Re: [ACFUG Discuss] CFEclipse & Read Only Files

2009-09-01 Thread Mike Staver
Wow. I feel DUMB! Thanks for the info, I had just assumed the handy
check box on the warning message itself would eventually work :)

To answer Howard's earlier question "Why not just unlock them all in
Windows Explore and save your sanity?", I have a VSS plug-in installed.
Opening up a read-only file should just open, and if I try to edit, the
plug-in asks if I want to check it out first. I say yes and edit until
I'm done, and check it back in. I prefer not to have to check out the
entire project to avoid that warning message, and now I don't have to!
Thanks again Teddy, sometimes I overlook the obvious.

[ACFUG Discuss] CFEclipse & Read Only Files

2009-09-01 Thread Mike Staver
I have had this problem now for a long time with CFEclipse, and it's
driving me nuts. I'm running Eclipse 3.4 on Windows Vista 64 and
Windows 7 64, and I'm running CFEclipse 1.3.4.200906240705. The issue
I'm having is this: I set up a project that has a bunch of existing
files in it. I know they are read only - I have them tied to a version
control system and they are not checked out yet. I just want to open
them in Eclipse, so using the file navigation menu, I open a file.
Eclipse warns me it's a read only file by saying "You are opening a read
only file. You will not be able to make or save any changes." Duh, I
figured that much out :) And like any annoying warning message with a
freshly installed application, you just live with these warnings - but
be sure to check the "Don't show this warning in the future" option so I
never have to see it again. Well, here's the bug - when I check that
box and hit OK, you'd think the next file I open in the project would
just open without this message. It doesn't. I get that warning message
over and over again. I'm not gonna lie, it annoys the hell out of me. I
do not have this problem with Eclipse 3.3.2 and the most recent version
of CFEclipse for it. It only happens in 3.4 - and just for kicks I blew
away my entire install of Eclipse and got a fresh copy. Same thing
happens. Now I'm convinced it must be some hidden preference file stored
somewhere for my windows account - and keep in mind I hate this bug very
much - so I reinstalled Windows. I then obtained a new version of
Eclipse, grabbed the latest CFEclipse and tried it again. Same problem.

PLEASE tell me somebody else has this issue and has resolved it and can
share with me what I need to do to make it go away. Google didn't show
me anything useful, and I've tried many times to find answers on various
Wikis, etc.

Re: [ACFUG Discuss] CFEclipse install causes Eclipse Updates to no longer work

2008-01-24 Thread Forrest C. Gilmore
Thanks, Charlie. I had previously checked for information, but this is
one site I did not see.
I did find where others have encountered various versions of this
update issue.

I worked on the problem and finally concluded that the problem was that
eclipse.org was in the search list,
and that site does not have the XML file that's needed. Removing it from
my search list corrected the issue.

Subject: [ACFUG Discuss] CFEclipse install causes Eclipse Updates to no
longer work

There has been a lot of discussion in recent months touting Eclipse and
CFEclipse, so I decided to give this a try. I installed the latest JDK and
the latest version of Eclipse.
I ran through a tutorial to verify that Eclipse works fine.

Then I used the Eclipse Update option to download the latest CFEclipse
package.
That went smoothly and CFEclipse works fine.

But now when I try to use Eclipse Update to search for and download
plug-ins, I get a network connection error. It seems that the CFEclipse
install has somehow messed up my firewall settings (Norton 360), or
something else that prevents the update from connecting.

Has anyone else encountered this problem? Anyone have suggestions?

different set for another. After you are working in Eclipse in a chosen
workspace, projects can be stored anywhere on your PC or network for that
matter. Meta-data about the project is stored in the current workspace, but
the actual files can be anywhere. For Flex, Java, or J2EE projects I always
keep the projects in my workspace. For CF only projects, I keep the project
in the webroot. But I never store a workspace in the webroot.

Seth,

I'm not sure how you can re-set the default workspace -- which is the
default space for saving projects. There's no obvious mechanism or
documentation, and this question has been asked in a number of forums. But
it's simple enough, when creating a project, to point it wherever you want.
Eclipse will still keep track of it, and keep it in the Navigator tab. I
often create the project in a space on my dev server, which is also the
actual web space.

I've been using Eclipse for probably a year and a half, and I still feel
overwhelmed sometimes. It's the nature of the plug-in architecture it's
built on. I just bang away, knowing there's all sorts of functionality I
just don't even know about.

Jeff,

 Aside from the cost issue can anyone give me some input on the pros and
> cons of Eclipse vs. DW/Homesite?
>

I think they'll become pretty obvious as you continue to use Eclipse. It's
going to feel unfamiliar and clunky for a long, long time. But I think
you'll find it's worth the trouble.

Homesite's dead, as far as Adobe's concerned. They "support" CFEclipse
(sorta) and obviously use Eclipse for FlexBuilder. Actually, that's one good
reason to get used to Eclipse. You'll probably want to start working with
Flex, too.

And that illustrates why Eclipse is a good tool: folks can, and do,
constantly build new tools as plug-ins on top of it. You'll find yourself
adding Javascript editors and XML editors and database tools that you
prefer.

Mark Drew, the CFEclipse guy, has already released CF8 syntax libraries
for CFEclipse. And Adobe provides RDS plug-ins, if you've gotten used to
them in Homesite.

If you need to build visually, you'll use Dreamweaver. If not, you'll use
Eclipse. I go back and forth all the time.

And the more you separate presentation from the model, the more your
individual files are going to be either all code, or all display with a
little logic thrown in. So using both comes pretty naturally.

There's a CFEclipse mailing list, by the way, although there's not a lot
of activity on it. But if you ask questions there, people will help. And
you'll find Eclipse-related conversations on CF-Talk, too.

Good luck with it. You'll like it -- eventually.

Re: [ACFUG Discuss] CFEclipse question - default project

2007-06-26 Thread Jeff Howard

I just started with cfeclipse myself this past Friday and after having to
take the day off yesterday this is only my 2nd using Eclipse. It prompted
me to default project location when I started Eclipse and I set it there.
I'm sure there is a way to do it in settings as well.

Aside from the cost issue can anyone give me some input on the pros and cons
of Eclipse vs. DW/Homesite?

I'm obviously still on the learning curve side of things as I've had about 8
hours of using Eclipse so far vs 2 years of Homesite and 1 year of DW.

Thanks.

Re: [ACFUG Discuss] cfeclipse crashing?

2007-04-04 Thread Cheyenne Throckmorton

So after a bit of frustration and finally thinking I got eclipse running
again, I ran into this problem again. Fortunately, thanks to some of your
comments, I think I've isolated the problem to a degree. I didn't realize
that perhaps some of the code on the page could in effect take eclipse out,
but it does make sense kind of now.

Here is the code that seems to "freeze" not necessessarily crash eclipse.
If I leave it for 4-5 minutes the hour glass dissappears and I can work
again, that is until I start typing variable names back into the below code
that calls a stored procedure in I'm thinking maybe this is an
old or non-standard way to do so, but its the way most of our legacy stored
procs are called.

 {call gsp_Author_ins(
  @authorTypeID = 1,
  @salutation = '',
  @firstname = '#qAuthor.sname#',
  @mi = '',
  @lastname = '#qAuthor.sname#',
  @organization = '#qAuthor.sInstitution#',
  @jobTitle = '',
  @address1 = '#qAuthor.sAddressLine1#',
  @address2 ='#qAuthor.sAddressLine2#',
  @city = '#qAuthor.sCity#',
  @state = '#qAuthor.sState#',
  @postcode = '#qAuthor.sPostalCode#',
  @countryid = #qCountry.iCountryID#,
  @email = '#qAuthor.sEmailAddress#',
  @phone = '#qAuthor.sVoicePhone#',
  @fax = '#qAuthor.sFaxPhone#',
  @mobile = '#qAuthor.sVoicePhone#',
  @biographyFileName = 'not required',
  @requestor_personid = 1694)}

Typing into the string fields seem to be where eclipse dies. Again, I'm
still new to eclipse so maybe there is a setting somewhere i need to tick,
or maybe this is a known problem. Just thought I'd send this out there to
help anyone else that may run into this problem.

I remember something like this happening to me last month with a specific

If I recall correctly, all I had to do is type "http://trac.cfeclipse.org/cfeclipse/ticket/263).

Before I did have the Java perspective incidently on before, but switched
to just have cfeclipse perspective on with still the same result. Turning
on the Show Heap Status option, I do have something in the lower right-hand

I'm going to look into reinstalling the JRE altogether next and see if

Re: [ACFUG Discuss] cfeclipse crashing?

2007-03-23 Thread Cheyenne Throckmorton

By crashing I mean I'll type a couple lines of code, then it just stops
responding and gives an hourglass until I stop it. the javaw.exe process
also jumps to about 50% of my CPU.

Before I did have the Java perspective incidently on before, but switched to
just have cfeclipse perspective on with still the same result. Turning on
the Show Heap Status option, I do have something in the lower right-hand
corner that says "14M of 40M". Is that the heap?

I'm going to look into reinstalling the JRE altogether next and see if that
helps.

Re: [ACFUG Discuss] cfeclipse crashing?

I went through some major crashing issues for awhile, but of late things
seem fairly stable. I had my issues with running eclipse with the

RE: [ACFUG Discuss] cfeclipse crashing?

2007-03-23 Thread John Mason
Each should have their own private jvm, but perhaps one of them is a public
(not private) and conflicting with the other program. Since this is a new
eclipse installation and is the one running. I would remove it. Then do a
reinstall and see if it stops. Then load in cfeclipse and test it, etc.

Did you upgrade your JRE at that time?

One suggestion has been to completely uninstall your Java JRE and then get a
fresh non-upgrade version.

[ACFUG Discuss] CFEclipse Update

2007-03-07 Thread Teddy Payne

CFEclipse recently had a release from 1.3 to 1.3.1.1 to 1.3.1.2

As fixes are submitted and found, Mark Drew has provided a new link for
those who do not have direct access to the Eclipse update.

You can perform manual update from the following:
http://www.cfeclipse.org/update/

You can add the updates from an archived size or via a local site.

The normal update process is still intact.

You can always find out about the cfeclipse news from:

What's good about Aptana: being able to use "Outline" view for css and

Aptana without having to use the CFEclipse + Flex plugin hack is
another big plus.

CFEclipse 1.3 works on 3.1.2, 3.2.1 and 3.3M4 without any issues.
