[Dx4win] DX4win 6.03
Thanks All (and I mean all). I've received several copies. Thanks for being the backup to my backup. ;) I didn't realize there was a 6.04. Now, if I can just get Paul to send me my key. I might be able to recover that from my old hard drive, just not sure where to look. [Dx4win] DX4WIN going out?
True, but the differences are that N1MM is a contest program and DX4Win is a logging program that tracks awards, countries, etc. N1MM clearly outlines that on his web page. You have to use the right tool for the job. ;) Mike VA3MW - Original Message - From: Milan Gütter [EMAIL PROTECTED] To: dx4win@mailman.qth.net Sent: Tuesday, April 13, 2004 5:15 PM Subject: [Dx4win] DX4WIN going out? I must say, the DX4WIN is a great program, but is going more and more quickly out. The main reason is, that users suggestions aren't implemented, in general. When I compare the DX4WIN for example with WWW.N1MM.COM , I see the abysmal difference. During past 12 months the N1MM (which is free!) has 20 or 30 or more upgrades, the DX4WIN - no one. The DX4WIN users needs are ignored. [Dx4win] Share rig COM port between Writelog and DX4WIN?
Jim I doubt it, however You might be able to split the data coming out of the IC-756 and then feed that to 2 level converters and use 2 unique com ports. I've never tried it, but it may be worth attempting. [Dx4win] Automatic Antenna Switching
All I want to automate my IC-756PRO's antenna switching with DX4Win. I know this is a bit off topic, but I'm looking for some recommendations for antenna switches. I would prefer to use the Band Switching data on the IC-756 to drive the antenna switch, although I will use the computer as a second choice. I'm looking for suggestions on what devices are available to use. Web links would be great. thanks, Mike VA3MW
[Dx4win] Voice Alerts
Sorry if this has been asked before, but is there anyway to do the following: Alert for new band/mode from the cluster for DXCC (this is normal, it does it now) As well, do voice alerts for VHF (ie: 6M/2M) regardless of current log book status. In this case, your tracking VUCC. I just really want to know if 6M is open. I could set a filter in the cluster to only announce VHF spots and then have DX4Win announce all spots, but it would be nice to be able to do both. [Dx4win] Kenwood TS-690S
Bob Select the radio as Kenwood, and the baud rate should be fixed at 4800. Ensure that DTR and RTS are high, as they likely provide the power to your level converter. You can use TS-450 as well. Sounds like there might be a problem with the interface, so you might want to try some other software. Make sure the baud rates match (if I remember Kenwood is fixed at 4800 baud something like N82). You should be able to open something like Hyperterminal, set it up on the com port for the radio at 4800 and move the VFO. At that point, data should flow across the screen. King [EMAIL PROTECTED] To: dx4win@mailman.qth.net Sent: Wednesday, January 22, 2003 9:45 AM Subject: [Dx4win] Lost data I have been having an intermittent problem with DX4WIN V5.03 for a few months now that is potentially serious. Occasionally when I save the database or close DX4WIN before shutdown, I get an error writing the log file during the saving of my log data. When this happens, usually the last 80% of my log entries are lost with each lost entry replaced with some specific data in certain fields. In the BAND area I get xxxm. In the TIME area I get . And in the MODE area it is always AM. There may be other fields that are always changed to a constant, but those are the fields that I remember. This all gets repeated for about 60,000 QSOs and the real data is lost. When the failure occurs, a correct log file cannot be found anywhere on my harddrive. What saves me is that I usually do a daily backup on a zip file that I update every night only before I shutdown. I use a stand-alone batch file to execute this backup. My log file has 87,000 entries in it and it would be a disaster for me to lose that much DXing data. After the failure and I reload the log file, the log data is correct up to about the first 20,000 entries. But the last 60,000 QSOs are lost being replaced with the data I mentioned above. I don't know if there is an answer for this problem. But I do think that everyone should have a regular, independent method of backing up their log file. Any suggestions? The problem really got scary yesterday when I had some problems reading my backup file on the zip drive. I eventually recovered the database though. Richard I don't think that there is an event log on win98SE. The fact that you have tried it on another machine and it hasn't failed is good news. I can recommend the following: Make sure that all maintenance available from Microsoft is installed I really think that the hard drive of the drive controller is going south.. Is it an Ultra DMA hard drive without and Ultra DMA cable? (this problem drove me nuts for about 3 months) It may be a power supply problem. I learned the hard way that computer power supplies are not created equal. Look very very closely at the power ratings. Some of the wattages are combined. Can you get a new harddrive and do a total reinstall of Win98SE (I highly recommend XP Home--the software is almost 4 years newer than Win98). Also, with an event log, it makes it easier to track problems like this. I also think that you will find XP faster than Win98SE. Unfortunately, there isn't an easy solution here. Your just going to have to keep trying things until it goes away. 73... Mike VA3MW - Original Message - From: Richard L.
