Doesn't work here either.  I can put EPC in the custom award box, but
as soon as I tab into the Award Value field, DX4WIN crashes.  I sent
Paul the bug report.

Sorry to do this again but...

I want to enter the EPC membership number of a contact I made into the Custom 
award value box.

I enter EPC into the Custom award box, and all seems fine but that is as far as 
I can go - the program will not allow me to enter the membership number and, in 
fact, the Custom award value box actually disappears during this little 
exercise! And DX4Win 'seems' to freeze somewhat!

Again, please, any assistance will be appreciated. I have not tried other 
awards so cannot say if this is a 'one-off'.

Can you describe better your problem. I use a Mark V myself and I have 
not seen a problem. If a spot has the word SSB in comments, dx4win (both 
previous and current version) thinks that this spot is an SSB spot and 
turns the radio to SSB. Is this your problem? Under what conditions you 
expected to go in pkt and it goes to ssb?

I have received the answer to my enquiry and thank all for the time taken to 
help me out.

I  don't understand why, when updating the program, the DEFAULT situation 
apparently is to effect a change to the log set-up, allowing dills like me to 
do so because they did not anticipate that they would have to actually STOP 
this process in the first place. What might be the reason for the default 
situation, I wonder?

When you go to the update area to do an update, be sure to uncheck Layouts
for Logbook Window.  Downloading this will overwrite what you have set up.

Here's a quick upgrade cheat sheet for 9.01.  There are two important parts:

*  Migrating your configuration (preferences) from the OLD to the NEW
version

*  Copying (not moving) your log file.  The file format will be changed when
it is read into DX4WIN 9.01.  If you change the old file and write it back,
then your old version of DX4WIN will not be able to read it.  *** READ THIS
SENTENCE A COUPLE OF TIMES SO YOU UNDERSTAND!!! ***

Here are the steps:

1.  Using your OLD version, go to File | Preferences.  Then File |
Write INI File.  The default name is DX4WIN.INI   *** remember where
this file is! ***

2.  Install 9.01 and start it.  It should come up with the default
configuration and a SAMPLE log.

3.  Follow the instructions you received with your license key.
DX4WIN cannot be running when you are installing the license key.

4.  Using the NEW version, go to File | Preferences.  Then File | Load
Configuration File.  Navigate to the file you wrote in step #1 above, it's
in your old DX4WIN SAVE directory.  Double-click on the file name, it should
be DX4WIN (or whatever you named it) and say "Configuration File" to the
right.

5.  Next, copy (don't move) your log file (.DXL) from your
old SAVE directory to your new SAVE directory.   Right-click on the
file in the old location and choose COPY (not CUT). Then navigate to the new
SAVE directory, right-click and choose PASTE.

*** The next step is VERY IMPORTANT ***

6.  Using the NEW version, go to File | Open Log File.  Click on the
down-arrow arrow next to "Look in...".  If the path is not the full path to
your DX4W901 SAVE directory, you must navigate there first.
When you see the .DXL file, double-click on it to open it.
DO NOT OPEN THE LOG FILE IN THE OLD LOCATION!!!


That's pretty much all you have to do.

I too had a scale factor of 80 and have increased it to  110 to get 16 
characters in the callsign box without going into the prefix box.  I also have 
played with the skins.  While before I think they used to cause window creep?  
Now seem to stay put now. Nice.

Migration from V8 to V9 has gone well here. Often I will run old and new for a 
while till satisfied new isn't going to major distruct but having put V9 
through my usual routines all seems fine and am up running with it now.

 Although it has been a long time since any updates for DX4WIN I was still 
mostly happy with V8 and enjoyed the many years of stable service from it.  I 
am now enjoying many of the improvements in V9.  Looks like it will be a stable 
friend for some time now.

There appears to be two windows that are fixed in size. I had a scale factor of 
80 on version 8. Moved up to 100 and the fixed windows look much better.

 I have a dedicated machine that runs XP Pro that is not connected to the 
Internet in any way. I have it connected to my K2 and K1 for CW keying but I do 
pull the plug to run a straight key, bug or the keyer inside the K2 and
K1 rigs.

 I have been one of the longtime guys that uses the DX4WIN program since day 
one. So I decided to do the upgrade but I first went out and purchased a new 
USB Flash Drive. I backed up the entire folder for DX4WIN 8.05 version.

 I downloaded the new DX4WIN 9.01 and purchased the license. A few hours later 
I received my receipt and the V9 license file.

 I loaded the file onto the computer that is on the Internet running Win 7.
I then loaded onto the XP Pro computer. I then copied my log file into the V 
9.01. Everything opened up fine and seems to work great. Now for the real test. 
I did an update on the V 9.01 on the Win 7 computer. I copied the DX4WIN 
Version 9.01 file from the Win 7 computer to the XP Pro computer.

 I opened up my log file and everything is working fine. Now I just have to go 
and transfer some files I use in the DX4WIN for CW and PSK to their proper 
location.

 One thing I would like to do is make the windows larger on the XP Pro machine 
but I have a larger monitor I can use but that will be at a later time.

Hi Mike,

 Thanks for that tip. I actually changed my screen settings since I do
picture editing on the XP Pro machine. But I went into the Scale Factor and
now I got everything looking better than every!!

 Next thing I will do a little later is make a dual copy on the XP Pro
machine. I have a regular hard drive but I also have a digital drive that

I then loaded onto the XP Pro computer. I then copied my log file into the V
9.01. Everything opened up fine and seems to work great. Now for the real
test. I did an update on the V 9.01 on the Win 7 computer. I copied the
DX4WIN Version 9.01 file from the Win 7 computer to the XP Pro computer.

 I opened up my log file and everything is working fine. Now I just have to
go and transfer some files I use in the DX4WIN for CW and PSK to their
proper location.

 One thing I would like to do is make the windows larger on the XP Pro
machine but I have a larger monitor I can use but that will be at a later
time.

There appears to be two windows that are fixed in size. I had a scale factor of 
80 on version 8. Moved up to 100 and the fixed windows look much better.

[Dx4win] IC-7100 interface

Hello Paul/Guy,
I'm testing V9 while waiting for the licence.
I have the radio (IC-7100) configured as usual. When DX4win starts and reads 
the radio frequency (Radio frequency control window), USB is reported as 
FSK441. 
LSB is correctly reported as SSB. 
The same things happens hitting the "read" button.

On the side, it would be great to read USB-D (digital) too.

Thursday  (or very early Friday) and my key arrived early afternoon Friday.
I wouldn't have expected it till after the weekend, and won't be home to

Dick, do not import the log.  Copy the PA3FQA.dxl file from your old
SAVE directory to your new SAVE directory.  Then in 9.01, open the log
file in the new SAVE directory.  Your DXCC status should be the same.

Just installed the new version of DX4WIN, and imported the log file. When I do 
Reports|DXCC|summary It does not show any Checked countries. I do have over 
3000 bandpoints checked at DXCC, how do I import them from the old log file?

If you can use F8 to filter the calls you want, use:

QSO | Multiple QSO Operations | Set Custom Award

[Dx4win] new version 9 problem

I upgraded to V9 of DX4WIN. NO problem till I tried to set the baud rate for
my Kenwood TS990S. I had the baud rate set to 19200 in V8 and it connected
to my rig fine. 
Now that I'm up and running V9 the "preferences", "radio" is fixed at 9600
baud. I cannot set it to 19200 like V8 allowed. I get a "bong" when I click
in the baud window.
Any suggestions?

Hello, dear DX4WIN users!

Can you help me to simplify entering data for custom award.
I need to enter a similar custom award ref for multiple calls, say UA3AGW AGX 
AGY AGZ etc etc with a ref MA-01 for RDA-award! 

The standard procedure I would use for this is as follows

- open the logbook window ( say UA3AGW Report: sorted by date)
- double click the needed callsign
- in a QSO main entry window ( say UA3AGW sorted by date) click 
   CUSTOM AWARD BOX and select the award name (say Russian District Award)
- then click CUSTOM AWARD VALUE BOX and select RDA ref name
- then eather select a value in the Custm box below ( S C I ) and press Enter - 
or just press Enter to save the entered data if the latter is not needed.

Then repeat the procedure for the next callsign in the log.

So I am wondering how to automate this process for multiple entries with the 
same Custom award value and avoid this time-consuming procedure.

Sorry I am not a programming type and I am not aware which are the DB files in 
DX4WIN where the info with individual data ( awards, achievements, scores) is 
being accumulated and stored !

Cesar,

Looking at the appendix F in the help, I see that old file dx4win.lab is
now called labels.dat.

I have not tried this, but I think you can replace labels.dat but keep a
copy before you try!

[Dx4win] Upgrade to 9.01

Upgraded to 9.01 last night and having heard some folks report issues expected 
some myself however no problems found.  New license key arrived within a couple 
of hours of purchasing upgrade.  Saved configuration file from version 8.05 
loaded in 9.01 and everything works fine including communications to both 
radios.  Changed all my FT8 contacts originally saved as TOR to correct mode so 
I'm very happy with the upgrade so far.


Many thanks to Paul and the numerous others who helped get this new version 
released.

I guess I have to echo Johns comments.  V9 didn’t do a couple of things that 
would help with my Flex SDR radio but it does do 4 things I wanted and find 
valuable.

1. Automatically logs onto the cluster.
2. Accepts QRZ and other on line services for address and call info.
3. Provides for easy updates, even though Jim’s update program was a snap to 
use.
4. Window positions not moving, I use the iTunes skins and now they stay put, 
very nice.

Click on the Custom Award Value window and type F1.  This brings up a list
of all the numbers with names.  In this window, type F2 to toggle between

I worked Yoshi, and he lives in Sendai City (Japan).

I want to populate both the 'Custom Award' and 'Custom award value' boxes on
the logging window.

We all know how we collected this same information (data) in v8.05 and prior
- and that Sendai City is city number '4616' in (Jim's AD1C) the JCC award
database.

Let's assume, however, that I do not know this and want to find out this
very same information using v9.01.

What I did was select 'JCC' from the list contained within the 'Custom
Award' database. So 'JCC' populates the 'Custom Award' box.

I then clicked on the 'Custom award value' box, and a list of numbers comes
up - thousands of numbers. Just numbers, as far as I can see!

My question is - how do I find out which of those many numbers belongs
(equals) Sendai City. In v8.05 there was a database that allowed you to
match the name of the city with the corresponding award number - easy!

How do I do this very same thing using v9,01.

What did I miss?

Please help - it must be simple?

[Dx4win] CAT problem YAESU MK-V

Hi Guys,
DX4WIN V9 works well. But there is a problem at CAT.
My RIG is FT 1000 MP MK-V. When mode is PKT it becomes SSB. PKT is 
correct with V 7.07 and 8.05.
