I don't think it's that bad. I still see many users-helping-users
threads, but I do agree that the negative posts are more prevalent than
before. Some of that is Logitech's fault -- communications, supply, and
software problems leading to public complaints. Hopefully Logitech will
address the problems and folks will cheer up a bit.

Logitech doesn't order them anymore. Maybe someone can write to the

Why do you say that? It just seems to me that Logitech is wrapping up

You see to see it as some evil Logitech plot. I simply see it as a case of
this forum no longer
serving its purpose. it was to generate a community interest, spawn creative
efforts to expand the

Instead, it's just a hotbed of unsubstantiated rumour (case in point, the
moronic post that now uses this thread to suggest that the forums ARE being
shut down), pissing and moaning and negative attitudes hiding behind some thing
guise of expertise. It certainly became a big part of why I no longer give up
my time and effort. I don't blame anyone on the Logitech side for not taking a
more active role in the forums.

The few that still try to be helpful are attacked for saying the unwanted
thing, or ignored due to a need to rant rather than listen to facts.

With all of that, its not hard to see why it wouldn't be a better business case
to merge the whole thing into one maintenance issue. When the mail gateway

I'd call this the beginning of the end (of the Boom) ... they just need
to push a Radio with two speakers and noone (except stubborn assimilated

I like rumours :D !

Of course all current Booms will go on working like even the oldest

JIT is for suppliers, not sales. As of my experience big companies are
very well aware about their processes for everything that can be
planned ans measured. That usually means until your product is
manufactured.
Add anything uncertain (like sales and customers) and you find a mess.

They just need to follow the link posted in the original post of that
thread. There is a big difference between no further developement and
discontinued. Essentially, there is no longer any internal resource time
that will be allocated to developing the older player UI or firmware. The
limited resources available are clearly going to focus on
squeezeplay-based devices like the Touch, Radio and Controller.

Not scary, and not difficult to grasp.

Is this true? If not you might want to crush the rumor.

I don't think Logitech can crush rumors. Look at the huge thread
started when someone thought he heard some low-level Logitech employee
say that Receiver was discontinued -- even having senior Logitech
Squeezebox staff very clearly say that they're manufacturing more units
wasn't enough to quell the rumors and suspicions. Boom's not
discontinued yet, sounds great, and Logitech has a very good track
record of supporting older gear. If it fits your needs, by all means
buy a Boom and enjoy the music.

They just need to follow the link posted in the original post of that
thread. There is a big difference between no further developement and
discontinued. Essentially, there is no longer any internal resource
 time
that will be allocated to developing the older player UI or firmware.
 The
limited resources available are clearly going to focus on
squeezeplay-based devices like the Touch, Radio and Controller.

Not scary, and not difficult to grasp.

Add in that even if they tossed a million hours into development time,
they are really against the bar on features they can add in the limited
resources of the Boom and other ip3k devices. Just not enough
memory/flash/cpu to do much more.

Any other site linking to a discussion on this forum and considering it

As far as I know Best Buy has been selling Boom's for 150.00. I was in
Ft Wayne last weekend and there were three of them on the shelf. (and I
wish I had 450.00 to buy them) That's all I know for sure. I can
speculate but it would be just that...speculation. I usually leave the
speculation up to others who are more knowledgeable about Logitech
matters. Then we can make fun of them when they are wrong.

In other words..no one knows FOR sure.

Only god.

Get a clue.

BB booms at that price were a credit card decision. (This unrelated to
the previous paragraphs.)

Besides that, since IP3K players do hardly anything on their own
without a server there aren't many things that would have to go into
the player firmware.

Things that won't get implemented now:

- change the WOL behaviour so that you don't have to press the Power
button twice (first to wake up the server, then wait until the server
is up, and then again to actually turn on the player)
- allow entering of a stream URL even when not connected to any server
(probably WONTFIX anyway because they want you to use
mysqueezebox.com)
- allow entering of the actual WPA key (64 hex digits) instead of a
passphrase

and that's about it. I just thought of another one, but it slipped my
mind before I could write it down, so probably it wasn't that
important. ;)
