SV: [slim] SlimServer 6.0a2 scan problems

2005-03-02 Thread Tore Johnsson
Since you removed 6.0 and installed 5.4xx, could you please tell me if you
had to do something special with the firmware or did you get the firmware
back which belong to 5.4x.

I believe that the firmware is updated in 6.0 from the firmware version in
5.4x. Is this right?

Kind Regards
Tore

Ämne: [slim] SlimServer 6.0a2 scan problems

Hello. I've been trying to get the 6.0 nightlies to work on a Centos (RH
Enterprise) server. The software installs fine, but crashes silently part
way
through scanning my library. The crash occurs about 10 minutes into the
scan.

5.4.X works fine on the same system and library. If I remove the 6.0
version
(rpm -e) and install 5.4.x, it takes about 40 minutes to complete the
initial
scan, and then plays just fine.

My questions:

1. What has changed in the parsing of tags between versions that would cause
this?

2. Can I start the server with different options to change this behavior?

3. What can I do to figure out what files in the library are causing this
crash?

I tried the options suggested in the Installation doc included with the
download, but still get no message at all when the crash occurs. I have
around
23,000 songs, so I really don't relish the idea of manually moving files
around
to figure it out.

Thanks,

Kirk

TO SEAN, KDF ETC. - SqueezeNetwork (was: [slim] SB2 and radio streams)

2005-03-10 Thread Tore Johnsson

I have a few questions which does not involve SqueezeNetworking.

1. Will be there be a difference between the Slimserver for SB1 and SB2 in
future except for the SqueezeNetwork?

2. Will SB2 play for ex Live365 through SPDIF which is not possible with
SB1?

3. Is the internal DAC different to SB1?

3. Will there be any advantage for SB2 to receive internet radio stations.
In that case, in what way (variety, amount, quality etc)

3. I have a friend from Sweden going to Lexington Kentucky 17th mars until
5th April. Is it possible that he could bring a SB2 back to Sweden from a
local dealer? In that case for 230-240 volt and European plugs.

Kind Regards
Tore

Yes! SqueezeNetwork!

We're launching SqueezeNetwork along with Squeezebox2 to provide a
SlimServer-in-the-sky and provide internet radio, alarm clock, RSS
feeds, etc. while your home computer is turned off. You don't even
need SlimServer installed at all. Just plug in, set up your networking
and tune in. Access to Live365, Shoutcast, Radioio, the Internet
Archive and more will be available for browsing.

You'll also be able to add favorite stations, adjust your settings, etc
by logging into the SqueezeNetwork web site. Down the road we hope to
make the SqueezeNetwork the focal point of the community, it's where
our forums, plug-ins, downloads, and wiki will live. We also plan on
adding additional features to allow playlist sharing, music purchasing
and let the community help build a great by adding features, etc.

There's a bit more information available on our web site:

http://www.slimdevices.com/pi_overview.html and
http://www.slimdevices.com/au_press_squeezenetwork.html

SqueezeNetwork will open up as a beta service when Squeezebox2 ships.

Thanks,

dean

SV: [slim] TO SLIM: Shoutcast crashes with SlimServer 6.01

2005-04-11 Thread Tore Johnsson

Thanks for your answer.

I have a private network via a Dlink router 624.
I don´t know what a proxy is but I think using the router instead of a proxy
for a private network
I am connected to Broadband and I run Windows 2000 on 2.6 ghz computer with
512 mb ram.

When I start Shoutcast the player shows after a short while that it lost
connection. Then after a while I starts playing the station (for ex radioio)
I had before going to Shoutcast.
I have marked in Slimserver on the computer, ServerSettings - Debugging the
alternatives d_plugins, d_source and d_source-V and then pressed change.

When player crashes the log file shows no page
Hope this will clarify.

Kind Regards
Tore

You have got answers, but not _the_ answer that would have fixed your
problem.

- I ask again about the proxy (and I'm not talking about your router). Is
this a private network?

- does the server crash or just lock up for a while?

- what do you get in the logs when run using the -d_plugin parameter?

Now again Slimserver 6.01 crashes when I will enter Shoutcast. I have
 marked
several plugins but after the crash the page will say The page can´t be
 shown.

How do you enter the plugin? On the player or the web interface? I've been
working a lot on the ShoutcastBrowser plugin, but this is for 6.1, not
6.0.1. In 6.0.x there's no web interface for it at all - so no page can't
be shown error message possible :-/

Could you please describe in some more details (where do you what exactly)
what you do? I simply don't understand if you're talking about the
settings page, the player's interface or even the plugin's web page (which
should not exist in your version...).

Thanks for your answer

I run Slimserver 6.02

I got the advice earlier on in the discussion to put 2000.

It is not easy for a man who does not know what the different figures means
and stand for (especially not for a non-born Englishman)
There is a lack of information how to make the different adjustments.
I can understand that there is a lot of different conditions for each user.

What version of slimserver are you running? I've been working a lot on

Happy guy, btw: I can't even download 2000 streams as there's one entry

SV: SV: [slim] What has happened with the number of Shoutcaststations?

2005-04-20 Thread Tore Johnsson

I don´t mean that I need a special Swedish manual but the language is a
problem to understand full.

What I mean is that there would be a need for some kind of manual how to set
up and adjust not only Slimserver but also for the different plugins and
what the do.

For ex I search for how to add some more stations and how I do that and what
plugin I should use.
Another thing I wrote about (and got no answer) - how to make some kind of
list for only the stations I want to listen to. As it is now I have to go to
Shoutcast - jazz - inside jazz, instead of just pointing at Inside jazz in a
list.

So one manual to clearify for us amateurs (could be in English)

Kind Regards
Tore Johnsson

Tore

 Thanks for your answer
 I run Slimserver 6.02
I got the advice earlier on in the discussion to put 2000.
It is not easy for a man who does not know what the different figures
 means
and stand for (especially not for a non-born Englishman)

As a swiss german living in the french part of this country and trying to
follow these discussions in english I know that problem...

What exactly don't you understand?

There is a lack of information how to make the different adjustments.

May be I could explain to you and you'd send me the swedish translation
for that explanations to integrate with a future release?

Regards,

Michael

I can understand that there is a lot of different conditions for each
 user.

 Kind Regards
 Tore Johnsson

2005-04-20 Thread Tore Johnsson
I tried to set 2000 and bitrate 0.
Then SB player and web crasched.
I could not reach http://yourserver:9000/log.txt and I don´t know how to
run from the command line (after stopping the service)
Slim.exe --logfile filename

Should this be written in Dos prompt or what?

 What has happened?

winamp development was shut down by AOL a while back. given that winamp
 was
responsible for shoutcast as well, I have seen some speculation that
 shoutcast
would also suffer. Try checking the website (shoutcast.com) to see if
 there
are only 12 jazz stations to be found.

With a little work around that XML::Simple problem I now got 51 stations
in Jazz (out of 2000). I guess there's nothing wrong.

There are several ways to have an easier life:

- save your favourite stream as a playlist (using the web interface or the
Save playlist plugin)
- use Shoutcast's Recently played menu which contains the last few
streams you had selected

(- wait for 6.1 which will contain a favourite plugin: you'll have
access to your 10 favourite streams with a single push of a button (0-9))

Does this help?

I don't understand how you would do this: there are only these ten buttons

can easily work with playlists.

Hi Tore,

Ok, I didn't realize that SlimServer was actually crashing.

There should be a logged event in your Event Viewer under the
Application log that would have details which would probably explain
the issue.

 Hi kdf

I looked in to application log from the date and clock when I got the

For ex there is no name Slim

Notice that I have already deleted version 6.xxx and reverted to 5.4.1.
Can this affect that is no log for this event?

Windows will keep those events around until you delete them, or the log
grows
past the limit in size (quite large). I would guess that if there is
nothing
in the viewer related to Slimserver, then it may not have crashed. instead,
it
may have gotten caught up in a process for longer than you wanted?

I usually suggest running from a command line:

start-run

No, this is most probably a plugin you've activated _after_ the server
start, or simple a false written address. On the browser you'd receive
something like page not found

may have gotten caught up in a process for longer than you wanted? I
have set network - timeout to 300 seconds.

That might be the problem: the timeout defines the time the process should
try to finish its task. During this period other tasks will wait for the
first to finish. If you define 300 seconds, the other tasks will have to
wait up to 5 minutes - which will cause the music to stop, the player to
lose contact to the server and the display to go blank. Maybe it has not
even crashed but would work again after 5 minutes.

Reduce the timeout to 15-30 seconds and try again.

What more should I do to get version 6.xxx running as I have written

As kdf said try running the server from the command line. It would print
error messages. Open a command line and enter
C:\program files\slimserver\server\slim.exe

6.2 will handle ALL slim devices players, even the SliMP3.
SB2 will ask for a firmware update, but older players will connect and play
as

SV: [slim] HELP: Why does 120 gb of musicfiles damage the harddisk?

2006-03-31 Thread Tore Johnsson
Thanks for your all your answer

Unfortunatly and I am quite sure that it does not have to do with the disk.
I have tried several disks and it is in the same way.
I have changed the motherboard and cables.
I have run harddisktests DFT and Seatools and both are reporting the disk is
ok.

When I get E is damaged I run chdisk and several of the files are in the
list.

I have discussed with other people and they say that Windows 2000 can´t
handle disks above 131 gb. There is a patch for Bios from Microsoft with
should fix this problem but it does not seem so.

It seems that I have to install Windows XP which will cause other problems
for me.

Kind Regards

Then I have formatted the disk and copied the full amount 140 gb to the
 disk of 200 gb.

Again I get the this message after approx 105 gb that the disk is
 damaged.

I guess that your disk is damaged :-). This has nothing to do with the
type of files you copy. Try to fill it with some other files - you'll get
the same error message.

Does the disk show as 200 GB before you start copying the music? If
your motherboard is older, it may not support 48 bit hard drive
addressing that is necessary to see drives over 137 GB.

I have 250 GB HDDs in two machines running Win2k. Win2K will not
support HDDs above 131 GB without a small change in the registry. You
can either DL a program to make the change for you from one of the HDD
manufacturers, or you can make the change yourself. In either case, it
won't take more than 30 seconds and your computer will recognize the
full capacity of your drive.

What filetypes do you have? I do eg. have some album cover images - they
are counted in Windows but obviously not as a song. You'd rather do a
search for *.flac *.mp3 and give this number. It will be closer to
slimserver's total.

You have enabled some file type which need further binaries. But do you
really need all those file types? Do you have Monkey encoded files?
Shorten? Musepack? If you don't have these just don't care about missing
binaries. You don't need them.
