[Dx4win] Working with CW keyboard

2010-10-14 Thread wo2n
Hi,
Any way of keeping the CW keyboard always functional?

In heat of battle I inevitably bring up a window I don't want, when I
needed to sent out my callsign when I hit the F keys, and miss another call
out.

In other words you must stay in CW window when sending CW, no chance to
multitask.
Thanks, Bernie/WO2N.

If you have the updated country file from AD1C they should show up flagged in
the appropriate colors whenever they appear. If you had them as a callsign
alert it'd show up on every spot, which I'd assume would get annoying pretty
quickly.

However, here's the help file info for that field:

  Callsign Alert

If you specify a callsign in this field, DX spots will be monitored for this
callsign regardless of band or mode. The spot will have the same color as if it
was a new country. Multiple calls can be specified by separating the calls by a
comma. In addition, you can use the '*' (asterisk) as a wild character match as
the first or the last character in a callsign. For example, the string P5*,*/P5
will match any North Korea station, including a portable callsign. In addition
to callsigns specified in this field, callsigns specified in the membership
list using the '@' character can be treated as if they were specified here. You
will also have to enable the 'Check @ callsigns' option on the Packet2 tab.

Re: [Dx4win] Wild Card???

2010-10-14 Thread wo2n
A, I guess I never used a wild card before with DX4. I must have used known
callsigns in the alert box. Placing a known FULL callsign in the alert box does
work.
BUT we don't always know the callsign B4.

Tnx so much for your extra effort, and putting this issue to sleep, hi.

Yes, you can put PJ* in the Callsign Alert field in your PACKET1
preferences. The spots will come up as black-on-yellow (i.e. new
all-time, never worked). Even if you work the station, it will STILL
come up as black-on-yellow the next time. This has worked since
Version 7, maybe earlier.

The yellow/blue/red spots work fine for me with the latest country
file. Just work all the PJ stations you hear that are not
gray-on-white or black-on-white. Using the wildcard, you'll have to
check each call to see if you have worked them before, not as
effective IMO.

No. The Internet connection remains up. (That's managed by VE7CC.) DX4WIN is
connected to the cluster program running on the same machine via the
loopback addresss.
In addition, the connection remains up while on on the air but fails at
strange times when I'm not on the air.

All I see is Connection closed by remote host in the DX4WIN packet window.

[Dx4win] CI-V clashing problem

2010-10-14 Thread george
While I was able to skirt the clashing CI-V data problem with DX4WIN and my
PW1 working with my IC-7600 I tried Logger32 logging program.

What I see is logger32 does not suffer the problem that DX4WIN does with
clashing data. When running logger32 logging program I can see the frequency
in its QSO window change as I turn my 7600's VFO dial but never see bogus
frequency displayed in logger32 QSO window.

I can't figure out why logger32 runs fine and DX4WIN has the clashing CI-V
data problem.

Anyone know what the difference could be and maybe DX4WIN could do the same
thing?

Thanks.

Both VE7CC and K1TTT are heavily-loaded nodes. All nodes get the
spots within a second of each other these days, so there's no reason
not to use a lightly-loaded node close to you.

See http://www.dxcluster.info/ and click on the Telnet link at the
top. There are over 450 nodes listed, some only have a couple of
users!

This seems to be a new bug in the current version of DX4WIN.

I have both a direct as well as a wireless connection to the VE7CC
software, and I never lose my connection from DX4WIN, and haven't for
 years, in any version.

I see that my use of VE7CC is ambiguous.

I use VE7CC's CC User program on my Windows XP system to connect over the
Internet to the W3LPL node. That connection is not what's breaking.

I connect from DX4WIN to the loopback (127.0.0.1: 7300) that's the
connection that's being dropped. Since there's no indication why this is
happening, it could be a bug in CC User as well. I was under the impression
that the VE7CC CC User program was what was disconnecting. If it's happening
to others not using CC User then perhaps the finger is pointing back?

I'll probably have to set up something to sniff the connection so I can
figure out what end (CC User or DX4WIN) is causing the disconnect.

[Dx4win] Error with Country Add

2010-10-14 Thread El Med
I tried to add just one country (PJ2) in manual mode (probably my first
mistake!!). Obviously I did something not good. Now I get the following on my
screen: Access viouslation at address 00645660 in module dx4win.exe. Read of
address 0008. I can't use the log as it has basically shut me out and
won't let me add QSO's or do a file close.  I think I followed the instructions
for Add Country. Yes, I do have a backup. Help would be appreciated. Tnx Eli,
N6PF

Re: [Dx4win] Error with Country Add

2010-10-14 Thread ALAN ZACK
I'm not sure what you mean by MANUAL MODE?
I just worked TO3GA. When I entered his call into DX4WIN the country and
prefix boxes were blank.

According to the ICPO Bulletin:
13/10/2010: Andreas, DL3GA will be active from Ducos, island of Martinique
(IOTA NA-107, DIFO FM-001, WLOTA 1041, DDFM 97) from 13-20 October 2010,
using the callsign TO3GA. He will also participate in the Worked All Germany
(WAG) Contest. QSL via home call, direct or bureau. [FM5BH]

So I just typed FM into the PREFIX box and Martinique filled the country
box. Seems all is OK. Any comments?

Alan, K7ACZ

Don't think so Rick! I can leave DX4Win connected for days on end. It's
either your ISP or the cluster you use.

It's disconnecting from the loop-back? That is odd! As I said... don't
believe it's DX4Win. Checked your computer's error logs?

[Dx4win] Win7 / dx4win407 question

2010-10-14 Thread barockteer

This question may be more of a Windows7 question...

I have dxwin v407 (yes, I know that's old!) installed on a new Win7/64 machine.
It was working fine, when I attempted to update the cty file. I copied the new
cty file into the save directory.

Now, if I run dx4win not as an administrator, I get the OLD cty file. If I run
as administrator, I get the new one. I've tried to delete all old copies of the
cty file, but somehow it still finds an old version when not running as
administrator.

Anyone know what's going on here? How can I get it to use the new file without
running as administrator?
