aubuti aubuti's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=2074 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=62677 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

sjbuck;417898 Wrote: How do you guys do this now, those with multi-room setups? No multiroom amp. Heck, not even an amp anymore. A Squeezebox in every room connected to active speakers. That way, you can control all your SBs separately or in sync using your controller and active speakers come in every price and quality range these days, from simple PC speaker to high-end monitors that will (IMHO) beat your HiFi amp/preamp setup. No expensive wiring, everything can be turned on/off separately and doesn't have to consume power all the time. -- pippin --- see iPeng, the Squeezebox iPhone remote, at penguinlovesmusic.com pippin's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=13777 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=62677 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss
Re: [slim] multi-room amplifier suggestions
I'd consider looking at a Boom - nice price and you can control it completely from Squeezecenter. I'm currently running 5 receivers and a boom, two of the receivers are connected to book shelf systems and one to a Cambridge Soundworks CD player. The boom is a less expensive option than any of those combo's with sound that's on par with the receiver connected to a book shelf system. Will give the Cambridge an edge on bass, however, it's a much larger box. Cheers Steve IMO there are two ways to travel this road (Probably more but just for sake of discussion, two.) One is to have a multi-room stereo that feeds that same source throughout the house. The second is to have multiple SlimDevices throughout the house that can be sync'd to achieve the same as number one or run separtely to the taste of occupants of the different rooms. Me, I walk the line in between. I have a Niles speaker switch that distributes the source to several of the public rooms of the house, but also have a Boom as an alarm in the bedroom, one planned for the shop, and an SB3 (with the AV amp connected) in the entertainment room. It's great music EVERYWHERE! I know you'll have fun planning and executing either/any solution. Enjoy the music! Re: [slim] multi-room amplifier suggestions
Thanks for all those speedy replies. The situation I have is that the house is already pre-wired back to the cellar with non-active ceiling speakers already installed, so I have to fit a system around that. The best amp I've looked at so far (as recommended above) is the AudioSource Amp100. I like the line-out for input 2 as I can easily loop it into a subwoofer for the kitchen (also auto-off). The issue I have is that I'm in the UK and there doesn't seem to be anywhere here that stocks them. Shipping from the US is around £65 (!) , more than the amp itself. I'll have to have a look at the Sonic Impact T-Amp but I seem to remember seeing this before and again having no luck finding one in the UK.
