Tidal HiFi uses a heavy compression scheme, and the Classic is not
really up to the job. Some albums are just too much for it. I had to
reconfigure my setup to let the LMS do the decoding instead of passing
the job to the Classic. There are some threads about it around the
forum.
Have a look at 'this post'

Just to wrap this up, I was able to convert some of the problematic
files. The first batch I converted to 44.1 Hz/mono and those played on
my squeezebox classic, but iPeng on my iPhone did not play those. I
converted the rest to 44.1/stereo and those played on both. Finicky

Re: [slim] Problem playing back audiobooks

2021-06-01 Thread TedBias

All the problematic tracks are listed as "mono" others that work are
"stereo". All the files play normally on my computer.
It does seem like the sped up tracks are playing 2x as fast as they
should.

So... I used VLC and converted some of the problem tracks. The outcome
was: tracks I converted to stereo, but kept the 22.1 Hz setting still
did not play. Tracks that I changed both the mono to stereo and Hz to
44.1 all played fine.

Anyone know a way to batch convert a bunch of tracks from mono to stereo
and 22.1 to 44.1, retains the file names and more importantly tag info?

Thanks you for the help

How fast is it sped up ? Does it playback at twice the speed - this
would imply 1 ch vs 2ch

I'm sure it was temporary. Spotty skips tracks that are not available
(for any reason) and the behavior suggested that there were server
issues that resulted in no file being available to play.

There's nothing in the log. Everything is fine today.

As a follow-up to my own post, here's a puzzling discovery:

A just tested my CD player with the "Video" line-in of the receiver and
with the "CD" line-in, and in both cases the CD player worked with
receiver with no problems whatsoever.

So, there's something about the relationship between the SBs (Touch and
Classic) and the line-in of the receiver.

So there was 'a bug in the flac *windows only* unicode handling'

Thank you. I've downloaded the flac file and can reproduce your issue.

I compiled two windows flac 1.3.2 from git binaries; cygwin (new one
included in lms) and visual studio (which is much slower than the cygwin
version in testing).
Both of these builds fail with the can't open file: error. when using a
UNC file path.

I recompiled the old lms flac 1.2.1 using the same visual studio that I
used to build the 1.3.2 above and it works.

This may take some time to troubleshoot.

As further info, my LMS is running on a Windows 10 machine. No
third-party security software installed... but Windows Firewall/Defender
is enabled.

I didn't have an issue on 7.9.1 or earlier versions.

The cause could by flac, sox not working on user's system - so there is
somehting specific. If flac and sox work on users system the problem
could be transcoding system (e.g socketwrapper) as used to be
susceptible to security s/w which is why checking transcoding would be
helpful.

As a sanity check - make both the flac and sox exe acutally run on your
system.

In a command prompt window try going (i.e. CD) to the
C:\PROGRA~2\SQUEEZ~1\server\Bin\MSWin32-x86-multi-thread\ directory and
then run try running flac.exe and sox.exe - they should eachproduce a
banner message.

I was on 7.9.1 prior to updating to 7.9.2 and had no problems playing
hi-rez files. I no longer have the 7.9.1 flac/sox executable easily
available to test, without reverting my entire install.

Re: [slim] Problem can't open file for:

2018-09-07 Thread Michael Herger

Hi Michael - I recently started receiving this error whenever playing
FLAC files with sample rates greater than 48khz.

The problems started occurring after updating to Logitech Media Server
Version: 7.9.2 - 1536072399 @ Tue Sep 4 17:08:12. No errors in
server.log.

I have worked around this by overwriting the files in C:\Program Files
(x86)\Squeezebox\server\Bin\MSWin32-x86-multi-thread with older versions
(from 2015).

Which particular file? Would going back to 7.9.1 work, too?

We did indeed update flac/sox last week. Hopefully they didn't break
this...

What does server.log say when you try to play such a file? You'll
probably have to enable logging for player.source to get more information.

Hi Ronnie

OK I've got this working again. I updated Max2play it's showing version
Version 2.45 Raspberry PI.

Could I have just updated by going into SQUEEZEBOX SERVER selecting Show
Available versions, selecting Nightly 7.9 and then clicked on Squeezebox
Server start installation

I've also sorted the serverlog thing out. What do you think it was?

Re: [slim] Problem can't open file for:

2018-03-12 Thread Michael Herger

Do I do this after I’ve updated LMS or followed the instruction from the
Max2play link?

That link suggests using a different plugin (which I'm surprised to see
alive, still). I wouldn't do that, as I'm the author of Spotty :-).

Please enable logging for plugin.spotty. Play with it, grab the log file

Sorry, how do I do this?

Go to Settings/Advanced/Logging, find plugin.spotty and set it to INFO.
Apply. Then there's a link to grab the files at the top.

Settings/Advanced/Spotty would tell you which binary it's using, what
version. What does it say?

(and yes, you should try to figure out why that zip file is almost empty).

Also: what does Settings/Advanced/Spotty report wrt. to the helper being
used?

still have the same issue.

Any other suggestions?

This the latest server log. The zip file doesn't contain that much

The zip files from here?
That's odd. But hey, that screenshot actually was very helpful: you seem
to have installed about every plugin with "spotty" in its name. Get rid
of the "Spotty Helper" plugins. Only use Spotty itself. The others force
the use of helpers for FreeBSD or AARCH64 - both of which are not what
you want.

just started getting the following error message.

What does server.log say?

I think the server is returning the MIME type as
application/octet-stream which in default LMS is set up to be mp4 - in
which case it will fail.

If you don't play MP4 you could change the types.conf file and move the
MIME application/octet-stream from mp4 to the mp3 set of MIME types.

I think it is a grey area - application/octet-stream is a generic MIME
type. I've seen it applied to most types of http traffic including txt ,
html, video as well as mp4 and mp3.

Not all MP4 stream use it just like not all MP3 podcast use it - I
suggest make the change and see what breaks.

As a general point you should use the XML feed for the podcasts
http://feeds.serialpodcast.org/serialpodcast?format=xml rather then
generic page just in case server deliver wrong format. In the XML
podcast format - the files are tagged audio/mpeg which in LMS
types.conf is MP3 but I think server still adds MIEM
application/octet-stream so LMS still opts to assume MP4.

FWIW: I thought I had removed that mapping (application/octet-stream -
mp4) back in march (in 7.8+), as it usually points out an incorrectly
configured server. But it could be serving up anything.

Not sure about how exact the AirPlay sync is under iOS 6.
What's difficult, at least for the devices I've tested is adding a
Bluetooth hop. If you connect Bluetooth devices they will drift back and

probably one of the reasons Bluetooth audio generally sounds so bad.

In general delay added by DAC or processor is constant you can tweak
some synk parameter for that

Usually not. iPeng adjusts the sync timing by itself to adapt to known
latencies in the various output devices iOS can use (which can differ
significantly) so you can't use the server-side latency setting. And it
doesn't have an additional tweak setting.
You could tweak the timing for your other players as long as you only us
one device with iPeng.
Nobody needed that so far and it's generally also very, very hard to get
the timing set correctly through manual setup, I believe that would be
too confusing for most users

My experience is that recentlySqueezeLite on Linux syncs pretty well,
too.
On Windows, I'm sure you'll needs to use an ASIO driver to ever get
decent sync, I believe there's a SqueezePlay build that supports it.

With Android sync quality depends on the device on iOS it works on all
devices newer than 4 years or so (anything that supports iOS 5)

Overall, sync quality for software players is improving with Windows
generally being the element with it's non-deterministic driver timing.

It's been awhile since I tried to sync any of my iOS devices. I need to
try again. That could fill a temporary need for me, if it works.

Oh, iOS really works well starting with ARM7. Both iPeng and SqueezePad,
I believe, although I obviously didn't test SqueezePad too much.
With iPeng and under iOS 7 even connecting devices through AirPlay will
give you pretty good sync, at least if the AirPlay device doesn't add a
delay of it's own (iPeng compensates for the AirPlay delay but can't
compensate for what the device itself or amps/DACs/... behind it add).
What's difficult, at least for the devices I've tested is adding a
Bluetooth hop. If you connect Bluetooth devices they will drift back and
forth quite significantly. No idea how Bluetooth handles this but it's
probably one of the reasons Bluetooth audio generally sounds so bad.

2014-06-07 Thread Grumpy Bob

It's quite straightforward to set up, but if you have any difficulty you
can always burn a new image to the SD card...
I boot first with a wired connection to the router, then set up wifi. I
don't use keyboard, mouse or monitor - I use ssh from my laptop to
connect. If you are using a hard drive with the music files you're
likely to need a powered USB hub.
If you're using the Pi only as a player (rather than a server) I'd
recommend looking at piCorePlayer - see the long thread in the
Linux/Unix forum.

From the command prompt, enter the command -setup- and go from there.

I have two WAPs in my house as the front and rear halves of the building
are separated by a thick, solid, brick wall top to bottom (with doors
between of course!) but luckily not in the loft. I have given them
different SSIDs as I could never get the system to work properly with
just the one. The main one is perched in the loft above the wall which
gives a good signal upstairs and on the rear ground floor, but only a
just acceptable signal on the ground floor front. This is enough to
serve the internet to mobile devices at the front of the house but not
reliable enough for devices like the Receiver. The second (actually my
Router) serves just the front of the house and gives an acceptable
signal for the Receiver and internet connected TV in my living room. I
have hidden the SSID of this WAP so all visiting devices connect to
the main one by default.

I have powerline networking to the one static PC on the ground floor
where the extra bandwidth is useful when copying photos and other large
files back and forth to my NAS.

Re: [slim] Problem connecting one Touch to the LMS/Vortexbox

2014-06-02 Thread TheLastMan

True static IP addresses are set on the device, not on the router. These
must not be set with IPs that are inside the router's DHCP pool.

IP addresses attributed to particular devices on the router are
reserved out of the DHCP pool and will not be allocated to any other
device. It is really just a way of making sure a device gets a
particular IP address each time it connects rather than getting the next
one available and it is also a good way of avoiding IP address
conflicts.

Like GetAmped I keep a spreadsheet of all my devices and the IP
addresses, MACs etc. I find it invaluable. It always amazes me when I
actually write it down how many networked devices I have in my house.

However, I differ from him slightly in that I give every fixed /
permanent device on my network a fixed IP address. So that is all PCs,
Squeezeboxes, NAS, routers, WAPs printers etc. Only portable devices
that are likely to be used on several networks get addresses by DHCP,
that is usually just smart phones, tablets and laptops.

Setting static IPs on the Duet (Receiver + Controller) is particularly
painful but I have found their stability massively improved if I do
this. I can happily power them on and off and they always reconnect
faultlessly. In fact if the router or WAP is playing up they are often
the only things that continue to work when everything else is having
problems. Using DHCP, even with reserved addresses, is always a bit hit
and miss with the Duet. The Touch is probably better in this respect.

I would be completely lost if I did not use fixed IPs and my
spreadsheet!

Re: [slim] Problem connecting one Touch to the LMS/Vortexbox

2014-06-01 Thread get.amped

Every person you ask will give you a different bit of advise when it
comes to network configuration. My own network is considerably more
complex than yours, but I have specific requirements related to my
profession. That said, I do advocate following certain basic
principles:

1) Use static (device configured) IP addresses only when necessary. On
my network I do so only for routers, switches, wireless access points
and servers. I maintain a spreadsheet of all my devices with headings of
Device name, Device type, MAC address, IP address, Manufacturer, Model,
Management URL.

2) Reserve IP addresses for other permanent devices. These are all the
computers and other networked devices that you own and will likely
connect to your network on a daily basis.

3) Configure the DHCP scope appropriately. If you only have a couple of
static IP addresses, there is no reason to exclude 100 of them from the
DHCP scope. I configure my primary subnet with 1-50 for static physical
devices as above, 51-150 for DHCP (including reservations), and 151-254
for static virtual devices (primarily VMware virtual devices).

Obviously static IPs are set up with DHCP temporarily disabled on the
router. Would it be the case that, as soon as you try to reconnect the
Touch to the network when DHCP has been re-enabled, that it would
default to a dynamic address?

Knowing next to nothing about how things work, if a static device had
disconnected, and was being reconnected, I'd have expected the router to
'say': OK, I know this MAC address, it should get this static IP
address. That just doesn't seem to be working consistently.

In that case, I'd have thought that once a MAC/static IP address had
been set up in the router, that it wouldn't matter whether you did a
factory reset of the Touch?

(As a 'ps' to this. I was trying to reconect a problem Touch via wifi

powerline ethernet cable right next to it. Popped that in, and it was

No static should stick I have no problems with that , on the other hand
I have edited the files manually on my Touches via SSH rather than using
the setup .
However you should setup the DHCP range on your router to not include
these static adresses so that the DHCP won't dole out an used address to
something else .

What settings did you put in your static setup exactly . the Touch can
also tell you it's current settings somewhere in the network menus .

Is your network really one network , if have done the mistake of setting
up my router to an Adsl modem ( really a router ) in series so that it
DHCP my router rather than my ISP doing it meaning I got two network in
series :) meaning that one of my routers really was a client on the
other router and thus having it's own little network .
There can be completely legit and good reasons to have several networks
but if do this unitentionally you rarely know what's going on .
