[Dx4win] Maritime Mobile Logging

2015-02-15 Thread Brian - NX0X via DX4WIN
I have a question in regard to logging a Maritime Mobile station.

I am running 8.05 with Jim's (AD1C) latest update of Jan 28th.

I have never worked or logged a /MM station in the past as a maritime mobile
station is not good for any DXCC entity so it has not interested me in doing
so. However, I was interested in working TI9/3Z9DX/MM last night as he is
heading to TI9 and that will be a new one for me.

Trying to log him into DX4WIN, it wants to put him in Cocos Is. and I fully
understand that. But being he is not there yet and enroute on the ship it does
not count for Cocos. I was looking to see if I could Force the contact to
another prefix entity but that would not solve the problem either. Then I
thought maybe there is a prefix listing of /MM (Maritime Mobile) that would
basically not count the contact for anything. But as you guessed, not found. Is
this an idea Jim could implement in his next database update or is that more of
a Paul update for the program itself? I don't think you can leave the prefix
field blank, can you?

So anyway, how do you log a /MM station so it does not count for an entity?
Other than not logging it...

Thanks,
Brian - NX0X

Re: [Dx4win] U.S Counties VA

2014-04-10 Thread Brian - NX0X

I use the Notes for this QSO field in this case.

For the CQ US county award...

If you work an independent city, You can claim credit for one of the
surrounding counties. It is up to the individual to pick which county he would
like to get credit for. This can ONLY be done once for a contact with an
independent city however...

As per logging it into DX4Win, You basically just pick the county surrounding
the independent city to get credit for and log it that way. What I have done
then is to add a remark into the Notes for this QSO field as to this contact
was with the independent city and which county I took credit for. Reason being
is you can switch which county you may want to get credit for before applying
for the award.

Example: If you happen to work the county you are taking credit for the
independent city contact, You can then pick one of the other surrounding
counties that are needed yet.

Re: [Dx4win] Cabrillo file

2013-06-24 Thread Brian - NX0X

Bottom line... Can't be done from DX4Win.

You can do it though by taking the ADIF file from DX4Win and using one of the
conversion programs to covert that file to a Cabrillo file for a specific
contest. See Jim's - AD1C website I believe for the conversion program.

The reason is a lot of the different contests that you would send a Cabrillo
file to use different fields in a Cabrillo file. So you would have to program
in each different contest Cabrillo file fields into DX4Win. A LOT of extra
programming and they change quite often. Unlike the ADIF file...

The thinking is DX4Win is a logging program and not a contest program.

[Dx4win] Verifying Country Database Version in DX4win 8.05

2012-03-12 Thread Brian - NX0X

I'm forwarding my dad's question to the reflector here. He is in the process of
changing his email address and is unable to post anything right now on the
reflector due to that.

I will add to my dad's question below that we can go to the normal log window
and enter Version in the callsign window and then tab to see the manager's
database update date in the QSL manager window. We understand normally this
would be the same date as the country file date but my dad was wondering on
this other method that he has used in the past specifically for the country
database.

I am trying to verify what version of the Country File I have installed in
DX4Win Ver. 8.05. The following verbiage was found on Jim's website on the page
titled DX4WIN Country File.

To see the actual revision date of the country file, go to Files | Databases |
Countries. The entry for 1A0, Sov. Military Order of Malta should appear. Click
on the Callsigns tab, and the callsign VERSION should appear in the window.
The Start date is the date the country file was created/released.

I've done this in the past (don't know how long ago) and it has worked fine.
Now, however, after I click Files / Databases, COUNTRIES IS NOT HIGHLIGHTED so
I can go no further. What am I doing wrong, or has something been changed here?

Thanks in advance for your response.

Re: [Dx4win] Dx4Win Updater

2012-03-12 Thread Brian - NX0X

Jim,

I do run the computer on LOCAL time so no issue there. Everything I see is that
I am **running** the current version of 4.6. I did just try and deleted the
file from the UPDATE directory and run the program again. Still the same thing.
Always asks to update the Updater program.

I think what I will try next (I'm running out of time right now) is to just
delete all the updater files and start again with a fresh download of the
DX4WIN Updater to see what happens. I'm guessing somehow I got something mixed
up with the older 4.4 version in the newer 4.6 version. I'm not a computer
person so it would not surprise me if I messed up something there :(

I do have one other question right now, When asking about wanting to update the
updater .exe file it gives you three options. Y | N | R. What does the R mean?

Thanks,
Brian - NX0X

4.6 worked fine here also. I tested it before announcing the updates.
y computer is set to LOCAL time, not UTC.
Make sure that dx4wupd.exe in the UPDATE directory is not protected
gainst over-writing or renaming the file. That would cause the
ymptoms you see. You could try deleting it from the UPDATE
irectory. The next time you run, you'll be prompted to update one
ore time. The next time, you should not.
Also make sure the version you're *running* is actually 4.6. Remember
hat the older versions required you to copy the file from the UPDATE
irectory to the directory above (the one with dx4win.exe in it).

I just installed Jim's updater program and it keeps asking me to update the

It seems to be working ok other than asking to update the program every time I

Re: [Dx4win] can DX4WIN export to a cabrillo format

2011-12-03 Thread Brian - NX0X

They are not asking for a contest style program that would require constant
changes due to rule changes ect...

They are asking for a way to export a file in Cabrillo format. True this is
generally used in contests, However I don't believe this would require updates
like you say. This could be a one time change could it not?

I'm for exporting a Cabrillo file directly from DX4WIN...

My 2 cents...

Re: [Dx4win] can DX4WIN export to a cabrillo format

2011-12-03 Thread Brian - NX0X

After reading the couple of emails on the topic... I stand corrected

I was not thinking of the headers that are sent part of the file, I was only
thinking of the main body and did not realize there were different versions out
there. My mistake...

After reading these few emails (and from doing the ADIF/Cabrillo conversions
before) for DX4WIN, I can see why Paul has not gone that route.

I have used N1MM before but do have to learn it better...

Brian,
Not all Cabrillos are created equal. With the recent emergence of Cabrillo
3.0, about 1/3 of contest sponsors now require v3.0, whereas the remainder
till use submissions based on the v2.x format. Implementing a Cabrillo
xport would not be one-time-and-done effort.
My vote is for Paul to devote his time to making DX4Win the best DX logging
rogram out there, and leave contesting to others.

[Dx4win] DX4WIN F2 Key Update

2010-09-24 Thread nx0x

Thanks to all of you that replied to my question.

I did not realize that the F2 key function was in the preferences section. Not
even sure it was in version 5.xx, but maybe as it's been so long ago. When I
updated to version 8.03 from 5.xx nothing at all was checked under the F2 key
preferences. Made the correction and working fine again. Also made other
settings changes to speed things along for me so it was a nice refresher to
look at those preferences again :)

The next project I should work on is getting 8.03 updated to the latest 8.04...
Thanks Again

out to a flash drive, imported the file to my new computer with ver 8 and it
all went very smoothly without any problems.

I tried to then actually do the upgrade on the older computer but was having
issues with windows xp and ver 8. Looking into it further I needed to upgrade
the windows xp service pack. I started to have problems with that so I just
keep it the way it was. It looks like it could have been done though, I just
did not want to mess with it as I'm using the newer computer now anyway.

But to answer your question, The log file transfer from 5.03 to the new 8.x
when off with NO problems for me. I also transferred/merged my WPX contest logs
into both versions and had no problem with either one of them.

Those of you who have upgraded to version 8.x
Could you try importing, opening, or merging OLDer
X4WIN log files if you have 'em?
I've been fighting with old 2002-2004 (version 4 and 5 ish) log files
have on an old hard drive. I can't get them in to my
ewly upgraded version 8.
Lots of problems with lots of files. Can't believe it is
he old files...cuz none of them work.
Help!

[Dx4win] ADIF Import

2010-04-08 Thread nx0x

I'm running version 5.03 on an old computer system (long story). I have an
ADIF file that I transfer into DX4WIN and it when very smoothly, however all
the contacts went into Group 1 and should have been group 0. I do use group 1
from time to time for certain contacts, but not these ones.

Is there a way to search out these 3000+ contacts and edit them all at the same
time to show group 0?

Thanks,
Brian - NX0X

Can you access this page (the hosting site):

 http://www.qth.com/

If not, then your Internet Service Provider is at fault.
