Yes, like Tim just announced in the other thread.

I believe this case simply may not have been originally considered,
analogously to the same bug in LDAP:

Re: [dspace-tech] GeoLite Database File Connot be downloaded

Yes, the data provider has changed their terms due to some newly approved
Californian privacy law taking effect immediately.
You need to register and set up downloading the data outside of DSpace. A
patch for DSpace will be included in the next update, but you still need to
register.

Re: [dspace-tech] dspace vs. tomcat user account

In order to run without issues, tomcat has to run as the user who owns
the dspace files, whatever the user is named.
What is it specifically that makes a difference to you in how the user is named?

Re: [dspace-tech] dspace vs. tomcat user account

2018-09-19 Thread helix84
As you noticed, if you're using packaged tomcat, it's easier to use
the tomcat user created by the tomcat package as the owner of all
dspace files. However, you don't have to sudo every single command.
You can either:

A) run a shell as the tomcat user like this:
sudo -u tomcat -i

B) or you can allow login for that user by setting its password:
sudo passwd tomcat
and making sure the user has a valid shell:
sudo usermod --shell /bin/bash tomcat

In the later case you would log in normally as the tomcat user with
the password you set.

Re: [dspace-tech] Re: DSpace 6.3 OAI indexing is failing

2018-09-07 Thread helix84
Also ran into this recently during full oai import. Didn't have time
to analyze it completely but oai indexer ran aground (same NPE) on
items with resourcepolicies set for a specific eperson and thus had a
null group. That should be a valid option, though. I didn't check
whether oai indexer has always had a problem with it or it's a
regression. Definitely worth filing an issue.

SELECT * FROM resourcepolicy WHERE epersongroup_id IS NULL AND
resource_id IS NOT NULL;

SELECT resource_id, dspace_object
FROM resourcepolicy
WHERE epersongroup_id IS NULL
AND resource_id IS NOT NULL
AND resource_type_id=2
GROUP BY 1, 2;

Re: [dspace-tech] Solr query for submitted items?

2018-08-15 Thread helix84
Sorry, I can't think of a reason why dc.date.accessioned_dt would be
missing from your Solr search core if you have dc.date.accessioned
values in the metadata.

Dropping and restoring the DB will not help with this issue - it does
not change DB contents.

If the values are in the metadata, the problem must be either with the
schema of the Solr search core (which you sent me and seems to be
correct) or the way the records are loaded into the Solr search core.

One last thing you can try is to
1) stop tomcat
2) manually delete the Solr seach core data [1]
3) start tomcat
4) run index-discovery -b

Re: [dspace-tech] Solr query for submitted items?

2018-08-14 Thread helix84
It seems that you're using the schema from DSpace unmodified, the only
change being the default query operator from OR to AND. This schema
creates the *_dt indexes for you from date fields. If, for some
reason, they are not created, try a full reindex. Otherwise the reason
will be that you simply don't have the dc.date.accessioned metadata
field filled in in any of your items. Those should be filled in
automatically by DSpace if you're creating items via input forms, CSV
import or other standard DSpace methods. They may be missing if you're
using some custom import methods.

Your solution is either to start filling out this field for new
records or to facet by another date field that you're using
(dc.date.issued).

Re: [dspace-tech] Square brackets [] not searchable

2018-08-13 Thread helix84
If you want to test it on 5.x, it might be possible to charry-pick
just this one change.

https://patch-diff.githubusercontent.com/raw/DSpace/DSpace/pull/2038.patch

It applies cleanly, so it might work there, too. If you test it, make
sure to add a comment to Jira or GitHub and we might still backport it
to 5.x.

Re: [dspace-tech] How to branch in GitHub?

2018-08-10 Thread helix84
Are you following the guide we wrote? This chapter talks about how to set
up a tracking branch:

https://wiki.duraspace.org/display/DSPACE/Development+with+Git#DevelopmentwithGit-Option2-%22cherry-pick%22changesfrommastertoreleasebranch

That's how you get a branch from upstream repo into your local repo.

Re: [dspace-tech] "Distributed" DSpace

2018-05-07 Thread helix84
Do you expect the load to be mainy page views or file downloads?

For anonymous page views, set up Varnish Cache. You can also easily
move Solr (search, statistics, oai) to a separate machine if it turns
out to receive much load.

If you expect to have many small files with a small part being
downloaded constantly, Varnish may help there, too.
In case of relatively few large files, if you happen to saturate your
drive's I/O, you can rebalance the assetstore files among several
assetstores on physically separate volumes. There seems to be a new
bitstore-migrate tool [1] in DSpace 6 to help you with that, but I
haven't tried it. It's straightforward to rebalance the assetstore
files manually, too.

So it all comes down to what turns out to be slow. But avoid
optimizing what you think may be slow. First measure, only then act
upon that.

Re: [dspace-tech] Re: Database migration DSpace-3.6 to DSpace-5.5

2018-03-28 Thread helix84
The Access Rights Awareness feature was added around DSpace 3. Usually what
people upgrading from an older version are surprised to see is DSpace
showing lower item counts than before for users who are not logged in.

https://wiki.duraspace.org/display/DSDOC6x/Discovery#Discovery-AccessRightsAwareness

https://jira.duraspace.org/browse/DS-1229

Assuming that the reindex is complete (which you'd see running in
dspace.log), compare item counts in Browse by Title or Browse by Issue
Date. Then log in as administrator and compare them again, they should be
equal.

Re: [dspace-tech] input-forms.xml - can I split it ?

2018-03-23 Thread helix84
Wow, I didn't know that was possible. Thanks for the tip, Claudia, I'm sure
it will come in handy in the future.

I was going to suggest another solution but it has an extra step - to
generate the xml from multiple xml files using XSLT. The xsl file would be
just a skeleton which would include the secondary xml files. In Java you
can choose from several xslt processors and there is at least one in the
DSpace classpath already.

Re: [dspace-tech] Is there a possibility to downgrade Dspace?

> Is there a possibility to downgrade Dspace 6.2 to Dspace-CRIS 5.8.1 ?

It would definitely be a completely or partially manual process. You can
see the upgrade migrations for postgres here:

https://github.com/DSpace/DSpace/tree/master/dspace-api/src/main/resources/org/dspace/storage/rdbms/sqlmigration/postgres

To downgrade, you would need to apply them "in reverse".

Of course, if there are any destructive operations, there's no way to
automatically reverse those. There's such an operation in the very first
migration: DROP VIEW community2item; You would need to find CREATE VIEW
community2item in one of the previous migrations (in this example, it's in
V1.1__Initial_DSpace_1.1_database_schema.sql).

I checked whether Flyway, the DB migration engine DSpace uses, supports
downgrades. It seems it does, subject to the limitations I mentioned. I
haven't tried it though and they mention it's available only in their Pro
edition which I don't have any experience with. In any case, the Flyway
route would only be a partial automation of the process.

https://flywaydb.org/documentation/faq#downgrade

Should you manage to downgrade the database successfully, you would
continue as per normal DSpace 5 installation instructions. Then you would
follow the DSpace-CRIS 5 installation instructions.

Re: [dspace-tech] Collection details in DSpace v6/Postgres DB?

2018-02-12 Thread helix84
You can read the background about the change and a practical example here:

https://wiki.duraspace.org/display/DSPACE/Metadata+for+all+DSpace+objects

The point is you can find all the metadata in the metadatavalue table,
an EAV table, which is why you couldn't find the metadata field names
as column names anywhere.

You may also find the ds6_metadata_id2field() and
ds6_collectionhandle2collection() functions (or just their code)
helpful:

UI limit:

CLI has no explicit limit, it is only limited by assigned JVM memory.

Re: [dspace-tech] DSpace OAI Crosswalk

2017-09-02 Thread helix84
Hi Terry,

you do not say why it doesn't work, but my guess is it's the variable.

I don't know what the surrounding code is (perhaps a for-each), but
keep in mind that the xslt processor will set the variable only once,
not for each pass. Thus, if the first record had a type you want to
keep, all records will be kept because the variable has already been
evaluated. Just put your "select" directly into the "test".

When working with XSLT, it helps to keep in mind that it's not a
programming language, but rather a templating language. It's not
imperative - if anything, it's functional.

[dspace-tech] Re: [dspace-community] Migration from Oracle to Postgresql

2017-08-14 Thread helix84
Please, post to a single mailing list at a time in the future.

I've done such migration in the past. I don't recommend attepting to
migrate the SQL between dialects. That is a sure way to run into much
trouble as there are many minor differences between the schemas.

You can relatively easily do an AIP export [1] of the whole site from
your Oracle repository and import the AIP into your DSpace/Postgres
installation. Of course, I recommend you to install a new empty
DSpace/Postgres on a separate machine in parallel with the old one
before you do the migration. In general, I recommend against in-place
upgrades.

Once you succeed migrating the contents, you may want to migrate the
usage data (Solr statistics), too. I described my migration process
here [2]. That one is specific to DSpace 5. Keep in mind that newer
versions use UUIDs as internal identifiers for objects, so there will
be some modifications needed.

Re: [dspace-tech] Batch import from CSV slower and slower

2017-08-02 Thread helix84
Although you're right that this should be fixed, the extent to which
we can fix this will be limited.

Each batch import is basically a DB-level transaction. As it gets
bigger, there will be some slowdown which is understandable (up to
some extent). By isolating the whole import, we can roll it back as a
whole if it fails.

We could split it down into manageable parts (e.g. 1000 rows) which
would run in separate transactions, but we would lose the benefits of
the isolation.

That's why it's probably better to split your import into smaller
parts yourself. You can use the command-line "split" command on your
csv file (don't forget to copy the header, too).

Of course, we should investigate whether the slowdown comes fully from
the transaction size or may have other reason, too. Feel free to file
a Jira issue.

Re: [dspace-tech] Re: Understanding index-discovery -o

2017-08-02 Thread helix84
No reason to make it a no-op in DSpace (if you need it, you have it
available without needing to fire a curl query to Solr), but running
the scheduled task daily is not necessary. That said, it doesn't cost
much, either. The excessive usage Solr devs referred to was running it
after every batch update or even after every added document.

We might also change the help output of index-discovery -h to
something more descriptive like "if excessive, reduce the number of
segments in Solr search core".

Current output:

stats-util -h
-o,--optimizeRun maintenance on the SOLR index

index-discovery -h
 -o optimize search core

My guess would be that you're not updating the metadata value with the
same language as you read it.

I agree that wildcard for language would be desirable. It would not
even break the API of released DSpace versions. I haven't kept
up-to-date with the development of REST API for DSpace 7, so they may
already doing that or have taken a different approach entirely.

No, I don't run a cron job. I may have run a simple one-off SQL query
to standardize them, though. I actually do use metadata in multiple
languages.

I may not be up to date on current RFCs, but BCP 47 relies on ISO 639
for the specification of language. ISO 639 has codes for several types
of unknowns:
special code: available to be used in a context where a code is
required, but the language has no code
special code: multilingual content
special code: undetermined
special code: no linguistic information

2) delete the contents of /home/lib/dspace/dspace/solr/search/data/
3) restart tomcat
4) reindex [1]

No, that won't help for this error, which is in the code. We need the stack
trace for that and the exact DSpace version used.

That looks like a file permission issue. Check that the owner of the

maven as. I'm no expert on Windows, though.

Yes, you can back up the index files. To be 100% safe, you shouldn't do
that while Solr is running.

Another way is CSV exports of Solr (--index-name authority):

In this case, I meant Batch Metadata Editing which does allow you to
specify authority keys for authors:

Re: [dspace-tech] Where in DSpace are ORCIDs stored?

2017-04-07 Thread helix84
Hi Chris,

that's correct. ORCID ID is only stored in the authority index.

The design is such that ORCID is not used as authority key in DSpace. When
you're using SolrAuthority, a UUID is generated and used as the authority
key (in the DB and in Solr authority; not sure if in Solr search, too - I
don't currently have such an index in front of me).

Such design is sound - it makes it possible to store not only an ORCID ID
for an author, but potentially other external identifiers, too.

The bad news is that Solr authority is treated as a persistent store, so
you have to back it up, too. If you lost it, you'd have to de-duplicate
your authors again. Also, there is currently no UI for deduplication (you
can use CSV export and deduplicate manually).

There are currently some improvements to ORCID lookup in the pipeline (but
not to the aforementioned design) in case you want to review them:

Re: [dspace-tech] SOLR verDspace 6 SOLR exception

2017-04-06 Thread helix84
Make sure that the Solr URL you configured DSpace to use actually works.
Your configuration points to the default HTTP port 80. It's likely that
you're using the default Tomcat port 8080.

[dspace]/config/modules/solr-statistics.cfg

Usually it's
server = http://localhost:8080/solr/statistics

Adjust depending on your situation. There are also other Solr URLs in
DSpace configuration (Solr search, Solr oai, Solr authority).

Make sure you're not reusing your 4.x configuration in your 6.x
installation. Start from a clean 6.x and only cherry-pick the changes you
need from your old 4.x.

This /dspace/config/spring/ directory is especially sensitive to this.

Look at the small PDF with a text editor. My guess is that you'll find a

You can start from the example on the statistics index:

https://wiki.duraspace.org/display/DSPACE/Solr#Solr-Statistics:breakdownofdownloadspermonth

Change the core to search (where dc.date.accessioned is stored), change the
query to ask for items and the facet field to query dc.date.accessioned_dt
(*_dt fields are the date types which can be faceted like dates; if in
doubt, check the Schema Browser for a particular core in the Solr Admin UI
or its schema.xml file).

I added the new example here:

Description of Solr parameters are not specific to DSpace, so I'm referring
to Solr documentation. Please, check it out:

"Using the knowledge of particular fields from Solr Admin and Solr syntax (
SolrQuerySyntax <http://wiki.apache.org/solr/SolrQuerySyntax>,
CommonQueryParameters <http://wiki.apache.org/solr/CommonQueryParameters>)
you can make your own search requests. You can also read a brief tutorial
<http://www.solrtutorial.com/solr-query-syntax.html> to learn the query
syntax quickly."

Re: [dspace-tech] Metadata bulk update Question

2017-04-06 Thread helix84
That is not the case. If you have "Author1||Author2" in
"dc.contributor.author" and you change it to "AuthorA||AuthorB", the
former will be replaced with the later.

However, make sure you're not running into the following bug, which
may have symptoms similar to what you're describing:

https://wiki.duraspace.org/display/DSPACE/TechnicalFaq#TechnicalFAQ-MetadatavaluesinCSVexportseemtohaveduplicatecolumns

Exporting to CSV should tell you if that's the case.

Here's what's needed to upgrade to PDFBox 2:

Don't forget to do mvn clean to get rid of the old PDFBox 1.8.x jar.

Re: [dspace-tech] Problems ingesting a postgres database dump

2017-03-09 Thread helix84
Which DSpace version is your dump from and which DSpace version were you
trying to import it into? If you don't know, you can check the
schema_migration table in your sql dump (assuming the dump is from DSpace
4.0 or newer).

The migration of DSpace entity identifiers from integers to UUIDs occurred
from 5.x -> 6.0, specifically this migration:

https://github.com/DSpace/DSpace/blob/dspace-6_x/dspace-
api/src/main/resources/org/dspace/storage/rdbms/sqlmigration/postgres/V6.0_
2015.03.07__DS-2701_Hibernate_migration.sql

While it is possible to take the sql dump from an older DSpace version and
run a newer DSpace version on it which will migrate it, but in your case I
recommend that you don't attempt it before making sure that the restored
dump works on the same DSpace version.

Useful commands (read the docs):
[dspace]/bin/dspace database info (show status of migrations)
[dspace]/bin/dspace database migrate
[dspace]/bin/dspace database clean (this drops all dspace tables; it asks
for confirmation, but triple-check the output to make sure which you're
working with the right database)

Re: [dspace-tech] Filter-Media Weirdness

My guess is that during upgrade, you didn't run "mvn clean" and thus
you have both the new and old pdfbox library installed. You can check
in [dspace]/lib/ and all the WEB-INF/lib/ directories.

The solution would be to run mvn clean before mvn package and rebuild DSpace.

Re: [dspace-tech] Additional metadata attributes for an EPerson with Shibboleth

2017-01-04 Thread helix84
The root cause is non-existing metadata field [1] when setting [2] eperson
metadata. Obviously, this should be guarded against and throw a more
sensible error.

Presumably you don't have the "cn" metadata atribute in the eperson schema
(it's not there by default) and you're trying to assign the Shibboleth
attribute value to it.

The query you want is:

 relation.isreferencedby:[* TO *]) AND your_identifier:123

Re: [dspace-tech] Exporting collection metadata error.

2016-12-15 Thread helix84
It's an ongoing issue with DSpace that many of its connections to Postgres
end up in an "idle in transaction" state, which sooner or later fill up the
connection pool, regardless of the pool size. The error you got is a result
of this - all the connections in the pool have been open, so the indexing
command couldn't open a new connection.

There is only a temporary solution, but it's a simple one - restart either
DSpace or Postgres. Then run the indexing command again.

Re: [dspace-tech] Re: Running Jetty as different user, problems uploading file

2016-12-09 Thread helix84
You should run your servlet container under the same user who owns the
DSpace files (see the first step in [1] ), regardless of the name of the
user (dspace, jetty, postgres, ...). It just needs to be the same user.

To make sure the sameuser owns all files in the directory where DSpace is
installed, you can change their ownership recursively:
chown -R dspaceuser:dspacegroup /dspace

Re: [dspace-tech] Poor indexing performance after upgrading from DSpace 4.x to DSpace 6.0

2016-12-09 Thread helix84
Thanks for letting us know about the regression. As you know, DSpace 6
featured a complete reimplementation of the data access layer, so
performance regressions are to be expected. The main goal of a x.0
release is to ship a version without any known significant bugs, which
is what we achieved. That means even though we fixed the worst
performance bottlenecks we encountered, it was not necessarily the
focus of our efforts until now.

It would be very helpful if you can collect statistics on the SQL
queries performed in 4.x/5.x vs. 6.0 to help us identify which queries
are slow and could potentially benefit from indexes.

Jira is the right place to report such findings.

Thanks in advance for your help improving DSpace for everyone.

Re: [dspace-tech] Migrate old DSpace database (1.8 schema) to Dspace 6.0 schema

2016-12-09 Thread helix84
You don't have to drop and re-create the database - DSpace can drop
the database content for you (tables and sequences).
Keep backups, be careful and always double-check the DB URL it
displays before it asks for confirmation:

[dspace]/bin/dspace database clean

If you want to avoid re-creating pgcrypto, install it using the
"Alternative method" in "Step 4 Database Setup" [1].

It doesn't work that way at all. It's apples and oranges.

Since you indicated it's urgent and you don't even know how to start,

Re: [dspace-tech] Git Rebase Issue

2016-12-08 Thread helix84
The problem is that the same changeset is there twice (commit with the
same content). What the diff doesn't exactly show you why that is. If
you want to see that, take a look at the DAG using a tool like gitk or
gitg or what have you. You'll see that each of them is on a different
branch and when you merged them, one of them became a no-op.

There are two possible approches how to fix it (result is the same),
cherry-pick or rebase:

git checkout master
git pull upstream master

git checkout -b ds3282-new

git cherry-pick a7ffd60
git push terrywbrady ds3282-new:ds3282 --force

or

git checkout --track terrywbrady/ds3282
git rebase -i master

pick a7ffd60 Fix js error for filters with dashes
drop ecf6f42 Fix js error for filters with dashes

git push terrywbrady ds3282-new:ds3282 --force

Re: [dspace-tech] DIM-Handler.xsl file

Not sure if I understand the question. This is the node for author:
dim:field[@element='title'][not(@qualifier)]

If you want to change it to another metadata field, replace all its
occurrences in the snippet, copy the snippet, change clause number
accordingly and increment the total number of clauses (as described on
the wiki).

It's clearly looking for database "dspace".

Here's where you should specify the database name.

Hi Digna,

rather than answering your question, I'd like to point out that
DIM-Handler.xsl is part of an older theme (dri2xhtml, used by the
Reference theme) that hasn't been the default theme for many years. If
you want to make modifications, I really recommend you to start with a
newer theme - either Mirage or Mirage 2. The stylesheet for the
summary item view in Mirage would be
Mirage/lib/xsl/aspect/artifactbrowser/item-view.xsl .

Re: [dspace-tech] Dspace 5.5 OAI Error when request

It seems you've run into an item that doesn't have any parent
communities. This should not normally happen.

https://github.com/DSpace/DSpace/blob/dspace-5.5/dspace-oai/src/main/java/org/dspace/xoai/data/DSpaceSolrItem.java#L43

You can find out which one only if you're the admin of the server
you're trying to harvest. Running
[dspace]/bin/dspace oai import -c -v
will probably show you which item it fails on.

If you don't want to register and pay for a handle prefix, you don't have
to use the handle server ([dspace]/hadle-server/). In such case, there's no
need to configure anything and your URLs will look like this:
http://example.com/handle/123456789/[postfix].

You can have both authentication options enabled at the same time,
look at authentication.cfg and the related documentation.

However, assuming you want LDAP autoregistration on, any accounts that
have logged in will have an EPerson created in DSpace. Just make sure
to map the correct attribute to netid (you can think of it as the
primary key which identifies users in DSpace). Any other attributes
can be remapped later and their values will be updated upon the next
login of that user.

Re: [dspace-tech] DSpace deployment environment survey?

2016-11-17 Thread helix84
Alan pointed out that there is information about the system
environment that could be interesting. Some of it is already in the
registry (OS, DB, type of content, customizations), some isn't
(OS/Java/DB version, virtualization/containerization technology). He
also pointed out that a lot of information there is out of date -
obviously, because it's entered manually.

That's why I suggested improvements to the registry rather than a
one-time survey:

1) Make it easier to participate in the registry. Provide benefits to
those who register and provide their email address by offering
security alerts. If we're going to have a simplified installation in
the future, suggest joining the registry and make it trivial to join
(like http://popcon.debian.org/ ).

2) Automate everything that can be automated. All this is publicly
available information (UIs, versions, content statistics) that we
could harvest regularly and often.

Well, first, those parts are already there and publicly exposed
(xmlui, jspui, oai, rest, rdf), so the right thing to do is to make
them resilient against attacks, not to pretend they're not exposed.
Second, there must be an option for the administrator not to expose
this information (not all repositories are production and public
installations).

And finally, this is supposed to actually help security. You'll be
able to register your instance (just once) along with your email
address and then get a custom-tailored notification that your
particular installation is affected by a security bug because you're
using version X.Y with module Z.

Please, comment on the PR that you tested it. Others who will look at the

Re: [dspace-tech] Rebuilding DSpace

2016-11-14 Thread helix84
You can't rebuild just XMLUI. (I hope someone will prove me wrong, but I
doubt it).

XMLUI has dependencies like dspace-api and dspace-services and the
dependencies are not always obvious.

You can, however, exclude some modules from building. It would look
something loke this:

mvn package -P \!dspace-sword,\!dspace-swordv2,\!dspace-rdf,\!dspace-rest

Figuring out which modules you can afford to exclude will need some
experimenting because of the mentioned dependencies.

I can confirm that leaking transactions are a long-term unsolved issue
since DSpace 3. On the postgres side, you will see that most of the
connections are "idle in transaction". It's probably a tricky DSpace
context closing issue (or several of them).

The workaround is to restart either Tomcat or DSpace.

Re: [dspace-tech] What does the ID search operator do ?

2016-11-14 Thread helix84
Hi Monika,

as you can see by searching for "Not ID" [1] it matches on the exact
internal authority identifier if you're using authority (authority is
useful to distinguish two authors with the same name). If you look at
the metadatavalue table [2], it's the "authority" column there. Also
the document ID in Solr "authority" core, if you're using the
SolrAuthority implementation.

The error in your screenshot is quite clear - Solr can't create a directory
it needs. It doesn't have filesystem permission to do so.

You have to make sure that your DSpace installation is owned by the same
user you use to run Tomcat.

Example (where tomcat7 is your user and group to run Tomcat):
chown -R tomcat7:tomcat7 /dspace

Re: [dspace-tech] Export and reload

2016-11-14 Thread helix84
Hi Jeff,

I'm not sure I fully understood your problem. I understand you want to
keep handles, which you definitely should. I don't understand why
there would be any handle conflicts on an upgrade.

To answer your question - no, changing provenance will not pose a
problem for DSpace as this field is not machine-readable.

Anyway, why do you need to change provenance? By default, it's only
visible to administrators, so you'd be removing information that could
be potentially helpful to you in the future.

Re: [dspace-tech] Implimentation of login

2016-11-14 Thread helix84
I also recommend you reconsider deploying LDAP, it is appropriate in a
college setting for more than just DSpace.

If you want to do this the hard way, then I suggest you use row-level
locking [1] on the specific row of the "eperson" table [2] that you
need to protect. Please note that this feature is only available as of
the latest release of Postgres - 9.5.

Alternatively, you can change the DSpace source code to disallow
password changes for the password authentication method. If you just
change it to false, it will be effective for all users. You should
only set it to false for the specific username you want to prevent
from changing their password.

Re: [dspace-tech] Need help in database migration from 5x to 6.0

2016-11-12 Thread helix84
Interesting. I have both LDAP and password auth enabled, but password
is only for a couple of admins and all the duplicates are in users
registered via LDAP.

So I suspect the problem is not in any particular auth plugin, but
probably in some common registration code.

Though as far as I can see, the code to create EPerson only calls auth
method-specific code:

https://github.com/DSpace/DSpace/blob/dspace-5_x/dspace-api/src/main/java/org/dspace/authenticate/AuthenticationManager.java#L269

I guess there is either a race condition when checking whether a user
already exists or this happens when users submit the
login/registration form multiple times.

One suspect thing that could cause one of these conditions is the context cache:

https://github.com/DSpace/DSpace/blob/dspace-5_x/dspace-api/src/main/java/org/dspace/eperson/EPerson.java#L199
