[Dx4win] Frequency in the QSO Notes field

2009-08-07 Thread Roger Marrotte
I am running with version 8 and have been trying to clean up my database.
I've run the new Multiple QSO Operations|Set Freq from note command which
worked fine for most of the frequencies located in the Callsign Notes
field, but does nothing for frequencies located in the QSO Notes field. I
have thousands of them there. Is there any chance that the Set Freq from
note command can be modified to also work with frequencies located in the
Callsign Notes field?

I've managed to clean up quite a lot of the frequency listings in my
database of the form: 14.20 and have been able to change them to the
correct form (ex. 14,000.00) by exporting my database in the DX4WIN8 format
and then using the Find and Replace|Replace All command in Windows Word
2007, and then importing the corrected database back into DX4WIN.

[Dx4win] Can't open the DX4WIN web page

2009-08-04 Thread Roger Marrotte
I don't seem to be able to open the DX4WIN web page. I tried for a while
last night when I heard of the new version of DX4WIN and this morning. It's
like it's not there. I tried with both Internet Explorer and Firefox. All
other web sites seem to be available.

[Dx4win] Something wrong with the key file

2009-08-04 Thread Roger Marrotte
I just received my key file for version 8. I placed it in the dx4w801
directory. I upgraded from version 7.07. I started dx4win and it now shows
my name in place of saying demo mode. I opened my log file. When I make a
change to the logfile and try to close dx4win and save the changes I get a
message saying that there is something wrong with the key file and then the
program eats my database. I have it backed up so nothing is lost. It's not
opening the database in the old directory because I renamed the old
directory. I tried running as administrator. The computer has Vista 32bit
loaded. Do I need my version 7 key file placed in a version 8 directory
too?

RE: [Dx4win] 7.04 Installation problems on a new computer

2008-07-12 Thread Roger Marrotte
Guy,

I just tried installing to C:\dx4w704 and it did not work. So I uninstalled
Dx4win again and deleted all associated files and directories. I then tried
again, installing to C:\dx4w704 and then tried installing to the default
directory C:\Program Files\dx4w704. Both instances gave me the same
problem. So I uninstalled dx4win again, cleared all files, etc. I then
reinstalled to the default C:\Program Files\dx4w704 directory. I then
recovered my old dx4win directory from a backup disk and placed those files
into the C:\Program Files\dx4w704 directory on top of the just installed
files. Vista wouldn't let me recover to the Program Files directory
directly so I had to recover to the desktop and then move the files to the
Program files directory. I then ran dx4win and all now works correctly. It
works but I'm not happy!

You just have to love VISTA!

I've had Dx4win 7.04 running without any problems on a Windows Vista machine
for quite a while. It was installed in c:\dx4win\dx4w704 to avoid the know
Vista problems. I just got a new computer, also running Windows Vista.
Both versions are Home Premium 32bit. I just installed 7.04 on the new
machine in exactly the same location. I copied all my \save files to the
new save directory and copied my license file to the c:\dx4win directory.
With the license file in the c:\dx4win directory, Dx4win starts up in Demo
mode and says nothing about my license file. c:\dx4win was the location for
the license file on my old machine and DX4win work correctly with it there.
I moved the license file to the c:\dx4win\dx4w704 directory and now when
started, Dx4win gives me the bad license file... message.

I'm out of ideas. At this point I'm not sure where the license file
belongs. I've tried starting the installation file as well as Dx4win while
in admin mode with no luck. Help!

[Dx4win] My Vista experience

2007-02-13 Thread Roger Marrotte
Paul,

I'm running Windows Vista Home Premium. I'm running as an administrator.
After seeing your email I installed DX4WIN and when asked if I wanted to run
it I said yes and it worked. I then exited DX4WIN and tried to rerun it and
it wouldn't run. I received the usual message about copying the file
vichw11.sys and the program exited. I then reinstalled DX4WIN and when
asked if I wanted to run the program I said yes and it ran again. I exited
DX4WIN and tried to run it again and it would not run.

We're getting close but no cigar.

Subject: [Dx4win] My Vista experience

Hi,

I installed Virtual PC 2007 (free download from MicroSoft)
and installed Vista Ultimate under the virtual machine.
(for the time being I have no plans to install Vista on any of
my machines)

When running as administrator, DX4WIN runs fine. I do not get any
error messages etc and the port driver is loaded. As a regular user,
the port driver cannot be loaded. Versions prior to 7.03 would exit
when this happens; I modified the code for version 7.03 to ignore
this error, with the result that access to the LPT port(s) is disabled.

I guess that the experiment worked, because my laptop is 32 bits. If
you run the 64 bits version of Vista, loading the device driver will not
work; even for the administrator.

Will keep you posted,

[Dx4win] DX4WIN 7.01| MMTTY |FSK RTTY| microHAM micro KEYER

2005-06-08 Thread Roger Marrotte
Has anyone been able to get FSK RTTY to work via the MMTTY interface in
DX4WIN 7.01 and a microHAM micro KEYER? I can copy text coming in and when
I try to transmit I see a light blinking on the micro Keyer but nothing
happens with the rig.

I received the micro KEYER today. FSK RTTY seems to work fine with stand
alone MMTTY and MMTTY from Writelog through the micro KEYER. CW works with
DX4WIN and Writelog through the Microkeyer. It's just RTTY with DX4WIN
that's not working. It sure would be nice to tune around the bands looking
for DX RTTY and have it go right into my DX4WIN database.

Any help would sure be appreciated.

[Dx4win] DX4WIN 7.01| MMTTY |FSK RTTY| microHAM micro KEYER

2005-06-08 Thread Roger Marrotte
Thanks Joe. I put PTT on the same port as FSK and it works! I guess I
missed that combo. I sure tried all the others.

Hi Roger,

Whatever I've done, however I've stumbled upon it, my MicroHam Keyer,
DX4WIN 7.01 (Demo) and Icom 756 Pro work in FSK mode.

I'm still waiting for the key for 7.01 - but I've downloaded the program
and have it running in the demo mode. I've previously configured MMTTY to
run FSK standalone - without DX4WIN. DX4WIN (Demo) PREFERENCES window is
set to start MMTTY in the MMTTY folder.

My MicroHam keyer is configured with FSK and PTT using the same port (5 in
my case), and rig control is set to port 3. When I click on one of the
pre-configured messages that appear at the bottom of the MMTTY window under
DX4WIN control, the transmission is in FSK mode, rather than AFSK. (Note
that the canned Start message needs to be edited to add %X at the
beginning, or it will not enter the transmit mode.)

I'm not sure if there are any subtleties that I've stumbled upon, but it
does work in FSK mode. I'm using the Beta 2.0 version of MicroHam's router
software - not sure if that makes any difference - you can download it from
their site.

Happy to help further if I can - email direct and we'll chat.

Joe

[Dx4win] Problem with SO2R and DX4WIN 6.01

2003-01-30 Thread Roger Marrotte
Well I have fixed my problem with the use of SO2R and DX4WIN 6.01. I've
just finished installing a mod to the DX Doubler SO2R box listed on Top Ten
Devices Web Page. They make the DX Doubler. The mod is called Fix for
Randomly Generated CW Key Down or PTT Active State Upon Computer Bootup.
They have you cut out two transistors, bevel the emitter holes on the
circuit board with a drill to unground these pads, reinstall 2 transistors
and reroute the two emitters to pin one of the parallel port connector. It
took me about 1/2 hour. SO2R is now working perfectly with DX4WIN 6.01 and
it's great. I hope this may help someone who might have the same problem.

Hi Roger.

I noticed your post about your successful installation of the Random
key down mod to the DX Doubler. Nice work. I'm not subscribed to
the list, but you may want to post a copy of this e-mail, if you see fit.
That modification is now installed in our factory on all units currently
shipping, so nothing needs to be done if the DXD was purchased
within about the last six months. A visual inspection of the circuit
board will quickly reveal whether your DXD has the mod in it.

[Dx4win] V6.01 SO2R

2003-01-29 Thread Roger Marrotte
I was just fooling around with the new version of DX4WIN and trying to set
it up for SO2R. I have a Kenwood TS-2000 and an Elecraft K2. My SO2R box
is a Top Ten Devices DX Doubler. Up until now while using DX4WIN I would
just go to preferences and change the radio port and the radio type to the
correct values for the radio I wanted to use. This worked fine but was a
little cumbersome. After trying a few things I find that with V6.01 I can
do the same thing (just set up one radio in preferences) and it seems to
work the same way. The freq and mode show up OK. When I set up two radios
in preferences and if I leave the DX Doubler in manual mode the freq and
mode are read correctly and change to the other radio's values when I hit
SHIFT-CTRL-F12 (the new V6.01 command to switch to the other radio). I must
manually switch the DX Doubler to get to Mike , earphones, etc. to the
correct radio (because it's in manual mode). All works well in this mode.
When I put the DX Doubler into AUTO mode I have a problem. The
SHIFT-CTRL-F12 command switches the DX Doubler to the other radio and the
mode/freq displayed follows the radio change correctly but both radios are
put into transmit mode with a sidetone as if the CW line is set on for both
at the same time. No matter what I do this does not change. The CW keyer
interface in preferences is set to LPT1 and the radio 1/2 signal is set to
LPT1. I've shut each off one at a time with no luck. I've tried different
setting for DTR and RTS in preferences with no luck. HELP

[Dx4win] Follow up of SO2R problem with DX Doubler box.

2003-01-29 Thread Roger Marrotte
Now that I've looked at the manual for the DX Doubler from Top Ten Devices
and the Manual for DX4WIN 6.01 I think I see the problem with SO2R
operation. The DX doubler uses pin 17 on the LPT port for CW keying (High
state to key transmitter) and DX4WIN 6.01 uses pin 20(DTR) for CW keying.
As it stands even if I have File|Preferences|Control|CW Keyer Interface set
to NONE the radio selected is keyed as soon as it is selected. Both DX4WIN
6.01 and the DX Doubler SO2R box use LPT pin 14 for Radio Select, so that
works fine. The DX Doubler works correctly with Writelog and is advertised
as being able to work with CT, NA and TRLog. I know at one time there
wasn't as standard for some of the LPT pins. I don't know if there is one
now. Hopefully, if I'm not missing something, the new DX4WIN program can
also be made to use pin 17 for CW Keying.
