Its the last day of Buckeye Regional FIRST robotics competition then as
well that afternoon in Cleveland. More info here:

I wonder how many participants went from Akron and if they aren't
discharged enough, could they share their experience that evening.

Its day 1 of spring break at UofA - I hope a lot of attendees show up.

How late were you planning to host the event?

If you don't mind, could you start another thread since this is no longer

2014-03-15 Thread a l
Thanks for the offer and flexibility Martha!

I believe Devin has tile set aside for the bathroom already but I'm sure if
you're trying to get rid of them they could be put towards another
purpose. Perhaps a nice counter in the kitchen/front room.

I will try to get lumber and masonry screws for the french cleats this
week. If I have time I might even get the studs set up. Properly mounted
each cleat should be able to hold +80 lbs. I'd recommend using angled
supports for anything that sticks out more than 10 inches.

Andrew L

Clean up day is a great idea. If it is going to be 22 March at noon, should
Greater Akron area Robotics Club (GARC) reschedule their first meeting to a
following Saturday? GARC had been planning to hold its kickoff meeting noon
the 22nd.

Thanks Torrie for putting GARC on the calendar for the 22nd. I put the
following under the link provided. Who is our point of contact at the
newspaper?

Greater Akron Robotics Club

The club is open to all with an interest in making machines that compete and do
things.

Parents and responsible adult mentors are welcome join in the fun. The main
goal is to provide High school and junior high students the opportunity learn
skills and tools in a fun way.

This will be accomplished by prototyping, designing and building one or more
robots.

The remote controlled robots will first manipulate objects on the playing field
then shoot ping pong balls into remote targets. The two person robot driving
teams will compete for the highest possible score in three minute rounds.

Club meetings will be two Saturdays a month at noon. The first meeting will be
March 22nd. The meeting locations will at SYN/HAK at 48 Summit St. Akron OH

We provide infrastructure.

Building racks to hold the things people use and hack on is part of our

So yes. We can use it to build out our space as long as it helps us become a

Yeah, great idea. Devin and Craig had some ideas for making a raised floor

On the subject of broken computer crap and the grant, I'm currently
writing a proposal to purchase the parts to refurbish the nicest of the
donated equipment in order to re-donate them to other hackerspaces and
replace old equipment at space. I'll soon be asking NOC for what hardware
our current infrastructure is using so I can compare it to what we have
  in
donated equipment. I'm still about a month away from proposing it though.
just wanted to throw this out there in case anyone was thinking of
  something similar.

I cleaned up all those servers and computers and stuff that were just

I also hung up a bunch of signs stating that the dock area is not
  general
  storage.

Whomever is dropping off all these broken computers, please ask
  noc@before
you do so. We literally have too much broken computer crap in the
  basement.

More on topic with this mail's subject, I'd like to try and organize a
  general
cleanup day this month, perhaps on the 22nd at noon. Some storage
  furniture
will need constructed or otherwise acquired, which I think is a
  wonderful
application of a portion of our $15k grant.
